Poor customer service from the front line, called for an appt. was given 7/5/18 asked for time window was told they will have to call me back, they never called back. When I called on 7/5/18 for a time window the person who answered the phone was unprofessional and rude and repeatedly called me a liar stating that they give a time window between 8 and 4 and then said your appt is cancelled and hung up the phone. This employee is an embarrassment to a probably good company, customer service is key to a successful business hence AID should rethink and retrain their customer service employees. BUSINESS: Automatic Irrigation Design MOTTO: (pick one) "We'll take you for a hosing" "The customer is always wrong" "Don't call us...... we'll call you" [Yeah, sure you will] PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The in-ground irrigation system that waters my front lawn was not working well. I contacted the Automatic Irrigation Design Company. They originally installed the sprinkler system. It has worked well. Their service people have always been pleasant. For years, the company was as good as the system they installed. But now...read on.................................................. Last week, I paid Automatic $180 to repair the system. When the job was completed my wife put the service man on the phone. He told me everything was working, and I remember he said "you will be surprised when you turn the system on" HOW TRUE! Of the six sprinkler heads, one worked poorly at best. Another head was replaced with a new one. This, DID NOT WORK AT ALL. I called Automatic to ask when they could come to correct the situation. What happened next was unbelievable. This woman who answered, was the most OBNOXIOUS, ARROGANT and CONDESENDING individual I have ever come across. Instead of assuring me that the problem would be taken care of, she challenged every word I said. She had the nerve to place the blame and responsibility on me and discussed everything but the problem at hand, and then... hung up the phone! She called back and told me to be home Wednesday morning @ 8 AM. Then I was told that if the problem is something else, I will have to pay an additional amount of money. The fact was' before the service person left my home he told me the sprinkler system was in working order. This, was completely dismissed by this loud mouth, My bottom line is: if, and I repeat if, the service person returns and does resolve the problem; it will be the last time I deal with the Automatic Group. If not, we will meet in front of the judge in small claims court. I will consider myself lucky, if they don't try to charge me for my time and aggravation. DESIRED OUTCOME: Resolve the problem to my satisfaction, or return my payment in full. GOOD RIDDANCE! read more

Awful just awful. I have been with them for years. They were fine when the system was new and just needed servicing. As the system ages, Their repairs bring on more problems. Last year, they came to winterize. They forgot to turn off the water and my pipe burst at the first frost. After trying to blame me for the pipe busting, They "fixed" it and the water leaked from the pipe. They had to come back and fix that too. Another time, I requested that one of my sprinkler heads be moved because a bush that was planted grew and blocked it. I started wondering why my grass was dying, then I saw that barely any water was coming out of the sprinklers in the back yard. I got a $600 water bill. I had to shut my water off. This was August. I could not get a weekend appointment until Mid October so my grass looks like tumble weeds. They said they would put me on the list for a sooner appointment- never called. Fast forward to today, thought my service was in the morning it was in the afternoon. I have to go out so I cancelled. Called back 15 minutes later said I would cancel my other plans, they told me too late - they took someone from the list I have been sitting on since August. There is a woman in their customer service department who is rude and not helpful at all. When I asked to speak to someone else, she puts me on hold then comes back and tells me no one is available. She does this every single time. I don't care that I paid for service for the next year - it's not worth it. Looking for a new company to fix their mess and who values their customers. After my first review, I spoke to the office in the early fall of 2016 and they said they would send someone out to identify and fix the problem. The workers identified the leak but would not fix it until the Spring.. Fast foreword 7 months from the initial review...In April 2017, the same pipe that they fixed in the early spring 2016...busted again. I called and left Debbie, the manager, a message- never returned my call. If you are keeping track of my saga, my sprinkler system has not been functional since July 2016- it still has a leak and the pipe leading to the house is busted. My wall in the basement had to be replaced because of the water that leaked from that pipe last year. I had to dish out a lot of $ to replace the trees and shrubs that died due to no water last season. So I have an appt today, 6/10/17. They blame me for the busted pipe- not covered by my Warranty so Debbie the manager told her workers to charge me. Whatever. At this point between the wall and the trees and shrub replacement I will pay anything to resolve this and move on. But wait! Don't forget I still have a year old leak and low water pressure! They don't know why. Now this worker is telling me that I don't have a leak... it's the water pressure ( wouldn't the water pressure be low because there is a leak somewhere?) I am going around in circles... so they are only replacing heads. That leaves me still after almost a year, a leak somewhere and low water pressure still. If anyone knows of a reputable company in LI, NY that can figure out what is wrong and fix it please let me know. And I want to make it clear that the workers who come out are professional and try- the Service department that sucks. And the funny part, the worker said that Debbie would like a check today ... as if I haven't always provided one when services were rendered.. read more

Two words- PRICE GOUGING. Consumer beware- if your system needs repairs or changes you will pay for labor twice. You will pay for the "time" at an agreed upon rate and then you will be charged an additional $30 to "move a head", for example, rather than an additional $12 for the part. The owner will lie and tell you that is the practice in the industry- but I can tell you after calling his competitors, that is not true. After PUSHING BACK and being reimbursed by the owner on the above, I was informed 2 months later- WHEN I CALLED THEM TO HAVE THE SYSTEM CLOSED- that my address was no longer being serviced. Of course, my LIFETIME WARRANTY was only in effect if Automatic took care of the system- and no mention was made related to the disposition of that as they SILENTLY cancelled me as a customer. Certainly not a professional way to communicate a supposed broadly based company-wide change. Coincidence? HA! Ultimately, I was offered a contract for opening/closing of $270!! Again with the PRICE GOUGING! A competitor closed it for $50. Customer service on the phone-RUDE. PS- The guys who come out to the property are excellent. That is the only saving grace for this company. read more

