Avis MSP rents cars with tires like this. Be careful!
    J.T. K.

Avis at MSP rented us a car with 55k miles and tires that were falling apart. After getting stranded in rural Wisconsin because the tire disintegrated, the company has refused to reimburse us for the tire replacement and other expenses, despite teling us before we spent the money that they would. Utterly garbge company - take your business elsewhere.

We flew in during a storm & knew we had an issue. The connection flight was delayed, then canceled & we watched it domino down til our next flight option with available seats became 2 days later. So commenced our live reenactment of Planes, Train & Automobiles! We tried the night train, but it was a miss, so, we started the car rental search... I guess we should have started there, as none were available. But Avis pulled through with availability the next morning- so, 1 night of sleep & off we go! We arrived the next morning to pick up & found the process a bit unclear. We were advised to go up as, to our surprise, we were preferred members. There we checked in at a different desk & were told where to get our car. Exit signage was non-existent- so, we did a few laps before we found our way out. At the Exit, there was a scan your QR code, we didn't have one & the gent manning the gate check us out manually- he explained how it SHOULD work & what we should have been told at pick up. This is not our usual vendor but they were the only vendor with cars. Aside from the weirdness of pick up & exit, it was a successful rental. The car was in great condition & drove well. The return was easy.

    Avis has some serious problems!

Avis has it all together even when they don't! The experience started out very shaky but in true form ended very well. For some reason the main Avis counter was closed at MSP. So by the time we arrived at the preferred counter in the garage the line was enormous! Everyone was being routed to preferred. I had reserved a car and my name was on the the board but no car. It said see the agent? So into the long line I go. Trouble was my cc expired and I had to give them the new info. Note:: When you reserve the car 6 months in advance it might be nice to let the customer know then to update their profile instead of waiting until you're ready to pick up your car and have to stand in a long line. But after the long line and fixing my cc on my profile the agent was very helpful. He showed me a new feature on the Avis app called, Avis QuickPass. Right now only available At MSP. The program allows you to choose a car from your mobile device before you get to the lot and use the Express Exit Gate with the Avis App. He showed me how to use it and gave us a complimentary upgrade to a Toyota 4 Runner! Just love a company that tries to make things right. That's why I always use Avis!

My experience with this rental company/location is nothing but horrible. These people are thieves. I rented a vehicle from then on Jul 17 to July 20th 2025. During the pickup, my agent was Moses, who said if he can upgrade me for free, i said thank you and signed their agreement, paid with credit card and took the car, which was a Hyundai Genesis in Lot C37. After i returned the vehicle, i realized that avis charged me upgrade fee where my rental went from $210 to $476. I called them to complain with no success, today i got email from the same Avis location for an excessive cleaning fee of $450. I was livid and called them, mind you, i was on business travel, all i had with me was a carry-on suitcase. I called Avis customer service the first gentleman told me there was sand in the car, I asked where can a sand come from in Minneapolis o requested copy of the file and charges and to be bewilderment, Avis is charging me $450 for excessive smoke in the car, I have never smoked in my entire life, There was not one else in the car, I have rented many times from enterprise and other car rental places, i know their policy and I don't smoke. These people are a bunch of thieves. I have already alerted my credit card company about this fraudulent charge. Avoid the AVIS or Budget period. MSP Avis is just thieves.

All the workers at the same computer looking confused. Nobody is getting their cars soon.

One worker at the counter assisting customers. Another worker just standing there waiting on something. 4 other check in points not attended. Over 12 customers waiting. Been 15 mins and 2 customers helped. Long wait, not enough workers at counter, taking long time to check them through. Workers look confused like they don't know what they are doing. Other employee is back and forth on computer but doesn't seem to be helping any customers. Employees are back and forth with each other as it looks like they don't know what todo. Absolutely ridiculous to have to wait this long for a rental that has been reserved. Waited 2hours!! And car wasn't cleaned very well.

