Been going to Avalon Nail Spa lately. Tin was my nail technician this time. I'm writing the review because this experience was seamless. This was the first time I was seated immediately and serviced. Tin is professional, engaging and friendly. He respected my requests for the length and shape of my nails which I appreciated and he was accommodating as I searched for the right nail shade. I was extremely pleased with how he cared for my nails and polished them (yes polish...unfortunately, not all technicians are good at polishing). I will request him as often as I can. The spa's atmosphere is always relaxing and everyone is friendly. There's plenty of parking too. I recommend this nail salon for sure! read more

I will never step foot in Avalon Nails & Spa again, and I highly encourage anyone considering it to think twice before wasting their time and money here. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted and asked what I wanted. I told them I was looking for a pedicure, and they had me sign in and wait. Since it was my first time, I asked for a price list--simple, right? Instead of transparency, they gave me the runaround, pulling prices out of thin air. I requested a Classic Pedicure for $37, expecting to receive exactly what was listed. After my service was over, I was suddenly hit with an additional $20 charge for a gel pedicure, which was never mentioned to me--not when I was picking out my color, not before they started, not at any point. I never received any of the actual gel pedicure services like the hot wax or extended massage, just a basic pedicure with gel polish. So why was I charged for a full gel pedicure when I only received a Classic Pedicure? To make matters worse, I started talking to other customers sitting up front, and they confirmed that every time they come, the prices are different. They wouldn't even let me hold onto the price list--probably because they keep changing the numbers to overcharge people. And let's talk about Emily--rude is an understatement! Horrible, would not spend your money here. I got my nails done on August 22nd, and I'm extremely disappointed. First off, I paid $130 for a French full set with just 2 gems. This is the most I've ever paid for this set; I usually get French tips with about 4 gems and only pay around $110 at most and they last until I need a fill in without any breaking. Then, 10 days later, 2 nails cracked so easily, like paper. Now it's just 2 weeks in, and almost all my nails are loose, plus I've lost 2 more. My nails normally last 3-4 weeks before I even need a fill, so there's no reason they should be breaking this fast. When I went back to get them fixed, they tried to charge me $20 just to repair 2 nails. I didn't even want them fixed at that point I told them to just take them off. That is honestly so ridiculous. I guess the manager came and she's like "yeah it's been two weeks so time for a fill" like no it was 10 days into the set when two nails broke, I drove 30 mins to come back on day 12 to get 2 nails fixed. Like that is not acceptable for 2 nails to be breaking after 10 days. I would never go back here. The nails are way too expensive to be breaking this easily. read more

Instead of owning their mistake, they got defensive and confrontational when I returned to have it fixed. The service from the owners here is terrible. I have been coming here for about 2 years seeing Moon (nail tech) & Lori (pedicure) very nice young girls, I only came back because of the coupons they offer and those girls. However, moon doesn't work as much anymore so I never see her for my nail and I have been having many problems since. My last visit 2 weeks ago, the nail tech in seat 3 just proceeded to put gel on my nails for my fill in even though I had sns acrylic. However, once I was told to sit at station 4 I realize I'm waiting longer than normal for the nail tech to come out. So I ask the owners that are sitting one seat over and see me sitting here alone in this EMPTY SALON ON A MONDAY & I ask where's the nail tech, these ppl tell me she's off today. I look confused bc I had just seen here while getting my toes done. And the guy that did my pedicure told me to sit in her chair BC OBVIOUSLY SHES HERE! The nail tech left. I have been coming to this nail salon since I moved to Charlotte in October of 2024 and for the last two visits my nail breaks within the first week. As of recently the nail technician complained that my nail breaks are due to my acrylic being old. But not once has anyone stated that during my nail appointment that I need to get my acrylic replaced, it was only stated during the repair visit that it needs to be replaced. I am not a nail expert so this is something that should be expressed during my initial appointment especially when you are paying $60+ for a short set. After being a client for almost two years I think it's time for a review. I've been wearing acrylics for the past 12 years and by far this is my go to salon in Charlotte. I can trust that everyone is great, will do their best as well as provide quality service. It does get busy so don't expect to be sat immediately especially being that the salon is located by the hospital and UNCC. They offer drinks, small talk and quality service. If you're looking to be rushed I recommend the mall, next to food lion or any other salon. To come in and expect another person to be able to copy a design someone else did, feels a little big headed so I recommend being nice to whomever helps you. I have come in with the expectation of a specific design and upon conversation they are more than willing to place you with a tech who can make it happen. You'll have to wait. The nail salon is a moment to check out and do self care. Not a moment to analyze someone else's work to then tell them what they are valued at. You wouldn't do it to a massage therapist or to your hairstylist so you shouldn't do it to your technicians. The owner and her staff are phenomenal time after time. I'm not posting my toes because no... but even my pedicures have been fantastic. The place has a strong chemical smell which usually equates to having poor ventilation. The place looks updated and pristine but the chemical smell is so strong, if not for my N95 mask I would have ran outta there. (Smelling that odor long term can have effects on your mind & body. Usually I have no problems with maintaining my nails but since I had been on the road for some time, figured why not get some pampering. As Tom Haverford says, "Treat yo' self" and so I surfed for a local option with no wait. Surfing local shop reviews brought me to Avalon. Due to proximity, rave reviews and ability to service me at a moment's notice. Pro tip, Google revealed a 20% off coupon. I was particularly interested in a special pedicure available called "Jelly pedicure." Here's the synopsis: "Need a burst of hydration for dry and tired skin. The bits of Jelly work as a natural exfoliate while plant oil deeply moisturizes the skin. The highlight of this experience is soaking in this gelatinous foot bath and massaging Jelly Pedi into the skin and muscles, stimulating senses that have Never been touched before, replenish with hot towel wrap, paraffin treatment, and relaxing massage cream." I know.. that seems like a lot. But for the cost, well worth it. For my visit I was serviced by a technician named Hanah. She suggested the "volcano spa pedicure" instead. She said it was organic. Hanah trimmed the edges, used that cheese grater thingy, pulled and pruned my feet back to perfection. I don't have these services performed often so I am not the most informed in this arena. But with the combination of collagen creams, lotions, scrubs and the pedicure. Wow, my feet are so smooth. If this were a local shop I would try to get this done yearly. For those looking for an extra special gift for your significant other, get a gift card. But I recommend using a mask whenever seated for services. That chemical smell is too strong. read more

