Always like to come here to catch a KU game! Their Cheesy Breadsticks, and pizzas are delicious! Service is great even when it's busy!

Jambalaya with andouille sausage and shrimp

My husband and I really enjoy eating at Johnny's . They have great wings. I honestly struggle sometimes to look at other options of what to eat on the menu. I have seen several times the Jambalaya and was curious to try it. Everything on the menu looks appetizing and I think you can't really go wrong with any of their menu items. I decided today was the day I would try the Jambalaya. I even added the shrimp for the up charge. We usually always go to the Ridgeview location. It's a great location and the service is always great. We decided to come to the Antioch and 95th location. It was super busy but we got seated relatively quickly. We did wait a good amount of time for our food. When my Jambalaya came out the food looked disheveled were. The plate presentation was messy. There was a spoon served with it and a piece of toast that looked like it quickly got soggy from sopping in the sauce. I personally like crunchy toast. Dare I say I like toast to be toasty. The shrimp was large and was really good in flavor. The andouille sausage was good. Definitely recommend adding the shrimp. Another strong recommendation is change the plate that the food is served on . Perhaps a deeper bowl type. Also it wouldn't hurt to wipe the excess food on the side of the plate before it gets served. I mentioned it to our server and she agreed the food lacked presentation. Thankfully the taste made up for it. I even had a surprise small piece of chicken.

We went in for late night dining in. Most places stop serving right around 9pm. Menu has a pretty good selection. Lots of TV screen around if you're there to watch sport. They also have a room with games and music Jukebox. Fire pit outside for that cool evening outdoor seating. I ordered the firecracker shrimp tacos. It was great. Just the kind of tacos I like. This place was quiet enough to have a conversation with your friend there. Service was great. Waitress was attentive. A place I would definitely come back to.

This is a great spot for good food. I have been here for lunch a few times. You can be in an out under an hour. I ordered the shrimp platter this time and loved it. I enjoy both their fried and grilled shrimp. The hush puppies were ok, though maybe just a tad dry. The fries are good, standard fries. We tried the onion rings and I found them to be just ok (not much flavor but they were crunchy). I'll return for lunch here!

Great menu with lots of choices, wonderful food, terrific server (Kristie), lots of TVs turned to sports, and decent prices...what's not to like? They even have an electronic sign outside to let you know if there's a wait! I had the Caprese Salad, an unexpected item for a sports bar, and SO unexpectedly delicious, with pesto, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella balls, mixed Spring greens, grape tomatoes (that were actually flavorful...a rarity), and all dressed with a yummy balsamic vinaigrette. I added the crispy chicken, but there are other choices. This Caprese Salad rivaled any I've had, and it was big enough to take some home for another meal. My friend said the Walnut Salad is also fresh and wonderful, but after hearing our server describe the French Dip Sandwich stacked with real sliced roast beef, she opted for that. They have several potato sides, from homemade chips, to waffle-cut sweet potato fries that were perfectly crisped and OMG good! Kristie also claimed the burgers (several varieties) are excellent, and since she was right about everything else, I trust that and I will be back for one! The reason for 4 stars is that I'm usually not a fan of sports bars (too noisy and the TVs are too distracting), but the noise level was OK, and they have obviously focused their attention on serving great, fresh food. I will definitely be back for more of that!

This review is very sad... I stopped into this place with a few friends to grab a drink and catch up. The outside area was fantastic. Comfortable place to just relax. Our waitress was a gem that would play a bit and great at service as well. This is where it takes a turn for the worse... One end of the patio was filled with a group that had drank a bit and kept yelling at our waitress every time she walked out the door. Due, I am sure, to inebriation they couldn't tell that she was continually making rounds of everyone out on the patio. The last straw was a group of younger (barely drinking age) that showed up and was just plain rude to everyone there. Now understand I was a sailor for a number of years and can cuss with the best of them. But, cussing has a purpose and never to be used at the person trying to serve you. Also that little game of "this isn't what I ordered" gets old real quick. This probably would have continued if I and a friend hadn't decided to take a seat at their table and make a toast to manners and how we could happily instruct them on what was necessary to be in public. They calmed down after that for a while. But it was too late. I now have to give a review based only off of food and those patrons who forget that there are other people at the public establishments. Hey all, Thanx for reading and keep drinking! And Johnny's I hope you felt no back lash from that. But perhaps we should tighten what is acceptable behaviour for the sake of the OTHER clients.

I sat at the bar and ordered the gluten-free meat lovers pizza, it was really good for being a gluten-free crust. I would highly recommend it. The waitress/bartender was very friendly in her recommendations. Lots of bros in this place!

