Not only did he charge me in full but the install box flooded my front yard and he took a few days to come back. Terrible experience with this company. Have used them for many years, including the prior owner of this house. This year will be the last. Scheduling is a nightmare, the spring turn on was done poorly and a zone had no pressure after they left. Tried to reschedule, was told "we will call you back" with no call back. Emailed them and a date/time was confirmed. That time comes and nobody shows up- we call the office and are told it was the following week, despite an email clearly saying the date and time. Reschedule, and I tell them they must be finished by a certain time, they do not arrive until a half hour after the must finish time, forcing me to change my schedule. They have serviced our house for years and we will not call them for any future use, as their office seems completely incapable. read more

I met Scott (the owner) 4 years ago, spoke to him about installing a 4 zone sprinkler system, the sidewalk, left & right side of the front lawn along with a 4th zone for our garden in the backyard. I decided not to have it done 4 years ago as I was working from home during covid. However, this year I decided to have it installed. I called Scott back and he actually remembered me along with what I requested. I asked him to come back and perform another assessment on what I needed done. When he came back, he brought back the original estimate along with his drawings of the project. I was very impressed to say the least. I did also have 2 other companies come out but ultimately decided to go with Automatic Irrigation Design. I am so very happy I went with Automatic Irrigation Design, two guys came on time on a Saturday morning at 8:30am. I went over everything Scott and I discussed, the two guys agreed with me and said that is what they have been told to do. They finished at 4pm which was a half an hour earlier than anticipated. We setup the WiFi controller, they also removed the old rain sensor from the previous sprinkler system along with some hoses that were exposed at the side of my house. The work done by Automatic Irrigation Design is so good, even my wife is happy with it. The areas that were dug up does not look like they were dug up. These are super neat and professional in every way. I would highly recommend this company. read more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible! This is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. First, I they didn't live up to the appointment I made with them. I had to call them and ask where they were. The woman, Deborah, tells me they are running late and can they come tomorrow? I was gracious enough to say yes, and she assured me they would be at my house before 10:30am. At 11:00 I called to ask where they were. They put me on hold and never answered my call. At 11:30 the guy shows up, assesses the job and says it's too big a job and it will take too much time. I call Deborah and she refuses to help me and have him stay and do the job. While I'm on the phone with her, the guy drives away. Luckily, Pacific Lawn Sprinkler came to the rescue. I'm sorry I didn't read the reviews here prior to calling Automatic Irrigation. My system was installed last fall. The personel were fast and efficieant , However the Water Department will not approve the installatrion as it does not meet East Meadow Water Dept. requirments. Repeated calls are frustrating as I am not allowed to speak to aManager to get someone to rectify the situation. Latest contact says they will fix problem this week . PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. PLEASE!!! I've seen them around for years, and decided to give them a call for an estimate. Spoke to their staff who transferred me to leave a voicemail for an appointment with Scott in sales. Scott calls me to say he can't make it out for a week. I ask him if he could come earlier because honestly, I received two other estimates who can actually start next week....Scott says " They are liars, there's a shortage in parts." He also decides to add "They are Belligerent, They're Dirty And They Speak NO English!!!" Here we go!!! Mind you I never mentioned the other companies' ethnicity or my own. I pollitly decline scheduling the appointment and I hang up. Needless to say this morning 7-2-21 I call the office of Automatic Irrigation Design in Hempstead to speak to whoever manages the sales staff to inform them of Scott's views. I was told the sales manager was SCOTT!!! WOW!!! So I speak to another gentle named Ed. Ed was polite and of course, shocked, since he's known Scott for 30 years and of course knows him not to have a racist bone blah blah the usual. I say hey Ed maybe not to you but They're Belligerent, They're Dirty and They Speak no English is not something you throw out when you're trying to do business. ( Unless you're sorta racist ) I thank him for listening and hang up. 3 MINUTES LATER..... Ed calls me back... He says we have no record of you calling here. I think you had the wrong company..... Wait.. What!??? I said well the young lady, who spoke to me this morning and transferred me to you, also worked YESTERDAY Correct? He says yes.....I said I know because she also helped me get to the Irrigation department to leave the message for your sales manager SCOTT.... Who called ME to make the initial appointmet. ( I know this is long but it's amazing how people still think in this country ) I said look ED I'm not asking you for anything or extorting you, I'm just informing you on who you have working for you. Automatic came in last week to install our system. It was a full install and they corrected the plumbing that the old installing company did incorrectly. They were polite, clean and did an incredible job. Our system works exactly as I hoped and they were priced right with the other companies. They even ran a blank pipe for me to put low voltage in our circular driveway garden. I definitely recommend them for your irrigation install. read more

