I stopped by to drop off a donation at Goodwill on MacArthur in Oakland and, lo and behold, there was an AutoZone right next door. I've been meaning to replace the original battery in my SUV, so I took it as a sign and decided to stop in. This turned out to be the best AutoZone experience I've ever had! A million thanks to Ms. LT for taking such great care of me. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and took the time to recommend the best battery option for my SUV without any pressure. Her customer service was outstanding from start to finish. The best part? She even installed the battery for me! That level of service was completely unexpected and greatly appreciated. It's rare to find someone who goes above and beyond the way she did. Thank you, Ms. LT, for the amazing and phenomenal service. I called and asked about getting a new battery around 5:30pm on 7/2, as it was the first time I had to replace mine in my car. The women (who's name I didn't get but was super nice) was super helpful and assured that they would have the battery in so I didn't need to buy it online for a pick up. I came in, her and Eric did not hesitate to help out! Eric was awesome to help me and replace the battery as I didn't have any tools! Took less them 15 minutes for the entire interaction from walking in the door to leaving with a new battery! read more

Easy to find stuff and workers were helpful. I was after lightbulbs and had no clue how to look for them or anything . That being said I was on my way home with bulbs in 10 minutes and installed them at home in 10 more minutes. read more

These 5 stars go to dude with the dreads at the front counter handling business, pretty sure he said his name is Hernando. My guy was answering 2 simultaneous phone calls while also working the register AND greeting people as the walked in the door, and doing it all with aplomb. He even rolled me up a funnel out of printer paper to pour oil with into my engine later. If I owned a business, this is the type of guy I'd want working for me, or want as a coworker, or a boss, no matter the industry. As they say, I'd give 6 stars if I could! read more

This place is in East Oakland, not deep East, but easy enough that you can expect the demographic of customers to be a bit rougher than others. With that said, the employees there that I encountered were knowledgeable and helpful. I called in to see if they had Transmission fluid, and the young man who answered my call gave me a detailed, helpful and honest response. In the store, he was also attentive and quick to get me through the line of customers. The place can get loud and make others feel on edge, but having a satisfied experience there and was appreciative of the service for what it was, I believe this is a spot where people can go to get what they need. 4/5. read more

This is a belated review when I bought a battery for my car. This AutoZone is run by professionals as opposed to one on 27th St., which, IMO, deserves a zero-star review of how dysfunctional it was, a truly mind-bending experience. But... this review is for the one on MacArthur Blvd. I called ahead to find out if someone would install it for me, and they said yes. A huge plus. "LT" made the sale, efficiently and call Eric S, the manager to install the battery Eric S, the Parts Sales Mgr. did the work on my car and when the car refused to start the first time, he made the right call, the starter was failing. When the car finally started, I thought nothing about it until much later when it happened frequently. The motor would not turn over sometimes. I had the car checked over and got the bad news, the starter was failing, just about the time I wanted to sell the car. I am not the sort of person who would hide such a problem from a buyer... This is what reminded me today that I had not reviewed AutoZone on MacArthur. I bought a starter from their location. read more

As soon as I came in I was greeted by a friendly hello from the security guard. I went in looking for a bulb for my brake lights and a gentleman named Hernandez helped me right away. Then he offered to help me replace it. Keep in mind I do not know anything about cars but his attentiveness and friendly demeanor definitely allowed me to feel more comfortable in a place where I really don't feel comfortable. Big THANK YOU to the team at this AutoZone for coming through in every way when I came in to buy a replacement battery for a Prius C (that I'd had to get jumped to reach them, and which wouldn't have started again without their assistance in multiple ways). Eric managed to replace the old battery with the appropriate new one (that I'd called to confirm was in stock) despite it being located in an "odd" location within the backseat compartment. The staff at this location really know what's up! They were super helpful and informative when it came to picking a few things up for my car. I don't speak car at all and it's a whole other world for me but I definitely felt comfortable coming here knowing they would take care of me and have my best interest at heart. I came in to this store needing assistance with a battery under warranty and got the most excellent customer service from Malik. It was first in the phones. He carefully researched my battery, explained how the warranty worked and then invited me into swap it at my earliest convenience. When I came into the store I noticed someone helping another customer using the same tone catch phrase he did with me, "No worries I got you". When my turn came he was patient and helpful with my husband and I. He recommended additonal products to extend our battery life and ensure my safety. Malik gave a master class in white glove customer service. He was warm, helpful and kind. He was very knowledgeable and really trying to help in every way possible. How wonderful to get the small town feel of excellent personal service service in a big city like this one. This main deserves praise and recognition. My husband's car had a dead key battery and I needed the car that day. I came here shortly after they opened, looked around the store but couldn't find the battery. The woman behind the counter quickly asked if I needed help. I told her what I needed and she looked at the batteries and said there weren't any on the shelf but offered to look in the back. She came out with exactly what I needed. Excellent customer service! I was in and out in less than five minutes, and everyone was wearing face masks and observing social distancing. read more

