This salon exceeds expectations every time... The Aveda experience is something I think everyone should try at least once. One of my favorite things about this salon is that they incorporate aromatherapy into their products and haircuts. I've been getting my haircut here for about 3 years now but within the last year Sara G started cutting my hair because my previous hair stylist had moved. Sara G has completely changed my hair game for the better! After my first haircut with her I noticed a huge difference in my hair and the way it grows out and so many of my friends noticed as well. I was always pleased by Aveda & their products but within the last year I have been more than satisfied. I am VERY particular about my hair and that's one of the reasons why I love Sara G because she listens really well & knows what she's talking about. She pays attention to detail & preforms accordingly. I explained to her that I don't like using hair products for styling such as moose, gel and hairspray.... told her that I wish my hair could grow out in the direction where all of these products weren't needed, I wanted to achieve a more natural look and she gave me exactly what I had imagined. Before Sara, I had no choice but to use moose and hairspray to have my hair looking styled but after she started to cut my hair I no longer need any of these products. Finally, my hair grows out in the direction I want it too and it has this great natural effortless look. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SARA G to any man or woman who is looking to up their hair game! She listens extremely well, and most importantly delivers every time. I finally found a fantastic stylist! I saw Sara today for the first time for a haircut. Not only is she very nice, she really knows her stuff. I was greeted with delicious hot herbal tea and Sara gave me an aromatherapy scalp massage before the wash/condition. My cut was basically a trim but she asked me lots of questions to get it just right and spent a lot of time on the cut. I honestly went in looking pretty scrubby, but came out looking very polished. I talked to Sara about color and she suggested highlights so looking forward to seeing her next time for color too. I felt very pampered and couldn't be happier. read more

Richard is amazing! He is definitely the best and you can really trust him. It's really hard for me to find someone that I can trust to do my hair because I have had so many bad experiences and I am very pick but, Richard is my new go-to. He totally understood exactly what I wanted and did a wonderful job of coloring my hair. However, he does take multiple clients at once and has the help of his assistants to manage everything but that didn't bother me and he still was checking in on all of his clients regularly and is a good multi-tasker. Everyone else there was a repeat client so, that was definitely a good sign. Also, I got a nice hand-massage while I was waiting and they also do your makeup which is all complimentary! I felt like I was really being taken care of well. I saw some people say how it is really expensive to go see Richard but, I think his prices are pretty standard and not overly-expensive at all especially compared to most places in OC and he does such a great job. I went to this salon for the first time back in August right before returning to school, because I had gotten my hair done somewhere else the week before and really disliked how it turned out. I saw Maria Gomez and she was so patient with me as I tried to explain what I wanted. I got full highlights and a trim and left feeling so happy about my hair! It was bright blonde and much healthier! Since then my hair has grown out wonderfully. It looks natural and has stayed healthy thanks to some Aveda products she recommended. this review is for hair color, not cut. my regular hairdresser does a great job cutting and coloring my hair, which has been in need of a new color job for months. a few months ago, i happened to be in the aveda store, and had to admire the salesgirl's hair. she told me she had it done in the aveda salon at south coast. i semi-regularly shop at aveda and have their pure privilege cards. it turns out i had accrued enough points to get a gift certificate for one of their salons. normally, i would go to my regular hairdresser, but i was impressed by the salesgirl's hair and had the certificate and thought why not try something new. i called ahead and asked about pricing. generally, their hair color services run between $100-150, which seems reasonable for color. i made my appt and was excited. the day of the appt, i was running late and ended up leaving my gift card at home and mentioned this to the guy at the counter who was extremely nice and said that he would find out about taking my card information, and allow me to bring back the certificate the next day. he said he would take care of it. the salon was small, but seemed nice. the stylist--karen was friendly. i discussed with her what i had in mind--that i wanted either gingery red or bright red highlights with the rest a different color. i wanted the color to be classy but with an edge. her opinion was that i should stick to colors closer to my hair color, so i said fine i would do the bright red instead of an orangey red. she brought out some hair samples in different colors. i picked out the brightest red, which she didn't really think was a good idea, but i told her that's what i wanted. she also tried to dissuade me from straying far from my natural hair color for the rest of the color. i settled on a dark purple-y brown. then she mentioned that the red may fade after a month or so, and offered to mix some shampoo with pigment for me that i could use to keep the color vibrant. i had been dyeing my color with fudge, a semi-permanent vegetable dye, and was tired of having to redye it every few weeks. this was why i wanted to get a permanent hair color. i asked if the color was permanent, and she assured me that it was, but the red may not be as bright as it is at first. i was fine with using the special shampoo. after 2.5 hours, i was a bit disappointed that the color was not as bright as i had seen in the hair samples, and the whole thing cost me $200, including the special shampoo, which i then found out that i should use gloves with. all the stylists at the salon gushed at how great the color looked. i thought maybe i was being too picky and decided i would look at it at home or out in the sun and get a second opinion. the next day, i came back to drop off the gift certificate, and talk to the stylist. i let her know that i didn't think the color was as bright as i had wanted. her response was that, well, next time, she could make it brighter. i feel like for what i paid, i should have gotten what we discussed the first time. there is definitely not going to be a next time. it's a week later, and the color has noticeably faded. the thing is, it's not horrible, and my hair wasn't ruined or anything. it just doesn't look like she really did much to it. the whole point with getting this dye job was so it would be less maintenance, and now it seems i have to put on gloves and use this special shampoo, which i'm not sure yet will work, to get the color it was when it was first done, which wasn't that bright to begin with. and aside from the few highlights, the rest of the hair color looks the same as my normal hair color. not sure if she's inexperienced with dark asian hair or just ignored what i said. 1 star for the nice guy who let me bring back the certificate the next day. 1 star for the pleasant enough treatment. read more

