The ambiance in the restaurant was nice. The service was responsive. For the food, many of them were frozen, including the meat options. What I did like about the restaurant was the tablet for self order and the ice cream. Note: I don't have the receipt for this location because a friend paid and I forgot to take a picture of the receipt.

This place is a hidden gem. I didn't know they existed until recently. Their pricing is pretty good given the high quality meat they offer and the wide selection of their self serve bar. Not only is the ambiance nice and cozy, their service is also very good. I really enjoyed their Wagu cuts but all the other meats were actually also pretty good. My kid is very picky on what to eat, and this place has a good selection of other appetizers and dishes that you can order. They also have sushi, milk tea, and ice cream. I got the tonkatsu soup base and it was flavorful. Overall, I had a great time here. I would come back here for birthday celebrations with friends, cause it's just a nice place and easy for gathering.

I'm updating my 4-star review to a 5-star review for a few reasons. Every time I come here, I'm treated wonderfully by Alvin and the rest of the Avenue Shabu staff. They consistently tend to me, and never have I had a dull moment where I needed to flag down a server. To put it simply, every time I dine here, I feel truly valued as a guest. The food has also never let me down and is always high quality. I want to clarify why I originally posted a 4-star review: on my first visit, I ordered their Szechuan broth, which happened to be a bit too salty for my liking, making my meats and veggies overly salty as well. Since then, I've consistently ordered their spicy miso broth, which has the perfect flavor for me and always hits the spot! Following my recent visit, I knew I had to revise my review because this is definitely a 5-star establishment for me -- from the service, to the upscale ambiance, to the quality of the food. The fact that they are dog-friendly and also tend to my fur baby by offering her a water bowl is something I greatly appreciate. Overall, I highly recommend Avenue Shabu to anyone in need of a great dinner option. Support your local businesses!

This place has the most creative broth options such as pho, soondubu, curry, sichuan, and many more. Literally recreated pho with the pho broth since they have the noodles and veggies Their wagyu quality was insane, must try !! i also loved their soju cocktails, each one came with a a different popsicle. service was also rlly good!

I actually heard of this place through Instagram ads and me and my friend tried it for the first time! He got sukiyaki broth. I got tom yum but I didn't like it so they let me switch it out :) the pork bone was better. Also I spilled my WHOLE PLATE OF VEGETABLES ON MY SEAT but they were really nice about it. Service was amazing but I wasn't too keen on their broth. The salad bar is not bad either. Meat quality is not bad for ayce. I like the set up inside and it's really bright! Which I like. And parking is easy too.

One of the better shabu spots I've tried in OC. The meat quality is really good for AYCE, especially the wagyu which was easily my favorite cut. The rib eye and brisket were solid too. I went with the spicy miso broth and really liked it. Good flavor with a nice kick to it. The self-serve bar is stocked with plenty of fresh seafood, veggies, sauces, and extras like lobster balls. They even have sushi rolls, which were surprisingly pretty on point too. The space is big and clean, and service was very attentive throughout the meal. Overall, we really enjoyed it. Good quality meats, plenty of options, and everything you want from an AYCE shabu spot. Would definitely come back.

I love AYCE shabu, even better when it comes with AYCE sushi! Although, I didn't try any of the sushi because I was too full from the shabu and there wasn't any at the time I wanted to grab it. So will be back to try the sushi next time. I came in on a Saturday right before the dinner rush. It looks like dinner rush starts at 6pm-ish. There's indoor and outdoor seating. It was pretty cold outside on the day I went, but the outdoor seating was enclosed so it wasn't cold at all. You can ask to try the broth before choosing the one you want. My favorite was the house tsuyu. The premium menu is worth it if you love wagyu! There's also a sauce bar and self serve rice. Very clean restaurant with a huge selection of seafood, veggies, noodles that you grab on your own. The staff are really good about making their rounds to take your order. Definitely will be back!

This is one of our favorite shabu spots. Wait time is short for our party of 2! They have a decent amount of choices. A plus is that the appetizers are included in the AYCE. There's 2 sets of pricing. We are good with the cheaper option! Higher pricing tier includes sushi & more meat options! Staff is attentive and picks up our empty trays fast! And don't forget your bowl of rice tucked in the far left corner! I would recommend joining the yelp waitlist too! Especially if you have a big group! We come here at least once a month!

Wow, such a clean and well ventilated Shabu spot. Stopped by after watching a movie on Sunday and had a great time. They had a variety of soup choices and absolutely loved that you get your own pot, so you don't have to share (in case you have any allergies). They have the self serve area very well labeled and stocked up. Enjoyed the amount of sauces they have, especially since they give ideas on what to mix.

