Finally, Northern Cafe is in Huntington Beach! I used to go to the Cerritos location whenever I was craving Northern Cafe, so I was excited to see they finally opened one in Huntington Beach. They opened around May 2026, and the location is super convenient on Beach Blvd. It's right next to H Mart, making it an easy stop after grocery shopping. They currently offer Lunch Specials Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Just a heads-up:the Lunch Special Menu is separate from the regular menu, so make sure you're looking at the right one. Besides the lunch specials, they also serve hot pots and their full à la carte menu. We went on a Friday afternoon, and the restaurant was packed. The Stir Fry Lunch Combo includes FREE Hot & Sour Soup, steamed rice, and a drink. The soup wasn't my favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised that one of the drink options is classic Taiwanese Apple Soda ( 蘋菓西打). However, the menu has a funny typo as 西打蘋果. What we ordered: *Soup Dumplings (6 pcs) - $8.99 (Lunch Special) Very good! Juicy filling with thin wrappers. I actually liked these better than Ling Long's Dumplings in Fountain Valley. *Pan Fried Shrimp, Pork, Egg & Chive Dumplings (6 pcs) - $7.99 (Lunch Special) The filling reminded me of Taiwanese pan-fried buns, which I really enjoyed. *Boiled Fish - $19.99 (Stir Fry Lunch Combo) Mildly spicy with tender fish. Great with rice. *Garlic Pork Ribs - $17.99 (Stir Fry Lunch Combo) Lots of garlic flavor--perfect if you're a garlic lover. *A10 Popcorn Chicken - $9.99 Generous portion, crispy, well-seasoned, and topped with plenty of fried basil. Had to stop by here as we were hungry and saw it driving off Beach Blvd. There's a Northern Cafe in L.A. that is delish, and we recently went to the one in Irvine which was good. We ordered the dumplings of course, pork Xiao Long Bao, cucumber salad, Dan Dan noodles, and Mapo tofu. The cucumber salad came out first and it was good. I've had tastier. The Dan Dan came next and it was good. I immediately tasted peanut sauce, which I love. The meat was tasty. It's kinda hard to scoop so see if they can provide you cooking scissors. We just used the spoon to break it off. The Mapo tofu was good, but it left a numbing sensation in our mouths. We found out that's the Sichuan peppercorns which are meant to do that. Who knew?! I wasn't a fan of this dish, not because of the numbing, but because it left a weird aftertaste. The dumplings were good, especially with vinegar. Make sure you ask for a spoon to eat the dumplings in. The staff were very, VERY attentive. A bit too much. They were trying to grab our dishes/plates when we still had food on it. And it wasn't busy, so no one was waiting for a table. I do like that they kept refilling our water jug. And brought us napkins even when I didn't ask, but I did want. I have been back several times now and will say the XLB BOGO promo is over. Everything is still as I experienced and expect. They don't seem to bring out shredded ginger, a staple to XLB, but if you ask for it they will kindly bring it out. The lunch special is a good deal and includes soup, rice, and a soft drink. There were seats available, but it took a while for us to get seated as well as getting our initial order in. Aside from the initial delay in service, they were super attentive and friendly throughout the meal. I ordered the xlb, cucumber salad, spicy wonton, and Dan Dan noodles. Their xlb was delicious and had great flavor but sadly more than half of the dumplings ripped so the soup spilled out. The cucumber salad was crunchy and refreshing. Overall, food was very mediocre. I feel like the pork dumplings were under steamed, as some of the bottoms were still doughy. Came on a Thursday 5/21/26 around Noon for lunch with my parents for the BOGO juicy pork dumpling. We took advantage of the lunch special which included soda, hot n sour soup and a bowl of rice. We ordered kung pao chicken, garlic pork ribs, beef rolls and BOGO 6 pc juicy pork dumplings. All the orders came out hot and fast!! Kung Pao Chicken- Super flavorful and delicious, kind of salty if you eat it by itself, but it's really good if you eat it with the white rice. Portion size was huge, lots of chicken and not too much nuts and chili. 5/5 Garlic Pork Ribs- omg this dish was so good!! The pork ribs were Crispy and juicy. Reminded me of a salt and pepper pork ribs. Portion size one again was huge! This was my mom favorite dish, and you know it's good when the mom gives the thumbs up. A must order!! 6/5 Beef rolls- the beef rolls were huge!!! Stuff with fresh herbs and lots of meats. Been driving by here several times, seeing a "Coming Soon" banner each time, hoping they'd be open already. And today I was not disappointed - they finally opened! This is the third location I've been to, and the food seems pretty consistent. Granted, I've only tried their hot pot and some other cold dishes, both are delicious. So today I swung in to pick up some Wontons in Spicy Chili Sauce to go. It was pretty yummy, has thick pork filling, but the sauce was a bit salty. I've tried other Northern Cafe locations before and thought they were fine, but this one really impressed me! We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was a short wait for our party of eight. The service was friendly and efficient. All the food came out quickly too. We had to get the BOGO free xiao long baos, and I really appreciated that they let us know there are peanuts in them since one of our friends is allergic. I thought it was odd to have peanuts in them since I'm not used to that, but it was pretty good and not overpowering. Among the items we ordered, my favorites were the green beans and golden noodle soup. The green beans had a nice char and the noodles in the golden soup were cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the pig ear, but I think they could make it spicier or more flavorful. Parking is easy and I could see myself coming back often. read more

