Disastrous experience. Probably out of incoming business, this shop resorted to trying to lure customers via a Groupon sale for a/c refill services. After multiple attempts to schedule an appt, I have finally got one, but - interestingly enough - with no request on their part to have my name and/or contact info recorded. That should have alerted me about their incompetence... In any case - proceeded to show up for my appt, just to be told that there was no mechanic available, and to come back the next day. Having tried to understand how could this be possible, I was told by the guy on premise to call Groupon and get my money back, if I didn't like it?!? TL;DR: stay away from this business read more

Autohaus always fixes my car quickly, with friendly staff and a competitive price. When I was having major battery issues, they replaced my alternator for half the price of the dealership with same-day service. Most recently, they found an issue my car has been having for over a year and fixed it for free! They don't talk down to me either, like some mechanics do (being a young woman). I had my car in at the dealer for a scheduled maintenance where it was recommended I also consider getting the breaks done. Volvo service quoted me and I did a quick search for the parts online and found I could get them for 50% off from another dealer. Volvo offered no price break, so I looked around and AutoHaus was quick to quote me 1/3 the price of what Volvo had, with authentic parts as well. AutoHaus' quote was also significantly less than to two other independent shops. Gary at AH got me in the same day despite being super busy already and the repair was done in a few short hours. Damn.. just when I thought that I had found an honest, trustworthy, non creepy mechanic...again I was sadly mistaken. I have to admit I did give AutoHaus 5 stars until I had to return a week later (Note to self wait a while before giving a review). First, I went to AutoHaus because I requested a quote on yelp and Gary replied quoting me a pretty decent price. so I call him to confirm and he seemed honest and direct. First sign things were off, I had some creepy harassment issues with one of Gary's (the owner) assistants, but once I confronted him on how uncomfortable he made me feel he did apologized. Moving forward I asked Gary to look things over to make sure all was well in addition to what I came in for. After charging me and spending almost 2000 dollars about a week later I had to return because my car didn't pass the admissions test. Gary then tells me that I now need an additional 700.00 worth of work done. Gary says " did I not see that my water hose was broken and damaging the engine of the car and that the car was not to be driven". Now I am thinking (you said my car was in great condition when I drove off last week) how is it now that all of a sudden I need a brand new water hose??? and my car is damaged. Be careful ladies...Gray is very good at fucking you over with a gentle smile and or talking circles around you. Making you feel confused, with his catch phrase being "I just want you to be happy" or "don't worry the car is going to run like new". Also, I don't know if he does this to everyone or just women of color but he is going to want half the payment up front??? read more

I can't state enough how great Nick was to me at Auto Haus. I needed some extended warranty repairs done so brought my Acura to Auto Haus. Unfortunately, the warranty company ended up requiring me to bring it to the dealership, but Nick examined my car anyways and told me exactly what I should inform the dealership to get repaired, just out of kindness (which in turn builds great business relationships). After the repairs, he even told me to bring my car back so that he could examine their work and make sure I didn't get cheated. It turns out that the dealership didn't do as good of a job as they should have, and he pointed out to me exactly what they did wrong and explained why! I have never come across an auto shop that put so much into keeping the customer happy, even when they weren't paying customers! Nick was honest, fair and super polite. He even told me, "having your car repaired right and making sure its safe to drive is the most important thing". You guys, I don't want to jinx it but I think I found the one. I told myself I wasn't going to get in another relationship so soon but this feels too good to just let go. It feels so nice to be in an honest, constructive relationship, one that feels like things are finally moving the right direction. Yes, I'm talking about a relationship with a trustworthy mechanic. I was an idiot for not going with these guys sooner. I had been going to the dealer to get work done out of convenience and didn't realize the damage that has caused over the years. I thought I was on top of all the maintenance and that nothing was going to sneak up on me because the service guys at the dealer know me and would let me know of any issues that may come up. I figured that it was about time to get a brake check and also I was going to try and save a little money too, after all, brake work is just a routine job. Let me tell you, the Autohaus guys hooked it up. They checked everything they could AND not only that, but they showed me the work. My dealer never told me what poor condition my brake lines were in and always told me that I have a minor leak which turned out to be pretty major. These guys fixed all the little issues they found and I was quoted a very good deal. There were so many issues that I didn't think it would all get done in a day during my first visit. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually stayed after hours to get all the work done. I love that their work ethic matches my own when it comes to my work. I know what you're thinking, my first instinct was to think they may be lying about all of the work that stacked up too, until the owner Gary showed me every single new part installed while the car was on the jack. He then went above and beyond and rode in the car with me while I drove it just to show me that everything is running great all without me having to ask. FYI: Gary isn't just some silent investor of this place, he actually knows cars and works on them too. While I was there, his personal truck was at the shop too and it looks immaculate for being what looks like 10 years old or more. Anthony and his team did a great job getting my Jeep back up-and-running. No BS. Just great, reliable service.