    AYCE Shabu: Premium Menu

This might be my new favorite AYCE shabu-shabu spot! Located at Bella Terra, my family chose the premium dinner menu for $37 per person, which includes wagyu, ribeye, and sushi. They offer a great variety of broths, and you can even mix flavors. Our favorite was the house tsuyu broth, which had a rich, sukiyaki-style flavor. The self-serve buffet features a wide selection of noodles, vegetables, seafood, dipping sauces, and sushi. There are also appetizers you can order from the tablet, plus a good variety of meats. The meat was tender, the broth was flavorful, and all of the ingredients tasted fresh. We also appreciated how well-stocked the buffet remained throughout our visit. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and organized. For drinks, we tried the fishbowl cocktails (watermelon wave and big jaws) along with a few mocktails. The cocktails were fun and strong, and my mom especially enjoyed her mocktail. Service was amazing! Our waiter was friendly and took the time to explain the broth options to my parents, even offering samples. The staff kept our table clear of empty plates, and service was fast and attentive. We also met the manager, Alvin, who was very kind. The food, service, and atmosphere made it well worth the price!

We came here on a Monday evening for dinner to celebrate a birthday and had the best experience. Sat outside because we had our dog with us but service remained top tier. Staff were very attentive and made us and even our dog feel so welcome. We ordered from the premium menu and let me tell you- you must upgrade!! The Wagyu cuts here beat any other AYCE shabu place I've been to. The marbling is insane and they sliced the meat to perfection where it's not too thick or thin. Literally melts in your mouth. I also appreciate the wide selection of seafood, veggies and sushi rolls that you grab yourself. From the service to the food to the pricing, we were truly blown away. Will definitely be back!

    Jayne N.

Looooong over due review but my go-to hotpot whenever I'm in the area! Bars are always freshly stocked and cleaned every few minutes. Broth is delicious and there's a variety you can pick from. What's even better is that you get your own pot. Highly recommend!

    Nina N.

great place for when you're craving wagyu shabu and sushi!! meat quality was amazing. the options at the buffet bar were solid too--seafood, noodles, veggies, and more. all the broths were yummy; you're able to sample them before choosing! servers were very attentive! restaurant is super clean, loved my experience. parking is pretty easy as well, there's a very big lot nearby

We had an order of Uni, a hand roll with Wagyu and Uni, a soft shelled crab appetizer and the Kiwami roll. Everything was so good. They obviously use high quality fish and ingredients. The server was proud that their Uni is Japanese Uni which is of higher quality than many other sources. The employees were very friendly. My hope is that management can use this as constructive feedback to fix some obvious quality control and service issues. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences I've had in the past couple of years. For $22 total ($10 for the standard Tuna Roll and $12 for the standard Eel Roll, not a dragon roll which was I think close to $20 or over), the baseline quality and service just weren't there: * Portions & Value: Both rolls were cut into 5 pieces instead of the standard 8. Paying $22 for a grand total of 10 skimpy pieces is a tough sell on value alone, but the assembly made it worse. The rolls were haphazardly made, falling apart on the plate, and stuffed with minimal fish filling. * Freshness: The fish did not taste fresh and had a strange, off flavor to it--possibly an inventory turnover issue. Freshness is everything at a sushi bar, and having to worry about food safety after a meal is never a good sign. * Kitchen Execution: The $12 Eel roll arrived completely dry without any sauce. The server brought over teriyaki sauce when I had 2 pieces left as if they forgot to put it on. So I drenched the sushi in the sauce to hopefully cover the flavor only to realize he gave me teriyaki sauce for a rice bowl instead of standard unagi/eel sauce. * Management Response: When I brought up to the manager that the eel roll really was not good, she walked back to the kitchen, came back, and simply said, I spoke with the chef and he said it was normal. Bottom Line: Errors happen in restaurants, but brushing off customer feedback, using odd sauce substitutions, and serving loose, dry rolls with questionable fish quality shows a serious need for retraining. Hopefully, management takes a closer look at what's coming out of that kitchen. Look elsewhere in OC for sushi

Great tasting broth without being too salty. Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll was excellent. Had this type of roll at other places, but the one here just tasted more vibrant. Very refreshing with a good amount of spiciness. Akuma Roll was good but was different than I expected. Based on the name I thought it would have a more menacing presentation with a super spicy kick to it, but it was rather tame and too bright in presentation. It has 4 types of fish, avocado, spicy mayo, soy mustard, truffle ponzu sauce, and soy paper. Service seemed efficient as we got our food pretty quickly, despite being busy. However, it took a while for us to get our check at the end.

