Update to my original review. I got the necropsy results back and it was exactly what I feared. My cats lungs had fluid so being on oxygen was not enough. I have been to many many emergency vets and dealt with many crisis in caring for rescue animals, and anytime an animal can't breathe, one of the first things that is checked is to see if there is fluid in the lungs and to treat that with a dirutic. They never gave my baby the direutic he needed to breathe. Furthermore, they exaceperated the issue by not giving him cerenia to prevent him from vomitting and getting more liquid in his lungs. A critical patient must be prevented from vomitting!!! They gave it almost 5 hours later after he vomitted and choked on it. Finally the owner of the hospital (who owns a few others in the area) has a revoked license due to NEGLIGENCE and Dr Vanders who treated my cat is on PROBATION with his license. The morning doctor is just as bad, he should have immediately noticed that the cat did not get a diuretic or cerenia or ANTIBIOTICS which would have helped within the hour. My cat was there 5 hours and they did none of these things. Are the vet techs to incompetent to look over the chart and see what a doctor might have missed? They are there to assist. Thanks Lily for your delayed comment and concerns. I talked to Jose and he kindly tried to arrange a call with the doctor. The night the scheduled it for, I was not ready to speak with them but tried for another night. It never happened. How do you explain not delivering my cats body Lily on time? You guys held on to his corpse for 7 days against my wishes....your team came up with ever excuse in the book not to deliver his body to me. I should have called the police. This is the second time I have had to take my dog to AV Vet. Both times she has been sick and I have been a panicked mama. The employees are fantastic and make me and my dog feel important. Everyone there are good at their jobs, friendly, the office is always fresh smelling, and relaxing environment to wait while we wait for our fur babies. I can only say that sometimes you may have to wait a little while to get treatment for your pet. At the same time we NEED to remember that the emergencies take priority. I have filed a complaint against AV Veterinary Center regarding unnecessary charges, BBB Complaint Case# 938428 (Ref#11-417116-938428-9-500). I would not take my pet anywhere near this place and currently routinely travel 30 miles out of my local area to get proper pet health care. Fortunately thanks to a different Veterinarian, my cat is now fine and more like her former self (that bill was $360) and it was quickly discovered she had an infection, AV Veterinary Center did not conclude this in their many, many tests. After reviewing the test results, the second Vet, was curious why these tests were called for as stated none of these test readings were very high, certainly not to justify an almost $3,000 bill! Seemed every animal coming in needed an IV and while we were there they released a dog and the owner came back in and asked "is the dog supposed to still have the catheter in?" After the assistant finished laughing they took the dog back to remove it. Our cat had a rash and after blood work, X-ray and IV we were gladly told it was nothing and our cat was extremely healthy. Gave our cat medication and when we got home read the label and it was for dogs not cats. Had to buy a handling box and a cone that we didn't want or need. Overpriced and poorly operated. My puppy managed to injure himself playing to the extent that he needed his wound shaved, cleaned and stapled up. Lillian and AV Veterinary Center were the only people we could find on a Sunday at the time he was injured. They showed concern, were courteous and understanding. The vet tech was friendly and took extra precautions to make sure my pup got exactly what was needed. He was sedated in a very humane way and came back to me all fixed up and happy. AV Vet is 24 hours and saved us over $1,000 which was great! I deal with close to 20 vets a week with my job. I was impressed by their knowledge and customer service. The waiting room was clean and well kept and the front desk staff were attentive. I even saw a dog have an accident in front of the vet and staff immediately come out sanitize and hose the area down. These are the small things I look for in a vet. So glad to have found them! read more

