Came in for an oil change, quote matched what I was quoted over the phone and the service also included an inspection. The service manager, Fred, is a pleasure to work with. When I received the call to pick-up I was also provided info from what was found during the inspection. Autowerks offered their services, but didn't push the sale. I appreciate that they gave me space to compare and mull it over. I'll be back for the secondary service soon. It wasn't scheduled due to my schedule, but they have checked in and have been low pressure. Seems like they honestly enjoy the cars and just want to see them running their best. I highly recommend this location. It's easy to find, ample parking and there are some gorgeous European cars in their bay at any given time. Recently I went here to get an assessment done of a possible fuel leak. The folks at Autowerks investigated it and pinpointed the problem (a damaged fuel hose leaking fuel into the engine bay). Instead of quoting me for the repair and parts, Autowerks did legwork to research a Mercedes extended warranty. They called me and suggested I go to the Mercedes dealer where they can fix my car for free under warranty. I am still shocked at how much integrity this business has. They put my interests as a customer first over their own ability to earn fees from me. Had they not informed me about the warranty, I would have never known my options. I have a nice car which, after you may read this, you will realize I probably do not deserve. One day my car gave me a low oil warning. I know nothing about cars but my friend does. Or so he claimed. I went to a local store and bought replacement oil and my buddy was supposed to help me replace it. Pretty self-explanatory. Anyways, he decided that the oil belonged where the coolant went. Chaos ensued. I popped the hood and the oil came gushing out of the cooling system. It was then that I realized we were in a real bad situation. Most every place I called would not service my car and flush the cooling system out. However, I gave Autowerks European a call and they were very happy to help me. 1. They quoted me something reasonable and realistic in comparison to everywhere else that was 2x the price 2. They let me have my car towed to them on very little notice and fixed it in a few hours The fixed the issue and also gave me a heads up to have it flushed again after 1,000 miles. This morning, a few months later, I recevied a follow-up text asking how everything was. I do not even live in the area anymore, and they knew this, so this served as a very nice reminder to get the follow-up work done somewhere When you are like me and know nothing about cars, it is probably very easy to be ripped-off. Prices seem competitive but comes with a cost. I had taken my BMW for repair since they gave a price slightly better than others. They replaced water pump and bunch of other things and charged about $1500. within 9 months the same parts failed and I had to replace the same parts again at another mechanic. Apparently, they use low quality parts and their service is sub-par compared to other European workshops in the area. read more

They ordered the parts all the way from Italy, and when I returned from winter break, the car was like brand new again. Paul and Ron were great! I typically take my car to the Porsche dealer- call me a sucker but I get hyper paranoid that if the dealer didn't fix it, imma have problems later with no recourse. Soooooo, needless to say, I was nervous about taking my car to anyone but the ridiculously expensive dealer. All I can say, is Autowerks has my business for life (and we will be taking hubbies European car here as well). They quickly assessed the issue, fixed the problem and my car was ready when promised. They did recommend services, but did not push and did not try and upsale me. They kept me informed each step of the way and I'm sure I paid 2x less than what the dealer would have charged me. In fact, had the dealer's service department rep not been so rude (don't know if she was having a bad day or what the deal was but it was not appreciated at all considering I routinely take it to this dealer) when I called about oil leaking from my car, I would have taken my baby there.... Guess customer service really is important cuz the dealers' lack of it resulted in me taking my car and money to Autowerks....for life! Brought my Land Rover Disco here when it started stalling on me. Before leaving it I asked to speak with them and make sure the shop was equipped to work on my older, very cantankerous LR. The owner was very knowledgeable, conscientious and kind. He came out to my car, took a look, discussed the symptoms (the car was kind enough to stall while he was examining it) and then explained that I really needed to find a shop with the right, and LR specific, equipment to diagnose the problem. He didn't misrepresent his shop and it's capabilities even though he was staring at a huge shop charge just to troubleshoot my beast. I have been bringing my BMW here for a couple of years. These guys are very skilled at what they do and yet the price is about 30-50% less than what a dealer will charge. Unlike many shops they will not try to sell you work that you don't need and in fact may dissuade you from buying service that can be postponed. I am VERY picky when it comes to anyone working on my MB 55SL! (It helps that I am very knowledgeable about automotive repairs and MB cars in particular.) I brought my SL55 to Autowerks because of a whining sound that varied directly with the RPM. I explained the symptoms to Ron, the Service Manager, and he had Mike, the mechanic come out to listen to the engine. The first thing that really impressed me was that Mike used a stethoscope to listen to the various engine components and he immediately was able to zero in on the accumulator (which is part of power steering system). I then went into the office and spoke with Ron for about 15 minutes while he explained, in detail, the nature and extent of the repairs involved and he provided me with an estimate of the cost. Of course, he was up front about the fact that the cost could go up or down once they got into making the repairs. The second thing that really impressed me was that Ron alerted me to the fact that the problem could also be caused by a defective power steering pump (the part alone is $2200!) and he offered me two options; replace the accumulator for $1,100 (and hope it solves the problem) or replace the accumulator AND the power steering pump for $3,500. We mutually agreed to go the lower cost route (which turned out to be a good decision). I can't remember the last time that a repair shop working on high-end cars actually suggested a lower cost solution to a problem!! The best part of my experience was that Ron was able to adjust the final invoice to meet the original estimate that he gave me!! If you have been looking for a knowledgeable and honest place to repair your prized European car, then look no further than Autowerks!! (And, they are just nice people to deal with.) read more

