I've been to Catalina solo, traveling alone as a woman I'm happy to report: I felt very safe and comfortable in the Biergarten. Bathrooms are in the back, in some of those fancy portable toilets (including a handicap ramped stall), so you don't have the leave the Gartën for anything. The owner Michael is so friendly and will remember the regulars from the main land (thanks for calling me a Legend haha), and shout out to Jack who works there too for his fun and kind energy.

My wife and I were in Avalon on a port day from our cruise ship, and decided to get some ice cream…read morebefore heading back to our tender to take us back. My wife had noticed the Sailor's Delight shop earlier in the morning, so we decided to stop in. It was really, really good. My family lived in Wisconsin for more than 20 years, most of them in the Madison area. During that time we got to really love a local favorite ice cream brand: Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. It's definitely a premium brand and thought it was local to the Midwest only. Well...once we entered Sailor's Delight, signs proudly proclaimed that they served Chocolate Shoppe, shipped directly from the plant in Madison. This made my wife immediately look for her favorite flavor: Zanzibar. It's a chocolate ice cream, blending 3 types of cocoa, to produce a very rich but bingeable ice cream. One scoop was priced at $7.50 in a cup, with each additional scoop being $2.25. So I added one of my favorite flavors, mint chocolate chip, to pay for a two scooper. And in Wisconsin tradition, one scoop really means two...our attendant took a regular size ice cream scoop and plunged it in each container to grab two scoops of each. We ate it outside. The ice cream was as good as I remember, and alternating between mint chocolate chip and the Zanzibar was marvelous. We sat down on the edge of the fountain right outside, doing a little people watching while enjoying the weather. It makes me smile thinking about it. This place is gold!!!!…read more Come all sweet tooth's! If you like candy and treats, you will definitely find something you like here. I found some of my favorites at Seaside Sweets. They have red, purple and black licorice. Yum! I got a package of black licorice. But purple was also in my hand. We grabbed a bunch of Zots and ropes. I mean we had to hold back from not buying everything in the store lol The right side had more American candies and the left side had Mexican candies. I can't handle the Mexican candies so I stuck with the non-spicy ones on the American side lol Good and plenty and nerds. Heck yes! Oh and they have some tasty looking lollipops, but we had our hands full already. We left happy though. The candy we bought was fresh and tasted good. We would come back again for sweets.
