Working with Chris Trombley, who stepped in for an absent initial contact, we quickly sealed a good deal on a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While he would not haggle, the pricing of the car was already rated as a Great Deal on autotrader.com. A former Enterprise rental, it was in prime condition and still had room on the manufacturer's warranty. Key Pros: We were pleased to be able to test drive the car on our own, and even more pleased with Chris and AutoMax employees working with us to have it inspected by a local independent mechanic. As with any used car, there were some findings such as rotors needing turning due to sitting, calipers needing adjustment, tires needing rotating, and alignment. Chris and crew never hesitated to do the required work, and threw in new brake pads as well, all at no extra charge. Cons: While the car could have been a bit cleaner on pick-up (easily wiped off sap spots and road dirt, and food wrapper in center console), the tires were shined up nicely and the car really was clean. A little more gas in the tank would have been nice, but not expected. To the surprise of Chris and us, the car was missing a spare on delivery, but Chris and the dealership stepped up quickly and delivered it to us the next day, an hour away from the dealership. These cons are minor as you can see, and they actually turned into a positive thanks to Chris and the very pleasant and efficient gentleman Chris sent down with the spare. I'm sorry I did not get his name as well, he deserves applause and I hope someone from the dealership shares this with him as well. I will never go to this place again. Everything went smooth with the purchase, But 4 days after they said the car would be ready it wasn't. They lied 3 times saying the trailer hitch that we paid for was installed on the car and it wasn't. As we were leaving with the car, they refused to give us a document saying they were refunding our money for the trailer hitch, trying to pocket the cash we put up for it. So I proceed to ask if I can cancel the whole thing and leave and he says to my girlfriend and I, "we don't want your fucking money, fuck off" so that's when I flipped and walked outside. Bruno (the manager that told me to f*ck myself ) follows me outside and proceeds to get in my face screaming at Me to hit him. I was very pleased with the car I purchased, until I realized they added an extended warranty without me noticing on the contract, for future costumers please be aware on what the want you to sign because it's an extra 1750 on your final purchase price, this information was not explained to me at any time during the purchase, and when I went to ask them about it, the manager said it was not there job to explain about the warranty and for me to be more careful with contracts that I sign, luckily I was able to catch it on time and called them to cancel it. read more

Decided to stop at Auto Max after a day of unsuccessful car shopping. We were greeted by salesman Chris T. And everything after that was smooth as can be. He was definitely a match for our personality's - no nonsense. He showed us the SUV's that we were interested in and within a few hours we were signing papers. We got the vehicle we wanted, within our budget! This was prob the 7th vehicle our family had purchased and it was by far the easiest. Instead they ran a hard check with something like 7 creditors and I didn't end up buying from them. I would give this place zero stars if that were possible. I went to look at a car that was posted on Car Gurus. The salesman started off with a lie - saying that the car had just gotten there and the phone was "ringing off the hook' with calls from interested buyers. The real truth which I had discovered through my research was that the car had been there 125 days and the price had been lowered several times. Things went downhill from there... He said that in addition to the "no haggle" price of the car there was a $595.00 mandatory processing fee that they always charged on top of that. When pressed on what this charge allegedly was for the salesman gave vague answers about it covering required "paperwork." When I told him I intended to pay for the car in cash he told me the owner had a policy requiring people to take a loan for at least three months. Very shady... I would give zero stars if I could. I purchased my Mercedes ML350 last April from this outfit.... The price was fine, the car was fine, but the service is a joke. I have purchased many cars in my day, and the follow up customer service with Automax is embarrassing. The sales rep (who later asked me to come work for my company once he realized I owned an equipment financing firm, as he told me he HATED working there), had zero negotiating powers within the company, so there was the typical back-and-forth with his manager. I later negotiated with, and met the "general manager" Mike Rowe who sold me a bill of goods. The vehicle had a clean carfax, but later I had a couple different issues when the car broke down (only 40k miles on a 42k car) and the Mercedes dealership told me the car looked like it had been in an accident. Fishy. I wasn't worried, b/c Mike Rowe sold me the "ultimate warranty" and told me it would cover absolutely everything - and if I ever had an issue, to "call him personally (he gave me his cell #) and he would call the owner of the warranty outfit (who he claimed to have on speed dial in his phone- he showed me). Let's just say that's not what happened. Once I had the issue with the car, I had Mercedes call the warranty company and neither problem were covered (this was an $1,800 fix).... so obviously I was peeved. The Mercedes rep told me if I purchased their extended warranty both issues would have been covered- this was my fear when I purchased the policy. I called/texted Mike 10+ times without a return call. Additionally, I emailed him and finally after threatening a negative review (this), along with a negative review on the BBB (that's next) and letter to the attorney general (also next), he wrote back this: "STEVE, I AM NOT A WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR, NOR AM I A SERVICE WRITER. IM OPENING DEALERSHIPS, AND RUNNING SEVERAL STORES. YOU COULD HAVE GONE TO OUR FRAMINGHAM SERVICE