This place is awesome! Finding an honest mechanic is almost as hard as finding an honest plumber. Harrison and his crew are amazing. We had our catalytic converter stolen from our Prius (apparently this is very common in SF) and not only was Auto Stop able to replace it within a couple of days and at a price much less than the dealer, they kept their shop open late on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend to install a CAT shield (device that deters thieves) on our other Prius. Really great group at AutoStop. Dropped off a recently acquired vehicle that I knew needed pads, rotors, smog, and oil. Turned out to be a lot more than expected, but I was informed at every step and thus far every issue I had identified was addressed. Only thing I would note is that there is no alignment rack here so if you get new tires you will need to go elsewhere to do the alignment, as I had to do. read more

I live in Potrero Hill and regret not coming here much sooner. This place is great. I had a nail in my tire and I was expecting to have to drop my car off for a few hours while I waited my turn to get it fixed. Nope - I showed up first thing in the morning without an appointment and they told me to simply wait 15-20 minutes while they did it on the spot.. I grabbed a quick breakfast and sure enough they called me quickly letting me know it was done. Only paid $20 for the patch job and decided to get new wiper blades for an additional $20. I think Wheel Works charges $35 for the same tire repair. I like this place better and everyone was really friendly. read more

This place is awesome!! As a women there can be some skepticism walking into a body shop for the fear of getting haggled. Not here! I called immediately after my car started smoking and had the pleasure of speaking with Ken. He told me they had one rack left and will hold it for me, I rushed right over. Ken and Harrison are the best! Ken was very informative and patient, he took the time to explain what was going on with my car. He gave me his recommendations and his transparency as to what needed to be done was much appreciated. Pricing was very fair, so I agreed to the work. My car was ready within hours, I couldn't believe it! And to top it off ended up being less than the quoted price. Harrison ended up breaking down the invoice and offered some great advice should anything happen to my car again. I never once felt taken advantage of or pressured into getting the work done. I will definitely be going here for any car needs and have already recommended this place to a few people. We can all agree having your car break down is not fun! Hmmm, I was headin' over to Auto Stop to finally get my car its much needed oil change and brake inspection, I was sure to get there before they close on Saturdays, rolled up at 1:23pm on the dot and found that their front door and garage door are locked, no sign posted on either doors. Called the office and got the voicemail greeting "Hi! And thank you for calling Auto Stop, blah blah blah, we are open Saturdays from 9am to 3pm, blah blah blah." TIRE REPAIR FAST! I'm not kidding when I say it took longer to get there then it did to repair my tire. I had a bolt stuck middle of tread. I called ahead and was told to come in when I could. I am a former racecar mechanic and I do most of my own work on my car - however in the past few years, my life has become busier to the point where I can't take a weekend to fix issues that come up with my car. I've walked into Auto Stop a few times to get tires mounted & have a nail removed from a tire, and both times I've been treated really well. I saw that they worked on everything from SF cabs to high end German sedans, so I walked in today to see if they had time to diagnose a brake issue and steering issue. Have had my two Japanese luxury cars serviced by Auto Stop. Very pleased with the knowledge & thoroughness of their diagnostic and repair work. One of the car's was making a mysterious noise when breaking, Harrison is patient in explaining the process of diagnosis and remedy. Will continue to bring the cars to Auto Stop! The name "Auto Stop" seems like a analogy to a "Pit Stop" in racing, but I can't help but think it should be named "Auto Go". But hey, whats in a name anyway? Auto Stop used to be K & J Auto Service. This new ownership has been the best thing to happen to this shop! Harrison, the new owner, is probably the most honest car guy I've ever met. He explains everything to you AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE so that you're aware of what the problem is and what your options for fixing it are. Plus, they do try to get you discounts on parts. So you know they're not just trying to rip you off. You can also ask for pictures sent to your phone of what the problems may be. I get updates before and after repairs. AMAZING! Oh, and it looks like they have a partner smog testing station so bonus points for also doing the smog test for me! I trust these guys completely. My boyfriend and I recently just moved out to Potrero and have been looking for a auto shop that we can trust in and rely on. I am really picky about my car as well as my boyfriend. So when my boyfriend's oil light came on and we felt like there was a leak, he took it over to Auto Stop after reading numerous reviews. We dropped the car off and the shop took a look at the car. They called back and said that there was a broken gasket which was causing the leaks and therefore, they needed to order parts and replace it. The great thing about Auto Stop was that they actually took a photo of the car and the areas that needed work, texted it over to my boyfriend while he was at work so that he can see. This is a first and I've never seen a shop do this before. The estimate cost was $350 for everything ($100 for the labor, 3 hours, and for the materials). My boyfriend definitely wasn't expecting to spend so much with what we expected to just be an oil change or something minor, so he did some research and called a couple other places that quoted his a ridiculous amount ($125/hour of labor and an estimate of 4-5 hours for labor time). He checked online and found that it shuld only take about 3 hours. We decided to move forward with Auto Stop because they were 1. honest with the estimates and good with pricing (in comparison to other shops and online research) and 2. they also demonstrated a high level of professionalism and quality when they snapped photos of the problem area so. They fixed everything within a day and we just picked up our car. My boyfriend coulnd't be more happy with Auto Stop as am I. They sent photos during the process of repair to update my boyfriend so that he knows its getting fixed. In a business where auto mechanics are known to be sneaky and lie about services or who try to up sell and take advantage of clients, I am really happy we had found Auto Stop. They are honest, professional, and reliable. We feel at ease knowing that we would be taken care of here the next time we come back. read more

