We paid in advance for a compact SUV rental car for $385. When we went to pick it up they did not have any compact SUV's and told us to pick a any car for a different section. We asked if it would impact our rates and they guaranteed it would not. We selected the car and went back into the office and confirmed we could use that car under our current contract with no impact on price. When we returned the car, the agent met us at the car and said, "we'll take care of everything and send you a receipt." We handed him the keys and stupidly did not get a receipt. I received the receipt just as I got to the gate in the airport. They raised the price to $698. No explanation. I tried to call customer service and you are told to go to their website. When I landed I went to the Thrifty counter at our destination and he said he could not access the records for MSP rentals and there was nothing I could do. I filled out their website form an have heard nothing. I am a Thrifty Blue Chip member and am not able to talk to a human about the problem. You fill in the information on the form and get no response. I don't understand how they can almost double the price of a signed contract without reason. Furthermore, I can't understand why it is impossible to talk to anyone about the problem. If you rent from Thrifty, beware, and never leave the rental without a final receipt. read more

Customer service was absolutely horrible. When we picked up the car it smelled like smoke despite being told about their impeccable cleaning/sanitizing procedures. There was damage on the vehicle when we picked it up, but when attempting to report it in the manner in which they requested, the app, the app never functioned and wouldn't allow me to create an account nor provided any alternative way to report the damage. During my drive there was a storm and the windshield wipers weren't cleaning properly. I attempted to call the customer service line to discuss how to remedy the situation and the gentleman on the phone could not understand what I was telling him. I explained multiple times the windshield wipers needed replacing as it was raining and he in an attempt to repeat back to me what I had said stated that "the wiper blades weren't moving due to a snow storm". Uh... Not what I said, sir. I also requested that they confirm I would be reimbursed for the wipers should I replace them for my safety. He could not. I was told to save the receipt and to present it to the return location and I MAY get my money reimbursed. Later on the trip I attempted to call and extend the drop off 3.5 hours and when I called, the representative told me there was a hold on my contract and they would be unable to update my return time. They said they couldn't provide details about the hold or why and that I would need to discuss the hold with the location I was dropping the vehicle off, but they didn't have a phone number to contact them. When asked for a manager to discuss this further the representative attempted to tell me no manager was available and they couldn't help further. Three times she attempted this until I finally said that I would wait until one was available. I will never use this company again for any car rentals. It would have been easier and probably cheaper to buy a car and then sell it a few days later. read more

Turns out, because of the previous reviews I've read, that I canceled my car reservation through Priceline...the company that made the reservation. Priceline was happy to cancel the car and refund me the entire cost...and they were fine with me renting a car on my own. So I didn't use Thrifty based on the their past Yelp reviews. I have to say though that when I was picking my car up at 10pm at Hertz I'm the Minneapolis Airport... their was no one at the Thrifty desk...it looked abandoned. I made the right move. read more

3/25/24 - I went to pick up my car and was told I was being "upgraded" to a "premium" vehicle. This "premium" vehicle did not have any premium features (basic vehicle, no heated seats or steering wheel, no auto start, etc). On top of that Elliot's "upgrade" was an extra $60/day that was never discussed with me, had it been I would have declined the service. Thrifty's deceitful practice is unacceptable. The quote I got for the same car from the website was $40/day and I was charged nearly $100/day. Also you can't call Thrifty and speak to an actual person, I highly doubt I will get a response from their online form. I'll never rent from Thrifty, Dollar, or Hertz again. 4/2/24 - no one from the store or corportate has contacted me. I called them and found out I was "upgraded" because the car I rented was not available, so Elliot decided to charge me $200 more to give me a car I didn't want or reserve. Once again, I was lied to. Customer service has been EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL. I am so dissapointed in Thrify's business practices. I'm NEVER renting from them again. read more