There was a substantial line of customers waiting, yet only one person appeared to be handling check-ins. For a major airport rental location, especially during a busy travel period, this level of staffing is unacceptable and feels very unprofessional. Travelers arriving after delayed flights are already exhausted and trying to get to their destinations; having to stand in another lengthy line because the counter is inadequately staffed only makes the situation worse. Enterprise should anticipate passenger volume and staff the counter appropriately. A reservation should make the rental process easier--not become another major delay after a difficult travel day. Very disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, I had a major problem after returning the vehicle. On July 28, I received an invoice from Sixt for $614.25 for damage to the front passenger-side aluminum rim, described as a scratch. I am absolutely certain this damage did not occur while I had the vehicle. Unfortunately, I did not think to take pictures of all four wheels when I picked up the car. When I contacted Sixt to dispute the charge, I was told that Sixt was not required to provide proof that the wheel was in perfect condition when I received the vehicle and that documenting the condition of the car was my responsibility. As a result, they refused to remove the charge. This is extremely frustrating. I have rented cars from many companies over the years, but I have never experienced a situation where I was charged hundreds of dollars for damage that I am confident was already present--and then told that the burden was entirely on me to prove otherwise. My strong recommendation: use extreme caution if renting from Sixt. If you do rent from them, I strongly recommend taking a video of the entire vehicle before leaving the lot, along with individual photos of all four wheels/rims and every part of the exterior and interior. Do not assume that any existing damage will be properly documented by Sixt. The initial rental experience was fine, but the way this damage claim was handled has completely changed my opinion of the company. I will not be using Sixt again.

When we arrive to the counter, there was not a lot of people in front of us, but unfortunately, there was only one assistant. That one assistant took a very long time assisting the customer he was with so we waited in line for about 30 minutes before being helped.. another agent, I'm assuming was on their lunch break, finally then arrived and took us. He went over some quick information and then while doing so we did ask if we could upgrade our vehicle, we had originally rented a Nissan rogue, but we did ask if they had any other cars, more high-end. We did have to pay a difference, but we were able to get the last Mercedes that was available. The process was very quick there after, we went down some escalators and then back up to finally reached the second floor of the parking garage. You're given a parking number and you look for that number on the floor, and the keys for the car or already inside.. you simply just load up your vehicle and be on your way. While you leave the garage, you do pass through a security gate, which takes photos of the vehicle front back sides, and top. Keep in mind that when you return the vehicle, the same process is done, and if the cameras pick up any accidents that may have occurred or any dents, they do talk to you about it.. the many times we have been renting vehicles from these companies we have never had any issues. They're great and we recommend them.

    - Hertz at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport…read more Overall, I had a decent experience renting from Hertz at MSP. I reserved a Toyota Camry Hybrid but was assigned a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid instead. I understand that rental companies generally guarantee a vehicle class rather than a specific model, but the Elantra was noticeably smaller and sat much lower to the ground than a Camry. At 6'6" with knee problems, getting in and out of the car was uncomfortable. Interestingly, even my shorter friends, who are around 5'8" to 5'9", commented on how low the vehicle was and said getting out of it made them sore as well. So while the car itself operated fine, it was not the most comfortable option for our group. As a President's Circle and Gold member, the pickup process was otherwise convenient. My name was displayed on the board, and I was able to walk directly to the vehicle without stopping at the counter. The signage in the garage was a little confusing. The overhead signs appeared to stop at one range of space numbers, while a separate floor sign pointed toward the higher-numbered spaces. I missed that sign initially and had to ask an employee for directions. The employee was helpful and told me to continue farther down the lane, where I eventually found the car. Before leaving, I took detailed photos of the exterior and close-up pictures of any existing damage. This was the first Hertz location I had visited where vehicles passed through the newer automated light-scanning system upon return, so I was especially glad I documented the condition beforehand. I returned the vehicle at approximately 5:00 a.m. Several cars had accumulated in the return area overnight, and no attendant was present to inspect or check in the vehicle at that time. About five hours later, I received an email confirming the return, and there were no unexpected charges. Overall, the rental process was reasonably smooth. The replacement vehicle and garage signage were not ideal, and I have had slightly better Hertz experiences at other airports, but nothing about this rental would prevent me from using Hertz again.

The employee at the exit had difficulty checking me out because, as he explained, the truck had not been properly entered back into your system or there was some other issue with the reservation. He asked another employee at the booth for help, but instead of resolving the problem professionally, she responded with an attitude. I told them they needed to fix the issue because I was not going back to exchange trucks or start the process over when the problem was clearly on Hertz's end. The employee then called a manager, who apparently made some changes over the phone. After several minutes, the exit booth employee was finally able to check me out, and I was allowed to leave. The entire situation was very embarrassing. Cars were piling up behind me while everyone waited, and I wasn't even the only customer experiencing this issue. There was a vehicle ahead of me that appeared to be going through something similar. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated experience. I have encountered similar problems at other airport Hertz locations as well. The level of customer service has declined significantly, and it seems that employee training is lacking. Customers should not have to deal with delays, confusion, and unprofessional attitudes because of internal system or operational issues. As a Gold Member, I expect a much smoother rental experience. I hope Hertz will address these recurring problems, improve employee training, and ensure vehicles are properly processed before customers arrive.
