First experience using Autowerkes and couldn't be more satisfied. Within 48 hours they diagnosed the issue, got the needed materials and finalized the repair. Thank God I found this place! I was taking my car to BMW and literally paying double for every service. This place is a little bit slower than the service you would get at BMW but Bruce is very knowledgeable and he gives a crap so you will be dealing with the real deal BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche guy when you show up or call. I had about $1000 worth of work done that BMW quoted me almost $2000 on. They even wash your car and shine your tires when you pick it up which is very impressive. I'll be back for sure. read more

Hate to break their 5* cycle but an honest review is due. I came here based on the high 5 star recommendations and they even came recommended by PCA members but here is my experience. The markup on their parts is insane. They charged me $30 per spark plug that's $6 on pelican parts. All the parts besides liquids were extremely marked up. I understand their parts dealer may charge more and they need to make some on top but that just seemed outrageous. I called multiple other shops and was quoted between $16-23 per spark plug. Johnny the parts/sales guy is pretty dry. He seems over it or maybe it was just a bad week but there was a sincere lack of enthusiasm for the service he provides the public. My car was returned to me significantly overfilled on oil, which I paid for those extra quarts. That and there were some fastener screws missing completely on plastic molding parts in the wheel well which ended up coming off completely and causing me to stop on the highway after hearing a strange sound. Sure enough the wheel well mold was stuck and grinding against my tire. I went to get a second opinion and paid again for a PPI who found things that seemed to be missed by autowerkes. An IMS leak which was extremely noticeable after they overfilled my oil. I believe the overfill caused some higher pressures and made any little leak extremely noticeable so on a positive note I suppose that was helpful in some way. Bruce is a great guy though. He really seems to care about business and knows customer service and word of mouth drives that business which is why it's so hard for me to write this review in general. Bruce followed up with me and I let him know some of the issues. He asked me to swing by to take some oil out but didn't take enough out it was still over filled according to most other mechanics and online. They put me above the full line then drained me to the full line which after running the engine a bit was back up above the full line. Now I'm about 75% oil level which is what everyone besides autowerkes has recommended. I'm not a mechanic and my knowledge is limited but I'm going to air on the side of caution give the known leaks and say 75% oil level is probably a healthier setting than maxed out. Unfortunately I won't be coming back based on the lack of trust and having to take my time to double check their work. That's not what I paid $3,800 dollars for. Besides that having to take now multiple hours out of my day to resolve the issues with secondary and tertiary follow ups. To be honest I think I just had a bad experience and certain expectations. I believe these guys provide a quality service and do right by their customers so if you're in the area don't let me review sway you. I'd still give them a shot and get your own results. But as for me, between the lack of enthusiasm and lack of attention to details I can't say they are a perfect fit for me. read more

Needed my spark plugs changed after miles of abuse.. Got me in with an extremely low price. Everyone here is professional and hard working! And to top it off, they dropped me off back at my apartment to wait and when it was all done, I was picked up! Extremely high value here, I won't take my car anywhere else for maintenance. Oh and when you do come back to pick up your car, it is also nice and clean as well! Super awesome! PS. I am usually very hesitant when it comes to getting my car washed as I have an open vent in my hood that leads straight to my intake filter as if this gets wet, theres a chance of hydro-locking the engine. My car had an issue with the convertible top after they had done quite a bit of work on it in the recent past. They quoted a small amount to cover the replacement of a hook that broke as a result. After the hook was replaced, the top required an adjustment to avoid the same issue with the hook from occurring again. After quite a bit of labor, they determined another part was needed and it was installed. I didn't know what to expect for the additional labor, but these guys honored their original estimate (plus the additional part) with no additional labor charges. This was a pleasant surprise, but definitely the right thing to do as a wide view of all the past work and costs. These guys have integrity and they definitely know what they are doing. This is the only place to take your Porsche or BMW (especially older models). Mine is a 2003 911 Carrera convertible with 49k miles. Great job Autowerks!!! read more

