I've rented 3 cars for 3 months from this location. As in many other Avis locations, cleanliness is an issue. There needs to be a change to whoever or whatever company that is cleaning and detailing these cars. I don't expect it to be spotless or perfect, but I shouldn't have to go to a car wash as soon as I leave the airport. Especially when my employer is paying 1200 each month. One car had pet hair on the seats. Another one had food stains in the console. The windows and mirrors streaked, which is a danger for visibility at night. I appreciate the Avis Preferred Member convenience along with the 2023 fleet of vehicles, which has android auto and other features. I pick my car on App, and on my way, which I never had an issue. Hassle free drop-off process as well. Things to note: This location is at Terminal 1. You will need to take the shuttle trail way and catch an Uber or walk to get to Terminal 2. After getting stranded in rural Wisconsin because the tire disintegrated, the company has refused to reimburse us for the tire replacement and other expenses, despite teling us before we spent the money that they would. We flew in during a storm & knew we had an issue. The connection flight was delayed, then canceled & we watched it domino down til our next flight option with available seats became 2 days later. So commenced our live reenactment of Planes, Train & Automobiles! We tried the night train, but it was a miss, so, we started the car rental search... I guess we should have started there, as none were available. But Avis pulled through with availability the next morning- so, 1 night of sleep & off we go! We arrived the next morning to pick up & found the process a bit unclear. We were advised to go up as, to our surprise, we were preferred members. There we checked in at a different desk & were told where to get our car. Exit signage was non-existent- so, we did a few laps before we found our way out. At the Exit, there was a scan your QR code, we didn't have one & the gent manning the gate check us out manually- he explained how it SHOULD work & what we should have been told at pick up. This is not our usual vendor but they were the only vendor with cars. Aside from the weirdness of pick up & exit, it was a successful rental. The car was in great condition & drove well. AVOID AVIS - Billed Me for Damage to a Car I Never Rented I've never experienced such blatant incompetence and refusal to take accountability as I have with Avis. I was charged nearly $1000 for vehicle damage--on a car I never rented, never drove, and never even saw. I rented one vehicle (with no issues, returned in perfect condition), yet Avis somehow filed a damage claim against a completely different vehicle months later, then charged my credit card without authorization or explanation. I immediately contacted Avis. The representative admitted the mistake, said it would be fixed--and then nothing. Weeks later, my credit card was still charged. I followed up again, only to be brushed off and told to deal with a third-party claims company. Avis clearly knows they made an error, yet refuses to correct it. Even worse: the rental agreement now available in my Avis account was silently edited to include the bogus damage charge, inflating the total. Thankfully, I have the original receipt showing the correct amount--dated before the false claim was added. This isn't a small clerical error. It's fraudulent billing, and Avis is now ignoring me completely. I've disputed the charge with my credit card company and am prepared to escalate this legally if necessary. But no customer should ever have to fight this hard to undo a company's mistake. Avis: make this right. You have my contact information (rental agreement #329397353). Avis has it all together even when they don't! The experience started out very shaky but in true form ended very well. For some reason the main Avis counter was closed at MSP. So by the time we arrived at the preferred counter in the garage the line was enormous! Everyone was being routed to preferred. I had reserved a car and my name was on the the board but no car. It said see the agent? So into the long line I go. Trouble was my cc expired and I had to give them the new info. Note:: When you reserve the car 6 months in advance it might be nice to let the customer know then to update their profile instead of waiting until you're ready to pick up your car and have to stand in a long line. But after the long line and fixing my cc on my profile the agent was very helpful. He showed me a new feature on the Avis app called, Avis QuickPass. Right now only available At MSP. The program allows you to choose a car from your mobile device before you get to the lot and use the Express Exit Gate with the Avis App. He showed me how to use it and gave us a complimentary upgrade to a Toyota 4 Runner! absolutely misleading. No one did an inspection walk around at pick up or drop off. when I received my bill, first of all it was twice as much as I was quoted on the phone. secondly and most important, they charged me for insurance. when I booked they asked and I said no that my insurance covers me. well they added it in at the fine print on the bottom when I signed. yes I should have read the fine print, but when asked why they added it after I said no, I was told that sometimes they do that and it's my responsibility to read the fine print. never NEVER again will I rent from them. read more