Probably the worst hair cut i ever had. I can't even wear my hair down after going there. I have 2 different distinctive length of hair, the top layer hits my shoulders the under part straight across my mid back, not layers at all and totally ridiculous! I went to this salon because i thought the stylist would be well trained. I specifically asked for some one who knew how to cut long wavy hair. i should of clued in when my hair cut / trim took an hour and a half. $70 later i would of ben bette going to super cuts! read more

I have been going to Richard for years. There is absolutely no one in southern California who does color better than Richard. In fact, my daughter flies in from NY to have Richard cut and color her hair. And, she's not the only client who flies in from out of state for Richard. I heard about Richard years ago when he was featured on Good Morning America. Richard has vision like no other and his makeovers are AMAZING!!! He is always two steps ahead of trends and when other hairdressers finally catch the trend, Richard is already on to the next trend. Wherever I go, people comment on my hair and ask who does it. I can't believe the reviews that talk about not being pampered and the salon not meeting Aveda standards. Not only do I get hand massages, complete make-up (including false lashes), they also clean my jewelry and there are plenty of snacks to munch on. I've never experienced this type of service at any other salon. If you want the best, you must book an appointment with Richard. You'll never find his equivalent. read more

I was looking around for an Aveda salon and came across this one. I called and booked an appointment after reading some of the good reviews. It was easy to book an appointment, I just mentioned I wanted to get a cut and color, balayage. The girl on the phone told me to bring in pictures of what I wanted so I did. When I go in for my appointment, I show my stylist what I wanted, a bunch of pictures of chocolate brown balayage. I mentioned I wanted to cover the greys and keep the length. So she's like, "Ok I know exactly what to do, it'll be low maintenance so you wont have to comeback all the time to cover the greys." After she's done coloring my hair, she starts cutting and styling and I start to see the color. Its RED with caramel highlights?!? I hate red hair, I guess I should have specified that? Didn't get what I wanted at all. I was very disappointed but I didn't express that to the stylist, I'm not like that. I said thank you and paid and left. I wont go back though. Worst hair experience of my life. I ended up box dying it dark brown the next day. Waste of money :( read more