We had 3 related Dachshunds all go to AV. THEY WERE OUR CHILDREN! Kaycee is 17. She was suffering from illness & old age. Mostly blind, mostly deaf, weak, senile, confused, unbalanced & couldn't control bodily functions. Her declining state would be selfish, We brought her to AV were we brought her brother & mom when they were passing. We called ahead. It's 15 minutes away. They told us the time. We explained Kaycee is terrified of cars & vets. We wanted this as peaceful as possible. They gave us the room where we've said goodbye twice before. Kaycee was frantic. We were trying to calm her. Hugging, loving & holding her. She started dementia circles in the room. It calms her. I came out of the room many times. Please she suffering! We are busy. It will be soon. She came in saw her pacing with fear & agreed. CAN WE HURRY PLEASE SHE'S SUFFERING! Someone would be in to put the catheter. I could now here her crying so hard from the other room. The staff brought her back. she was terrified trying to jump from my husband's arms. Kaycee can't jump she can barely walk. This was pure adrenaline. Waiting for the vet. I come out of the room, PLEASE SOMEONE HELP HER AT LEAST GIVE HER A SEDITIVE TO CALM HER...PLEASE!! they said, we're busy. I come out again I'm crying. Please help her. I thought I need to find a better way. Maybe remove the catheter, get a prescription where she could be calmer & we could bring her the following day. They are negligent. The vet finally came in & our little girl went to sleep. They gave us time with her, but after a long period we couldn't keep holding her lifeless body. I went back out & said, can someone please come get her? This was not kind, professional or humane. We can't stop crying! The visual will not go away. AV let her down. Her torment was their fault. We have had ok experiences or complete awful experiences with this clinic, but never great experiences. Our most recent experience was a pretty awful one. My dog got a foxtail in her ear a few days prior which, having previously been a tech, I removed. She seemed fine; however the night before taking her in she started shaking her head like crazy and favoring her other ear. I decided to be safe rather than sorry and take her in just in case there was another one lodged deeper than I could see. When I sat with the technician she expressed to me how incredibly tired she was and seemed to not be having a great start to her day. Their was a lack of professionalism off the get go. After waiting for a couple hours and handing my dog over, they told me they had some emergencies before my dog and they would call me when they were ready to work with her. I went home and waited for the call. I was presented with two estimates. Both leading me to believe that they had already looked in the ear and did in fact see a foxtail. The first estimate was a simple clean and flush with medication to go home to reassess in a few days if conditions worsen. The other estimate was 3 times the cost of the first with sedation and was presented to me as only necessary if conditions worsen. I agreed to the first estimate and was excited to get my dog home. An hour later I was called saying my dog's ear was too painful and she wouldn't let them near it (which was weird considering it was not painful to the touch at all when I left her). I immediately was lead to believe that conditions had worsened and they needed to sedate to remove a deeply embedded foxtail. I of course, did not want my dog to be in pain anymore, and despite the cost (with which we really could not afford) I said go for it, I guess. A few minutes later I was called asking DNR or CPR if things went south with putting her under, and was lead to feel as though this was even more serious than I thought. I got off the phone after recognizing my husband and I could not afford CPR if it came down to it and just started crying. Thankfully, my pooch made it through fine and we were called back to find out that there was no foxtail. The only issue was a small, "reachable" scratch from the foxtail a few days prior. I was in shock, confused, and felt extremely manipulated recognizing that the first estimate was all my dog actually needed and we did not need to spend an incredible amount of money to put my poor dog through so much trauma. When we arrived to pick up our dog, we asked to speak to the technician and doctor (as we had no communication with the doctor prior) and the receptionist simply said ok and continued her conversation with her colleague. We weren't actually helped until someone came from the back asking if we had been helped. We were put into a room and basically told there was very little they could do about our experience as we gave consent over the phone for the procedures. Again, I felt manipulated as I didn't realize their version of consent over the phone just meant agreeing to the cost without any true explanation or proper review of the situation and estimate. Ultimately, I believe most of the staff do care for your pet; however, as far as management is concerned, the draw to financial gain is a lot more important. Will they help your pet? Sure (but they are told to do so only at a very steep cost paid upfront...otherwise they do not seemingly care if your pet is suffering). All in all, there is a definite lack of professionalism and a very clear lack of concern for you as a client. If at all possible, I would suggest going to a different clinic before even considering this one. To the tech that worked with me, miscommunications happen and bad days are real. Our intentions in all of this were not to make you feel discouraged. Unfortunately things happen and I do not believe manipulation was intentional or you were out to get us in any way or form on your end. To the doctor who took the time to listen to us despite his busy schedule. We appreciate it. And to the tech who helped us at the end of it all, you are very sweet and gentle. Thank you. read more

