I have never written an updated review, but feel like these guys deserve an echo of my previously glowing review. I needed to get my front suspension replaced. Harrison asked me how much I know about suspensions (I appreciate that he didn't assume I didn't know!). When I told him I didn't know anything, he sent me pics of what they saw with my vehicle and diagrams of different parts and then called to explain what they are doing and what the impact is on my car and how well it drives. Unbelievable! I've gone to many mechanics across many states and I've never felt like anyone treated me more respectfully than these guys. Had an extremely poor experience yesterday and the day before with a battery problem on my 2007 Honda Pilot. They were good getting my vehicle in on the same day, then came the problems. I was given a quote that I signed, as well as the owner's word that I could keep the alternator and all parts replaced except for the battery. Hours later I was called and they jacked up the labor price by over $100. Even hobbyists can replace this alternator within an hour. Because I needed my vehicle back, I agreed. The work was fine, but I wanted to keep the old parts to verify that they were in fact malfunctioning, as well as to re-sell them. I came back the next day asking for the parts and the owner refused and started to get extremely aggressive. Other workers came into the small office, tried to physically intimidate me, and got in my personal space trying to physically push me out. They refused to give me my old parts, despite the verbal agreement the day before! And they were physically aggressive with me, which I don't really care about, but be prepared to defend yourself! At least the owner carries a pocket knife as well as one of his staff members. This is not how you run a legit business. Also, I felt like I was being judged as someone who could be pushed around and taken for additional money. So if you make the bad choice of using this business, make a recording of the entire interaction, be prepared to physically defend yourself, and you still may get ripped off and physically pressured out. Needed front brakes replaced. Called for appointment at 11am, brought car in at 5pm, got it back next day at 9am. Service was polite and professional. Charged me $100+ less than what dealer quoted. New brakes working fine. Definitely coming back here. read more

My car broke down on the highway. I yelped a place but tow truck operator says he takes lots of people here. They had great reviews, although fewer than the other place. But they were closer to my work, which would make car pick-up more convenient later. My main issue was the timing belt, but my breaks were also in need of replacement so I let them do those too. I don't know if the prices were reasonable or not since I couldn't shop around, but I appreciated my interaction with these guys. They were straightforward, called with updates, showed me the actual parts they removed from my car, popped the hood to show me some other stuff, and asked if I had any other questions. They also threw in a couple extras. I plan to research and confirm their pricing is fair (I suspect it is) and then I think I've found my new go-to shop. They do oil changes and SMOG checks, too. read more

I live in Potrero Hill and regret not coming here much sooner. This place is great. I had a nail in my tire and I was expecting to have to drop my car off for a few hours while I waited my turn to get it fixed. Nope - I showed up first thing in the morning without an appointment and they told me to simply wait 15-20 minutes while they did it on the spot.. I grabbed a quick breakfast and sure enough they called me quickly letting me know it was done. Only paid $20 for the patch job and decided to get new wiper blades for an additional $20. I think Wheel Works charges $35 for the same tire repair. I like this place better and everyone was really friendly. read more

These guys are terrific. They give very personable service and are known to be good cab repairmen, and that's a very good sign. They looked over my Saturn and said they didn't specialize in my problem, but they found someone who did, and got me there, for nothing. Talk to Harrison Leung, a very down to Earth straight talking fellow, he won't steer you wrong. He saved me money over the estimate for a new transmission I got in San Mateo. Too bad the garage space is smaller than it should be so more prospective auto customers, not thrilled with other shops within the area, could enjoy service at this place. In a nutshell, the auto repair shop is very efficient, fair priced, professional like attention, very courteous, articulate and patient in explaining what has to be done and why. The garage is one of the cleanest I have ever seen in decades which in itself is not my priority but needs to be complimented, also well managed and thorough. Harrison and Auto Stop saved me! My van died in the middle of the street about a month ago on one of the few rainy days we have had...just my luck! I used my phone to find a repair shop near my location on Potrero Hill; I called three, first one no answer, second one not helpful, third time Harrison picked up. I explained the situation, asked if he could recommend a towing company, he did and Aldon was towing my van in within 20 minutes (Aldon even gave me a ride to the rental car place after we dropped the van at Auto Stop). In less than 45 minutes I went back to the repair shop to remove some items I needed from my van and Harrison had already diagnosed what was wrong...I needed a new fuel pump! He needed to order the part and even though it was already midday said he could probably have the van ready that evening. I told him no worries, I already had a rental car and I picked the van up the next morning (he even fixed my brake light and bent windshield wiper and didn't charge me). Incredible...as a small business owner I can tell you that Harrison and his team offer fantastic customer service. I wished I lived on Potrero Hill so I could have both my cars serviced at Auto Stop. At the end of the day I was so thankful that I found these guys (Harrison and Aldon)...who would have thought breaking down in the street on rainy day would turn into a good day. read more