Came here on the second day of opening around 530 as a party of 5. Got seated on the last table without wait. They had buy one get one free xiaolongbao so we got that. It was pretty decent. The main dish we come to northern every time is for the golden soup beef noodle. I think the one at the irvine location is the best since it has a different tang to it than the Cerritos location and this one hasn't quite hit but it scratches the itch. The other ones taste pretty close to the other Cerritos location. The big plate chicken noodles are always good. I love thick noodles so those were perfect. The only note was that the quality of meat in the stir fried rice cakes was quite varied as some pieces were good and some still had a stringy tendon piece or something in it. Besides that I'm glad theres a northern closer to me now and I hope that more people come to try their golden soup beef noodles which are my absolute favorite! read more

Tried Northern Cafe in Huntington Beach for the first time and it was amazing. It was packed when we walked in with 90% of tables filled with Asians which is always a good sign. We had to wait about ten minutes to be seated. It's the first month of opening and they have a BOGO for their pork dumplings. We didn't order dumplings because we already had some this week so we tried green beans, spicy eggplant (lunch special), beef roll and fried noodles with shrimp Spicy eggplant the spicy eggplant came with hot and sour soup, rice and a soda. I'm not a fan of hot and sour soup, but my husband said it was delicious and very spicy. All the dishes we tried were exceptional. It's hard to pick a favorite because it was all so good. Friendly staff and clean restaurant. They have inside and outside seating. Hard to tell what to expect from the outside because it's a large yellow building with brick and black inside. I popped in about 1pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant had more seating than I expected. The restaurant was maybe 3/4 full so I was seated right away. I was able to place my order pretty quickly. We came on a Sunday during their Grand Opening promotion which runs to 6/16/2026 - Eatery is offering a BOGO on their Xiang Long Bao soup dumplings for dine-in only. Due to high demand and popularity, there may be a longer wait for them and patience is requested. The XLB soup dumplings were good; needed a bit more broth inside them, maybe less meat. We had to ask for the ginger that is often served with them. Worth waiting for a great promo to get people in to try the restaurant. We also ordered the Bok Choy with Garlic and that was perfect. A nice crisp and beautiful green fresh Bok Choy. The Chicken Noodle dish needed a little more chicken and vegetables however the thick long noodles had terrific texture, not over cooked, great flavor. The Shrimp Fried Rice was alright, nothing special here and seemed to lack something, not sure what though. The shrimps were abundant and large in the fried rice, which we appreciated. Also ordered the Orange Chicken, just the right crispness and sweet and savory to this fish. A winner and I might come back for this again! Their Scallion Pancakes (4 in an order) were excellent-crispy, not too greasy and a great thickness to them. We ordered 2 of orders and all 8 slices were eaten up. Overall, I really liked Northern Cafe a lot and love the addition of this establishment in our community. I hope they do well and continue to perfect a good thing they've got going. Would like to see an expanded dim sum menu. Check them out for Chinese food. The price point was excellent for the quality and quantity of food. Portions were generous with 5 people in our party, we had leftovers to take home. Family friendly, service was responsive and quick. The majority of customers were Asian and some people were saying they've been here already and returning customers. Would recommend and will be going back again for sure! I was longing for a good dim sum restaurant ever since Furiwa went out of business bc of poor marketing, it was really a shame they did not figure out marketing was everything esp w social medias. This cafe advertised as a dim sum resto but they have only few dim sum items, it was more a XLB resto. Grand opening special buy 1 get 1 free, that was a good idea, this place reminded me of LingLong, also a XLB resto owned by people from the mainland. The cons: 1) Perhaps it's not fair to rate if in general I'm not a big fan of XLB, even from Din Tai Fung, Idk what the big fascination is all about, I bit into the XLB and the juice squirted out of it, it went straight into my eyes fortunately I wore glasses that day or I might have to go to the ER as it was burning hot. I was definitely clumsy, 2 bites later, it squirted into my dress! of well there goes $6 to dry clean it. 2) I came back 2 days later and ordered beef soup, broth was almost black? I thought it might be like the Taiwanese yummy beef soup but it was not the case. 4) I ordered the beef skewers, now are they joking? it was so spicy hot, really strange spices, I love spices, I have 2 cabinets full of spices and