So I know that the guys at the auto parts counters usually get a bad rap. Typically , people want them to be master mechanics and know everything, and that's just not the case. Other times it's more legitimate concerns, often they're not helpful or their minimum wage.And it's just a job to get by. But not these two guys this morning. Fourth of july , i've got a flat tire , and it's simple enough to be plugged. I know they can't actually help me and touch my car liability issues and all that, but I'll be darned if these guys didn't help me me more than most aaa tow truck drivers. Just left the store and had to write a glowing review. The assistant manager helped me and my daughter quickly identify the correct headlamp bulb for both of our cars, walked us over to get those bulbs, and after ringing them up, offered to come out to the parking lot to install the bulb in the car we had with us. I called to say on Sunday to say I needed a new battery and asked if they could install it. Yes! I arrived at the store. The young man helped me pick out a battery, suggested getting pads to prevent corrosion, and came out to install the battery and test to make sure the car was running well. 10 minutes later my new battery was installed and the car was like new. What a thrill to receive such good, old fashioned automative expertise on a Sunday when it would have been hard to get the battery replaced (as the guy who gave me a jump didn't have batteries). A good car day thanks to O'Reilly on Broadway. My car died a couple times while driving, so I was nervous. Battery? Something worse? Ishmael tested the battery. "Yep, it's bad," he said. Dear reader, you might want to sit down for the next part. "You bought it here and it's still under warranty." When does that happen? He proceeded to install a new one for free. As he was installing it, he asked me what had happened, then suggested it could be a problem with the alternator. Did I want him to test that too? Yes! He tested the alternator and the starter and both were good. Wow! This is what it feels like when things go right. I'm back on the road with total peace of mind. After calling and speaking to Derrick, we headed to this O'Reilly Auto Parts to have a new battery installed. Our current battery was in really bad shape, but luckily Derrick happily took on the challenge and explained all the steps that he would have to take to get our new battery in, including 1) cleaning off the current battery (see pictures) and 2) having him remove an acid-damaged receptor (oops) and replace it before installing the new battery. He also provided us with tips for how to maintain our new battery to avoid a situation like this in the future (Derrick - we promise we won't ever let it get this bad again). Derrick was extremely professional, helpful, and kind; he went above and beyond to turn our day around. We can't thank him enough for helping us out this morning. Prime example of a place that's just not trying very hard to be any good. They're out of stock on basics like batteries and wiper blades. The shelves are haphazard in their organization and signage is limited. You'll have to hunt for what you're after. The counter staff is kinda rude and unhappy, and that gets projected all over the customers. Not like an auto parts store is ever going to be a retail *experience* but this place is depressing. read more

I come back for my battery today 12/21 and find it's on the concrete floor. they finally put it on the charger but report i have a bad battery. they sent me on my way with a battery that doesn't work. they won't compensate me for it. the manager Jamie says the corporation won't give the store a proper shelf to put batteries on to prevent this. my car is a 2010 Acura TL. does anyone have a battery out there they are not using? On my way to work in the morning I realized that one of my brake lights was out. When I go to work, I placed an order on O'Reilly's web site for replacement bulbs. The site said I would be notified when the order was ready for pickup, estimated at about an hour. 24 hours later I called customer service since I never was notified that the order was ready. The CSR called the store, spoke to Derrick, and her said that the order was ready. I was a little disappointed that I was never notified and that I'd had to drive home and then back to Oakland with a tail light burned out, but whatever, I'd replace the bulb during my lunch break and not risk another day of commuting and getting a traffic ticket. I left work on my lunch break, drove to O'Reilly's... so that I could watch another associate search the store for 10 minutes (maybe 15) for inventory that obviously not in stock at the store while Derrick stood there saying he took the call, but he didn't actually pull the inventory. My guess is that Derrick took the call, didn't even check if they had the stock, and lied to the CSR when he said the order was ready. I don't pay any company to waste my time, and not only has O'Reilly's wasted my time, but due to their apathetic associates, helped me to risk getting pulled over and issued a traffic ticket. I suppose Derrick is willing to let me pay that sort of price because he didn't feel like checking his store inventory. And that's why O'Reilly's just lost a customer. read more

I am a new car owner and am starting to get my head on straight on how to do simple repairs on my car. I had a brake light out for a while and it was giving me a totally headache. It was the first one I've ever had to change out myself and it seemed simple enough from the YouTube videos I watched. I put in an online order. My suggestion to customers is to call a few hours after placing and see if it'll be ready that day and when. I feel like as a store employee, maybe it's helpful to get a little prompting for it. When I called, I was helped by a person named Maria and she was so great. What it said initially on her computer was that my order needed a few days for certain items to ship to the store. I was so bummed. But after she looked closer, she realized everything was there and I could come by in 10 min to pick up before closing! A few days later, I realized the light I picked up was not correct. It was another stressful moment for me. I showed up to return the lights and get the correct ones. There was a young man who helped me right away asking what I needed and told me where to go, and another man named Tremaine who not only helped me find the right ones, but also made sure I installed them right in the parking lot and confirmed the lights worked before I drove off. I appreciate him for making a stressful situation for me totally easy and helped me finish my first little maintenance project for my car. So grateful. I just left this store and it was horrible service! I mean absolutely horrible! This place I'm sure is hot and Miss because I've had good service before. I walked in looking for a particular tool, and couldn't find it. I ask female employee behind counter who was busy having a conversation with another employee where can I find it and she points where I came from and goes anything you see will be right there. She walks over where I ask another question with no help or input from her except opening the cabinet where I proceeded to find nothing. I went there to pick up wiper blades for my Toyota Highlander. The guy at the counter looked them up and told me the right models to purchase. Fortunately, they were on sale because you can no longer just buy the blades. when I got home I tried to put them on and was thrown by the ridiculous instructions in the Bosch packaging. I went back a couple of days later and explain my problem to the guy behind the counter named Nick. He followed me out to my car, replaced The wipers in about two minutes and agreed that the instructions in the package were BS. Nick was helpful, polite, and really wanted to provide good service. Horrible customer service. A customer, English obviously his second language, Was trying to find out how much a battery was after the core charge was deducted. The female at the front desk was not understanding his question. Which is understandable and frustrating, however an employee from the back yelled at the customer well then just bring in the battery! She's telling you the cost! When the same customer brings the battery in and asks where the male employee wants him to place the battery. He yells at him, "can't you see I'm on the phone, go talk to her! Then I come up to ask about seeing if my battery is still good, asking him to test, and he states they have never done that, and has no clue where to recommend.