DEPT, THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE ANSWERS FOR YOU AS WELL. IF YOU CAN FAX ME WHAT ISN'T BEING COVERED, (A COPY OF THE REPAIR ORDER LISTING THE ITEMS WITH LABOR) I WILL CALL AND FAX THIS TO MY ADMINISTRATOR, AND SEE WHY THESE ARE NOT COVERED. AS I RECALL, YOU HAVE CUSTOM EDGE, ULTIMATE, SO SEND THIS INFORMATION TO THEM" I informed him neither were covered. This was 6 weeks ago.... I cancelled my policy with Custom Edge and requested a refund. I still have not received the refund.....I called Custom Edge and they told me the refund was mailed to the dealership on Jan 19th.... It's now a month later and I still don't have my money. I just cannot believe I was sold a warranty for over $4,000 and promised the world, only to not deliver. Clearly from his email above, he feels he's extremely important, and too important to answer calls or help with issues. If I provided this customer service, I would be out of business. I currently have 23 sales reps working for me, and I am using this example as a way for them NOT TO ACT. Clearly, I am not pleased with Automax and I highly recommend steering clear of them when purchasing a vehicle. The slight discount you get isn't worth the headache. read more

Super rude and terrible customer service!!!!! We arrived at the dealership at 7:35pm and the salesman inside had locked the door and put up the hand sign for 7, while shaking his head "no." The website and the sign on the door clearly say 8pm. We just drove a long distance to get here and were ready to drop $30k on a specific car I've been searching for... We walked the lot and while I inspected the car I came for, the salesman ran from the office to his car and drove away to avoid us. We left the dealership- it was still 7:45pm. I recently purchased a 2016 GLE 350 Mercedes from Automax in Marlborough. My husband had called ahead to make an appointment to view the vehicle. It was my first time at a used car dealer and I was a little unsure of what type of experience I would have. Upon arriving, Chris immediately greeted my husband and I with a genuine smile and walked us over to the vehicle. He had a non-pushy, here-to-help friendly attitude, and I greatly appreciated that; it certainly put my nerves at ease. He understood my budget and needs of no money down, as well as adding a warranty into overall loan. Chris worked with business office who came back with a very fair trade and even upped it a little to get my payment to where it needed to be. We signed the paperwork that day and the following business day the vehicle had seen serviced, detailed and was ready for pick up. I felt that the detail could have been better upon arrival and his technician quickly came over to touch up a few spots that had been missed. Chris went out of his way to make sure we were happy and even texted me to make sure I received the new registration. So far, I've had the car one week and it is quite an enjoyable ride. I came to Automax because there was a specific car I wanted to see. However, I ended up with a different car. I feel the price was right. What really made me decide to buy there was that the Manager , Bob, took the time to try and get me approved with a good rate and more favorable terms. The sales guys were ok. It is clear that they are volume dealers and on a Saturday there is clearly not enough help. However, I would return to Automax and feel I got a fair deal. read more

TL;DR: Low prices, but crappy service and ripoff financing requirements. Come prepared with your own financing to get a lower rate from them, and don't expect them to fix anything that you find wrong with the car before you get it. Prices are low enough that haggling isn't really required, but they are deceptive in every other way. They claim prices published on their website require you to finance the car through them, and they'll stick you with a loan with ridiculously high rates if you let them. We purchased a 2015 Kia Soul from them roughly a week and a half ago. When we took the car for a test drive the oil light would flicker whenever the car was idling. We brought this up with the sales person (Chris), and he said they'd have it fixed by the time we came to pick the car up. We bought it on a Saturday, and while Chris said it would be ready by Monday we told him we wouldn't be able to pick it up until the next Saturday. He said no problem, and assured us that they'd resolve whatever was causing the oil light issue, give it an oil change, and get it registered and inspected. When we went to pick the car up the next weekend, the oil light was still doing the same thing, and there was no inspection sticker on the car, despite explicit assurances that both would be resolved. They had a WEEK to fix these things, and they did NOTHING. They told us to take it to their Framingham location, which is a 40 minute drive from our house, on a weekday in order to get an inspection (supposedly for free, but who knows). We just took the car to our local Kia dealership to get the oil light checked out, since the car is still under warranty, and found out that the oil had NOT been changed by AutoMax. The oil was was BLACK and looked like tar. It seems extremely unlikely that AutoMax even attempted to diagnose or resolve the flashing oil light issue. The air filters (for both the engine and passenger compartment) were filthy as heck and needed replacing as well. All in all, the only good thing about this buying experience was the price. If you DO choose to buy a car here, make sure to get pre-approved for a low rate auto loan before coming in -- we were able to talk them down on the financing they hooked us up with from an initial rate of 3.94% all the way to 2.44% just by having a competitive offer. Edit: They did send me a check to cover the cost of the maintenance after I called and complained about how I got charged by the Kia dealership for doing what they told me to, and how they didn't do what they said they would do. I had been at AutoMax two days in a row. I decided to purchase a Honda Odyssey that was listed on line for a price I could live with. After driving the car and deciding to purchase it they told me that the online price was not valid and the car was $2,500 more. It is illegal (I checked with the Attorney Generals