This review is only for a SMOG Check: I was referred to Auto Stop by my mechanic, needing a quick, easy and fairly priced Smog Check place, which does the STAR certificate for the DMV registration renewal. Everyone was very nice and professional. The SMOG check was done in 5 minutes. The total price was $59.99, but I'd ask if there is a discount/deal going on. I did a ton of research, and although some places were offering SMOG Checks for less, they were either Test Stations, did not include the certificate in their advertised price, or were not STAR certified. Thus, I found this to be a pretty fair price. read more

The quality of parts they use never failed me unlike Gava's that put in the wrong radiator fluid and cost me a lot to fix the damage done to my car... I had a few good experience with this shop before, they had work on my brakes and did oil changes. One day my car was mis firing and brought my car in to get it check. The diagnostic cost 140 just to see whats wrong and was told initially that my sensor needed to be replace. I left my car there and picked it up the next day, paid 750 dollars and the car was still mis firing. I brought the car back to them and had to leave the car over the weekend because they were closing and can't diagnose my car again until next Monday. I received a call from them saying it was a wiring issue and also that my valve cover needed to be replace. They again quoted me 600+ to replace the valve cover. I took my car out of their shop and had a mobile mechanic come to my home and fixed the issue for 160. They seem like nice guys but if I paid 140 to diagnose my car, they should've known from the beginning that my valve cover needed to replace and not charge me more for labor cost and I had to leave my car there for days and had to take a cab to work from Pacifica, everything was inconvenient and I will never bring my car to their shop again. read more

I've done numerous repairs at this shop and they've never failed to impress me (but be sure to schedule in advance since they've got a long line of customers.) I've gotten a new catalytic converter installed so my car would pass smog for below what most other shops charge plus numerous repairs like flats repairs, oil changes, tire rotations, etc. It's also very close to UCSF so if you work there, it's quite convenient to drop your car off here and walk to work. read more

My girlfriend came here for a brake job. Front and back complete on an older ford escort. She came home having paid $741 dollars. I told her that was too much. Went to speak with Harrison the manager. He went bezerker on me for saying he overcharged. Told me to call around if I could get a better deal he would refund me. I called 3 places all 3 gave me better quotes. One of them by 200$ the other 2 by 100+. Bezerker then officially lost it and threatened me with violence. Lol. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Not because he overcharged. I get it. That's the game right? I wouldn't recommend it because even when I called 3 places in his shop on speakerphone he still argued, threw hilarious threats of violence my way and I left with no refund. This is a one star review for lousy customer service. I made an appointment for a smog check, oil change and brake inspection. Next day I showed up exactly on time and was told sorry but you need a STAR certified smog check and we don't do those. I thought all smog check places were the same, but OK maybe I should have known about STAR certified and checked in advance. So I said OK I'll just do the oil change and brake inspection. I was then told sorry but we're too busy to do it. I told them I had an appointment but again got a sorry and an excuse about previous work having backed up. This place has a lot of five star reviews for the quality of their work, but breaking appointments is a very poor practice. I spent almost 30 minutes driving across town to get there and the same amount home again for absolutely nothing - very frustrating. read more

I often go to get my smog done at Potrero Test Only just a few minutes away. The last time I was over there, I learned that Harrison (the owner) was opening up a second shop to focus on automotive repairs and whatever else you want. I used to go to another auto shop down by VanNess and they're just OK (pure convenience), so why the switch?? Cause 7X7 named Potrero Test Only the best smog station in SF....and you gotta listen to 7x7! That tells you something.... So I ended up taking my car to Auto Stop to get a long overdue maintenance done and by no surprise, Harrison and his team at Auto Stop delivers again! The last thing I ever want to feel is going into an auto shop and feeling like you're being ripped off because you're a female - this is not the case here! I was actually told NOT to do a few things because it's not necessary yet. I like people who are honest, friendly, and makes me feel comfortable going back to them....this is what Auto Stop did. Needed a quick oil change so I pulled in here while in the Potrero Hill neighborhood. The five stars do not lie...half an hour later (productively spent at nearby Farley's), Auto Stop speedily changed the oil (thankfully just using the typical synthetic oil, and not the super expensive kind), changed the filter, and adjusted my tires. My little red Fiat was super happy after this TLC. I would definitely come back after such friendly service when in the neighborhood again! read more

I typically take my car into a dealership to get my services done but times are tough and it's harder to spend three figures for a 5k service so I learned how to rotate my own tires and found this amazing place to get oil change done. They were quick and efficient and had a coupon for $35 for the oil change. Harrison helped me at the counter and was very honest with the time frame it was going to take. Ended up taking less than 30 minutes. They offer free wifi if you wait there but it doesn't mean you'll end up doing very much since they were so fast. I barely had enough time to finish this game I was playing before he told me it was finished. I was still playing when he was ringing me up because I didn't want to lose my coins (ever that that 8 ball pool game? yes...addictive).