Sad when you're happy with the fact that they took great care of your family dog a month ago and they tell you to follow up on a particular date and have you wait in the parking lot for TWO HOURS because they don't do appointments! I get it?.. but if you don't do appointments then don't make me follow up and hold medication hostage! And how about customer service? Never got to speak to the veterinarian. Charged nearly 300 dollars to get an x-ray that the doctor was too busy to even explain what we were looking at. Once we confirmed that there was indeed a bowel blockage, the vet tech recommended that they run a 1500 dollar barium test to confirm what we already knew. IF, the test confirmed what we already knew then there would be an additional 3000 dollar surgery. Again, we saw/spoke with no doctor. This is heartbreaking for me to write, but I came here on Sunday with my dog in my arms. She was old, diabetic, blind, and an infection left her unable to walk to hold her head straight or eat. They helped my dog pass to the other side with love and dignity. The staff were incredibly compassionate and patient helping me through the process. They were respectful and gave me as much time as I needed to process my grief there with my dog and never once rushed the process. I felt like they understood my pain. They treated both my dog and I as best as they could. I couldn't be more thankful for them helping my best friend be at peace. A follow up condolence card in the mail reminded me of how personal they made my visit feel. Thank you for treating my Shelby as if she was your own. MY SUFFERING CAT DIRTY COVERED IN PEE Took my cat at 1am because she was wheezing and too weak to move also lethargic. They sent me home and told me it wasn't an emergency even though it was obvious she was dying. The next day we brought her in again and they didn't treat her till I put the 2k deposit down. When I would call to check in since my cat had to stay the night some told me she was doing better so she should stay another 24hrs (another $900) until I checked up on my cat before I went to bed and the man taking care of her basically said she was suffering and her kidney levels were not going back down and even if she lived longer with the second day of treatment it wouldn't stop her from the pain she would be feeling. I at least appreciated that he was the only honest person. That night we went to put her down. I lifted the blanket off of her and found her bottom half hard and crusty with urine. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!! They WILL take you for all you have and not help you find a way to help your animal. I came here as my dog who had suffered from liver issues her entire life needed help. I was prepared to have to pay for lab work as that is the only way to check the liver numbers. But all the other unnecessary things added were ridiculous. The Veterinarian came in for 5 mins after I got done explaining to the Vet tech that X-rays were not needed, to tell me he does not see anything wrong with my dog's liver numbers and needed an X-ray to determine what is wrong. An X-ray was done and it showed poop and possible gas. $1,300 later they had no diagnosis, no meds were given and I was to come back tomorrow for her "pre-paid" X-rays with another estimate on other things they wanted to do totaling up to another $435. The next day I went to my dog's regular Vet. The nurse that took us to the room immediately noticed the yellow eyes, gums, and skin. She asked if the other vet had said anything to me. I told her no and let her know all that was done by AV Veterinary. The Vet came in and noticed the same thing. I showed him the same lab work done at AV Veterinary Center and he could not believe the liver numbers. He told me she was suffering and her liver was shutting down (No X-ray needed). He gave me pain and liver meds to keep her comfortable until I was ready to bring her back and have her put down. My dog suffered. I watched as she pissed blood when we got home. She could barely walk. I brought her in on a Sunday to a Veterinarian that I thought would help her. Knowing full well about her liver condition I did not want to risk waiting to see her regular vet and have her suffer. I did not wait a week to put her down. I brought her back to her regular vet and put her out of her misery. When we took her out of her blanket to prep her we saw the full extent of the disease progression as her entire belly was almost orange. FYI, my dog's regular Vet only charged me $170 for her office visit, accurate diagnosis, as well as liver and pain meds to sustain her until we returned. This is a small comparison to the $1,300 charged the day before. read more