I've owned Mercedes and Porsche cars for over 20 years, and have never had them serviced anywhere but at authorized dealers. The actual work has always been very good, but between my recent experiences at certain Porsche dealers and the scary reviews I've seen from others, I got tired of being taken for granted at $250+ per hour. So, when the spoiler on my 996 started acting up, I emailed Bruce. He noted that an inspection would certainly be needed, but outlined the possibilities and the potential cost (they said this is the first time they'd seen this). When I arrived (and saw his shop and drive filled with Porsches), it took him about 10 minutes to diagnose the problem, and, rather than the $1200 cost it could have been, he found a $125 replacement part for the overall assembly. He ordered the part on his own nickel, and a week later installed it. And it's working perfectly. So I wondered why I waited so long to try an independent. Not any more. read more

I would like to thank Bruce, Phill, Johnny, and their Team at Autowerkes. I own a 1982 BMW 320i which I restored. I like to work on my own car if possible by performing minor repairs and maintenance. Sometimes I may need advice because the BMW Workshop Manual or Chilton Manual can be vague on certain topics. What I really like about these three gentlemen, is that they know about my model of BMW very well, and I can call them and ask their knowledge of a certain repair or adjustment such as setting the correct ignition timing or other technical issue (really anything), and they are always willing, friendly and helpful to me by providing their advice and expertise. There are also times when a repair needs a professional and it's something I cannot fix myself, or out of my comfort zone and I will not trust anyone else with my classic BMW. This just occurred with my sunroof where it came off nice and easy for me, but getting it back together was difficult. Initially I called and asked for advice because again the manual or YouTube videos were not much help, and Bruce and Phill provided it, but in the end the job proved too much. I needed their help and took the car into them. Sure, it's not a Porsche and they have some really nice expensive cars going in for service, yet they always make me feel that my car is just as expensive to them. I trust the guys at Autowerkes and I'm very thankful that they are there for me when I need them. You will be too. I grew up in Huntington Beach and Autowerkes has been in business at the same location since I was a kid in the 80's, and they're still going strong. The reason? Maintenance and inspection through these guys is better than dealerships. After my first visit, I would never consider taking my Porsche anywhere else. Also I would have probably dumped this 911 and gone back to Audi or Mercedes. I had not been inside an independent shop since 2004. Always factory service plans, always under factory warranty. I have been driving new sports cars until I bought a used 911 from CarMax (Don't ever do that to yourself. Their Porsche 911s were all trashed, including mine (had to return the first one after 3 days). I am extremely OCD about my cars. The car needed a 40K service. Dealer service was about $2,000. They are involved with PCA (Porsche Club of America), so called up Bruce. 1-Making an appointment was extremely easy. 2-They gave me a ride to and from the car rental place which is very close. 3-Perfect communication about the car. 4-Car was ready exactly when promised. 5-They suggested that I should replace the tires because of uneven ware (which I did the same day and was the only thing they suggested I do). And what a difference is made. 6-They had done a full inspection of the car. They went over every detail and explained everything to me. 7-The cost was less than 1/2 of the dealer price and they used OEM factory parts. Here is the beautiful part: The next day I noticed a coolant leak from. I called them, they asked me to drive there which I did. While I was waiting, they checked the car. Turned out the old coolant cap had gone bad. Within minutes they had a new cap brought in for me, replaced it and they would not even let me pay for it. Called me the next day to check-up on the car. I have been taking my 2007 CPO Mercedes S550 to Autowerkes for the past 3 years. I like going there because they are excellent at communicating what is happening with my car and they are trustworthy. This past week I needed a new HID headlamp, which is a bit pricy and not an easy DIY task. They also diagnosed my Check Engine light and replaced my defective Fuel Purge Valve, which has been intermittent over the last 9 months. They drive me to work, finish my car on time, and wash my car, which is also nice, however I pay for their expertise and not a nice lobby with a cappuccino machine. read more