I waited over 2 hours in line to get into a car at MSP and was FINALLY told to go pick my car up at D39 which led me to an empty parking spot and then to top things off was not only double billed but billed at a completely different and higher daily rate for my one day rental. Complete mess of an operation!! No other car company had a line and the QuickPass was a joke! My experience with this rental company/location is nothing but horrible. These people are thieves. I rented a vehicle from then on Jul 17 to July 20th 2025. During the pickup, my agent was Moses, who said if he can upgrade me for free, i said thank you and signed their agreement, paid with credit card and took the car, which was a Hyundai Genesis in Lot C37. After i returned the vehicle, i realized that avis charged me upgrade fee where my rental went from $210 to $476. I called them to complain with no success, today i got email from the same Avis location for an excessive cleaning fee of $450. I was livid and called them, mind you, i was on business travel, all i had with me was a carry-on suitcase. I called Avis customer service the first gentleman told me there was sand in the car, I asked where can a sand come from in Minneapolis o requested copy of the file and charges and to be bewilderment, Avis is charging me $450 for excessive smoke in the car, I have never smoked in my entire life, There was not one else in the car, I have rented many times from enterprise and other car rental places, i know their policy and I don't smoke. These people are a bunch of thieves. I have already alerted my credit card company about this fraudulent charge. Avoid the AVIS or Budget period. MSP Avis is just thieves. read more

Rented a car from them and upgraded to a mini SUV at extra cost. I got a new car that did not track on the highway, so I traded in for another vehicle. This one needed a front end alignment, so I traded that one in as well. The next vehicle was not in its spot, so I asked for assistance from the clerks near the cars and was treated quite poorly. Went back to the counter and got help and a good car. All was well until I saw my credit card charges - Three times what I should have paid and the customer service person on the phone after 40 minutes of them "looking things up" was no help at all. Really really terrible experience. It had been great the couple times prior, but this time makes us never want to rent from them again. We are elite members and were able to go to that counter, but our experience was anything but elite. They gave us the wrong car type (we reserved an SUV and they gave us a compact car). The worker was down right rude, absolutely didn't to be there (easy to tell by here sitting with her hand on her chin while she listed to us talk), and didn't want to help us with our questions. We waited in line for over an hour to get the vehicle that we reserved, but when we went out to the lot to get it the spot was empty. I overheard situations like this happening numerous times while waiting in line. It turns out that they didn't have any 7-seater vehicles left and I was told that I needed to go back in line to get another vehicle. Once we were finally in the vehicle and ready to take off they told us that we couldn't take that vehicle and had to find a different vehicle. It's not that easy as a family of four with our kids in car seats. It turned out that the vehicle we got had very dirty windows. Like, someone smeared oil or sprayed sunscreen all over the windshield and passenger windows. There was also a message that showed up every time we started the vehicle that it was due for servicing, so I'm not sure how timely their servicing is. At this point, we were all too exhausted from the day's travels that we decided to just get to our final destination before cleaning the window, which meant having to go to the store to buy window cleaner and take time out of my vacation to clean something that should've been done by the company. After our trip was over I called to get a partial refund due to the original vehicle that I paid for being more expensive than the vehicle that we got and I was given a refund that I thought was fair. read more

Inconsistent national corporate policies and local procedures make using Avis frustrating and not worth the effort. This was an issue using a corporate discount where I called and cleared with the customer service team before renting. Pay more and use a competitor. I'm not sure who to blame in this instance but their system accepts information, will take your money for the reservation, and then the actual location refuses you. The staff at this location were calm and friendly, but totally unhelpful for resolving the situation, apart from 'generously' offering to rent me a car for $500 more than I reserved it for. read more

Honestly all these car companies are pretty much the same at MSP. You got Enterprise and Budget booths right next to Avis and then you have like 6 other car rental companies in the same building. Competition is great. All of these companies will try to sell you extra coverage, gas, or whatever. Just stand your ground and say no. The wait for Avis was long. I was schedule for 9:30 pickup but waited in line for another 30 minutes. The check out process was quick. I paid for the cheapest car and I got a Kia Optima. No complaints there. The return was fine. There's a Speedway gas station that 's 4 minute away from the airport. I paid $2.55 a gallon. Avis charged $2.77 a gallon I think. 5 minute wait time and no issues returning. Would I come here again? Only if their price is better than the competitors. read more

