I used to bring my car to them they were reliable good service now there's a new guy there idk if he's the manager or what but I've tried to bring my car there a few times in the past several months and have not been able to get service the first time I had an appointment scheduled and then it was pushed back a week when the day came it was pushed back another week so I ended up taking my car somewhere else's. I tried to bring my car there today and he was rude didn't even look at the car said I had to leave it and he would get to it when he can with no appointment time. Two different friends recommended M&M so I called Joe with my issue, the oil separator was leaking on my Fiat 500. This a review long overdue. I have a 2004 Ford Focus that I refuse to give up. Three years ago, I began having issues of it overheating. I took it to mechanics who claimed to have solved the problem, only for it to overheat again about a month or two later. I was referred to M&M last year, and they found the issue to my problem. On top of others, that should have been addressed by the previous mechanics. Hearing all the problems going on, I knew they were things that had to be done but also trusted that they were actual issues my car had. An honest mechanic! Not to mention, the amount I had to pay at the end was way more reasonable than I had imagined. Fast forward to now. Something else began going on with my car. I came in on a Friday early afternoon, clueless and without calling ahead. Joe gave me immediate attention as I explained my car was dead in the garage at the end of the street as I'm his neighbor and I needed help replacing the battery. He sent his guys over to walk to my garage, check out my car and bring it over to the shop. They were able to replace the battery and salvage the terminal cables which had a bit of acid damage on them from the battery discharging and idling. By mid afternoon, I got my car back. It was fast, the price was fair and they were professional and patient in helping me understand the repairs and potential extra expenses if they couldn't save the terminals. My uncle owns a shop in Ladera Heights but whenever I don't feel like driving, I'm coming here. I'm very happy to live next to an honest mechanic. read more

A good mechanic is hard to find. But a great mechanic who is honest, fair, and stands by his work is a unicorn. Well, Joe is a unicorn. We lived in the valley in 2014 and had a used car. He was less than a mile down the road in the reviews looked promising. From 2014 to 2018 Joe took care of our car and I can tell you he was always upfront about cost, what work that needed to be done, and what work may need to be done in the future. He never pressured us nor did we ever feel like he was trying to run up the bill. Just a solid straightforward guy. In 2018 we bought a new car under warranty and so we didn't need to go to Joe anymore. Well flash Forward the 2021. The car, an Audi, is off warranty and needed an oil change and a maintenance check. Even though we no longer live in the valley I wanted to bring my car back to Joe because of the positive experience I had for 4 years. And it's like we picked up right where we left off. He let me know that a lot of the service and maintenance work that should have been done on my car with Audi's ridiculously expensive service package most likely hadn't been done. That is for a separate review. But he walked me through what was wrong with my car, what needed to be done, and what could wait. I couldn't be more happy that Joe is my mechanic and he's one of the few businesses I know where I can blindly refer anyone to him. This review is long overdue. I have been taking my vehicles here for the past 3 years and they have always done honest work. I first started taking my 2003 bmw z4 and I knew right away I could trust them with my car. Unfortunately I had to junk my z4 so I got a c300. Recently my c300 had a coolant leak, I got a call towards the end of the day that the repairs were more labor inducing than they thought and they weren't sure if they could finish on time. I expressed that if I couldn't get it done that day I wouldn't be able to take it back until the following week. They didn't want me to take home the car in the condition it was due to fear of overheating so they worked overtime to complete it. Almost 7 p.m they stayed working on my vehicle. I highly recommend! My car decided to completely stop working on me, and Joe and his team eventually found out what was wrong with it. Joe is very personable and receives a thorough explanation of what led to the problem. I strongly appreciate that they took the time to do diagnostics before jumping to conclusions like I had assumed I needed a new battery. Boy, am I glad that wasn't the case! Sound the alarm this is one of the good ones! He passed the no charge test :-) I was told by previous mechanics that my rear differential needed to have an eye kept on it. It was due for a scheduled maintenance on it anyways- and was about to drive cross country- but after I left my jeep with him he told me that the rear differential fluids were clean and full and so there was nothing to be done and he only charged me about 1/4 of what most people charge for a diagnosis :-). The guy comes off a little bit gruff but don't let that mislead you. He's earnest and thorough. Be assertive about exactly what you need and trust that this guy will deliver :-) So relieving when you finally find someone that you don't have to worry about being ripped off by so this is the one :-) read more