office) to not honor the on-line price. They told me that it was the price if you financed the car but not if you paid for it in full. It was also rude as the dealer knew I wasn't financing and that it was a long drive from my home. It was my first time visiting Automax and I'm glad I decided to visit the Marlborough dealership. The customer service was top of the line Awesome! I met with Chris Trombley (automax salesperson), who made the whole process very easy. I saw the car I wanted on their website and scheduled an appointment to test drive. Upon arriving that day, I was greeted at the door. And given the opportunity to test drive the vehicle. Long story short , Chris walked me through the paperwork and gave me a carfax printout of the car. I thoroughly appreciated the customer service from start to finish because it didn't seem like a typical "pushy car salesman" experience, lol. Chris was very patient in answering questions pertaining to the vehicle, and got me a great financing deal after I decided I wanted to purchase the car. I was able to pick up my Avalon within 3 days with all my registration paperwork taken care of. Chris followed up to make sure my insurance was all set and just to check in with how the car was doing. We took our time test driving them and making our decision. Unlike most salespeople we have dealt with in the past, we had Dany's full attention the whole time. Answered every question we had. Never felt rushed or pushed into making a sale. We were never rushed, and we were there most of the day. Very happy with the truck. I would like to describe my very bad experience with Automax Marlborough. In February 2020 I went to Automax to look for a newer car, I found several, I was serviced by the seller Dayse, always very attentive helped me to find a car, I bought a Chevy Trax 2016, car with few miles, all brand new, with more 6 months or less, I had the first problem with the car, the a / c was in trouble, I tried to ask Automax for help but I was informed that Chevrolet would solve the problem due to the few miles the car had, I was unable to solve the problem in Chevrolet and I had to settle on my own, summary spent over $ 800.00. Now a few weeks ago my car had a strange noise in the engine, I promptly called Automax to try to solve the problem, took the car to the Automax service center in Marlborough and was serviced by Kelly, the car was overhauled and was found to be only one piece on which I would spend $ 160.00, I immediately authorized the repair, after that less than half an hour later the car started to show the same noises on the engine (the part was changed for nothing), I spoke to Kelly again, who told me that as the car was only a few miles away, it would be ideal to take it to Chevrolet, I made the appointment and took the car to chevrolet for the warranty to be triggered, today I received a call saying that in the case of my car I have no guarantee because the oil changes my car were not informed in the CARFAX system, that is to say that information was not passed on to me at any time, I will have to pay for this concert once more, Chevrolet warranty is an extended warranty that was sold to me at the time of car purchase, summary whenever buying a financed car, pay close attention, ask everything, and always keep your eyes wide open, because even the smallest information does difference, because if that had been said to me at any time of the purchase I would have first that I had not made the extended warranty (which is useless) second that I would not be going through this now, so be smart because the Pre sale service looks wonderful , now the Pos sale is horrible, I do not recommend anyone to buy and repair cars in this store. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE They actually forged my signature on finance paperwork with an interest rate 2 points higher than I was quoted. They had no explanation as to why my signature was forged. I have obtained a police report and will be filing a civil court action. I have also notified the finance company they have a forged loan agreement. Beware of exorbitant dealer fees($1200) and gap insurance($700) that I never agreed to--all pure profit. I came in on a Sunday and I was not greeted by anyone. I sat down and waited for approximately 15 minutes before finally getting up and asking someone for help. When I asked to look at a car, Paul seemed confused as to why I was there. He then told me that Sunday is when people buy cars, not look at cars. He seemed so flabbergasted about it that I almost left because he made me feel unwelcome. This feeling continued throughout the process. In addition, he'll let the car be seen by a mechanic, but only if it's within five miles and he brings it to the mechanic. He then laughed at me when I said I needed to think about the purchase before filling out a credit application (which I don't need but he forces you to use credit to buy the car in order to get The advertised price). When my father did come back he waiting an hour to be seen by the finance manager. When he finally saw the finance manager they gave him a unbelievably high interest rate on the loan. Laughable company. Came here to sell my car and met with the owner. They have no class at all, nicely asked what kind of car I had and when said "Mustang" their expression looked rather unimpressed. In front of other customers loudly said he wouldent be able to give me anymore than $500 for it without even seeing the car. Sales person was decent (Paul) and I like the car I purchased (2014 Camry). My issue, and "buyer beware" advice to customers shopping here is that when the deal's done and you're signing the paperwork, you should be prepared for a whopper of a doc fee ($599 plus $100 for the state)... and at that point, there's "no negotiating their doc fee," so your choice is to walk or let it ride. I chose to let it ride and bought the car anyway. But it's a pretty sleazy tactic in my opinion (which I voiced to them several times). Their response is, well we price our cars very well, so even with the doc fee it's a good deal anyway. Maybe, but tacking on a fee that's well over the industry average at the closing fits the mold of classic used car sales techniques. Anyway, go in with your eyes open. read more