I saw this place on instagram and wanted to try it because I was in the area. Mangolada: the presentation of this roll was beautiful but for the taste it really wasn't for me. The "tuna" that it was topped with felt like it was marinated for too long or the flavors were just too strong. It was just a super off balance with the roll, I ended having to eat the roll without the "tuna" but the roll itself was decent just like a regular tuna roll but the fresh mango on top was a great choice, it was perfectly ripe. I really wish I could've enjoyed this roll as a whole. Taiga Roll: this was was overly sour for some reason, the topped fried "scallop" was either marinated with an overly sour sauce or just drizzled with a sauce but it was too much for me. That same sauce was also on the roll and it was just not the best to eat. I feel like I would've really loved this roll if it was paired with a different sauce, because the roll itself tasted like it was very fresh with the spring mix it had. Spicy edamame: my whole order was made through the phone and when I got there it was barely being packaged, so I'm not sure if the dish wasn't made right or if it's better to be eaten right when it comes out but the edamame was honestly dry in a way and was really missing sauce. I felt like it wasn't like a usual spicy edamame I've tried at other places, it wasn't as spicy or buttery. Baked salmon: my boyfriend tried this dish and he rated it a 7/10. It didn't come with spicy mayo that usually comes with it like at other places and the sauce it came with on the side was not a good choice for the roll. He ended up getting one of the other sauces that my rolls came with. Overall, I'm not sure if we stepped out of our comfort zone so maybe that's why we didn't enjoy our experience there or if it just wasn't up our expectations from the hype we saw on instagram.

The restaurant is located in a large plaza with plenty of parking, which made it very convenient. I really liked the ambiance inside. They had photos of many of their dishes displayed all over the walls, which made it easy to see what they offered and helped us decide what to order. The staff was also very attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout our meal. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Everything we ordered was delicious, and I honestly didn't have a single complaint. One of the highlights was the beef tongue skewer--it was incredibly tender and full of flavor. Every skewer we tried was excellent, and every dish exceeded my expectations. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. I'd definitely come back again, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a solid izakaya experience.

My husband and I have been coming to Niya for about five years, and unfortunately our last three…read morevisits have been extremely disappointing. I want to be clear that we've always enjoyed the food here, although even our most recent meal fell short. The real issue, however, has been the wait times, which have become unreasonable. Today my order was estimated to be ready at 7:15 PM. It is now 8PM and I am still waiting. For context, I placed the order at 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, guests continue to arrive and are being seated. Spending nearly two hours waiting in the lobby for a to-go order--both today and on our last visit--is simply unacceptable. The waitress did offer a free dessert and a gift card, which I declined because, unfortunately, we do not plan on returning. She then offered $20 off the bill. While the gesture was noted, it does little to address the broader issue when the bill is $130 and the wait has been this excessive. If the owners are reading this, please take a serious look at how orders are being managed. If the kitchen cannot handle the volume, online orders should be paused until the system is fixed. This used to be a place we genuinely loved, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. At this point, however, the wait and frustration simply aren't worth it anymore.

Chirashi bowl was delicious- in all my years I haven't had rice this delicious. Presented w care to keep the sashimi cold and the rice hot- quail egg, caviar and two types of roe were unexpected treats. The Toro was fresh and perfectly sea-butter. Gold medal chefs! The coffee ice cream stuffed macron was a perfect end to our night out. I'm going back soon for the blue crab hand roll.

They do this near the end of the month on Mondays. Unfortunately, this is their 3rd to last event as they're going to be doing some restructuring. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Drinks were flowing and the sashimi was non-stop. Nigiri and handrolls were also delicious and I ate until I was close to puking. It was super cool to be able to cut into the fresh fish from Mexico. It's definitely tougher than it looks. I always thought it would be easy to cut like butter, but definitely takes a lot of strength and skill. There were other tasty tuna dishes like the miso soup, salad and crispy tuna steak. I recommend sitting at the bar so you can see Chef Yamasaki cut the fish in the front row seats. It was cool to taste the varying levels of fatness of the fish. The super chutoro was practically butter. They also offered tuna to go at $50/lb. Definitely worth it. The venue is their regular restaurant but with more tables in the middle. A little loud but definitely a fun time. There were 3 birthdays too! We had ice cream mochi for dessert and there were strawberry cakes for the birthday girls. We averaged about $170 after tip and it was worth every penny.

I knew the food was going to be good when I saw the large table of Japanese businessmen visiting on a work trip. I got the handroll set and loved every bite. I am not at all a seafood person but the fish here was so fresh. You could tell the quality was way better than somewhere like ROL. The set is a lot of food though; both my husband and I were stuffed by the end of it. A must if you're looking for high quality sushi in HB.