We are waiting in line with about 20 other people and a single worker serving Thrifty, Dollar, and Hertz. It's looking like the wait will be over an hour just to get to the counter. I rented a car at MSP Airport and the experience has been a complete nightmare. First of all after finding the car rental area the Thrifty desk was closed. It sent me on a mile long trek followed by a train ride to get to another terminal where the desk was also closed with a note to proceed to the Hertz desk. The gentleman at the Hertz desk was unfriendly however he assisted me in getting a car. The car I received had low air in the tires and I had to stop and add air before I even headed out on my trip. This was also an inconvenience as it was after 1AM and the weather was very cold. Upon returning the car, I returned it to terminal 1 at MSP, to the Thrifty return area (as my paperwork all said Thrifty). It said it was contactless return so to leave the keys in the car and it would be processed. I did not receive any paperwork saying i returned the car because of this. I then began getting harassing phone calls saying I had not returned the car. I spoke to someone at Thrifty explained I had returned the car. I still received phone calls for at least 3 more days saying I was going to face charges and prosecution if I did not return the car. The phone calls finally stopped however the charge just that came through on my Visa and it had 5 days MORE then my actual rental as well as additional fees and a late charges. When I called Thrifty I was basically accused of lying and told it would take 7 days to determine if I was telling the truth and to issue a credit if one was due. When I asked for a direct phone number to the location to speak to someone about a resolution I was given a number that is disconnected. Renting from Thrifty/Dollar at MSP is always a poor experience. Counter staff are slow and often surely. Rental process and getting a car is excruciatingly long. Doesn't matter what you have rented, or how far in advance. The response is, "We don't have any cars right now. It will be a 1-2 hour wait." read more

Thrifty at Spokane Airport: Agent lied and told us that our Minnesota based AAA car insurance would not cover us in Washington State, And that it would be an extra $44 per day but he'll give is a military discount making coverage $23 per day, for the 8 days we had reserved it. We heard him tell the next person in line the same thing. Incorrect information! Gave us a crappy, dirty car with many nicks on it, not sanitized like advertised. Never again will I rent from Thrifty. Kept it overnight and returned it the next day to the tune of $116 for less than 24 hours. read more

We paid for a premium vehicle Impala or similar. All they had was a Camry with 40K miles on it. Not even close to the same category we were paying for. Front tires were very worn. We were attending a Denver wedding. Thankfully we were not heading into the mountains. read more

Took a business trip to Minneapolis back in May and booked a rental with Thrifty. Arrived at the airport after 11pm due to a late flight and found the Thrifty counter closed. There was a sign saying the Hertz counter upstairs was open 24 hours and to go there instead. So I went upstairs and found that counter deserted, too. I tried calling for assistance, but couldn't get a signal in the airport. So I ended up paying for a taxi to and from my hotel. The next morning I come back and finally get my rental. I think that's the end of my worries, but when I return the car several days later I find out the man who rented it to me added on extra insurance coverage without my consent. So now I'm out of pocket even more money. After multiple calls and emails, Thrifty does an investigation and decides to compensate me with a $50 voucher for a future Thrifty rental. Why would I want to use them again after this experience? Total joke. read more

After trying two cars before, one had expired tabs, the other didn't have gas, the rental car we got was filthy! It seemed liked it was actually somebody's car -- there was food under the seat, dog hair all over and it hadn't been cleaned in months. There were spills and drips on the doors and dash. I reported it, completed a customer complaint ticket, as instructed, called several more times and have not had one call back or email regarding the issues. Nothing. Very disappointing. Picked up my car around 9:30am in MSP. Booked direct on the thrifty website. No wait when I was there, I declined the pre-gas purchase and the insurance without any up-sell on the agents side which made for a better experience. I booked a luxury car but was not given a line-up of cars to choose from, they gave me a Chrysler 300. Not going to argue because Hertz would have been $100/more but you would get an actual luxury brand unlike Chrysler. It was a nice car, however. Returned it with no issues and carried on my way. Not bad if you don't have pushy agents, I just wish they had more selection of vehicles. read more

Apparently the company/its employees are incapable of looking at the number of reservations for a holiday weekend and then ensuring that in fact they have enough cars on hand to fill them. Our flight got in early but we have now been waiting for the rental car for an hour - and counting. Oh and on top of it the employees are unapologetic/rude. read more