I can't say enough positive things about everyone here! My German Shepherd Rogan, had to have a scrotal ablation after getting infected prior to getting neutered at a different veterinarians office. I came here and immediately felt comfortable with them taking care of my dog. His infection was pretty bad. The vet who performed the surgery was so kind and actually spoke to me and explained everything! Unlike the other location. Heather who was I believe the vet tech, kept me up to date with Rogan during his entire stay, called me before, after and later on to give me fallow ups on how he was recovering. I came in cause my pup decided to get the zoomies around the wrong place and colided with a metal picnic chair. She cut her leg it was mostly a surface wound but it did need a couple staples from the looks of it. So brought her in and the staff was okay. Even though I'm not the friendliest when I'm anxious, the staff was still nice about my short answers. Waited for a while to have her checked. She was bleeding over a pad and tape I used to cover before getting there and I was scared it was to tight so when I asked if they could just rebandage with something they had they were kind about it and did it while we waited. Lessened my anxiety a little. Once we were brought to the room they took my pups tempature and then just took her to the back room, with out saying anything, where I'm guessing they checked her wound with out us there (I didn't like that) the vet came in with out her and explained to us that surgery wasn't needed cause my pup had healthy tissue (which I knew wasn't necessary from my prior vet tech experience) but they would need to give her 2-3 staples to close the wound and just bandage her up. After that she left and then a little while later a vet assistant/tech came in with the estimated total and um that was a shock, came out to $365 (that's not including the $28 to rebandage fee that they say she needs in 3 days.) I wasn't upset about the cost, I was just shocked. What I didn't like was after the vet assistant said the total I repeated "$365, wow" and she said sarcastically "Well, I'm not dyslexic so, yes 365." Which I replied "I didn't say you were" and then she pretty much said to just take it up with the girls at the front desk if there were any issues and walked out. After I paid, of course, they did what they had to do. The same vet assistant went over the meds and antibiotics with me and was very informative no sarcasm included this time. Lol. I do have to give them credit for having a cheap examination fee (which is still included in the bill unfortunately) and coffee free of charge. So yeah all I have to say now, is if you don't like to be overcharged then don't come here if it's not an emergency and you don't have pet insurance, go to your regular vet. On the pricey side (which is why I stopped bringing my dog here) but this was the only place that was taking emergency appointments. My dog was attacked by the neighbors dog and she was bleeding on her paw, but by the time I waited to get her seen the bleeding had stopped. I Spent $188 on a bandage, antibiotics and an anti inflammatory shot. I Was told initially that her paw was broken without an X-ray. My dog did not act like it was broken at all! I Called a couple of days after when the bandage fell off to see if she needed a new one and spoke with Cali. She was more informative then the initial tech and very helpful (she deserves a raise) awesome customer service!!! Only giving 2 stars because of Cali honestly. read more

My sweet little girl just got a cancer free diagnosis. She's doing awesome after having her spleen removed.I couldn't be more grateful to Dr Sandhu and his wonderful team. Please note this is based off of a very brief visit, and they did not actually inspect my cat. But they gave such good service I wanted to leave a review. I was on a long drive when my cat started panting with its mouth open and then became lethargic. This was more extreme than his normal whining in the car so I got very concerned. I made a detour and stopped at AV Vet. By the time I arrived, my cat had calmed down and I realized that I may be overreacting but wanted to speak with someone for peace of mind so I called the office from my car (due to covid regulations they had me wait in the parking lot). 5-10 minutes later Julia came out and I explained the situation and also that I probably was overreacting. Even though I was not an emergency, she took the time to thoroughly answer my questions and give advice for the future. She didn't make me fill out any paper work - just was giving kind and sound advice. I so appreciate when people are compassionate, patient, and helpful. read more