When I bought my house 27 yrs. ago, it had a sprinkler system which had been installed by AID. I later added an addition on my home and stopped using the sprinkler system. Fast forward to 2021, I contacted AID and met with Scott who I understood to be the owner, nice guy. He said the old system was too outdated to repair and so I signed up for a new install at $2,850. Install was done 6/21/21, paperwork stated a 2 year guarantee covering both parts and labor, no disclaimers. Team was professional and worked hard all day. After that, I signed up for the Expanded winterize/summerize program ($318) which was supposed to cover repairs at no charge for first hour then prevailing rates. On 5/26/23, (SYSTEM STILL UNDER WARRANTY) I had them there for turn on service, they said there was a problem in Zone 4 at side of house. Did not say what it was. After umpteen phonecalls with Debra and cancelled appts. (cancelled by AID often at last minute due to "emergencies", or I had to call to find out were they even coming or in this case they came 3 hours late), they finally showed up, stayed awhile then said it was not what they thought it was they had to come back. when they finally came back after more hassles trying to schedule, (JULY 6th!) were there for two hours or so, then left not saying anything except that it was fixed. Next thing I knew, I was shocked to receive a bill in the mail for $552.76! It just said "squeeze in line", no idea what that means. Includes $250 for two 1: couplings! No one has been in my yard with any heavy equipment, that I can say for sure., only a regular size lawn mower. If I pay this, I will have paid $870 for the "expanded contract" and this repair which should be covered under the warranty. The nasty lady in the office with the british accent, Debra, started calling me from a "no caller ID number" on my cell phone and harrassing me repeatedly. She says the repair was not covered under warranty, that it was my fault and she will now be putting me into collection. I am furious and have come to seriously dislike Debra, who is always right and very arrogant and condescending. The company fails to communicate then wham, you receive a huge surprise bill and you are always wrong. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I see from reading other posts that I am far from alone in my experience with AID, there are numerous references to Debra and her behavior also price gouging. Be smart and stay away! read more

I have used them for about 13 years. I had to replace 5 valves on the sprinkler system and they charged me over $600 for this work. The parts costs $12 per valve in the store and I gave them 2 of them. They charged me $115 per valve plus they charged me 2 hours of labor at $130 per hour. I just feel they over charge there customers. The parts probably cost them $40. I am not saying they can't make money I am just saying they are ripping people off. Plus when I called the office the woman had an attitude. I am sorry I have to part ways with this company but I will take my business elsewhere. read more

This is meant for the company itself, since I think this review could he helpful in improving the company's business practices...I do care for our local businesses. We Automatic Irrigation Systems to install &service our system 15 years ago, and were very happy with the service then. Since then we moved, and forgotten about them. Recently, I needed to find their contact info, but I could not recall the name or find the phone of the company in my phone. Not willing to dig into my paperwork, I attempted to find them on the internet, so I searched for irrigatiin systems Nassau, hoping the search will perk my memory: I just needed to see their green logo- the only thing I remembered. But: 1) I did not notice them in the search. 2) i went into "images" tab, but there was no that familiar green logo there! WHY??? Just save it on your site as a picture with your logo photo and phone #! 3) when I eventually miraculously found their website, it turned out logo is now dark blue....but their bills and correspondence are still green... I know these notions may seem little and strange, but it is only if you do not see how Marketing, Advertising and Human Physiology work... We did get their man to turn on the system in one of our properties. He just marched back and forth over our carpets from the yard to the basement, despute the fact we have a side door that leads there directly from the outside. Why? He was pretty grumpy too. For a company that boasts they have been in business for 70 years, you would expect they would have figured out the concept of good customer service. Their reliability and level of customer service is terrible. Don't take my word for it, just read the other comments on this thread. They used to be great. If they install your lawn sprinkler system they will charge you an arm and a leg to winterize in the fall and reset in the spring. They used to send out email to customers in early march to schedule the spring reset (that you paid for 6 months in advance). Now they don't call or email to schedule your pre-paid service. The system should be set in early spring (March). Now you will have to remember to call and they will schedule your service in mid-May. This is ridiculous. I pay for a service, then I have to call and beg for them to perform the service? If you're lucky enough to speak to Debra (supervisor) she will say they don't contact you in March because of the weather. What a lame excuse (this is a lie. So they know what the weather will be in April 4 weeks in advance?) she's very snobby and talks to customers as if she's doing you a favor by doing her job. I won't be doing business with them again. There are plenty of landscaping/sprinkler vendors in the world. read more

