We were on our merry way until we got to the car....the car reeked of cigarettes and looked like it wasn't thoroughly cleaned before renting it out to us. Rented a car from Thursday after my flight from the airport to Sunday when I was flying back. Thursday we waited an hour in line before finally it was our turn. There was $284 in hidden fees, fine, they sent us to a parking spot for our car, f4, there was another couple in that car and they had been switched around 4 times already so I went back in to the desk. They then shuffled me around to 2 more vehicles with someone else promised or in them before finally I got in a little Chrysler mini van. Pacifica 2024. The car was dirty, windshield all smudged, and only a little over a half of tank of gas, even though the paperwork said full tank. Thank God I took pictures as I started to drive of the gas gage. One hour after driving to my destination for the night, the car had a message saying to pull over safely the car would be shutting down soon, the alternator light came on, and there was a symbol saying less then 1% battery life. I had to call the state police and the rescue line for the avis line and the state police had to flood and get us to safety. The police officer was amazing and got us safely home. The tow company came to pick up the car rental and I was promised a full refund. I did not get any refund yet but even a full refund was $514 out of $591 I paid and I was sent an Uber voucher to use for Sunday on the way to airport since thats what the car was for. The Uber voucher did not work to schedule a rode or at the time I needed the ride, or an hour or 2 or 3 before. I tried for 7 hours and nothing. So not only did I get nothing from this rental it was a horrible experience. The customer service over the phone was ok but they could do nothing to change or help my situation or get me a working car. The inside desk at CT airport was a joke. Im positive I won't be the only one leaving a similar review from the same date. April 9th was a bad day for avis and to be a customer for them. I would really appreciate ALL of my money back even 6axes etc, and then at least an additional $148.00 for the ride i had to pay for to the airport that was supposed to be a Uber voucher. Such a joke. I will be reviewing until I get my refund I didn't take 7 to 10 days to pay you so please process my refund as quickly as I processed my payment. Picked up our rental after a redeye flight. Finding this place is tricky. Look for baggage claim and there will be a blue bus that takes you to car rentals. AVIS is on the 2nd floor. I am a preferred member, so I was able to do express checkout. It was nice getting a free upgrade to a Toyota Rav 4. The car was decent and did the job. Awful experience!! Not only was I given a vehicle with BALD TIRES I was JUST charged a cleaning fee 2 weeks after the return when the car was checked upon return for mileage, smoke smell, gas level, and dents!! I am infuriated that I am being charged a cleaning fee for "light sand" with the vehicle requiring VACUUMING and WIPING according to their own photos. A cleaning fee is for EXCESS dirt, smoking in the car, or dog hair, none of which applied to the vehicle I returned!! We had nothing but great service here. Easy to check in and get the car and signage was easy to navigate within the garage to locate the rental car. Checking back in to return the car was too notch. We arrived and the agent took the car and drove us to the airport rather than us having to exit and catch the bus which would've added 30+ minutes and such a hassle. Excellent customer service!! I didn't catch his name but he was so friendly and engaged with us the entire car ride also. He's an excellent example of how customers should be treated. The reservation made ahead of time still left us standing in line for 1.5 hours to obtain a vehicle. Strong armed sales in regard to insurance based upon the area even though we insisted we were covered by our own insurance. Felt it to be a deceptive business practice. Complex unexplained fees. Extra amount on the receipt with no explanation as to what it represents. Vehicle was not in good shape, vibrations and noises that should not be present. We were unsure of the safety of the vehicle. The odometer reading denoted on the receipt is entirely false! The receipt shows "mileage out" at 100 when in fact it was 49790. We have pictures. We prepaid for 4 days and returned the vehicle in 3 days and 1 hour. Everything needs improvement. The employees are extremely rude. The go out of their way to make it seem like they are doing the customer a favor instead of knowing that these things are part of their job. Even the reps helping the Avis preferred customers were rude and unwelcoming to every single customer. No one was rude to them. Not one smile, not one hello. The car I got assigned reeked of smoke. I was able to switch it out but not without attitude. The car that I got switched was in a downgraded level, which was never mentioned but what choice do I have. When I picked up my rental, the car was really dirty inside and out, and there was almost no gas, which is a pain but not the end of the world. I had the car for two full weeks and returned it with much more gas than it had when I got it, but today, several days after I returned it, I got an additional bill for $125 for a cleaning fee! According to their form, the severity of the issue was "light", and the photos that they sent showed minor debris on the floor mats; nothing out of the ordinary for two weeks of use. Lesson learned for me; I should have called out the dirty condition of the car when I picked it up, and I should have used a different agency. WORST COMPANY I'VE EVER USED. I rented the company's better car (the