I was pretty shaken up by an over-zealous neighbor who fired off two bullets while chasing an intruder down the alley behind my house. Although he missed the intended target, he managed to send two bullets through my garage door, shattering its way into my rear windshield, and fracturing out the front. I had just had foot surgery and couldn't drive, but wanted my car repaired asap because I became irate every time I saw the unnecessary damage to my vehicle. I called Autohaus and explained my situation to Anthony, the manager, who was genuinely sympathetic. He asked where I lived, and when I told him I was only a few miles away, he volunteered to come to my house, pick up my car, and drive it back to Autohaus with the windshields in ruins. The fact is, the car would eventually end up at Belmont-Heights Auto Body, where the windshield repair would be done. Autohaus does mechanics while Belmont Heights does body work. Both shops are owned by Gary Kinsler, another really decent guy. Fortunately, my zealous neighbor was insured, so their policy covered all of the costs. That's when I learned that Belmont Heights is a State Farm recommended repair shop--even better! They handled everything for me! In addition to my windshields, I'd had two rear brake bulbs that were out, which Anthony had replaced at AutoHaus at no additional charge. The next interaction I had with these guys was when I picked my car up at Autohaus. I asked Anthony what I owed him for the new bulbs and he responded with a customer's favorite words, "No charge." My car looked better than before the incident because, not only had they replaced the windshields with no perceptible difference (the rear shield was tinted darker than the original, but the car is a 2009, so the shield design had probably changed over time), but they gave me a wash and interior clean that was better than I ever received when I took my car to a dealer for repairs. NEVER have I had what I would describe as a pleasant experience with an auto repair shop...until now! I won't take my car anywhere else for service! Thank you, Anthony! read more

I got there at 8 a.m. and was able to get my oil changed and tires rotated immediately. They get busy quickly, so if you try to get in there and can't, try again - it's worth it! Gary is a great guy. I was able to chat with him as the place started to get busy. During my short time in the waiting area, he was solving all kinds of problems for customers from flat tires to check engine lights. My wife & I were very pleased with our first experience at Autohaus. Very honest mechanics. Here's the back story about how we came to find them: We had been going to Car-X Tire & Auto on Ashland for a few years before since our regular mechanic, Rightway Auto, closed. Seemed like every time we went into Car-X, we were told something else needed to be replaced. A few months back they recommended we replace the front brakes, said there was hardly any brake left. We weren't hearing or feeling any of the signs of worn breaks but we went ahead and did it based on their recommendation. They said the back breaks were ok at that time. About three months later we go back for another oil change and have them do a free brake inspection. At this time they tell us the back breaks now have only 3% left and they should be replace immediately. Furthermore, they tell us our new front breaks (that we had gotten just about three months before) had only 60% left on them. Something didn't feel right. Again no signs of break wear, we were just going off what they were telling us. My wife and I talked it over and we decided not to proceed with the break work. We opted to get a second opinion (we didn't tell Car-X this part). Life got in the way and we forgot about the second opinion on the brakes. A month went by and we put another 800 miles on our car before we remembered. At this time, we freaked out, and thought our car was probably to dangerous to even be on the road if we only had 3% brake one month and 800 miles back. But still no noise from the brakes. My wife called Autohaus immediately after we returned from a weekend driving trip to Indiana. They were super nice on the phone and told her to drop off the next day. She dropped off at 8am, they checked out the brakes and by mid-morning we got a call from them. Much to our surprise they reported that our front brakes were like new and our back breaks had 40% pad still left on them. In addition they did a full once over on the car and told us everything else looked good. I told them to go ahead and change the oil since they had it there and they told me I still had another 1,000 miles before I needed an oil change. I can't tell you how good it felt to find an honest mechanic. We'll be back to Autohaus for our oil changes and future car repairs. We won't be back to Car-X Tire & Auto (who lied to us about our breaks and god know what else over the last few years) read more

I stopped in yesterday evening because I live nearby and my brakes were making a scraping noise, indicating that they needed to be replaced. I asked how much it would cost and when they could do the work. They told me I would need to get new pads and new rotors, as they do not re-surface rotors, and this would cost around $800. I said that I was only interested in replacing the pads. The guy at the desk says let me talk to the owner, so he went into the garage and closed the door. He came back and said OK, I will stay a little late and do the pads now for $210. I said OK, great. I went retrieved my vehicle and pulled it into the garage and went home to wait for my vehicle. I received a call about an hour later and went back to pick up my vehicle. I gave him my debit card, and he said, "Oh, I can only take cash". I said, "I don't have $210 cash on me". He said, "Can't you go to an ATM?" I said " Can I drive the vehicle down to Chase to get the money?" He said, "OK, that will be fine". I returned with the cash, and I asked for a receipt. He said, "Oh, since we didn't do our normal process and we don't just replace brake pads, the owner said I can't give you a receipt." I said, "That's something you should have told me before saying you could do the work." He said, "Hey, pull the car back in, and I can put your old pads back on." That's when I left. Basically, I was tricked into getting a non-legit brake job at a licensed Chicago business. This is not OK, and the way this company apparently operates is shady at best. I will not go back here, and now I have brake pads that they put on that they will not acknowledge they put on. I will also be filing a complaint with the city of Chicago. That's just bad business. Buyer beware with this place. read more
