We loved this place when they were in Port A. We went for dinner tonight! Food was fresh, and the staff was awesome. The calamari was some of the best we've ever had, really tender. They cut strips from a steak, so larger pieces than normally served. I'm not a cole slaw fan but I liked theirs. The cocktail sauce is a thick and chunky sauce, and super tasty. Absolutely thrilled about Avery's Kitchen. They are consistently dishing out really good food. While some folks may think frying an egg is easy, so many cooks cannot prepare a medium fried egg. This diner was really cute and nice and the service was phenomenal. But the food was okay. It tasted good but nothing spectacular. When I got the bill my jaw dropped. $51 for 3 breakfast plates. One of which was just a waffle by itself. $12 for a waffle is crazy... I did see the prices so yea, I could have gotten up and left. I just didn't expect a hole in the wall diner to be so pricey. I tipped the wait staff well because they were amazing. I just can't pay $15 a plate (again) for pancakes and eggs. read more

Interesting visit today. We arrived just before noon. Midweek, the place should be getting busy. Not today. We are greeted by a hostess station with no staff, but with a notice saying we cannot request a table. What? I'd like a table near a window. Nope, can't do that. You get a booth over there. The place was largely empty, with only a couple tables occupied. After we were seated we observed a couple standing at the hostess station for a few minutes and then leave without being seated. Maybe if the staff was watching the front, they could have retained a customer. There was certainly plenty of tables available. My food was fine, but my wife's gumbo had a distinct fishy taste. Our waiter was attentive in a good way-best part of the lunch. The overall atmosphere was a bit depressing. Won't be going back soon. read more

First dining here. Pretty busy for a Saturday around 9:30, but no wait. Ordered coffee and water to start. Coffee was ok but now worth the cost. Mugs are small and it was not refilled but once. They do however have regular creamer and French vanilla international delight. Ordered a cinnamon roll for an appetizer, had to try it. It was warm and icing was kinda thin. Waitress said it was big, but not sure it was worth $4.47. I ordered the two egg platter with hash browns, bacon, and toast. Food was good hash browns were more of a mash. Waitress was ok but as I mentioned earlier she didn't check on my table much. Other item order was the chicken fried steak. I tried it and it was pretty good even though I am not a huge fan of that. Breading was just right, not too think and not too thin. Restaurant and bathrooms were really clean. No masks were worn by anyone in the place. So if your scared of germs don't go here. It's a very small space and absolutely no social distancing. Also if you don't pay cash you pay the fee for using a card. It's shown in my receipt attached. First time here; taking advantage of their lower-priced January lunch specials $7.50. Today, liver and onions with mashed potatoes and Black eyed peas and a garden salad. Liver: tender, great char from flat top. Gravy: smooth and dark, great onion flavor Coffee: great fair trade house blend; they sell by lb $15 Black eyed peas: outstanding Atmosphere: relaxing, spacious, welcoming. Service: very friendly server. I was told their breakfast is great as well as their seafood at night. This place is about as close as you can get to having a waffle House in New Braunfels for breakfast (American, old school breakfast, not tacos). read more

My family of 5 was absolutely starving for breakfast yesterday. The welcoming staff was great- but the waiter we had was very inattentive - we had to get our own straws for water and so did the customers next to us - she was waiting on them too. Then we had to flag someone else for coffee refill - not to mention - I get she may have been vaccinated but my goodness she was talking over our drinks and leaning in over the table. Ugh can I get a little space. Ok now for the food - my daughter had the spinach omelette and it was still a little slimy on the inside and the spinach wasn't even cooked. The sausage didn't have great flavor either. Waffles just bland and so were the potatoes and I had to season with A LOT of salt and peeper. Let's just say my family LOVES breakfast so maybe we are breakfast snobs !! Let's just say it was "ok" but nothing to rave about. read more

Our server was great. We got there late today around 2pm for lunch. The food has greatly improved since the last time I dined in. One of highlights is the waitress filled my glass with ice prior to refilling the tea. I can't stand it when servers refill glass with fresh brewed tea and no additional ice. Very pretentious eatery. While the food was ok and service was good, I expected more in the quality of food for the money. I had eggs and ham, the ham was the processed kind not off the bone. I asked for rye toast and was told that there is an up charge because the rye bread cost more. I said ok but only got one piece of toast. The up charge was $1.25. That is a ripoff! And to top it off we were charged a fee for using a credit card. Need less to say we will not recommend this place. We will not be back. read more

Had a not so great experience here today. The food was good but the hostesses and food runners were awful. The hostesses were inconsistent. One told us one thing, one told us another. It took an hour for our drinks, some things never made it to our table. They were rude, especially the older food runner ladys.