hot sauces but I could not identify what they were, sorry 2 stars. I asked to return it, the owner gracefully took them back so let's get to the yummy stuff THE PROS: 1) THE EGGPLANTS were good 2) When I returned the skewers, I ordered the beef pie, now that was really delicious. Ordered: Scallion pancakes: crunchiest scallion pancakes I've ever had. So good that I ordered another togo. Lamb skewers: very, very little meat (see chopsticks for comparison). This was tasty, not dry but just the amount was a turn off. Pork dumplings (bogo free): a thicker wrapper than what I'm used to. Not much soup inside but the meat was very flavorful. Garlic pork riblets: I didnt like this dish too much. More bones than actual meat. And the bones would fragment in your mouth. Purple Potato Balls: very, very small balls but the potato filling was tasty Custard Buns: also very small buns, tasty filling Had to flag down the servers for sauce bowls + soup spoons. Otherwise, service was great for grand opening and the friendly female server also bagged up the leftovers on the table. Spacious dining room and overall food was tasty. Not sure why the take out menu doesn't have a phone number on it. I'd come back again to try additional dishes. I don't really have any major complaints (aside from those lamb skewers). read more

The Golden soup in Irvine is too spicy for me. But at this location it was more milder. Service was a bit rough since it was opening but overall food was delicious. read more

So excited that Northern Cafe finally opened in Huntington Beach! Conveniently located right on Beach Blvd with plenty of parking. I took my daughter here for dinner on their SECOND day open and the place was PACKED. We put our name down and waited about 20 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad considering the grand opening crowd. At this rate, they'll probably need to add a Yelp waitlist soon! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but families of 4-6 can sit comfortably. There's also patio seating outside, and the waiter mentioned pets are allowed out there when weather permits (unless it's too windy). Nice bonus! Food came out HOT, FAST, and seriously delicious. We ordered the BOGO juicy dumplings (grand opening special until 6/16) and WOW, the broth inside those dumplings might honestly be the best in town. So flavorful and juicy. The sweet and sour pork ribs were crispy, tender, and packed with flavor. Definitely one of our favorites. The fried chicken wings were hot and crispy too, although I was personally expecting more of a salt-and-pepper style wing. The house special beef noodle soup was a little bland for my taste, but the portions were HUGE and prices were super affordable. Service was also impressive considering how busy they were. Lots of attentive waiters checking in, TVs playing, music in the background, and nonstop to-go orders lined up along the counters. You can already tell this place is going to be a neighborhood favorite. They also offer lunch specials, which I'll definitely be back to try soon. It's a Chinese cafe (northern style) and especially in Chinese dumpling...currently they have special offers for dine in only, but one and get one free dumplings. Plenty of parking spaces :8! E they are located in a big shopping plaza and on right in the main entrance from the street. Easy to spot it with big sign and big cleaned windows and the light decor. Came before dinner rush, so just couple table with one or two servers. 2 choices of seating, booths or tables style. They do have inside and outside seatings. Easy & simple menu, staff is nice and friendly (but forgetful, she forgotten my orders 2X, and chili to go when she insisted that she's will get for us with our left over foods to go, no apologetic at all when she learned that she forgot to ring in the orders after 20mins plus and the manager had to come and talked with me...but she's nice and very energetic person....the manager did apology and informed that she is a new staff and in the learning period. He didn't charge one of the two desserts I ordered). The place is new, clean and spacious with several TVs and music on (abit loud at time), overall, good vibe. Foods are good, dumplings are nice and juicy. Fried rice was okey, noodle was good...my kid ate it all. Desserts are good as well. Prices are quite decent and affordable, especially with the portion. Because Long H. left a good review we ordered the garlic pork ribs and beef roll, and we also got the cumin lamb and bok choy too. I have a new favorite dish in the garlic pork ribs and agree that they are a must order 6/5! the beef roll was also good and my neighbors favorite just be warned they have a lot of cilantro which we don't mind but I know some people would 4/5 the cumin lamb was pretty good but probably my least favorite not that it was bad but because everything else was so delicious 4/5. The bok choy was cook well not over or under at all and a nice side to help with the spicy and saltiness of the other dishes 4/5. We also had the lunch special and the hot and sour soup was good and flavored well with a little heat 5/5. We were the first people there at 11am and so service was excellent! She came back to see how the food was and if we needed anything from napkins to to go containers. It also got fairly crowded by the time we left so get there early if you can. We will definitely be back to try more items since we live close and it's not as far as driving to Westminster, garden grove or the San Gabriel valley for good Chinese or dim sum.