most expensive option), but when I arrived in London, they didn't have it available. They asked if I could take a smaller car, and I had to sign paperwork for this alternative. When I returned the car, I was charged significantly more because they claimed I had done an upgrade. They treated me poorly and insisted that since I signed, they couldn't help me. The paper I signed included "Additional Products ** Included RSN, UPLx12." They spoke to me condescendingly when I said I didn't see any mention of upgrades. I later found out that "UPL" means upgrade. I rate this company. We reserved a jeep a month before our trip and pre paid the estimate total of $700ish, then when we landed it was midnight and we were tired. The guy was with us for about 45 mins, kept messing up and grabbing an employee to help him undo the mistake he kept making on our account. He asked if we wanted any coverage and we said NO. (Our credit card benefit fully covers car rentals, and we told him this). Finally he asked us to put our credit card in the machine and press "ok"... the amount was almost the exact amount we prepaid for, so I thought it was a confirmation. We approved and THEN he said he are the keys to your bronco. We were highly annoyed and said we reserved a jeep and he said oh sorry none available. We left, turns out we were given a much much more expensive car, and we were also charged for "optional" insurance. That second $700 was additional to the first $700 charge. We never were told about or agreed to the more expensive car, we never were told about or agreed to the optional insurance. But since we put in our credit card and clicked OK, the damage was done. Kicking ourselves for not questioning why they needed our credit card again, they rely on tricking and scamming people as their business model. Be aware. We calling and explaining how the person working with us snuck in those charges, but they said we signed for them so we had to pay. Absolute joke. Avoid at all costs. Waited for more than 1hour to pick up a car I had already reserved. By the time I left, the line looked more than 2 hours long. There were only 2 trained staff behind the counter, and 1 other guy who constantly had to ask for help from his colleagues. There was no urgency at all - 1 guy kept going on breaks and then spent 10min loading paper into the printer. Staff behind the counter spent more than 30minutes with some customers, especially foreign tourists who had to be walked through the entire rental process . Meanwhile, other rental car companies (such as Sixt) had 2 staff and no line whatsoever. I would never rent from Avis/Budget at this location ever again. I'd like to start with the positive aspects that were noticed. First, shuttle to the car rental counters were decently seamless. As soon as you exit baggage claim and head outside, you will be able to locate large shuttle buses that will transfer you to another area where all the car rental companies are. These buses come pretty often and are spacious enough to hold your party and luggages. One flaw is that the shuttle buses will stop at each and every terminal to pick up more passengers on its way since Boston-Logan terminals are placed in a "loop" layout so just keep this in mind. Second, car return is super easy. You just drive to the designated return spot, leave your keys in the car, and exit. Unfortunately, those were the only good things that we saw from our experience. If anyone was at the Avis counter on the evening of 6/18/25 and into morning of 6/19/25, I think you would also agree that this was THE MOST HORRENDOUS experience one could have at a rental car counter. I'm talking about waiting ~3.5 hrs in line for a 2 min process and I know this because I was taking time stamps as I witnessed understaffed issues, lack of urgency from current staff, poor management of reservations, etc. When we approached the car rental area, we had hoped to use the Avis Preferred service since we already had a reservation and our documents ready. Unfortunately with our delayed flight, we found out that we were slightly too late and that this service closes at 12 AM so we had to join the general queue. We joined this line at ~12:15 AM and it was already super long because for some reason, there was one counter with only 3 employees servicing customers of both Avis and Budget. Throughout our time in the line, we saw the employees struggling to manage reservations. Certain customers could be seen talking to an agent for about 30 minutes which severely affected the ability of the ~25 parties that were waiting in line to get their reservation. The issue seemed to be a culmination of the customer not having an existing reservation and having to proceed through all paperwork, the inexperience of the Avis agents due to them being a new employee and/or not knowing how to handle customers' inquiries, and understaffing. Everyone in the line was clearly exhausted and just wanted to get their car so they could be on their way. What was extra sad to see were the children, the elderly, and the large families having to wait with their parties' representatives to get a car. From this, you can immediately tell that the agents had no lack of urgency or compassion to the waiting parties. Specifically, we saw one woman who stepped out and took a break about 5 times and just ignoring the radiating fatigue of those in the long line. Another woman would be chatting forever with each customer about things that had nothing to do with the reservation. This woman would also ask "How are you doing?" to customers who have been waiting hours on end rather than "Thank you for your patience" which just clearly shows how insensitive they are to the emerging issue. By the time we reached the counter (which was 3:50 