The WORST car rental ever. I suggest you go to a different company. All of their cars aren't reliable , there's something wrong with it and no one is there to fix the issue. My friend even had her things stolen from the car she rented from them as she was exchanging it due to having a car issue ( I would have gone bananas on them but she's a better person than me). I rented a Infinity from here from Dec. 20-27th, 2017 in Minneapolis, but upon arrival was sent to Terminal 1 Thrifty to get the car when we flew into Terminal 2. Expedia bookings are weird sometimes but they were nice at the desk considering it was Christmas But you should not need to run around between 2 terminals to get things done. But when we came back to return the car at Teminal one, I left my laptop in that car on the 27th around 6:00 p.m. and they went above and beyond! So needless to say it is o.k. in hindsight I had to do some gyrations when we arrived. My amazing husband went and got it and walked from Terminal two to go and get it, but the crew there at Thrifty/Hertz Terminal One were so awesome and fast I just cannot thank you enough! Because of their patience and kindness and willingness to look for this right away and we did not miss our flight because of it, I will do my business with them from here on out because of their fast attention. Thank you to whoever helped this husbands wife on Dec 27, 2017 with her new laptop that was left in the back of the Infiniti that was indeed a huge gift! Please give these employees a raise or anything you can do for them! read more

Do not rent a car from Thrifty!!! Worst customer service!!! This has been the worst experience I have had with a car rental. Problems from the start!! I made reservations online through priceline but my quoted price and reservations was not honor. I was traveling with my dad who is sick with liver disease so he can see his doctor at the hospital inDuluth. He was in real bad shape and could barely walk. I bring this up because the reservation attendant insisted that my dad would not be comfortable in a compact car ( Nissan) that I reserved. I told her we are only traveling 2 hours and we just want the car we reserved. She said she has that exact car and that it would not be ok for him. I told her if you ha e something else for the same quoted price then I would take that but I don't need to pay more and I don't need the insurancethat they offer. I finished with her at the counter but she didn't take any payment then. She said she would call us up when the rental was ready. An one and ten minutes later she calls us up, the shows me the rental receipt and there is insurance. I tell her I have the insurance she asks us to wait again then calls me up and tells me she put us in a better car that my dad will be comfortable in because the other car just would not be good for him.she would not let me have the other car I get the bill and of course it's more but at this point I just need to get my dad to the hospital so I give her my card we wait 20 more minutes because they have to clean the car. I told her again I can just take the other car that's ready but she wouldn't do it. Finally the car that she insisted that I take was ready. I get that with everything going on there is longer wait time but her insistance that I had to take this other car is absurd!! Along with her refusal to allow me to have the other car. But that's not all, I rented the car for eight days but I had to change it because I needed to fly back home earlier. So I call to change, I'm return the car 4 days early the price difference was only 35 dollars off from my 8 day rental because of change fees, which is ridiculous. I had a 5:30am flight so I bring the car back to the return location that morning at the airport there are no attendant just a sign saying where to park and to leave the keys in the car, which I did and parked in the right location under the thrify dollar sign at the airport and went home. The next day and every day after that I start seeing charges on my bank account. I call customer service every day and all they can do is email the location asking them to close it out. Then 3 days later I get nonstop calls saying I have not return the car. I call them back every day asking for them to do something about it they send emails but it's still not resolved. Absolutely the worst experience and customer service from the attendant and the customer service department. From the customer service department only one of the people I spoke with seem to care the rest of the agents were rude, short and could care less about the situation. read more

It all went smoothly. I only dealt with two people when I picked up the car, the guy who took my information and told me where the cars I could choose from were, and the guy at the gate who checked my paperwork. Neither person was exceptionally outgoing, but they were quick and efficient in getting me on my way. The car, a Camary, was well maintained and cleaned and worked with no problems. The guy who checked me in when I returned was more friendly than the other two I dealt with. He provided me a quick receipt and gave me directions for getting to the terminal. So no complaints from me. read more