They forget who is paying their bills and as a consequence their salaries. 'd like to say that I had to put a star in order to place this review , but i will NEVER use this company again and would NEVER RECOMMEND automatic irrigation to anyone for any reason! First I will start by saying they took total advantage of my wife who was home during the backflow maintenance done at my home. I asked for a simple backflow and to change 1 sprinkler head in the back yard .... The technician who was there did that and more as he then replaced 3 more sprinkler heads and repaired a leak in a pipe .. ALL done without any contact or consent from Me the homeowner. When I called to complain and state I was stopping payment on the check due to unauthorized repairs , I was cursed at by the supervisor on the phone , called a low life and they threatens to have the technician go back to my home and remove all the parts he installed! She. On top of this they so conveniently mentioned that I was also being charged a service fee $95 because I didn't have a contract !! Totally took advantage of us and Luckily I let it be because had the tech come back to my home we had the police at our home ready to arrest him for trespassing! This was not the first incident as Automatic Irrigation on a separate backflow Maintenance done at my home a few years back sent 2 techs who were drunk and smelling like they were drinking all day! The unprofessional communication I received from their supervisor was appalling just by itself .. for this I would HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND automatic irrigation to anyone and hope they don't take advantage of anyone else in the NY LI area. If I could leave negative stars I would. We have been using them for over 30 years, the company was/is owned by by neighbors son so we decided to use them. Parents are now gone and I feel no loyalty to them. First an appointment was made for EASTER SUNDAY!!! Had to wait for them between 9-1 and showed up a little after 12. We replaced our on demand boiler and all of a sudden they are saying we moved our sprinkler system and they have no idea how to do anything. When we closed the sprinkler the rain guage had fallen off and the guy was lazy and said they will reattach at the beginning of the season. They didn't even do that. I have been a long term customer but no more! I scheduled a system shut down and was informed being home wasn't necessary. The tech arrived and how no idea how to shut down a system they installed. They left a voice-mail message that I would have to reschedule and give them access inside my home. When I questioned the woman in service she was argumentative and hunk up on my call. I tried to reach out to resolve the issue and was told they wouldn't service my account. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. I will be following up with the BBB as well!! read more

Awful customer service. In 2017 I was charged 2200 dollars for a whole new install and was satisfied with the job they did. This spring I had to have them reconfigure my backyard to accommodate my new patio. That job cost nearly 1800 dollars which I thought was very high but still used since I was satisfied with the original job. After the install was finished one of my zones didn't work and I contacted them to come fix it. They showed up 2 and a half hours late and I was told I'd have to pay to get a new valve installed. I explained they were just here 3 months ago and I was charged a new install and shouldn't need to pay for a new valve. Their manager called me and told me they would not give me a new valve and I'd have to pay. After going back and forth I told her I'd pay but would never use them again. She then told her workers to leave and I'd have to reschedule even though they were already digging up the valve. My grass is destroyed. I will never use them again and would highly advise anyone else to AVOID THIS COMPANY. read more

Terrible experience with them for a number of reasons. 1) Unreliable workmanship - The irrigation system stopped working and I realized after half our landscaping started to die on us. It took them a while to finaly come and make the repairs 2) Customer service - Very poor customer service, you will be put on hold for 15-20 minutes every time you call. They don't call you back. The receptionist hung up on me twice. My wife had a bad experience with Debra as well. 3) Unorganized - They did our backflow testing and billed us for it, but never sent it to the water authority so our water was turned off. read more

The worst. After 10 plus years of service in port Washington they came today to replace my timer/ clock which had broke. Quoted me $280 in my driveway plus labor which having no experience with this said fine. Service man was Extremely nice and professional- not blaming him. Afterwards and curious to what markup was, found it brand new on amazon for $67. Called office to mention if this was correct and they said yes and that is their normal markup....that is awful. I acknowledged the need for mark up but 4x is criminal. Would not budge. Will never use again and strongly suggest anyone possible to stay away. I have used Automatic for 4 years now, in fact, aside from the lateness for our appointments, everything has been fine. (they are usually about 2 hours late, except for once). That is, there were no issues with our sprinkler system. They came opened, and closed it with inspections. Well guess what, this year, my sprinkler system had issues. So, I paid Automatic to have some valve replaced during inspection that was said to be faulty. No problem. The guy left. The sprinkler went on at night, and darn thing won't turn off, 3 heads were leaking VERY badly. (you would think they checked before they left). I called the next morning and was instructed to shut off the main (which i did) and was told someone will come back and see what happened. Yes you guessed it, they never showed up. That's alright, I thought, they were probably busy since I didn't schedule ahead. I called again to schedule ahead, 3 days later appointment. NO SHOW again. I called, the girl answered the phone was nice and said she will get to a supervisor to have someone out right away. NO SHOW. I had to call again, appointment is made 3 days later again (at this point, i have half dead lawn). The guy showed up 1.5 hours late. Tells me EVERYTHING is fine, the heads are not leaking, they are just old and require replacement. Let me say this, the heads ARE NOT fine and they were definitely leaking. He was yelling and extremely rude with me over the phone. I remained calm, took pricing and told him I do not appreciate his tone. Good bye Automatic, my worse experience ever. Poor customer service Had an appt scheduled for Mon 05/09/16 bet 1-5pm. I called service Dept at 430pm for an approximate ETA (estimated time of arrival) and was told worker was on his way. After waiting all day and being told worker was in route to my residence, worker was a no show. Called the co the following morning and complained and was not offered any explanation or consolation. Was told I would receive a call back and needless to say that didn't happen either. *Hint taken will take my business elsewhere!! read more

Terrible company, office people have an attitude and don't communicate, called for service on 7/1 was told they would be by after 1, they showed up at 6:30 and "had no time to do job" I called the office the next day and they rescheduled for 7/5 . On 7/5 they show up, open the valve to the broken zone and magically everything works, they close the valve at the front of the house and leave. After they're gone I go to the back yard and the sprinkler is still running. I call their office and the BS starts, they didn't do anything, they're not sending anyone back, I never paid them was mentioned 3 or 4 times (They never did anything but waste my time, and the real kicker, they never billed me) not at all a service oriented company.
