I took my vehicle to a shop with great reviews. They gave me what seemed like a reasonable initial impression, but when the actual quote came back it was around $2,400, and then they started pushing unnecessary add-ons. The part itself wasn't expensive, but they insisted the labor was extensive and pressured me into getting it repaired immediately. not trusting my instincts but also needing my car back quickly, I went ahead with the repair. About a month later, I found out the issue was actually related to a recall. That meant I could have had the entire repair done at the dealership for free. What makes it worse is that they clearly knew something was up they even told me they had to contact the dealer for information. Because of that, I ended up paying a couple THOUSAND dollars I didn't need to spend. In hindsight, they were aware it was likely a recall and didn't disclose it properly. Bought 4 new tires, but they lost two of my center caps. My wheels are original from 2001 and are very rare. They lost one on the front of the car and one on the back, opposite sides lol. The tires are great(very expensive) but installed poorly. Pricing is high as a kite. Would not recommend for anything. Looks like a drunk guy put my tires on. read more

this review is really hard to write down but it's been on my heart for a long time and I really feel like I need to share this. Schmitty's Garage did a complete air conditioner on my wife's car it being over $1000 but I'm not concerned about the Price it got done. A year later something goes out and it starts to blow hot air . I personally called Shane and asked him about my air-conditioning replacement and would it be under warranty instead of answering the question he got very defensive and asked me if I got it diagnosed somewhere which was a very interesting question I said no it's not blowing cold air you guys replaced it. My only question was to him is is it under warranty and he was fighting really hard to say that it was, even though it really is under warranty he did not want to say those words to me. I took my car somewhere else and they had told me that something that was recently installed was clearly brand new and those parts failed. I think it's really sad that in my heart if I was to bring my car back to Smitty's and have them look at it they would fight me on fixing the problem and they would probably most likely say it was something that we they did not replace, up charging me for something else. I felt more comfortable spending $400 to get that particular part fixed on the air conditioner rather then having an argument telling me it's something else. I've been bringing my cars to Schmitty's for multiple years, I have a shmydys credit card that I still owe $6500 on to prove it and that comes to an end today. I always go by my Gut instinct and something told me don't bring your car back there it's not gonna get fixed the right way. Also I truly believe that a owner should not be working the front desk because customer service 100% changed when that was happening if you work the front desk you have to be good at customer service and this is clearly not happening there's a lot of grumpiness going on at that shop a lot of inconsistencies. I have nothing personally against you Shane but the atmosphere there is not a very happy . people can make their own decisions about bringing their cars anywhere they want I'm just choosing not to bring mine there no more. read more

Had a battery replaced. My car was towed in because it wouldn't start after replacing starter at another shop. 1st thing Schmidty's did was a stress test. It showed the existing battery was too weak for the new starter. A very honest experience for me. You need to make appointments for Schmidty's. They document your issue very carefully so that they can be prepared to fix the issue. It's prudent to have someone pick you up during the service. The oil change/filter includes tire rotation! After they finished a soft-spoken person told me what they found wrong with my 22 year old Mini Cooper and gave me an estimate for the repair. Conclusion: the mecanic I had for 15 years (Sam's Auto Tech in HB) was extremely honest. After he closed (bcs stroke) I was hoping to find another repair shop with that same honesty. Schmidty's fits that need. Very organized, honest, thourough, professional, goes the distance to please you, comfortable waiting room w/ coffee, drinks, etc., and wi-fi. They also have FULL service. Tire monitor system was giving me issues. Shane was super busy but when I explained I had 2 long drives over the next 3 days he made a point to fit me in. Making an appointment ahead of time definitely makes it easier and something I suggest. My fiancé called on a Thursday afternoon and let them know we were pretty sure my brake pads needed to be replaced and Shane told him to bring it over. Had my car towed there, explained the situation and Henry knew exactly what I was talking about. He called me Friday morning and gave a detailed explanation of everything going on (my brakes did go metal to metal) and let me know my tires would need to be replaced soon. I appreciated how detailed he was and how he didn't push me replacing the tires through them. That afternoon I called for an update and my car was done! They even rotated my tires for me! For a brake job on a 2017 Honda Civic, this was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend. I have invested literally thousands of dollars into this company. ! I have a long time and wonderful relationship with Dan. He has even made an offer to help my wife with groceries if she needed it.. I knew this was a stretch, but I certainly appreciated the offer. Recently, I took my car to another garage for a Smog certificate. The car passed, but soon. Would not start.. I had the car towed to this garage and noticed a real difference in the way I was treated after all these years. I learned that Dan no longer work there and they put me on the phone over to Shane. Pay attention folks! Schmidty's is THE PLACE if you need an honest and thorough assessment of your vehicle. The local dealer told us we needed a TRANSMISSION. We took it to Schmidtys for a second opinion. He ordered us a transmission immediately based on what the dealer recommended. Once at Schmidtys they found the #1 cylinder misfiring, sending the wrong signals to the transmission causing it to act up. He fixed the #1 cylinder, the car performed like a top and he sent the transmission back. If we had taken the dealers recommendation they would have put a $6,000 transmission in the car AND the problem would not have been solved. I took a truck here to get pre-inspected, and they missed several basic things. They somehow missed the right headlight was out, faulty radiator hose, extremely rusted out brake line (critical safety issue), faulty starter draining battery, power steering rack was in need of maintenance, and oil pan needed replacement. Of the couple of things they did find notably the torn ball joints, and the serpentine belt needing replacement. For the ball joints, control arms, & serpentine belt they quoted 2200$. I was able to go to a mechanic nearby, and was quoted 720 to replace ball joints, arms, and serpentine belt, and they did a great job. Do not go to Schmidty's for a pre-inspection or repair job unless you want to be taken for a ride. read more

