My house was screaming at me for months now, and today I decided to finally do something about it ( mostly because ChatGPT told me it was an emergency and my house was at risk of burning down) so I diligently researched HVAC people and I am so lucky I found Upright Construction and HVAC. I called Ernest and explained that my house was "screaming at me" he was rightfully confused "screaming?" He said ... "yes screaming, I have no idea how else to describe it" it was already 8pm and without a beat he said "I'll be there in 15 minutes" and he was. And of course when he arrived the noise was eerily quiet, like the most quiet this house has ever been. No screaming, scratching or howling coming from the roof. That said he set right up and was on top of my house in no time. As I paced the front yard, biting my nails, the silence was louder than the noise could ever be. All I kept thinking was "this is going to cost 20 grand." As I stared at the top of my little valley starter (and finish) home, the beam from his headlamp would splash toward the front yard. And then he said something to me no contractor, electrician or plumber has ever said to me "it's working fine, nothing is wrong". I yelled back "there's no way" not that I WANTED something wrong with it. But my goodness I wanted the noise to stop. And again, it was silent the whole time Ernest was here. How? So he checked again and for longer and found nothing wrong. I'm happy of course but there is still a huge problem that we haven't solved. I asked him what else it could be and he said "do you have an attic fan?" And I said confidently "I don't know" ... without hesitation "let's go see" and what came next was just superhero level ... when I figured out how to get to the attic (through the hall closet) I had no idea how anyone could actually get up there. There were shelves that I couldn't take out and all my towels that I could, I said "don't worry about it" because how could I expect him to go up there. But he was determined. He scaled the shelves like Spider-Man and disappeared into the ceiling. Next thing you know he's Santa Claus-ing his way back down. Covered in insulation he said "it's your attic fan, it's bad" ok we have a problem we can fix! He gave me a very fair estimate and we found the best day to get it done. As an update, we ended up still having to replace the hvac since another more expensive part ended up broken. They quote us $4000 lower than other hvac companies, same hvac model, and replaced it quickly for us. Also waived the initial fix costs of $450 They also re-visited us a few times when we had issues with airflow and hvac settings, and now it's working flawlessly. My air-conditioner stopped working on the hottest day of the year in August. I called so many places and they weren't there on a Saturday. I figured I'd have to wait till Monday but after I came home Saturday night from a movie, I took a chance and asked ChatGPT for a reference of somebody that might be open on the weekend. I also found out he's a Builder so he has more than enough knowledge, but he did work as an air-conditioning repairman for 25 years. He came the next day on a Sunday. No extra charge, and discovered that the capacitor that was installed by another company just 4 months ago was the absolute wrong size and almost completely burned out the compressor.