There really isn't much more to say other than they are rude, not accommodating, inflexible, and have the poorest customer service I've experienced. I have used their service for the better part of 5 years to open and close my system. In the past year, I have had two separate customer satisfaction issues where the person scheduling/dispatching was awful to work with. I would advise no one use them (read their Google reviews to see what a new sprinkler sales experience is like) for any reason. read more

Had a system put in a few years ago. Great service with opening and closing my system as well as any maintenance issues that I've had. The servicemen are very friendly and extremely knowledgable with the sprinkler systems they install and service. Tried other service in the past but must say Automatic Irrigation is the best yet! Lately I have experienced all what the other customers have experience. My lawn sprinkler was installed by them. Every thing was good but lately there customer service and management skills are very unprofessional. From the manner in which they speak to you , you know they are not telling you the truth. Automatic Installed my system 4 yrs ago. -consistently have unwatered areas on my lawn. Every year when they come to open the system in the spring I ask them to make adjustments and they always blame it on my water pressure (which is normal). My driveway, sidewalk, and street get plenty of water! The sprinklers spray over grassy areas onto concrete and the street. I paid for a service contract this year ($275) and when I called in July to once again ask for adjustments, I left a message and no one got back to me. I called a few days later they told me someone would be over in 13 days- that would be 16 days after my initial unreturned call! Meanwhile my lawn was dying-When they sold me the system, the salesman told me that all of his workers speak English- he left out the 'barely' part. Trying to explain my issue to the serviceman was difficult. I'm not sure he understood what I was trying to say. Gonna take my business elsewhere and suggest you do the same. Replaced my old system which was 35 years old with one provided by Automatic Irrigation Design. Not sure what happened to the other 2 reviewers in 2015. My experience really exceeded my expectations. It started with the owner, Scott Silverman visiting our home by appointment and on time. First thing he did was hand me a professionally prepared custom proposal out lining their work and goals for my project. After which he sat down with me and my wife and explained the procedure. He told me the job would start in 2 weeks from that date, and it did, On the day of installation Carlos, his foreman and an employee of 19 years arrived at our home with a crew of 5 or 6 men. He explained to me the overall scope of what he planned for my property. I also had my landscape designer come over to meet him and discuss her needs for our shrub beds. He was patient and very accommodating. They completed the job in one day. They left with no evidence that a new system had even been installed. Very neat and clean. Carlos reviewed each zone with me manually and then instructed me on how to program the controller and operate the system. What about the price? Within $200.00 of the other 3 companies I had bid on the job. I am sure their follow up service will be just as good. BTW, they accept credit cards. read more

on Thurs. 5/14/15 the servicemen from the automatic irrigation Design came to fix a non functioning zone in my sprinkler system. After about twenty minutes, I was told a valve needed to be changed which will coast me $103 plus 85 service charge and what ever the labor cost would be based on the time it will take to fix it. So I called the office and I told them that I have been with the company for 9 years, would the be kind enough to forgo the service charge and let me know how much would the labor coast would be. The service charge was waved and the serviceman told me that it will take him half an hour to fix the problem and that will coast $60. So agreed to the work to be done. Then I was told that two of my rotary sprinkler heads were in a bad shape and they needed to be replaced and that if I did it today, I wouldn't need to be charged yet again for another service and labor charged in the future. I told him it's ok as long as he didn't charge me extra for labor and he said ok. After his work was done, the service man presented me with a $512.71 which included $229 labor charge. I told him "we agreed on $60 why are you overcharging me?" which at that time he told me "sorry my boss said I have to go according to my GPS and that says that I have been here for 1 hour and 11 mins. I called the manager and disputed the charge, he told me " I already gave you a discount now give me what you owe me and if you keep me on the phone for longer I would have to charge you more because you are stopping my men from going to their next job" I reluctantly paid the bill because I had to leave and take the kids to their afternoon activities. I asked how much is an hour of labor coast and he told me $130. When I left my house the men were still parked at my driveway eating their lunch. Later when I had the time to review the bill, I realized that if an hour of labor is $130 and the men were at my place for an hour and 11 minutes then there was a big miscalculation done and I was overcharged. I called the manager which later I realized is the owner ( Edward Gilbert) and told him about it. He said that in actuality according to his GPS his men were at my house an hour and fifty minutes which meant that he should have charged me more and that he did me a favor charging me only $229. I told him how can he charge me that amount when labor charge is $130 an hour and also his men were at my property after they finished the job, why I should be responsible for the time they had parked their car at my property after their job was done? At that point the manager Edward Gilbert said " I can't help you right now, let me think about it". I said what is there to think about I was overcharged, please refund the money. He told me he would call me and hung up. I has been a week now and I haven't heard from him yet. I have found a receipt from this company exactly two years ago that his serviceman had done the same exact job while my husband was home and they charged half an hour labor charge even though it is recorded on the receipt that they were at the property for an hour an a half. read more