if i had to nitpick it would be that i made an appointment for 8:30a, got there on time, and still had to wait cuz some lady pulled in 2 minutes before i did and they only have one smog check machine. good thing was i didn't have to get my car checked. their service is quick. other than that i'd definitely come back. the guys working there are friendly and knowledgeable and are willing to take the time to answer any questions you might have. read more

Finding a good auto repair shop you can trust is not easy. The owner, Harrison of Auto Stop is friendly, helpful and honest. He tells you exactly what he sees, what work is essential and why. I visited another body shop because of a damaged hood from falling object and some rattling sound in the bottom of my 2002 Toyota Rav 4. The body shop quoted me over $500 for work on the hood if done by them and referred me to Autostop to check on the rattling sound and possibility of finding a replacement hood for a cheaper price. Harrison checked on my car, detected other problems, showed and explained to me all needed to be done on my car. I agreed on the repair. He fixed the rattling sound by replacing 2 calipers holding the absorber. He changed the badly worn front brake pads, rotor and caliper, changed the spark plugs, replaced a gasket, did the oil change, repaired the loosened weather shield on both doors. He also called around and found the same replacement front hood in excellent condition and replaced the damaged hood for me. All these works cost me less than a thousand dollars whereas somewhere else would cost me 1.5 to 2 times over that. When the extensive repairs are done, Harrison showed me all the old parts and explained to me again why he needed to do those repair. Thanks to Auto Stop, my car looks and drives like new now. Easily the best experience I have ever had with a mechanic ... honest, communicative, straight forward. I had a lot of deferred maintenance on my jeep, with some problems other mechanics could not diagnose and Auto stop solved them all. I barely made it across the street for coffee after I dropped off the car and they were already calling me about what they found. Pictures, videos and reasonable prices, such a different experience from what I am used too. Not sure how I would ever go somewhere else after my first visit at auto stop and I think if I moved out of the city I would still take my car there. read more

I drive by this place everyday on my way to and from work. A few months ago this was a really dirty run down mechanic shop. Just about a week ago i notice the shop doors was open and the place look immaculate inside. Well enough with prologue, so a few days ago i dropped in to AutoStop to get an oil change. BY FAR this is the CLEANEST shop i ever stepped into. I pulled up and was greeted by who i assumed is the service writer, his name is Harrison. Harrison told me the oil change will take about 20 minutes. Not too bad, i had some time to kill. Luckily there's an awesome cafe across the street. After i got my coffee and chilled outside for a bit, my car was ready! that is some QUICK service. Harrison told me some of my lights were out and that i needed brakes but not right now. Harrison and his crew are a fantastic team. They are basically a personal pit stop for nascar finishing everything at super fast speed once you get your car in the door. It is hard getting in due to the many customers he's serving. You know Auto Stop is doing something right when they have too many customers. People like their work and I can see why. He services each car with care including my old bucket (a 2005 civic). He knows I want this to run for at least another sixteen years. I dropped off my car to have it serviced and it runs smooth like butter when I got it back. When I first brought in it felt funny when it turned on and it made squeaking noises. When I got it back all the symptoms were gone. I didn't even mention the noises and it all managed to go away due to his crews care and services. I cannot recommend him enough. He lectures me about taking better care of my car, but I know it because he cares and knows my intention to have my running for the long haul. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with AutoStop. Be nice to the crew, they have no obligation to fix your car or accept your business they have so much business they can start choosing who they want to service. read more

Also the fact that he shows you the old part that was changed out and points out things that are wearing that doesn't necessarily need to be changed right now but so that I'm aware off is badass. I brought my car there to put on 2 new tires and rotate them (I brought my own tires). They charged me $70 ($35 per tire change, rotating was free). No problems at all, very friendly. Will go there again. read more
