Lan Anh Kitchen is located on Westminster and Goldenwest, next to Popeyes and Pizza Hut. It is a small restaurant that serves a variety of dishes from all regions of Viet Nam. They have to-go plates you can pick up of 3 spring rolls each, xoi (Vietnamese sticky rice). They even have a hot deli where you can pick up cheap entrees to bring home and eat with rice. I ordered the BÚN THỊT NƯƠ'NG CHA? GÌO TÔM (grilled pork/shrimp egg roll vermicelli)$16, an order of the grilled pork spring rolls (2) $5.50, and an order of their grilled shrimp spring rolls (2) $6. The waiter was very polite and brought out our food within 10 minutes. The service was great. The owner was wrapping fresh egg rolls in the back. My dish was delicious and packed with so much flavor! The grilled pork had a nice char, and the portion was bigger than at other restaurants. There were three egg rolls in my bowl and plenty of greens. The only thing was the vermicelli noodles tasted a little undercooked. My husband had the pho with beef and meatball. He said it was really good. I had the vermicelli bowl. It was really good. It came with eggrolls, so my husband was happy that we ordered eggrolls as an appetizer and he got to have them all to himself. We also ordered shaken beef with garlic noodles. We only took a couple of bites because we were so full, but it was really good. And we can have it for leftovers tonight. We just had can sodas to drink. They were nice and cold. I go here almost once a week for lunch since it is along the way when I come back from morning volleyball. It's a no-frills mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant inside a small run-down plaza that has a Pizza Hut, Popeyes, THH Sandwich Shop, and laundry mat. Across the street is an auto repair place. Area is not the cleanest but there are enough parking spaces and the restaurant itself is clean and has a variety of typical Vietnamese dishes. My normal order is the Banh Canh Tom Cua (Udon with Shrimp and Crab - $14 +tax), which comes with 3-5 pieces of shrimp and real bits of crab meat (not imitation), along with two mini (quail?) hard boiled eggs and a handful cooked of fatty pork slices and ample udon with a dish of beans sprouts you can add in the piping hot broth. I have also ordered pho tai bo vien (rare steak and beef ball noodle beef broth noodle soup), as well as com tam thit noung tom nuong tau huu ky (broken rice with grilled pork, grilled shrimp, tofu skin shrimp cake), and Cha Ca Thanh Long (grilled white fish with turmeric and dill served on a sizzling skillet tableside along with vermicelli and shrimp paste lime juice dipping sauce). All dishes were decent and reasonably priced, similar to the restaurants in Little Saigon. Service is hit or miss (pending the server), as they sometimes are distracted, but all were nice. Yummy Vietnamese broken rice served in this hole in the wall! We originally came for Paul's Deli, but they were closed. We looked around the plaza and there was THH, Popeyes, and LanAnh. We were very happy we chose LanAnh! We got their Com Tam with grilled pork, fried shrimp cake, and egg loaf. The dish was pretty good! The pork tasted like quality meat and didn't have too much fat. The fried shrimp cake was definitely the highlight. It was crispy and piping hot. The portion was huge, and we had leftovers. Best decision on this day. We all got the broken rice plate where you can choose three items for $14. It comes with a big side salad and also soup. The serving of rice was very generous. I got the pork chop and it was well marinated with nice grill marks on them. The egg cake and pork skin salad were also well made. They offer a Togo bar of various food items. Their sit in menu is pretty comprehensive in terms of Vietnamese fares. I heard the taro dessert was a must try but unfortunately they did not have it on the day I came. Bad service. We came there for lunch work. Took our orders first. At least two other tables came after us and received all their food. Everyone else at our table was served already. Everyone finished eating and our food barely comes out half an hour later. No apologies no explanation. When I didn't tip the guy who took our order AND brought it out late asked if something was wrong!? What's wrong is you don't know anything about service and yet you work in the service industry! Visited LanAnh for the first time this weekend since we've heard raving reviews from our relatives. No wait when our party of 5 arrived at 11:30am. I wasn't expecting to see a small area of the restaurant selling take out food - $7 for a small container, $16 for the large with about 8 different options to choose from. The prices seem a bit steep for the size of the to go containers considering it's the same price of a meal from the menu but the take out orders don't come with rice from what I saw. Pandan Mungbean Drink ($4): I was quite impressed with the drink as it had strong notes of both the pandan and mungbean together in a thicker form drink. Not overly sweet and very refreshing. Com Tam ($14) - The broken rice plate is essentially a "build your own" plate with 3 topping. There are about 7 different options to choose from included in the price, extra toppings for the price listed in the menu. I chose the pork chop, meat loaf, and shrimp. I thought I had ordered the shrimp cake but it came with the shrimp skewer which was fine. Good flavors and decent size for the price! The pork chop was tender and delicious. The rice seemed a tad bit undercooked in some areas but overall, a good meal. Parking lot gets filled amongst the other tenants and some spots are quite tiny. My mom saw this restaurant advertised on the SBTV channel