Ok, so I never write reviews but Ariel of Avalanche Air did such great repair work for my grandparents so I felt inclined to write a review. My grandparents are very old and hardly speak any english. They needed their ac system repaired so I turned to yelp and decided to go with Ariel because he was available to come that same day whereas other local companies were booked until the following week or so. Ariel was very kind to my grandparents and tried his best to explain in spanish, the repair work that needed to be done. He was very honest and his rates were reasonable. Last winter, after living in our home for ~ 10 years, we could no longer handle the chills of winter the blistering heat of summer. Mind you, we had tried to resolve our heating and AC issues with numerous Heating and AC companies. To our dismay, all had only partially addressed the issues we faced in a very temporary manner, forcing us to re-address the problems every few years. ...and then the stars aligned, the clouds disbursed and we discovered Avalanche Air. I met Ariel of Avalanche Air, who took time to assess our concerns and formulated a multi-pronged approach to address each issue. Our primary issues were categorized as: (1) East facing rooms were very warm in the morning and cool in the evening, (2) West facing rooms, including our master bedroom would swelter in the afternoon and continue throughout the evening hours & (3) our bottom floor maintained an ideal temperature, unlike the second floor (an adjustment to address the upper floor adversely affected the lower)...no fun! Ariel returned with a detailed assessment. He proposed and installed a new heater (suspended in the attic to minimize vibration to the second floor), a three-zone house system with automated dampers (w/ capability to direct the amount of heat or A/C to any of the three zones) and a new condensing unit; all with an approach to managing house temperature without enduring unmanageable and unpredictable utility expenses. Everything sounded too good to be true; a consultative approach to understand and address our concerns, very competitive pricing with an estimated time window to complete the work. We signed up with Avalanche and were very pleased with the results. The installation team was extremely professional; they arrived on time daily, cleaned up all debris, were very accommodating with our schedule and truly respected our property. We have a large commerical space that is very unique. The building is over 100 years old, with very high ceilings. The installation of a new ventillation system required some creativity as well as working on a boom lift. We were very pleased that we used Avalanche Air for this job. Their price was good and they delivered exactly when they said they would. Jonathan and Ariel of Avalanche Air, as well as all of their employees who worked on the job, did not bat an eye at the challenges our space presented. They were ready to work with the problems and uncertainties the job presented, and extremely helfpul with our questions. First of all, I have to say that I found and finally chose Avalanche Air based on the Yelp reviews. I must say, it was the right decision. I had to redo my 20 year old flat roof and for that all the extensive AC ducting (3 zones) plus the 5ton gas/electric package unit had to be removed (plus lots of electrical conduits and gas pipes) for the roofers to do their job. First of all, Avalanche Air gave me a very competitive estimate which they kept all the way to the end without trying to inflate the cost despite a lot of extra work and material they provided beyond what was expected. That is a huge plus. The crew did a very good job, on time, very friendly and very professional. This was a very tricky job because everything had to be removed first and then after the roof was done, they had to put all the ducting back together. I also had to replace the old rusty 5 ton unit with a new one. Due to some concern with the wood structure of the roof that was revealed during the roof job, they decided to place the new 5ton unit a few feet to the side. This caused a lot of the original ducts not to fit anymore and they had to replace a big portion with new ones (without charging extra!). The communication with Ariel and his crew was great all the way to the final fine tuning. Very responsive, friendly and helpful during the entire roof project (which was very challenging to coordinate between the AC, the roofers and the electrician). I'm very satisfied and highly recommend Avalanche Air. read more

Based on positive Yelp reviews I called the business today at 4:25 PM when my central air had stopped working. The person who answered the phone said she would check with technicians on scheduling service. I didn't hear from her and called back 25 min later and she said she was setting it up and would call me back. It's now an hour later, too late to call anyone else, and I never received a call back (or service visit). Their phone rolls over to voicemail. Really unprofessional way to run a business: Leave a prospective client hanging, without AC, and without even a courtesy call to say you won't be able to do the service. read more