I attended a bachelorette party dinner at Verbena recently and it was a fun excuse to check this…read moreplace out since it's been on my radar for quite some time. The first thing to note here is that Verbena is located inside the hotel at Meadowbrook and it's gorgeous. The hotel is picturesque, and the restaurant is no different. It's elegant, vibey in an upscale way, and has that kind of ambiance that makes you feel like it's worth it to spend a little money here - which spoiler alert- you will! Before dinner I do as I always do and surveyed the menu from home to see what sounds good and when I got there I stuck with my choices and ordered two drinks - one that had a tiki flair, and after their spin on an old fashioned. For dinner I chose their cauliflower entree. We will start with the drinks: no notes. I forget the names of what I had but the tiki inspired one had rum and it was honestly one of the better rum drinks I've had in some time. It was sweet but not overpowering and the rum was perfectly complimented. It was so good I had to switch drinks for round two because I knew I'd drink another one of these too fast! Thir riff on an old fashioned was excellent as well. These are honestly my barometer for a bartender as I make them at home all the time and I enjoy seeing how others take a classic and elevate it at a place like this. I knew it would be good when they asked if I wanted rye or bourbon, which was a thoughtful question. I went with bourbon and it was also excellent. Not too sweet and perfectly sippable. Now I'm going to get into why I'm rating it 4/5 and not 5/5 because it honestly could be 5/5. To be fair to Verbena I think this could be just due to the group I was with so I'll return sometime and see if I feel differently, but here is my one critique: the price point and the entree size. I eat out at nice places a fair amount and while I don't make it a regular occurance to pay $30+ for an entree, I do when I got out and I was planning on dropping some money here. What wasn't clear to me is that at dinner I think the set up here is meant for you to order a salad and then an entree to make a full meal. Or pair an entree with one of their other small plates to begin, sort of like Farina. The difference is when I went to Farina they were very clear about this at the start so our whole table all ordered a starter and then an entree and so forth - yes it was very pricey, but our expectations were set from the start. Now, this might have happened if it wasn't for our group. I was with a younger crowd and they all had been before and they all ordered salads as entrees - I'm not 25 anymore and not afraid to order a real meal (enter face palm here) so I ordered a standard entree and I expected at the price point (especially in the 'burbs) to be a more standard entree size. The cauliflower steak was honestly DIVINE - the flavors were perfect and loved every bite, but it was at the end of the day a $30 singular piece of cauliflower with some sauce and while it was great, I left hungry and even texted my husband that after spending around 80 dollars here I was going to probably pick up taco bell after this party was over. Now, again I'm going to reiterate that I was here with a group and the server did an excellent job of trying to meet everyone where they were at and I am probably 10 years older than most at the table so my expectations and life experience is just different. Verbena is an awesome spot and on my way home I was thinking about how I need to return for a happy hour to get more of those great drinks and try it out again. the tl;dr of this is if you go for dinner I'd order a salad and and entree - or ask them about how to best set up your meal. Plan to spend some money, and have fun. It's a really elegant spot in JOCO.

Make reservations because they had a two hour wait for walk-ins. For appetizers we shared their burnt ends. Tender and sauced perfectly. For dinner we shared a wedge salad, their mashed potatoes, asparagus (a must!), and their tomahawk steak! Instead of doing three separate steaks we did the one and it was a perfect size for all of us to share! The steak was tender and well seasoned, mashed potatoes creamy, and the asparagus was prepared in a way we hadn't had before - highly recommend! We also had their dessert lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie! Really really good! Wine options: amazing! Bourbon options: classy! We couldn't give it five stars for two main reason: 1. We made a reservation for 7pm, arrived and check in at 6:50 and still had to wait just over 30 minutes to be seated. We learned that walk-ins had been seated ahead of us so we needed to wait for some tables to leave before we could be seated. This was a bit surprising. We understand waiting a few minutes, but 30 min is not okay. 2. The sweet server assisting us for dinner was in training and we learned from her "trainer" that she wouldn't be getting any of the tips from our dinner. Additionally, the "trainer" came over around 830 to tell us that although it was only three of us that gratuity is automatically included. Very odd that we were told these things during our meal. The server being trained should absolutely get a portion of the tips - we hope restaurant management reconsiders their policy on this especially since we hardly saw her "trainer". We normally tip over the 20% but because the trainer didn't get any of our tips, we opted to not increase the tip that was automatically charged to us. All in all really classy restaurant and food was delicious! We'll be back for sure!

The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.

We were pretty close to the door, which wasn't ideal with how cold it was. They have a sort of vestibule outside but it's not fully enclosed so it does almost nothing to improve the blast of cold air when the door opens. I should preface this review with I liked the food but the service was a bit slow, however, I know fine dining service is a bit more leisurely, so I may be overly harsh on that front. Anyway, once we were seated, water came out right away. We then waited a while for the waiter to get our drink orders so I ordered the empanadas with our drinks (we were hungry). Empanadas came out quickly and were very tasty. Drinks were not quite as quick but were also very tasty. Then we waited a while for the waiter to come back to order our entrees. And at that point, I asked if we could have some bread. I saw a bunch of tables with bread but I think our waiter maybe forgot because most folks in his section didn't seem to have it. When that came out, I wanted to laugh. 2 small pieces of focaccia and a small piece of the other kind. 3 pieces of bread does not a bread basket make. He did offer to bring more but my boyfriend declined (What?!, but I didn't contradict him) so I can't fully complain about that. Once our mains came out, my complaints about the slower service and small bread portion were erased because good heavens the short rib was INCREDIBLE. So melt in your mouth and flavorful. Definitely some of the best short ribs I've had in my life. My boyfriend had some kind of dish with a butternut squash puree, mushrooms and cauliflower. His was very good too but perhaps a bit gravy with the salt. We did get our order for dessert in pretty quick and that was a great end to the meal. The passionfruit puree made it really bright tasting. TL;DR: really delicious food (4.5-4.75) but service pacing, and the blasts of cold air made it a 4. We would go back but I had a gift card, and I'm not sure I would have been as happy with the meal if we'd paid full price, if that makes sense.

A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor.