I was thankful when I found this place and was pleased about my inital contact with them. This all changed when I picked up my car after nearly $3400 of work at this shop. I majority of that cost was replacing a clutch, flywheel and assorted related parts. After driving the car for a day I noticed a server clutch chatter (shacking) when meeting the friction point of the clutch. Now keep in mind I have had this car for over 20 years and have done a clutch job before without this issues. I called and made the shop aware of the issue and told them it seemed to be more pronounced when cold and arranged to leave my car over night. I received a call from the shop late the next morning and was told the felt the issue. They also suggested their top tech should drive the car as well. A week or so later I took the car back put the top tech in the car to demonstrate the problem he felt it immediately. Said the clutch need breaking in because of the Chinese parts they use to today are not good. Keep in mind I paid premium $ for the best parts they could find. Having a lot of mechanical experience knowing cars and motorcycles I have never once heard anyone suggest breaking in a new clutch. I decided to play along with his suggestion drove the car another nearly 700 miles around town before returning once again to get the problem resolved. This time I was not offered a loaner and was without a car for nearly another day while the shop manager test drove the car. I mid afternoon got a call from the manager stating he drove the car for 11 miles and could find anything wrong with it and to come pick it up. When I got there they gave me a work order that basically said they we not going to do anything to solve the clutch problem. Keep in mind all the clutch parts carry a 12 month 12000 mile warranty according to their work order. On top of that they gave me a 3 year 36000 warranty fro another warranty company that also covers the clutch. So the moral of my story is a warranty is only as good as the company offering it. read more

Edit: 5/8/24 to respond to Shane the owner: I didn't want relive every detail that I experienced from your rude staff, but since you have told your side of the story with lies, because you never cared to get my side of the story that day, I will go ahead and elaborate. Even when I was on the phone with you, there was no apology and all you wanted to do was get off the phone as quickly as you could. Your staff called me that morning, Brett is the one that called me. I was at work and had to step out of the office to take the call. Yes, I was having phone issues but I wasn't upset. I went back in and with permission from my boss was able to call back on a landline with much more success. The person that answered the phone, I believe his name was Jerry was super rude from the get go. He said that the person I spoke to wasn't available. No one told me that it would be 10 mins from when that person could call me back. They simply told me that he wasn't available and if he could call me back, I said no because I was at work and I couldn't keep stepping out for a phone call. And just wanted to find out what was going on with my car. I never once demanded the meeting to be stopped. How could I when I didn't even know there was a meeting going on? Why couldn't the person that picked up the phone give me information about my car? I went in for a simple fix. When I told him he was being rude and that I made a mistake bringing my car here he got even more defensive and more rude, he told me " that was a big problem". Even put me on hold without saying anything. He came back on the line like nothing ever happened and asked if we could start the conversation over. Thats when I asked for a manger. A lady picked up and was rude too and told me that I could come pick up my car if I wasn't happy. When I was able to hear Brett on the phone earlier, before he even mentioned what the fix was for my tire, he told me my tire wasn't fixable and that all my tires were very bad. Funny, because my tires were fine, and I was able to get my flat tire fixed at another place. He asked what did I want to do about the flat, I said to put the spare on. Not sure why he even asked that, seemed pretty obvious to me. Except that he was clearly trying to sell me tires. Asking me where I get my tires and that they price match. I wasn't interested in that, I just wanted to know how much it was to fix the issue that I came in for. Finally the lady that picked up was all of a sudden able to read the invoice that was on her desk and tell me what the cost was for the fix. Why couldn't she just tell me that from the beginning and not act like there was only one person in the whole shop that could tell me. I never said I didn't consent to having the work done. I did consent, but after a few mins I called back and talked to Shane the owner, again who didn't even care to hear from me what happened, or offer an apology. Only told me that "if I knew what was going on that morning I would understand". Understand what? Why it's ok to talk to your customers the they way they did? I told him I have worked for several years in customer service as a manager and I never would have spoke to anyone the way I was treated that morning. I let him know that I didn't want them working on my car and he said ok, they would get it down from the lift and he would call me to let me know when it was ready to pick up. What he should have done at that point was verify if the work had even been started before he told me it was ok for them to not do the work. I never got a call from the store that my car was ready, instead received a text. Thanks for calling me a liar. You have made this unfortunate experience even worse. This was a simple fix and I took it to your shop because it was closer than my trusted mechanic. Clearly that was a HUGE mistake. I went here in recommendation from my mom. She had been a few years ago and was happy with her service. I'm not sure what was going on when I took my car in but the service was awful. I dropped my car off the day before because they weren't able to get to my car that day. I was fine with this. The next morning I spoke with the rudest employees, it seemed they were having a rough morning and decided to take it out on their customers. I had finally talked to the owner and he told me that if I had known what was going on there that morning I would have understood why I received such rudeness from two employees. I told him it doesn't matter what is going on, that was no way to treat customers. I told him to not work on my car and that I would take it somewhere else. He said ok. I then got a text 20 mins later saying they had already worked on my car and how much I owed. Go at your own risk! read more