for their famous broken rice dish. I had very little expectation because anything that's been recommended through this channel that we have tried, has been a bust. Well, I was very impressed at the quality, price and portion! We will be coming back here again. Most items are $14. The standard broken rice dish comes with bbq pork, shredded pork and slice of egg loaf. You can add other items for extra charge. The bbq pork had the grilled char aroma, very flavorful, and moist. The shredded pork had more meat tendon. The egg loaf was moist not dry. This entire dish was a winner. I wanted a soup dish and got bun bo hue. I got no spice so that my mom could try but it still came out spicy. I liked it. It has so much meat! We got a pandan mung bean drink. That was too much mung bean and it was thick. Had to wait for the ice to melt to loosen up. Also got durian smoothie. That was delicious and they used real durian fruit. They actually give you the soup, ( hot com tam is inconsisentent on this) and the portion sizes are great compared to the other. Hot com tam feels like they never give you enough rice. Really happy we decided to try this place out. As you know there are at least a thousand Vietnamese restaurants in the area of Little Saigon and all of them are mostly family owned and offer their own unique twist on the Vietnamese cuisine. Apparently this is not only a restaurant but they do a lot of catering and the food on the menu I feel are northern Vietnamese cooking. Which I absolutely love (Pho is a northern dish). Anyhow nothing fancy about the inside is the food that matters and we were not disappointed. My son loved the seafood udon bowl and the broth so much he drank all of the broth. My daughter destroyed her large bowl of pho tai (rare beef). You can tell a lot about a place by what they bring out to the table in terms of the side (veggies that typically accompany the dish). They didn't skimp off the greens. A lot of the restaurants will just give you the basics (mung bean Thai basil limes) but when they bring out the culantro you know it's legit. Anyhow, prices are pretty reasonable especially in this day and age. Just feels better to support a family run business. If you're still ginger afterwards and want a snack later you can go over to the THH banh mi place across the center to bring home. read more

I paid in advance for a pick up order for Friday morning around 10:45, I was very specific with the time I needed it. The place ran my credit card, I arrived at 10:44 and was told I needed to wait about 10 minutes or so (this means probably 15) and most likely they haven't made it yet because I can hear them cooking it in the back. I'm the only customer here so it's not like they are so busy that they couldn't get to my order ! There was a man sitting to the side whom I assume is probably one of the managers or owner who didn't want get involved. This was my first, and will be my last time ordering from them. Hard pass. Get your act together, totally embarrassing for a Vietnamese (or any businesses) to run it in such a manner. I'm driving all the way from Hermosa Beach because I wanted to treat my daughter's preschool school to something fun and different. Ugh. Update : My order came out over 15 minutes after my requested pickup time AND it came with beef and onions on top. When I had placed the order a week before with a guy , I had requested garlic noodles. At no time did he tell me they'll be meat on it! The girl who gave me my order said "well that's just how it we make our garlic noodles" and offered to remove the beef but at that point I just walked out. I requested garlic noodles because a couple of kids at my daughter's school were religious vegetarian, so you can't just remove the meat from the noodles once it has been touched. There's a counter where you can order takeout but they'll also serve you if you want to eat in. The menu doesn't have as many dishes as a typical Vietnamese restaurant, but there are so many different types of soup noodles to try! I went with make your own pho with brisket and rare steak - my two favorite meats for pho. The servers are friendly and efficient. Even on a Friday night, I was the only one in the restaurant so I didn't have to wait long. The soup is standard pho broth and the meats were fine. A 4.5/5 is right on target. read more

LanAnh Kitchen is on the outside, a modest looking family run Vietnamese restaurant, like many you see nearby at Garden Grove or Westminster but the soup noodles here are incredible and I urge anyone looking to get their comforting Vietnamese food fix to not pass this location up. My wife got the Canh Bun noodle soup and I had the fish noodle soup - not only were both bowls packed with a multitude of ingredients and filling to our stomachs, we also both noticed how CLEAR the broths in both our bowls were. In particular, I liked how the bell peppers in my soup were stuffed with fish paste - a nice touch. With some cheap 80 cent egg rolls on the side, we also became surprisingly more stuffed than we expected since the noodle soups cost just $12 bucks each. This is my only favorite restaurant in OC.I regularly come here for the ready cooked dishes and the mackerel dish/ cá nục kho is my main choice whenever I visit this restaurant. Other veggie dishes are also excellent to combine with rice. I have not yet tried other a la card specialties, but believe they are also good, because a cook normally cooks well when some of her products are well tasted. Services is excellent, friendly and warm. I would ask my wife to accompany me next time to test it herself since she is a very critical cook at home. Ambience is bright and clean.
