I have been going to this shop for years, but I hadn't had service done during COVID until now and didn't realize that the business is anti-mask. They have a sign up reflecting this and Robert Drake was not wearing a mask. I've included a pic below of an erroneous statement (making the social media rounds) posted in Autobahn. A quick fact check reveals: An image circulating on social media erroneously claims that the total number of deaths in the U.S. in 2020 was significantly down compared to previous years. The meme -- which implies COVID-19 restrictions weren't needed -- actually uses an incomplete figure for 2020 and makes a flawed comparison. A report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that from late January through Oct. 3, there were an estimated 299,028 excess deaths -- meaning deaths higher than what would be expected during that time period, based on previous years. Two-thirds were estimated to be directly attributed to COVID-19. But a popular post shared on Instagram and Facebook is erroneously claiming that the total number of deaths was actually down, significantly, in 2020 compared to years past. "The Stats - Why We've All Had Our Lives Stolen From Us in 2020," the meme is headlined. I have three previously healthy family members (one in her 20's - a nurse, one in her 40's, and one in her 60's) who suffered through COVID and now have permanent lung damage. Even if a person recovers, the long-term effects of this illness are nothing to take lightly. And the long-term effects aren't just lung-related - other organs, including the brain, can be damaged as well. Any reasonable precaution that we as a society can take to avoid spreading this nasty illness should be taken. The nurse relative referenced above is exhausted by all of the folks who come through the hospital with COVID who die refusing to believe they have the illness - it's always something else, they say - bronchitis, pneumonia, whatever. Oh my. I REALLY wish I'd known about Autobahn Automotive from the time I arrived in Raleigh two years ago!! And now I've moved on to Phoenix and couldn't bring them with me! Robert and Erin are fantastic. Tired of dealing with the VW dealership's "glass half empty" and "can't get you in for a week" mentality, I decided to try AA. I popped over unannounced one day after hearing a squealing/hissing sound in my VW's engine compartment. They checked it out for free (on the spot, and at the end of the day!) and gave me an estimate. They offered an appointment for the next day (hello, VW dealership?!! This is what customer service looks like!). Due to my schedule I couldn't make it that day, but was able to come first thing the following day. Autobahn Automotive treated me and my vehicle with dignity and respect. This is the type of automotive repair establishment that's extremely rare, these days. The owner, "Robert" puts so much pride into the repair work and the customer care that I found it almost unbelievable, because I'm always bracing myself for a bad situation with most mechanics. However, this was a completely unexpected and great experience. My engine was locked up, so I was in need of an engine replacement. I search Yelp and found Autobahn Automotive. Talked with Robert over the phone, he kept me in the loop on everything going on with his sources, and informed me that he was initially sent a few bad engines, that were not up to his standard. Subsequently, he refused to install them and put me in a negative position for costly future repairs. Instead, Robert kept sending those poor quality engines back and requested better quality until they finally sent an engine that had low miles and was in great condition. The engine was installed within only 2 days, I'm now riding again with a big smile on my face. I brought my car in for a complete once over, "what needs to be done" kind of check up on a Thursday morning. It hadn't been serviced in a while, so I knew to expect many repairs. Erin greeted me with a smiling face, and I had a good feeling about the place right off the bat. I left my car with them, and after a few hours, I got a quote emailed to me with a detailed list of everything that Robert recommended, and the cost breakdown of parts and labor + tax. It was really great to have everything listed. I looked it over, gave him a call back, and he was able to answer all my questions. As a woman, I often have reservations about being cheated by mechanics, but I felt confident that Robert was taking time to explain everything and only recommending things I really needed. I absolutely cannot imagine a better mechanic that the incredible folks at Autobahn. We've been taking my reliable old '96 VW Jetta there for nearly 10 years and have received nothing but stellar service. Robert is brilliant - he is accurate, informative and helpful. I swear the man knows