I called ahead of time and let them know what needed to be done, and made plans to bring my car in the next day. Made plans for a ride to/from work and dropped it off before they opened. Didn't get a call throughout the day. Called in the late afternoon, they said Tom was out, would call me back later. He never did. Next day, I still heard nothing. Called in the middle of the day and they said it wouldn't be done for at least another week because there was "a lot of stuff that needed to be done". Simmered over that for a bit and called them back, this time talked to Tom. Turns out they hadn't even TOUCHED the car. I went over and picked up my car, and won't be back. VERY poor communication. This is our primary vehicle and when I say I need something done, I expect it to be done. If it can't be in a timely manner, I expect to be called. read more

This place literally,almost killed me. TWICE. I have an older Lincoln and since this shop seems to dabble with older models I thought I'd give this place a try. The brake booster (that was purchased at another garage that I don't like) that they installed was junk. I was going to go to Long Beach after picking them up but they felt odd, so I decided to go home 1st and that's when they gave, No pressure, foot to the floor, MOFO! Had to creatively maneuver in the neighborhood to find a spot to stop with all my might, then got it towed the next day. After this issue was resolved, I'm on the highway when some douche is about to cut me off so I go for the horn, and no sound! WTF, the horn was disconnected and I know I didn't do it. read more

I pretty much had the same experience as Mike here. The work wasn't done right the first time and I had to take it back several times. The car would be left there for days. I would show up and I always got some excuse as to why they didn't have time to get to it or how they were about to call me soon. In the end I gave up on them and went elsewhere and had it fixed right the first time. This place has a lot of classic cars around. I get the impression they might only focus on those cars and leave everything else low on their priority list. Avoid this place. read more

They didn't finish until months after they said they would, She ended up paying $10,000s more than she should have AND the car still didn't run and has had major problems since. I was a long term customer at Auto Tek and spent over $8,000.00 in total with them. It took me a while to figure out that they were not always upfront about things. Repairs always took much longer than expected. Excuses were always abound. In fact I found out my car sat for over a week the last time I was there even though they said they would start on it the day I dropped it off. Most of the time, the repairs were not done properly the first time around, so I would have to spend more time and money going back. Furthermore, they want to charge dealer prices without dealer expertise. I am truly dissappointed by their service and would not reccommend them to anyone. As a long time (25+ years) customer of Auto-Tek, I'm unnerved by the negative reviews this fine business has received. I first became aware of them back in 1986 or 1987 via a coupon in the Pennysaver for an oil change. They were located close to where I was working at the time, so it was convenient. They were in an older, smaller building (also in Orange) and were very busy. Tom took care of me right away, even though it was just for an oil change and he earned my business. Since then, I have taken my cars to Auto-Tek exclusively when service or repairs are needed. The newer location they have been in for the past several years is more spacious, accessible and conducive to handling more business. Good thing they moved to this larger location, they need it to handle the additional business I (and I'm sure many others) have sent them. Whenever I have needed a ride to get to them, or home after dropping off my car for repair, they have been there for me. The prices are fair and they have always properly diagnosed and repaired any vehicle I have taken them. They have customer friendly hours (8am to 6pm) and are open six days a week. Let's face it, auto repair shops in general do not have the best reputations and are often thought of as businesses who will gouge people, or look to replace things that are not broken. You will never experience that at Auto-Tek. I heartily recommend Tom and his staff at Auto-Tek and have confidence you'll be taken care of promptly, with professionalism and have peace of mind your car was properly repaired. read more

its been about 10 years since this happened but yelp wasn't always there, and I have the reminder sitting in my garage everyday. I had my engine rebuilt here for a mercury. Everything went well so I thought.. Got the car back and started daily driving. 2 weeks later driving to lax (about 40 miles away) piston melted or broke is how they phrased it to me when I took it back to Autotek. They said it wasn't their fault cause I probably had an old radiator causing it to overheat which is strange because I replaced the 2 core radiator with a 3 core radiator just before the engine was rebuilt. Very reluctantly and rudely they agreed to redo the engine. After all that they returned the car and in passing the mechanic mentioned that the flywheel teeth were mostly broken and it would need to be repaired soon. Flywheel can only be repaired with pulling the engine. They had the engine out and didn't even think to call me to mention it. Really long story short the engine failed again about a month after the one year warranty and has been sitting in my garage ever since as a constant reminder of what happened. (in case you are wondering it was the last car my grandma bought before she died) read more

We had a misunderstanding in terms of the quoted price for the repair, so when we found out that it was going to cost more, Tom did the right thing and stuck by his original estimate anyway. Not a lot of repair shops would do that and that makes me think very highly of them. He also had the car done the same day we dropped it off and overall him and his mechanics were very friendly towards me. Overall it seems like a very good and honest operation. I have been taking all my cars to Tom for close to 15 years now and I trust him with my cars. He has always been honest and up front on what the car needs done and what it doesn't need. Heck he's even won the Honest Mechanic award and was on 20/20 back in the 90's. Yes, I know it's 2013, but good honest service is always number one in my book and my friends and family that I refer to Tom have always been happy with the service they have had there. So the negative comments, not sure where they are coming from. Heck I'd take my car to Tom any day rather then the dealership and save triple the price that the dealership would charge. read more
