The ONLY good thing about my car breaking down in Manhattan Beach is that when I yelped a nearby mechanic, I found Kenny at Auto Werkstatt! Kenny turned out to be my mechanic angel. For example, I called Kenny, and even though it was going to be after closing time before my car would arrive there via AAA, he said he would wait for me! Furthermore, my ride wouldn't be able to pick me up until 7pm due to work, and whereas any other mechanic would have left me on my own, Kenny stayed and let me wait in his shop to make sure I was safe. Wow. Just wow. Kenny also tried to resolve my car issue the cheapest way possible. Although it appeared to be a transmission issue, and any other mechanic would have immediately jumped to fixing the transmission and make some good money, Kenny first exhausted all the cheaper alternatives it might have been that could be affecting the transmission, in order to try to save me money! What kind of mechanic does that? When I decided to sell the car because I couldn't afford a new transmission, he even called a few people he knew that might be interested. I have driven German cars for over 25 years and have dealt with dealers and independent shops and I know a good value and good service when I see it. This is both. The owner Ken is fair and honest. Indeed, he could've slapped me with a big bill to fix my trunk which was not opening and he gave it a quick fix without cost. He's the type of guy that will recommend the least costly yet appropriate fix for your car. He has the latest tech that the dealers have but his rates are far less and the service and advice is far better. Dealers mechanics can be lazy and recommend large expensive replacements rather than troubleshooting easy fixes as there's no incentive or money in the latter. Ken was great. I would definitely bring in my Audi A5 for future repairs. He's a very honest, forthright person. The rear passenger wheel of our Audi A5 blew while driving on the highway, the shredded rubber/cords were flailing as the tire spun, and it ripped open the liner inside the wheel well. I called a few places including the Audi dealership to get some estimates to replace the liner. The dealership wanted $430, after I tried negotiating a lower price. I called a few local places near me and after talking to Ken, I decided to bring it in, to get an estimate to compare prices. Ken took a look at the tire as well as the liner, and went about tightening the fasteners on the liner. After a little time, he gave me gave me some recommendations about the tires, getting an alignment and told me I was all set with the liner. There was just one area of the liner torn from the fastener and he said it's good to go - I didn't need to replace the liner and I didn't have to waste $430 at the Audi dealership. read more

These guys are awesome. They do great work at reasonable prices. I had a rattle in my car that I just couldnt figure out. I ended up taking apart my center console and triggering the airbag sensor trying to fix it myself. I took the car into them and Ken reset my computer for no charge. And August went for a ride with me and in 5 mins figured out the problem. A couple of hours later rattle free! (The rattle drove me nuts that I was thinking about selling the car!) These guys have also done my clutch and modified the IMS (removed the seal) on my 997 as well as a variety of other services. Professional service each time. Way better than going to the dealer. He took care of my car, did a major tune up and had some parts replaced under fidelity warranty without me having to even dig up a policy number! Super pro-active , no bs mechanic! He repairs what's needed and gives you options for your budget. No pressure talk. My car was sold to me with an after market exhaust (which I knew) but without cats (which I did not know). Ken called me, told me that's illegal and rather than be fine with it he offered to call the dealership and take care of it without me having to even ask! I took my car to Kenny to have it serviced last month. He was honest in telling me what I needed and what I didn't and quoted me a decent price. He took his time to educate me and explained what he was going to do and how much it was going to cost. I asked him lots of questions and he never got annoyed even though I asked him to explain things over and over again. He initially thought one of the ignition coils needed to be replaced. When he began working on my car, he found out he didn't need to replace my ignition coil and he called me right away to let me know that. I really appreciate that since any other mechanic would have replaced it anyways. In addition, he was able to save me $700. He noticed the valve cover gasket on my car was leaking. Instead of asking me if I wanted him to work on it, he recommended I take my car to the BMW dealership since the part was covered under the manufacturer warranty. Thanks Kenny! What can I say Ken and his team are AMAZING and Honest......I came in for an oil change today, they were open but not for servicing cars. Ken and his team asked what I needed and offered to help until I could bring my car in for an appointment. They checked my oil level since my car was telling me I was due for an oil change. Once they checked the car out, it seemed that i was just low on about a quart of oil but would be due for my oil change soon and maybe also my front brakes. I found Auto Werkstatt based on reading all of the great Yelp reviews. I decided to give them a call to see if the sound I was hearing was something they could diagnose and fix. From the very first call Kenny was extremely helpful he even explained to me what was probably happening. So I brought my BMW in due to a problem with the clutch as well as to have some other maintenance issues taken care of. They went to extreme measures to do things the right way and even notified me of other things that they saw wrong with the car. Here is the long and the short of it. Are they good at fixing cars? Yes! Can the owner be long-winded and a bit creepy to deal with? Yes! They know their cars and can diagnose and fix most issues for a reasonable price. The owner can be difficult to deal with. His personality is "used car salesman-ish". He talks way too much, and listens not enough. He likes to come across as your new best friend, some people like that, and it creeps some folks out. He is very much against after-market parts and will only install factory and factory recommended parts. That is both good and bad, depending on your financial situation. They are very busy, so plan on a rental for the day. Bottom line: If you can put up with the personality and the wait, you'll get your car fixed correctly. read more