everything there is know about foreign (and domestic) vehicles. We once tried to explain to his lovely wife Erin some strange noises in the car and she said "don't worry, he hears everything." And he does. I trust his recommendations completely and he has never steered us wrong. Robert and Erin are truly customer focused and will bend over backwards to take care of us. They have a loaner vehicle that can be reserved for long repairs... they will even drive me around the corner to work without hesitation if I need to leave my car for a few hours. SO, Emailed this place to get a quote and a guy Named Robert called me to discuss the work i wanted done to my 2016 lexus. I explained to him that i had AFTERMARKET parts that i wanted to have installed. I told him that i had a down pipe, a charge pipe and a turbo muffler that were aftermarket and i wanted to get a quote. After discussing with him that this install would take approximately 3 hours to complete everything he (Robert) told me it would be $350 to do the job. I told him great and set up a time to bring the car in. He said friday morning to bring the car and parts by and he would take a look at everything to make sure this was a job he could do. I got to the shop (AutoBahn Automotive) about 8:10am and went inside. The secretary took down all my information and took my keys to someone in the shop. While waiting in the front room i hear my car crank up and is pulled into the shop. (No word or hello or anything from the Robert i had talked to) Notice my trunk is opened and the box containing the performance parts is taken out. I sit in the waiting room thinking that if there is an issue or change with pricing or time that someone would come and speak to me. After 3 hours, Robert comes to the waiting room and says my car is ready. I look at him and say nice to meet you since this is the first time i have spoken to him in person since talking on the phone. I hand him my debit card to pay for the install which was quoted at $350 and he hands me a reciept for $500. WTF??? So i proceed to ask him what the deal is since we had agreed on $350 and he tells me he is not supposed to install performance parts that go around the emmission system (After market Downpipe from turbo has a resonator and not a catalic converter) Ok so you are not supposed to install this part...Then why the H*ll did you not stop when you saw the down pipe and come discuss the matter with me? NOT 1 WORD!!! Then he tells me he will not give me a reciept for the work since he wasn't supposed to do the work anyways. WHAT A SCAM! So i left as he (Robert rushes off touch since they go at 11:30 sharp..)_and drove my car to the house where i open the trunk to get the stock parts out and what do i find? Everything that was taken off to get the parts i brought in to have installed are in my trunk!!! The heat shields, the brackets, the stock plastic that goes underneith..everything that was supposed to go back on the car. Since it took him till 11:30 i am assuming they figured they needed to go to lunch so not to worry about putting the parts back on the car or discussing the matter at all with me. I thought going into this shop and reading the reviews that i had found a shop to start doing my normal service work as well as repairs etc. NO WAY IN H#LL will i recommend this place or go back. They screwed me out of $150 and treated me like sh#T. If there was an issue then by all means the owner (Robert ) should have come and talked to me. He knew i was going to be there waiting for the car to get done and could have expressed his concerns about installing parts he is not supposed to install. He knew what the parts were when he took on the job as well as he knew when he took the parts out of the box. He still installed them knowing (FROM WHAT HE SAYS) that he isn't supposed to install them. Any reputable mechanic can look at a down pipe and tell if there is a resonator or catalytic converter installed on it so he doesn't need to use that excuse. He agreed from the start to charge me $350 knowing the job would take 3 hours. Then he screws me by charging my card for $500. Worst shop i have ever been involved with. Take a $40,000 car to him and he treats it like a $500 car. read more

Autobahn is the best choice you can make for getting your vehicles serviced. Robert is an excellent mechanic and he runs a professional business. Estimates are detailed and often include photos of the parts needing work. Work is done in a timely manner and the communication is excellent. It's not as close to my home or work as other places, but it's worth the extra time and distance to have our cars serviced here. We've made the mistake in the past to "cheat" on Robert and go somewhere closer to home. That has been a mistake!!! Find Autobahn Automotive, stick with Robert - you and your car will be very happy.