The staff was polite and professional. Not only did they help me with the best antifreeze for my vehicle, they gave me a simple tutorial of where the antifreeze goes. Best part of the visit they put in antifreeze into my vehicle for me and ensured it was running properly before I left. They went above and beyond without me even asking. read more

I've been here 3 times and they have never had what I needed, the last time being coolant for my Honda. The other time was oil and I don't remember what it was the first time. It reminds me of the Walgreens on High St. Where their entire store is understocked. That's intentional from what I hear because they have such a high theft problem but what's the point of having a store if customers can never get what you need. Staff has always been consistent though. They're always happy to tell you you're $h;t out of luck. For that I give them an extra star! read more

You can throw the football around in the parking lot and teach your kids how to ride a bike. But the BBQ joint across the street closed tho. They had some good brisket. My first visit here - I had to leave my motorcycle running because the battery died and I had to bump start it going down the hill! Seems to be a common theme for this store based on other reviews... Pretty well stocked shop and customer service has been good. They are often busy and when I returned a couple weeks later, they tested and recharged my battery (and also tested my old battery). It's amazing that this stretch of the Laurel District supports AutoZone AND an O'Reilly (which I have yet to visit) within just a few blocks of each other. I was having car problems and didn't know what to do, I can in and a you young gentleman names bill helped out. He welcomed me in with a smile, asked me how my day was and how I can help. I had already been having a bad day but the warm welcome helped me relax a bit. I told him I had a check engine light and he helped me scan my car, just like that my problem was only a evap sensor. It was a busy afternoon at AutoZone but Marcus and team were very courteous and helped me get my car battery installed. I called ahead of time and received help in putting the battery I needed on hold. When I came in Marcus helped me remove my old battery and then install the new one. There were really only two people working and the line got long plus one of the computers were down, but the staff didn't forget about me although I had to wait a little bit for them to take care of the customers in the queue. Overall it was a pleasant experience and Marcus was of immense help getting the battery installed. He's a very kind and helpful guy! Thank you again Marcus and Autozone! read more

They left me on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up then called back in which the same guy picked up & said "oh yea we have it" with no apology for wasting my time. This is the absolute worst auto zone experience in all locations in or near Oakland. Specifically the two women that work there ( lucretia and the other female with the jerry curl) have consistent confrontational demeanors at all times. Not once in the 50 times I've entered that store has either one of them been pleasant....now that's off my chest. The staff is lazy. They are quick to say they don't sell an item. If they haven't heard of it. They shun looking it up on the computer and never and I mean never ever are proactive in helping the customer. There is ONE employee that shines and is a model employee, black dude, not the skinny one - I should have gotten his name. But he smiles, is courteous and willing to help. The managers of this location, I'd there are any should be reprimanded for running such a lax store. I've simply went elsewhere many times just because I didn't want to deal with the angry cashiers or the lazy staff members. You have options people. O'Reillys is RIGHT DOWN THE STREET and the experience differs from this place like night and day. I doubt they will be in business by this day next year if nothing changes. They allow people to rev their engines in the parking lot, have the music playing out loud and when I called to complain the lady told me she couldn't do anything about it and then started yelling at me telling me that I had to listen to her. They told me it is not there so they told me to give them 2 days to order another one. 2 days later i got it but when i got home and took my car apart, it turn out that it doesn't fit. Absolutely the worst customer service ever. If I didn't need the bulbs for my rear lights right then and there I would have left. I walk in and receive no greeting. When I asked for help for my part the girl acted is if I asked her her social security number, to my surprise her badge said "Parts Specialist". This place used to be helpful. I have been gone for a few years, used to go here all the time. I just moved back into the neighborhood and it seems to look like someone else took charge because this place basically has nothing to offer. Customer service was horrible, they don't carry anything, and what we they do carry most of them are broken or returned items. I called this afternoon to see if a thermostat and gasket were in stock. I was told there was only one thermostat left and I asked them to put it on hold. They got my name, found me in the computer and said they'd hold the items. My partner goes to pick up the items after work and it turns out nothing was put on hold and the gasket wasn't even in stock! I wish the employee I spoke with hadn't wasted my time. Not covid safe. While it appears they have put measures into place to help keep people 6 feet apart, the staff is either not wearing masks or not doing so properly. The people behind the counter will pull their masks up when they talk to customers but both of them had their noses sticking out the whole time. A mask is pointless if you are not using it to breath out of. The security guard at the door that you have to walk by was wearing his mask ON HIS FOREHEAD. I did get the part I needed but I will not go back into this store again. read more