What a rip off!!!!!!! Don't believe a word they say. They gave a estimate of $5900 to replace our furnance and for about $80.00 I fixed it myself. Our central heat & air is only 6 years old and Avalanche Air said it needed to be replaced. They found numerous so called "problems" and said it would not work properly as is. Everything needed to come out and all new items installed. I had another heating & air company stop by and check it out. They were honest with me and found the real reasons it wasn't working. Furnance vent was plugged off, rain cap was closing off the vent and that turned off the unit. Also a sheet metal panel wasn't fitted correctly and needed to be replaced. Total cost was $80.00 and it works fine now. It was odd Avalanche Air found so many problems with a fairly new unit and I didn't understand why EVERYTHING had to be replaced. They never found the REAL problem (rain cap) and never said we could replace the sheet metal panel. Because I know something about HVAC systems and how it works I saved a ton of money. After they refused to answer my questions and parts & labor and their hourly labor rate, I knew something was up. Always ASK questions and if they refuse to answer, look elsewhere. read more

We recently bought a house with no air conditioning and a rental unit with a non-working HVAC. After buying a house, we were looking for reasonable rates for quality work. We found that with Avalanche Air. They worked efficiently and their pricing beat the quotes from their competitors. Ariel came out to our house and provided us with a number of options in setting up a cooling and heating system for the main house and gave us a quote for replacing the HVAC unit for the rental property. Once we decided on what we wanted done, Avalanche Air quickly got to work. They always showed up at the scheduled times, never left a mess, and finished the job sooner than expected. To accommodate the new system, we had to have some minor electrical work completed. Ariel recommended an electrician who was able to come out the next day and do the work for a very fair price. A/C died in the middle of a heatwave and this was the only place that would come out within two weeks. That should have been a clue that they weren't up to the job. Came out, installed a new A/C unit, but totally screwed up the refrigerant work. So no cold air. Called back to say it wasn't working properly. The response...your 5 ton unit isn't big enough. That's right....5 ton unit...biggest residential sized A/C you can buy, in a 2000 sq ft house, that he recommended isn't big enough. Wouldn't even take a look. So we called someone else who came out, took one look at the work and told us how shoddy it was, fixed it properly and guess what - A/C works great and has for several years now. read more

The Air Conditioning in our Cigar Shop broke down this summer and we needed it fixed ASAP and I do mean ASAP, since it was over 100 degrees outside and our cigars were in danger. After calling over six different companies trying to get someone to come out the same day, my hope was running low. Finally I came across Avalanche Air. When I called I explained them our situation and stressed the urgency of someone coming right away. The receptionist told me that she will have someone come out that day, but she needs to call me back with the exact time. Fifteen minutes later she called me and gave me the name of the technician and the time that he is going to arrive. When the guy arrived I was not even sure if he would really be able to do anything since the unit is so old and the company that fixed it a month before told us that they can't do anything with it and if we want them to come out it would have to be for replacement of the unit or otherwise they won't come. I am not sure what exactly the technician from Avalanche Air did, but after an hour and a half of his magic our air was back on and is still working many months later. We used Avalanche Air for installing a central heating and AC unit, first when we moved to our house a few years ago and then again more recently during a remodel. When Ariel, the owner, first came out to our house, he took the time to patiently explain several different options at different price points, and clearly walked us through the advantages and disadvantages of each option. He never put any pressure on us, and was genuinely interested in finding the most cost effective solution for our needs. We got several bids and his prices were always competitive. His workers were always professional, efficient, and extremely considerate of our home (i.e. taking shoes off if we asked, cleaning up afterwards, etc. Finally, Ariel repeatedly came out to follow up and fix a few issues (including cleaning up after other subcontractors) without charge. We have recommended Avalanche several times to our friends and will continue to do so in the future. read more
