Ugly fairway? The Hope course is ugly!
    Janet M.

Horribly maintained golf course! Greens?? So bad and rough! Poor signage! Tee boxes and markers are pathetic and hard to find... a little chopped piece of wood with a bit of paint on the ends which are not easy to see! Some cart paths are inaccessible! Unbelievable ugly golf course! Website is deceptive! Pics do NOT look like the course at all and you do not see the ocean until you drive away! Shameful! A refund wouldn't even compensate the horrible waste of time. One redeeming feature, employees were nice.

    Range in August

My family and I decided to played 9 holes & visit the range as we were in the area for a quick trip. We were a little nervous since the reviews were hit or miss... but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. By the pro shop and restaurant there is a super serene seating area overlooking a body of water with sun chairs, tables and chairs. The range was okay. The grass was a golden color but I thought it was a great place to bring a beginner since we had brought my dad for the first time. The 9 holes that we had played were nice! I absolutely loved all the trees, flowers and plants surrounding the area. The grass was green for the most part (there are visible yellow patches on each hole). My family thought it was a decently hard course considering they're intermediate golfers & 1 beginner. We saw deer, rabbits, squirrels and turkeys which was super cool as well. This course wasn't too bad in our opinion. It definitely served its purpose for us & definitely one of the more affordable options.

The course could/should improve. What has happened to this course? So much potential and nothing is kept up. The cart path is like 4 wheel driving. There are so many hazards on this course, just because it's not kept up. There is a lot of dirt patches. Staff was nice.

Good Venue! Free golf course parking. Ain't nothing like music, beach, food trucks, and alcohol. Oh, and beautiful weather!

This was my first time here. I enjoyed the golf course. I thought I would see the ocean from any hole I tee'd off from, but the day we golf was the same day as the Sublime w/ Rome concert. So a couple holes were rerouted and not playable. Besides that, I enjoyed it, I also got to Sublime practice. Beers and burgers were delicious, but tell me a golf course that doesn't have a good burger. I plan on playing again soon, if you want a nice view and semi challenging course, then Avila Beach Golf Course is your place.

Location location location! Nestled into the hills beside the sea, this golf course meanders along a valley. It is not an easy course, but not too difficult either. The weather in Avila Bay (Port San Luis) is tricky. It can be cold and overcast, then warm to scorching with a kind of trapped air bubble, so think Northern California and layer accordingly. The holes back in the valley will always be a bit warmer. You do share the course with joggers and bikers along the bike trail, and sometimes the drought has yellowed patches of the grass, but the fresh sea air makes it all worthwhile. It is one to a cart right now because of COVID, which slows the play a bit for everyone. Average cost can be $60. You can go online for coupons ahead of time. The local Mulligans Grill and Bar is a good choice for refreshment when you have completed 18 holes!

Worst golf course around. Very rude employees. Does not allow spectators. Driving range closes early. Do not recommend.

So I emailed for clarification and they responded confirming that I had a 1pm tour. The website clearly says 11 and 1! When I arrived at 12:40 to get into the gate, it was locked. We called and the lady (same lady from email) told me that my tour was at 12 and that I was late, they don't do refunds, she already sent our docent home and that I was wrong on my time. She was SO RUDE!! I do not know how someone like this is still employed here, even if she volunteers, she's costing this place money! I checked my email again, it said 1pm! I called her back to tell her that she was wrong and she continued to blame me for her mistake. So after all of that nothing, I can use the tickets at a later time, even though I'm from out of town, and may not be able to come back. She did not care. This experience has been very disappointing. I really wanted to see the lighthouse, but I do NOT want to see her. And from the other reivews, I can see that she's been there for a while and is rude to everyone. Please find someone else to run this place. Think twice before booking. images for proof

The property is dog friendly and lots of guests have dogs on a leash walking around. The summer we went, there are families with kids. Fun times for all. Water pressure really slow. Kids loud in the hallways late at night. Our tv channels were not working on our first night. I texted our virtual concierge the following day and they addressed the issue with TV channels and our lock box being locked upon arrival. I chose a partial ocean view and it was pretty disappointing, I saw someone's back yard for the most part. The continental breakfast was not good. What was okay was the pack of Quaker oatmeal, a banana, and great was coffee/tea available at all times. The location was okay-- was able to. Walk half mile or so to get to restaurants. Would not stay here again.

We ended up sitting inside to avoid the evening breeze, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The dining room was quaint, cozy, and relatively quiet, making it easy for the six of us to have great conversation throughout dinner. We started with the ratatouille, which absolutely blew us away, the bubbling brie, which was rich, gooey, and beyond delicious, and an order of frites that were crispy and satisfying. For our entrees, our table ordered the duck à l'orange, scallops (which I ordered and they were spectacular), a burger, mushroom ravioli, a house garden salad, and a Caesar salad. The mushroom ravioli was incredible, the garden salad was much larger than expected and very fresh, and the Caesar salad was crisp and flavorful. Every dish was beautifully prepared, and the quality of the food really stood out. The only downsides were that the burger was served plain, even though lettuce and onion had been requested, and the service was a bit slower than expected. We had a 6:15 p.m. reservation, so we arrived before the dinner rush and anticipated a quicker pace. Overall, the outstanding food, charming atmosphere, and prime location made for a wonderful dining experience. We'd definitely return the next time we're in Avila Beach.
