Love love LOVE this company! I have a few off-the-shelf pieces from them and they are the perfect mix of dainty-looking while being well-made and sturdy enough to hold up to every day wear. I particularly like their birthstone necklaces - they are great for layering as they don't tangle with other necklaces. I recently placed a custom order for a new wedding and engagement ring with them and was so happy with the process from start to finish. I was a little worried that having to do everything remotely (since I am on the opposite coast) was going to make things tricky but it could not have been easier! I sent them an overview of what I wanted and was able to pick out the exact diamond for my ring from their inventory. They also provided images of what different carat sizes look like on my ring size, which was VERY helpful and prevented me from accidentally going too big for my tastes. They kept me updated every step of the way, and I was able to see and make changes to a CAD drawing of my rings. Overall the turnaround time from my initial email request to the ring being ready to ship was ~6 weeks which was way faster than I was expecting, especially given that I requested modifications after seeing the CAD and that all communications were being done via email. The price was also incredibly reasonable given that I was requesting a custom set. In particular, I think their diamond prices were VERY fair, especially compared to prices I've seen from other, less high quality companies. The Custom team was super friendly and knowledgeable and was helpful every step of the way. And I absolutely love my rings! They are just what I imagined but somehow even better. My local jeweler failed to mention that onyx is not a suitable gemstone for daily wear (probably why it kept falling out and eventually chipped after only 6 months of wear). I had him remake the ring 3 times and I still wasn't happy with it. He used silicone to hold the stone in instead of a bezel like I wanted and I could see it gathering dirt from daily wear. I'd been admiring their website for a while, but when I saw the Square Carre Cut Diamond Band, I fell in love. This ring is so comfortable that I don't even take it off to sleep. Really wanted to love this store given everything they stand for. I decided to invest in a pair of quality studs I could wear all day everyday, which the website states their jewelry is capable of. After some research I decided to get a pair of opal earrings, per the blog post some discoloration can happen with opals. I'm not picky, that was fine with me. After a few months I thought one of my opals had fallen out, after closer inspection the opal went entirely transparent. I emailed AU and they basically said that the website states this could happen, and I can pay to mail it back, and spend 80$ to get a new opal, and pay to ship it back to myself. The blog post said some discoloration, not that the opal would look like glass. Additionally, the tone of the email was also very rude and dismissive. Additionally, before the opal issue, I ordered a custom bracelet. After only a few weeks the bracelet broke and AU told me I could pay to have it shipped both ways, and also pay for the repair. Given this happened in less than a month I was shocked they didn't offer to repair for free. For a company that promotes durable and wearable jewelry my two pieces were not able to hold up for more than a few months. They sent a CAD rendering to approve and made minor tweaks until I was happy. Even with an overload of custom orders (they paused taking them!) I directed most of my jewelry funds toward Automic Gold in the past year and was happy to patronize a diverse company in their success, as well as recommend them to friends looking for affordable, quality jewelry. Unfortunately, I can no longer give my business to them now or in the future. After a recent gift purchase went missing (marked delivered, never received, likely placed in the wrong box and taken by whomever "received" it), they redirected my inquiries to their insurer, who informed me that I would not be eligible to receive a replacement or a refund until I filed a police report. There is tremendous irony in an allegedly socially-minded company prioritizing the rhetoric of policing in our communities, whether you agree with policing or not. I understand the nuances of their agreement with their insurer likely dictate that this is mandatory for their own reimbursement, but I'm more than surprised and disappointed that they would accept this as a policy and not make direct amends themselves. Unfortunately, I am the only one left in the lurch now. The onus has been placed on me to report my mail carrier, a diligent worker, for alleged theft. I now carry the risk and the burden of putting a likely uninvolved party at harm for whatever stress and ramification that brings. I'd rather eat the money I lost than do that, and it looks like that's my only option since Automic has distanced themselves from the situation. I am sorry to have lost Automic Gold in my roster, as I was looking forward to using them for larger purchases. TLDR; We sent diamonds to be made into an engagement ring. The ring was made and shipped back, but missing a diamond. AG didn't acknowledge or take responsibility for the mistake ever. My girlfriend and I have been planning on purchasing an engagement ring for a while. She follows Automic Gold on Instagram and we were both super excited to support a business that aligned with our beliefs. After we saved up and felt ready we sent in her grandma's ring so they could reuse the diamonds in our new ring. The customization process was smooth. We received a mock up of the ring and really liked it. The mock up used all but one of the diamonds we sent and my girlfriend sent an email verifying that they had received all of them and ask if they were just not going to use the other one, which she was fine with. We were assured that they would use all of them. After the final mock up showed one less diamond than we sent we again asked if they were all there. We were assured they were. So trusting that assurance and that maybe one of the diamonds was smaller than we remembered. We received the engagement ring and were very excited. But, there we were missing a diamond. The one we thought we remembered wrong did not match the setting we sent it in. (Automic added smaller diamonds to make the ring look nice, these were the ones we mistook for ours). My girlfriend followed up and asked what had happened. We quickly received an email saying they tracked down our missing diamond and would mail it to us. This is the missing diamond they said would be in the ring. There was never an apology. There was no attempt to rectify the situation. Just mailing us a lose diamond that we were assured would be a part of our engagement ring. The experience was bad. The ring is quality and we still love it. But the experience was bad.