I am disappointed with Autowerkes. I brought my 911 in with a check engine light, abs failure light, and psm failure light. I was told it needed an air mass sensor. I was quoted $600 for the part and $220 to install it. I found the air mass sensor online for $214! Fortunately, Autowerkes said they would install the sensor if I had it shipped to them. When I picked up the car, I was charged an additional $36 for gasoline! I left the car with almost a 1/2 tank and received it back with the low fuel light on! They drove the car almost 200 miles! What's worse is that the lights came back on within 5 miles of the shop. I called twice and requested a call back from Bruce, the owner. I never got a call back. Autowerkes didn't stand by their repair. Plus, do these guys really think they should be entitled to a 350% markup on parts? read more

Rick and his crew just fixed up our 2001 mercedes c-240. Car had stalled on the freeway, and as I am new to the area I wasn't sure where to take it. I took it to a place nearby who recommended Autowerkes, and I am glad they did. They diagnosed a crank sensor issue, took care of it right away, and let us keep it there over night when we couldn't pick it up. That they did a good job and were much less expensive than the dealership is only half the story. The guys there take time to explain the problem, don't treat you like an idiot, and are transparent about the costs. They know cars, and they are honest. What else do you want? They all got back to me promptly when I called, and they had the car ready right when I needed it done. I like that they include picking you up and/or bringing the car to you as part of the service. Their prices seemed a little on the high side. They charge $110 an hour which is about the going rate, but the parts seemed higher. I have trusted Autowerkes for a few years now, first with my 996 and more recently with my 991. These guys are absolutely top notch in all aspects, including extreme attention to details, passion for Porsche, state of the art diagnostic instruments, total honesty, reasonable rates and most importantly .... total willingness to give technical advice even in cases when it may not add anything to their bottom line. Their troubleshooting skills are remarkable. My 996 experienced some intermittent electrical problems, Bruce and his team got to the bottom of it and solved the problem permanently. My 991 started swerving at high speeds after I made the mistake of trusting a tire shop with the selection of a high treadwear tire on my rear wheels. When I described the symptoms to Bruce, even though I did not purchase the tires through Autowerkes, he took the time to explain the characteristics of some tires and how to best select high treadwear tires for my 991. I had an issue with the O2 / OBD2 sensor not being ready on my BMW for a smog check. I tried driving long distances, driving uphill, etc. and the O2 sensor still wasn't ready. I then decided to call Autowerkes to help troubleshoot this issue. Autowerkes performed a drive cycle (which is difficult to perform in the city) for $35 and the O2 sensor was ready. As a result, I was finally able to pass the smog check. The gentlemen at Autowerkes also noticed I had thin wall on my rear run flat tire which I replaced immediately. I have finally found a great Mom and Pop BMW mechanic shop which is very knowledgeable and reasonably priced compared to the dealerships. Job well done!!!! Highly recommended!!! read more

Check engine light came on yesterday, and I needed an oil change on my Carrera 991.2. I typically bring it to the dealer, but they were booked solid for the next three weeks. This is my daily driver so I needed it looked at right away. I found Autowerkes on yelp and gave them a call. Bruce answered right away. I explained the situation, and he accommodated me the following morning. When I arrived Bruce was there to welcome me and take the car in. As we got to doing the paperwork Bruce recognized my street, and he said he has known my neighbor for years and years. After dropping off the car I reached out to my neighbor, and he has been taking his 911's to Bruce for a long time. He spoke very highly of Bruce and said he was the right guy to do the service and any modifications if I decided to go that route. The team serviced the car and was able to fix the check engine light. The car was ready later that day. When I picked it up, Bruce and I got to talking, and now I'm bringing it back for some exhaust modifications. He is a wealth of knowledge, and I really trust him, not only from my experience today, but from the high praises my neighbor sang as well.