The entire staff is awesome! Had an emergency issue with you 2 year old Sheltie (Wesley) over the weekend and received amazing care. Gina (our nurse) took a lot of time with us, answered all our questions and gave us some great advice. She went well above and beyond, even with a busy Saturday schedule, we never felt rushed. The front desk even got us a doggie water dish while we waited. About the only negative for the place is lack of seating, but when it is an emergency, the last thing you think about is sitting down. Any pet lover wants only for their fur family to be cared for by people who are kind and passionate about working with animals. The staff here may like animals, but they are CRAP when it comes to human interaction. They are disrespectful and down right RUDE when they are not given praise for being decent human beings. My sister was distraught about her dog, who was being treated for something they never even diagnosed after charging $800+. When we went to pick our dog up, we were told there was a balance. My sister asked why no one had called to tell us about the extra treatment before doing it, the tech threatened to charge her more for being rude since she had allegedly not charged for a treatment she couldn't prove was done. My fiancé and I loved it here. We adopted our sweet fur baby Binx recently and upon looking over his papers we saw he was due for his second fvrcp shot. I had no luck getting an appointment at any of the vets in the area that we had called and I didn't want him to be any further behind so i contacted AVVC to see if it was ok to bring him in for a non emergency visit. I was so pleased with how nice they were over the phone as well as in person when I brought him in. Being just 4 months he was so scared, but they were so sweet and great with him. He got his shot and nails trimmed and went from shaking to being calm. I highly recommend this place. They not only were great with my kitten, but they put my nerves at ease as well. I took my cat here after our regular vet recommended this place for hospitalization. The first vet diagnosed him with pancreatitis and this vet just went along with the diagnosis and didn't bother to check him again. After a week of pain for my baby and almost $3,000 gone into their pockets, a useful, ethical vet finally gave us an honest answer. My cat had a cancerous tumor and the best thing for him was to put him to sleep. This place saved my puppy's life last night. We found her unresponsive in our living room, rushed her to this vet. They accepted her immediately and began working on her. She ate something poisonous. They kept her overnight for treatment. When I called for updates (I'm a worried dog mama), they always took the time to answer all my questions and reassure me. Especially a tech named Kim. I have an 11 week mini aussie who was taken here by the breeder because his 4 year old had stepped on him and fractured his tibia on Fourth of July. He was put into a cast and was told to come back for a check up. I wanted him to come back to get his check up where he got his cast since they already know what's going on and have his xrays. Called yesterday and told them about my dog and they knew the situation and even had an ID number for him. They told me it would be a long wait if I came and I was prepared for that. The breeder ended up trying to bring him in for me today and was waiting 2 hours and tried again later in the evening. I drove down from Long Beach to come check my dog in at around 10pm. Finally get a call at around 1230am for them to tell me it's not an emergency and that cannot see him today and to come back tomorrow morning. If I want them to see him today it would be $600! At no point in time did they ever tell me that the vet wouldn't be able to see my dog. They had me wait 2 hours to tell me that. You can't make an appointment because it's first come first serve. You can't even call to get them in line for the wait when it can be 3-4 hours long but they had me wait two hours to tell me they can't see my dog for the check up they wanted us to come back to. We can't begin to say how happy we are to have found AV Veterinary Center. Our 5 y/o English Bulldog Ellie was in respiratory distress after being spayed (performed at a different facility not associated with AV Vet). My wife and I took Ellie on a Monday night at 2am. The staff saw that Ellie was in distress and immediately jumped into action. It turned out she came down with Aspersion pneumonia when she was coming out of anesthesia from her surgery. Four nights later Ellie is back home and doing fantastic! Dr. Sandhu, Antonio and the rest of the staff are amazing. Dr. Sandhu was upfront and explained to us what he thought was the best plan for treating Ellie. Even when having to take care of a stubborn bulldog, who started nipping at the staff (sorry about your thumb Kim), they were wonderful, caring, understanding and patient. Everyone took their time explaining procedures and processes to us, never losing their patience or compassion. They encouraged us to visit Ellie and allowed us to visit at any time, day or night. We are so happy with the care Ellie received, we have decided to make them her primary veterinarian. Once again, thank you for the fantastic care and treatment of our little girl! read more
