Very disappointing experience at Avenue Shabu. We brought our small dog with us, and before we were seated, we specifically asked about bringing the dog. The first staff member told us that dogs were allowed and that we could stay on the patio. However, no one clearly explained that the dog was not allowed to sit on a restaurant chair. We were already in the middle of dinner when another staff member suddenly came over and told us to put our dog on the ground immediately. We were then told that if we could not do so, we needed to leave. We were not trying to ignore the restaurant's rules. If someone had clearly explained the policy when we arrived, we would have followed it. What was upsetting was being allowed to sit down and start our dinner without being told about the restriction, only to be confronted about it in the middle of our meal. We simply paid our bill and left rather than create a problem. I completely understand that restaurants can have rules about pets, and we are happy to respect reasonable rules. But those rules need to be communicated clearly and consistently, especially before customers are seated. The way this situation was handled felt unnecessary and very uncomfortable. Each person gets their own individual pots and they have a variety of broths to choose from. If you're not too sure which broth you want to commit to, they'll give you a small sample to help you choose! You can sample a few broths before picking. Meat slices are thin but good quality, and they come with only 3-4 slices per plate. Service (5/5): multiple servers/bussers constantly roaming and immediately removing empty dishes and asking if you need more meat. We actually don't eat that much meat so maybe one suggestion is to implement a card system where if you want more meat, you can flip it to one side, and if you want to take a break, you can flip it to the other side. They have 3 different AYCE menus, lunch $27.99 premium shabu including special rolls Mon to Fri, basic shabu is only $23.99, $32.99 dinner, and $36.99 on weekends. First my impression as soon as I entered, was dark, not like typical shabu restaurants. A little modern, contemporary style dining vibes w high ceiling, comfy tables. Well organized. Each person can have their own small pot, but they use the electic burner. That is why it takes way more time to boil the meats and veggies compared to gas burner. You need little patience....until boiled. Haha.... I chose premium shabu plus rolls, and basic kombu (seaweed) broth, my hubby got Tonkotz broth. I checked the rolls, not many variety of special rolls but still including salmon, tuna unagi, crunchy rolls. To be honest, not too bad but I like special rolls very fresh made by chef at the sushi bar. I am spoiled a lot for the sushi and rolls. One suggestion for the special roll tray, the rolls were stuck to the tray, I couldn't take it easily, why not put the extra parchment paper to avoid stickiness? Presentation is beautiful thou. Overall, they have lots of veggies including mushrooms, fish cake balls, seafoods, noodles, but the meats.... Very thin, thin....also very limited to choose the beefs, only available brisket, rib eye, blade meat, the other beefs like wagyu for the dinner price. You get more once you pay more.... For the seafoods, looked fresh but look at the tiny mussels???? Dissapointed!!! I couldn't take them to eat....??? They need to select regular big mussels. I loved the squids, they precut finely to make tender so I could taste the tender texture of squids. Really tender, flavorful. Let's talk about the dipping sauces, loved sesame sauce, and basic ponzu. I didn't try other sauces. I always have basic sauce and sesame. There are two Sauce self bars. Convenient.... For appetizers, Kyoza, egg rolls, ddeokbboki, chapchae, some chicken fries... I picked ddeokbboki for the best flavor today. For drinks, we like soju or hot Sake. They don't have hot Sake so we got peach flavor soju. Still great match w shabu. We got Great Deal!! $10.99 soju, the second was $0.99. The sever asked us if we are seniors over 65 years old. I don't know how much discount for the Seniors over 65. Great idea for the seniors. We need to wait few years to get discount....near future haha... Well, if we got there around opening time, we could have enough time to check all the ingredients and relax a lot but a kind of late to start our 1st test lunch after 1:40. My hubby wants to go back to have another good time next time. Great place to eat all different veggies, meats, and rolls if you are special roll lovers. Hopefully we can have big mussels next time. No more tiny mussels.... I'm so glad I stumbled across Avenue Shabu while hunting for an affordable AYCE shabu lunch spot. The high ratings, the big clean dining room, and the great-looking food pulled me in--and honestly, it lived up to the hype. I went for the first time last week and was extra delighted to find out they had a $4-off lunch deal. My total came out to around $20. In this economy, that basically feels like winning the lottery. I'm a Szechuan broth kind of person, so I was thrilled they offer it. The meats were high-quality and thinly sliced--exactly what you want for shabu. Their selection of seafood, veggies, and sauces is huge, which makes the whole experience even better. The staff deserves a shout-out too. They were incredibly attentive--refilling water, topping off broth, checking on meats--pretty much everything before I even had to ask. I honestly was disappointed in this place.. their broth was so bland.. i got their tom yum broth.. even after all the meat and veggies have been cooked in it.. i even added garlic and green onions to flavor my broth more. The sauce selection didn't have that much variety for me to make a good sauce for my meat and veggies. Their sushi was good, but fills you up fast. Service was actually really good. I'd seen Avenue Shabu several times while shopping at Costco in Tera Bella Plaza and finally decided to check it out. First impression: bright, modern, spacious, and very clean. We tried the Premium Dinner $36.99 for weekend dinner 1.5-hour limit. Meats : beef, pork, chicken, lamb are thinly sliced and made to order 3 options per person at a time .Hotpot is individual style with 11 soup bases. Appetizers one time order: Korean japchae, tteokbokki, fried chicken, fries, spring rolls, fried dumplings. Small portions but worth trying all. Self serve bar: 2 sauce stations 13 sauces, noodles, fresh veggies, mushrooms, meatballs, seafood. I like their sushi was fresh and tasty. Selection is smaller than other hotpot spots, but everything is fresh, clean, and well prepared quality . Drinks, alcohol, and ice pops are extra. Came in on a Friday to try the lunch special. I was SO excited because the menu looked stacked with broth options and photos I've seen of the self-service bar looked great too (enoki mushroom!!!). As I sampled their broths, I immediately knew I had to try to Tom Yum. I love Tom Yum, but what I sampled was not what I've ever had. Overall, the broths that I sampled were not up to par with what I've had at other places. I was a bit disappointed. I got the combo I get everywhere else (tonkotsu/spicy miso) and it also ended up not being that great compared to my experience with that combo at other places. The same thing for the sauce. The goma was really thick and the yuzu ponzu didn't quite deliver for me either. For the $24 lunch price point, I felt that the meat was decent. I was happy to see a few things that I couldn't get elsewhere: enoki mushroom, yuuz ponszu, sushi Service was amazing, but please note that it was a weekday and there weren't too many people at the time. The staff were nice and one of them brought us broth samples, which is great since there are so many options on the menu. They were super attentive, and pretty much picked up trays as we put them down. Again, keeping in mind that this was at opening on a weekday.