Dont even waste your time. Overpriced, bad quality, and bad service. Got multiple sets here and not one lasted the guaranteed five days. Got a set done Sunday by Thursday multiple nails were lifting and coming off. He did not push my cuticles back when doing my nails so they looked old and grown out within days. When I went to get them fixed, they refused to do it, saying it was normal, and my nails just grew. They said to get your cuticles pushed back prior to the nails being put on you have to ask and pay for a manicure. Never heard of a salon not pushing back cuticles. I ended up just having to take the whole set off because they looked so bad. Lasted three days. read more

Came by here yesterday to make an unusual appt for 5 of us. It was easy. The employees are so sweet. At first I didn't see any nail polish to choose from but they have a menu with all the colors that you can choose from. They give it to you after you sit down. Great service and really chill spot. My first visit to Avalon was great! I thought I finally found a place that did quality nails, well that was short lived. The second time I went to Avalon I was greatly disappointed. I asked me a fill in, gel polish, mani/pedicure. Several things went wrong. During the pedicure I wanted a basic pedi, the guy that was going my toes kept pushing me to get a deluxe pedicure. After persistence on his part I finally caved in a got the deluxe thinking the message would be better/ scrubbing and I was wrong, my nail polish also did not turn out great. Now moving to the real problem I had. Once I got seated for my manicure and fill-in, I told the nail tech SEVERAL times that I wanted a manicure. To my knowledge a manicure comes with cuticle cut, filing, and hand massage. The guy barely cut my cuticles, filled my nails in very lopsided, and didn't follow the design I should him. I was extremely upset by the end of the appointment and upon closer inspection of my nails, they were not painted correctly, nor filled correctly and clumpy. The next visit the nail tech took my old acrylics off and cut my real nail and my nail started bleeding. I am very satisfied with the quality of service from this nail shop. I visit Charlotte very often and was looking for a nail shop for the times I am in town. I called ahead and made an appointment for Tyler to get a full set and pedicure. Once I arrived there, I was helped right away. I wanted my nails to be ombré and coffin shape. Tyler did an AMAZING job. I love the way my nails came out. Even when I messed up my nails, he fixed it right away. He also did a good job in my pedicure as well. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they did my nails before my pedicure. I would have preferred they did my pedicure first so that my toes could dry (since I get regular polish on my toes) while my nails were getting done. Both of us left with bleeding cuticles and messy polish left all over our fingers and hands. My tech, saw my blood and poured alcohol all over it then proceeded to put on gloves. My friends tech, did not wear gloves even after coming in contact with her bleeding cuticles and did not offer any assistance in cleaning it. The inside of the salon is nice, it seems like it was remodeled recently. The nail techs were friendly and did a great job on my pedicure and full set. The main issue that I have is the fact that the chemical smell in the salon is SO strong. It wasn't super awful because I had on a mask but I could still smell it through my mask. Also, I told my nail tech that I wanted an acrylic full set and she kept trying to convince me to get SNS.. I told her the acrylic was fine but she literally wouldn't leave the issue alone. I understand trying to upsell but ultimately you have to respect what the customer wants. I only stopped by this salon because my regular nail shop is closed on Sunday and I wanted to get my nails done, but in the future I think I'll stick with my usual spot. read more

The owner of this salon is very rude. She displays a disdain for clients as if we are somehow an inconvenience to the staff who provide services that we pay for. If you are not in the "business" of serving clients and performing duties at client request, you are in the wrong profession. This place literally nickel and dimes for everything no matter how small or simple the request or how much you are already spending. I came in for an acrylic fill in and deluxe spa pedicure. I specifically asked for a French manicure with regular polish and a silver line at the base of the French tips...simple enough, no design, no stones. The girl that did my pedicure asked if I wanted gel for the French tips. To which I answered NO I DO NOT, I previously stated my request for regular polish because they charge an additional $20 just for gel polish (I'm not paying $20 extra for you NOT to even polish my entire toe. She asked again and persisted by saying gel is better. I know what gel polish is and how it works, I walked in with gel polish and explained that because I was getting French tips, there was no need for gel. When I reminded her that I wanted the silver line along with the French tip, I was told that I could not get that and she would not/could not do the line for me because I refused to get gel polish. WTH? I'm paying for a service to get what I want and she was told by the Owner to decline because I didn't pay extra for gel polish which has absolutely nothing to do with any design. You can't tell me how/what to put on my nails or toes based on what you want me to pay extra for. Needless to say, I was not satisfied nor did I like the service or atmosphere and I'll never return to this place. Good luck to the rest of you who give them your hard earned money.