AM at this point), we saw that most employees have "stepped out" and had left one girl working the counter. Because I was so angry at the situation, I timed myself to see if my talk with the agent was as long as others that went ahead of me. With prior reservation online and preparedness, we got through with the agent in 2 MINUTES. Please let that sink in... WAIT OF 3.5 HRS FOR A 2 MINUTE PROCESS. Absolutely atrocious and despicable. You may ask... why not cancel the reservation and go with another company? We did check other companies for availability but they either had no more cars or they were closed. Unfortunately for myself and many of the parties that were in line, we had no other choice but to wait. Due to a variety of personal reasons, many did not have the luxury to just step away. To Avis at Boston-Logan airport, PLEASE DO BETTER. Please treat and train your employees better so that they can provide better services to your customers. I have waited 1 hour before to obtain a rental car which is understandable at peak arrival times but 3.5 hours was truly inhumane. Also, the experience could have been slightly improved by having a separate line for those who have prior reservations like myself who did not have to go through all paperwork and options for the car rental. My loyalties to Avis/Budget has regrettably been severed. I will go with another company for my next car rental as my valuable time and energy is not worth jeopardizing for Avis/Budget's prices. read more

Boston Logan Avis is the absolute worst preferred program in the entire country and I would give them a zero and zero stars. very poor service. Charged me $125 extra cleaning fee for a small amount of sand from our hiking trip in N.H. Sent me photos - and said they needed to have the car "detailed". I attempted to explain I have an email directly from an AVIS Operations Manager who said the charge would be reversed on Sept. 20th. Yet, on Oct. 2nd, they went ahead and charged my card $125. So, after 41 minutes on hold, I finally get a supervisor. She said because the charge was already on my card, there was no way they could reverse it. It's really not about the money; it the principal that they said they would indeed not charge me the cleaning fee, but they went ahead and did so anyway. I will not be using AVIS anytime soon! Our family of four just came off of the red eye with barely any sleep from CA. My husband has been Avis Preferred, and when we got to the counter he asked if they have Avis Preferred and if he could go to the car, where the "customer NON service" (and I use that loosely because there was ZERO service), rudely states "if you have a stall!!?" Where he responds "well I have Avis preferred and usually can go to the car?" She then stated "I don't need your attitude" then proceeds to accuse him of verbal assault? "VERBAL ASSAULT?" That's if you're cussing and talking about assaulting or harming them last time I checked, not asking why he can't go to a stall to get his car? Anyway, he then replies "what are you talking about and you're rude and you work in customer service?" "I own a business with many employees and have been a loyal member with Avis for decades, and if one of my customer service people treated him like that, they would be reprimanded and removed." At this point my husband was clearly super upset and walked away to go find Avis Preferred board to see if our name was on it, which is standard? It wasn't as there was only 2 names, which is strange, but that's another issue. Then I took over the transaction where the very rude Avis CS and another Avis CS rep, who seemed in cahoots about bashing my husband when I walked up, saying how he was verbally assaulting the one rep, which again he never swore, never said anything derogatory, never insulted and certainly didn't "verbally assault" or anything let alone anything that could construed as assault. Based on what I saw from how these two were acting and making up something that wasn't, I just wanted to get our car and move on, in hopes of making this odd and uncomfortable situation in the rear view. Basically was overtly polite and gave them my name to get our car. The other customer rep then asks "what's up w him?" and even though he NEVER was out of line, maybe short but not rude, I tried to be overly nice to just get our car. When she asks that question I state "we are all exhausted, it's 4am and obviously we have kids that are worn out." She then says verbatim "well we're all tired and everyone has kids, what makes you so privileged?" I was completely shocked not only was this comment(s) off base, beyond rude and had pretty clear undertones of racism, because we are a different color then them. Then she proceeds to further this twilight zone debacle by saying "well we aren't renting you a car today, you're as rude as your husband," even though I was about as respectful and nice as I could be. Our kids weren't up at the counter through this fiasco but were directly behind us, felt threatened and were very upset to have to listen to this whole ordeal. To be honest I've never seen or experienced anything so out of left field, out of nowhere and beyond deplorable, especially to a loyal CUSTOMER by a customer SERVICE personnel of a company!?!? My husband is cancelling any and all accounts and business with Avis, who clearly have no idea what's going on with their Customer NON Service personnel and personnel management. Silver lining, I went over to Hertz and even though every other car rental was sold out (likely what these two rude and racist Avis Customer NON service reps above knew and used to further their vindictive acts), the Customer Service Rep, Cheryl could not of been more respectful, caring and cognoscente of what just went down.