Avis Car Rental has always been good, until the last time when I was overcharged. I dropped my rental car off at 0400, on schedule, but there was no Avis rep at the PVD airport garage so my car didn't get in the system until 0611 when their person got to work - by then I was in the air, on my flight that left at 0530. No excuse for overcharging me - Avis should have figured all that out - how many other people did they overcharge! Fortunately, I saw the overcharge and provided an explanation of what happened, with my flight information, but rather than a refund I get a demand for more documentation. SMH!!! Not very happy with our Avis rental experience. The staff was very friendly and trying hard to make it up to the customers. It's their cars that isn't up to par. First car we got had a way too low tire pressure on one tire. It's the middle of winter, snow and ice everywhere, no, I'm not gonna risk it. Going back for a another car which was a lot bigger and completely covered in snow and ice. I scratch everything off and discover that the covering of the side mirror on the driver's side was off and all cables were visible. I take a picture for the record and load the car. As I was closing the trunk, I realize the license plate is expired. Back for another car. This car was dirty inside with a spilled sugary drink on the backseat. Yuck! By now we had already lost an hour of daylight time and we accepted the backseat issue. While on the road, we saw that the tank was not full, only 2/3. Argh. First time trying Avis because I was offered President's Club because of American Airlines status. I typically use National. It took almost an hour to get a car at MSP. They required everyone to check in at the Preferred Counter, 25 minutes waiting in that line to then have to wait in another line to be assigned a car which took another 25 minutes. To finally be given a Kia Forte that had just been driven up. Didn't open trunk, no sorry for delay, just "here's your car". The car wasn't even parked in a spot but left in middle of driving lane which gave me no time to get familiar with the car. Horrid experience and won't be using Avis again. read more

Unlike others here - I had a good experience at Avis - coming and going. My name was on the board when I arrived, I proceeded to my space, loaded up the car, and I was on the way. On the way back in - I had to wait about 5 minutes for the agent - but that is to be expected given how many cars pulled in when I did. It seems like everyone and their mother decided to pull in and return their vehicles at the time I returned mine. So I patiently waited for the Avis agent to make her way down to my car. The lines were so long at all companies today and the AVIS preferred counter is now closed. I'm starting to think the airport designed this whole rental center very poorly so there is not much you can do except have a little patience and navigate the crowds. I had my second quality issue with back to back rentals from this location so I'm concerned this may be trend. Last year's review You've got to use the Preferred Service! The counter attendants and Mgr were superb and quick. I did however have my first car quality problem in 20+ years as a frequent renter. Per your contract the responsibility still falls on you until the vehicle becomes available for another rental. I found myself stranded 15 miles away just three hours before my flight. Of course I called into the road side service group and they were excellent. I left car in a safe spot and took a taxi to airport. Dropped keys off with manager on duty and showed a video of my experience. I then proceeded to my flight assuming all would be taken care of. Four days later..... my contract was still considered open! After at least 8 calls to various AVIS personnel I was finally able to reach location manager who finally took care of everything. I'm not sure a less seasoned traveler would have the patience for what I experienced. Still lots of positives like the friendly tow driver and great desk Mgr. Left my laptop under the seat of my rental car and only realized once the car had been taken downstairs to get cleaned. It took 30 minutes to find the car but I got my laptop back thanks to Zak!!! This is the worst rental car experience I have had in the 47 years I've been alive. Not only did they try to put us in a car that was smaller than the one that I prepaid for after waiting in line at 2 o'clock in the morning for over an hour. When I drop the car off with the tank full The attendant came by and asked if we filled the tank we said yes and he said OK thank you you can leave. The next day we were charged $173. When I called they didn't have any customer service available in the evening but they said that it was for gas. They said I had to call the next day so I called from work the next day. And the representative asked me "well do you have a receipt to prove that you actually put gas in the vehicle". Are you kidding me I have never been asked that before. I have never had a problem returning the car and then charge for gas after the fact. In addition to that they didn't provide a receipt via email within 48 hours and there was no receipt or notification for the charge that was charged to my account. If I could give them a zero I would but we will have to go with a one star. read more

Be careful of this place. They will lie and say you brought the car back empty when you filled it up so take pictures of the gas tank on drop off. They also change the rental rate in the middle of the contract by cancelling the contract and reissuing a new one if you are a preferred member being they don't print you a physical contract...and when you call them about it they say you cancelled and booked another one. These people are lowlives who don't care what the contract says or what the gas tank denotes. They send you the e-receipt after you leave so you can't go back and argue with the manager...and when you try to get the manager on the phone when you get home he is nowhere to be found. Then they lie to the credit card company once you dispute the charge. These people are desperate and will screw you. Next time I'll walk instead of using these thieves. read more

At one point interupted me and said I can only deal with one thing at a time. Then said I'm sorry I went out of my way to find you a rental. So 620$ everything incl. then in the end 1080$ total. The location is simply genius. Most of the time, car rental facilities are off site and you have to bus to it. Howver, this place is connected to the airport. And this is SUPER important becuase its ALWAYS cold in Minnesotta. Since this is connected to the airport... you can walk over and not freeze on the sidewalk , wainting for a bus.. I made a special effort to stop at the preferred desk to get a car with a remote starter, They brought one up and off I go.. Good service, even better location! read more