Our car battery died on us one day and triple A recommended we try a mechanic nearby. Since we couldn't seem to get a hold of him, I came across this place being in my area. Joe took our call and had us come in soon after. Whenever you go and get your car repaired, you get nervous that the person in charge may want to upswell you on unnecessary things and take advantage of you. This wasn't the case. I can't tell you how nice it is to feel like you can trust someone in this business, when the dealers price gauge and give recommendations for things you don't even need. Over 10 years of coming to Automotive M & M and we're still loyal customers! We first stumbled upon this place when we lived in an apartment only 1 block away. Five years later, we moved a few miles away and we refuse to go anywhere else for the maintenance of our cars. Joe is the man that runs the show. He's friendly, knowledgeable, straight-forward and forthcoming. We've had just about every routine maintenance done on the three cars we've owned and we've never had any complaints. Been to M&M in the past and there was good service, albeit a little pricier than the average-- Joe would be the first to tell you that he charges a little more but it reflects in his service. I dropped off my car on a Monday afternoon, explained in detail the sounds it was making, explained how to drive it to hear those sounds, explained my guess of what was wrong, something with wheel bearing maybe-- left my car and expected M&M would take care of me. Tuesday was that big rain we just had, didn't hear anything. Wednesday afternoon rolls around and, I don't want to bug him but I figure, 'let's check in.' He answers and says "hey, I gonna be honest with you man, we didn't drive it Monday and then that big rain came yesterday so we didn't have a chance to check it out yet, but I'll get on it." -- Great, I get it, I left it there at the beginning of the week so that there would be time to fix it. All good. Thursday morning comes around, nothing. Thursday afternoon, nothing. I finally call at 4pm and, unbelievably, Joe goes, "Yeah man, don't know what to tell you, I drove it today but I didn't hear what you're talking about so I don't know what to do." "Uh, okay", I say, "well, what should we do now? Do you want to drive it again tomorrow or..." And Joe, at the time of day when, if I picked up my car from his shop I'd sitting in 50 minutes of rush hour home goes, " yeah, actually I need you to come get it because I've been having trouble making space for it in the shop. If you can't, that's fine but I just want to let you know that I'll have to keep it on the street tonight and I'm not responsible for any vandalism that might occur."--which he then repeated three times. I just... I don't understand why he didn't call me earlier in the day, I don't understand why my car was in his shop for four days and he never once picked up the phone to call me instead of the other way around. My understanding is that he had a lot of high end cars come in that week, I get it, we all get busy, but the fact that his solution was "hey come pick this up in rush hour or I'm leaving it on the street, sorry I couldn't help you, maybe bring it back at a later date and you can drive it and show me" (which should have been the solution on day 1, or 2, or 3, or Thursday at rush hour) is too much. I was pissed, I'm still pissed, I'm never going back. BUT if you have a really expensive car he'll probably clear his garage for you so... that's a plus haha. read more

Let me start by saying I have dealt with multiple mechanics upon moving to LA. I've tried the Subaru dealer. I've tried a small mechanic. Both were horrible, pain staking instances. So when my car broke down last week you could imagine how broken I was inside. I head to Yelp. Check out some mechanics here, some there. And came upon this one, Automotive M&M. Not only did they sympathize with me (something that we all need every now and then) they fixed the problem head on and at such a great price! The check engine light was on in my 24-year-old vehicle with 155,000 miles. I brought it to Automotive M&M, and Joe diagnosed it as a faulty catalytic converter. He gave me two options: a new catalytic converter or a less expensive aftermarket one. I chose the less expensive option. Two days later, the work was done at exactly the quoted price. Joe went out of his way to ensure that the car passed its smog check (which was crucial since I needed a smog check to renew my registration). Took my 2011 Hyundai in to fix the power windows. They were friendly on the phone and when in person. They had good communication about what they thought the repair would cost and how long it would take. The car is fixed up perfectly and I'm very satisfied. And because of Covid they always wore masks and even wiped down any part of the inside of the car that they touched/handles with disinfectant wipes before they gave the car back.