I always had positive experience but last 2 visits have been disappointing. Service is getting expensive after Paul has stopped getting less involved. I took my car last week to show battery replacement warning and fan noise. First and foremost i was charged 140$ for each problem (280$) for diagnosis which i don't understand for battery when car is clearly giving warning to replace battery. I was then given estimate of 800$ for battery and battery sensor replacement and 1700$ for thermostat.. I just paid 280$ for telling me that battery and thermostat need to be replaced. I then took to the dealer and they replaced battery for less than 400$ (end to end). One of the reason i used to go here is for friendly service and not charge separately for every problem reported. I paid 140$ to tell me the problem which i reported. I am never going back again..Very disappointing read more

My older Mercedes had an SRS light come on due I believed /diagnosed to be a bad battery, that had had to be changed. Autowerks were happy just to complete a courtesy computer reset of the system, without the full diagnostic service and that cleared the issue. I've been going to Autowerks for my X5 ever since it went out of warranty, and I couldn't be happier. Ron always keeps me in the loop on what needs to be done, what parts are required, and the progress of any repairs or maintenance. Tim was nice, and the service was completed in a timely manner, and as expected. However, based on prior experience with brake/auto shops in SF, I felt that Autowerks was very expensive. I may be comparing apples and oranges--though I would think that auto shops in SF would be more expensive due to higher rental costs--but previous brake jobs in the city literally costed half as much for labor (I just double checked my records to validate the accuracy of my claim). Cost = 2 STARS. Brake service = 3 STARS. I also asked Tim to check the thrust arm bushings as a previous assessment at MB of Pleasanton indicated that they were cracked and needed to be replaced; however the work order did not show any signs that they inspected or replaced the thrust arm bushings. Since Tim wasn't around, I asked one of the mechanics if they had performed the inspection, who then consulted another mechanic. The first guy came back to me with, "if you asked Tim about it, he probably told the other guy to have it checked out". His response didn't give me the warm and fuzzies. 1 STAR. To Tim's credit, they did install my front license plate at no cost and brought my car to Wheel Works next door to have the tires replace and alignment done, so I didn't have to make two separate trips. 4 STARS. Based on other reviews, it sounds like Autowerks has a positive and longstanding reputation for providing quality service. Form a brake installation standpoint, I thought the service--on average--was good, but that the cost was high. Rounding up my rating to 3 stars to give Autowerks European the benefit of the doubt. read more

I won't take my car anywhere else. I've been using them for 7+ years. Even though I now live in San Francisco, I'll trek out to San Ramon whenever the car needs something has simple as an oil change. The most important thing in a mechanic - honesty with Paul and his whole crew have. When they don't know why a problem is occurring, they say, "I don't know, but here are the things I'm going to do to figure it out." Writing this review after my first experience with Autowerks. My car had two issues today: a burning smell and a check engine light (that the manual said meant 'take your car directly to the dealership..'). Called this morning and they took me right away. The man there (sorry, didn't catch his name) assessed it all in less than ten minutes, reset the light, and I was done. No charge, no wanting to check it out further. Just the direction to come back for a $30 gas cap if the light comes back on and an easy DIY for the smell (or really do nothing if I didn't care). Amazing. read more

I originally had a good experience with repairs but that recently changed. Back in the spring I brought in a VW bug my daughter bought due to an airbag light. They said they scanned and attempted to clear the code but it kept returning suggesting a new front seat sensor at 1K. They also found a CV boot was cracked and leaking grease so suggested the cv boot be repaired. Since my daughter did not have her license at the time we delay the repairs. Fast forward a few months and another shop cleared the airbag code and the light hasn't come back for over 5 months???? In addition the other shop said you should never just replace the CV boot when it's leaking grease as the CV joint is most likely been damaged. Plus then cost to replace the entire CV joint isn't much more $$ as the CV boot and I don't have to worry about fixing the problem twice. The other shop also found other suspension parts that needed to be replaced, including the struts/shocks. Also missed a leaking AC condenser which could have fried the AC compressor. The final straw was when I was told by 2 other shops my BMW needs new control arms which was replaced by Autowerks last year less than 5K ago. The other shops state the parts look new but they are failing. Knockoff parts???? read more

2007 mb e350 I have been to these guys two times and both times they handled my car and service with amazing care and detail. First time was for a service check up and their price was unbeatable by anyone within a 10 to 20 miles radius. Second time my car would not start when it was cold in the morning. So I took it to them and after having a diagnostic, turned out my crankshaft sensor was no good. They fixed and teat everything and so far the car runs amazing. I've been taking my VW Touareg here for years and would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a foreign make car. I feel that Paul is trustworthy and that he gives a fair estimate for his work - as a female, this is especially important since we can feel like we're being taken advantage of most of the time. I had some issues with the car recently and Paul offered to check a few other things to be sure that it was something mechanical vs. something with the electrical before moving forward with ordering the part and replacing. Each time that I've had something major done (above normal maintenance services), the car has worked great afterwards and it's good having the peace of mind knowing that the work is top-notch. During my last service, I had a lot of questions about what was happening to my car and Paul was very helpful in answering all of them - he showed me the part and explained how it functioned and what was faulty.
