Rented an EV from this location last week. First off, the rental agent told me basically that they (Avis) doesn't know where the charging stations are located in El Paso, and thus I was "on my own" when it came to finding one. You would think they could provide at least a list of nearby charging stations to help EV renters. She also told me I had to return the car with at least a 70% charge to avoid penalty fees. Second, and this is much more serious, the car I was given had only a 17% charge when I got into it. Mileage was limited to ~40 miles, and all EV owners know that when an EV gets below 20% it doesn't like to go much further. I was forced to immediately search for a suitable charging location - in 100 degree heat with the A/C off to conserve electricity! I finally found one about an hour later and then had to sit in the car for over an hour while it charged up. This lengthy delay meant I would miss a much-anticipated scheduled lunch with my daughter and grandson, whom I hadn't seen in almost a year. I contacted Avis about this problem while the car was charging up and was told I needed to take it up with Avis AFTER the conclusion of my rental. So I contacted Avis and the best they could do for me was offer 1 free day of rental the next time I rented a car from them. Fat chance I'll be taking them up on that offer - in my book, the risk it too great that my next rental experience will be just like this one and I'll end up missing an important business or sales meeting. Let me repeat - THE RISK IS JUST TOO GREAT THAT AVIS WILL RENT ME A CAR WITH LESS THAN A FULL "TANK" FORCING ME TO FIND A PLACE TO CHARGE ASAP!. And given Avis's feeble response to my problem, the message is clear - THEY DON'T CARE! One final comment about my experience... The car I rented was dirty on the outside (clean inside) like they forgot to wash it. It also had numerous dings and dents in the body, nothing serious, but it made me wonder if I was going to get accused of the damage. There was no "walk-around" with an agent when I got the car so there was no way to prove the damage was pre-existing if they had made that accusation. Just an FYI for others, in case you rent from Avis and get a car with pre-existing damage - take lots of photos before you get in the car so you'll have some evidence that the damage was pre-existing. I do not recommend renting from this location or any Avis location, the risk is too great that you'll be greatly disappointed. read more

All i can say is WOW Avis. I picked up a car at the El Paso airport Avis. Someone would assume that paying for an upgrade would include a clean immaculate interior. Wrong! The car i got was very clean on the outside. The inside was filthy dirty. The door panels were dirty, mats were dirty, console was dirty, dust on the seats and dashboard. The passenger seat was sticky and the middle console was dirty. The car had a very strong cigarette odor. To top it off there was a face mask sticking out of the sun visor. It was very obvious that the interior of the vehicle was hot cleaned at all. In addition to this i was charged for gas even though i returned the car with a full tank of gas! Hi had a very good experience here. i'm a preferred member. i bypassed to counter lines. the only hiccup was i waited a few minutes for a car at the preferred counter. they were sending them out as fast as they were being turned in. mine hadn't been washed, but it was hardly noticeable. Terrible. I rented a compact car and they gave me a 16 passenger van, even though they had multiple other cars available. I returned two days ago and they still haven't closed out the rental or sent a receipt. The person at the desk was very rude when I asked why I couldn't have one of the other vehicles. They don't answer the phone, so you can't get any resolution to your problem. If you call the El Paso number, you either choose to speak to the national call center or it simply hangs up. I had to open a case with the national office to hopefully get a receipt. I will never rent from Avis again. read more

This Avis location was, without a doubt, the most disappointing experience I've had at any car rental agency in the western United States. Despite being a Presidential Preferred member, I found that the supposed perks of this status were virtually nonexistent. It was clear that the loyalty program didn't offer any tangible benefits that justified the hassle or extra cost. The service was nonexistent, the vehicle I selected wasn't there, and the overall experience was frustrating from start to finish. El Paso Avis congratulations because of you I have dropped Avis as our preferred rental company. Bravo! Stopped by National and was in a car in less than 8min. In fact, Avis seems to have devolved into the car rental equivalent of a budget airline like Spirit Airlines, where low cost comes at the expense of quality, customer service, and reliability. It's disheartening to see a company that once prided itself on customer satisfaction now offering such a substandard experience. Here it goes, my wife had to travel to El Paso from Virginia to pick up a family member and drive them back. We purchased a one-way ticket to El Paso and rented a car from Avis for them to drive back. Long story short, things didn't work out as planned and the family member decided to stay in El Paso. I called Avis customer service and explained the situation and asked if we were to return the vehicle back the following morning if we would get some sort of refund. I was told that how early the vehicle is returned we are going to be responsible for the entire $1,000+ bill. Avis apparently does not understand that life happens, and plans change. The fact the company was unwilling to work with us is shocking. I actually called customer service twice just to fact check the information the first representative gave me, but sadly both the representative presented me with the same information. For a national car rental company their business practices are lackluster. If you google Avis, the company overview states "Avis Car Rental and its subsidiaries operate one of the world's best-known car rental brands with approximately 5,500 locations in more than 165 countries". That statement that Avis makes about themselves is a load of shit. Best known, ha. From this point forward they are going to be known as thieves, corporate mongrels and opportunists. I would rather pay extra and go with another national brand like Enterprise or Hertz then these thieves. People, save yourselves the headache and just go with a company other than Avis. You book 450 reservations on a Monday. You hope to be successful by over working one CSR in the preferred center as almost no cars get preassigned. You have to wait 1 hour in the preferred center line to get help then are told no cars are ready so here is the car you will get when it's ready. Then you go stand outside and wait for cars to be shuttled over 2 at a time. No other rental locations had lines like this. Several gave up and ditched Avis to go through another brand. This location tends to have issues. If I had a choice I would never pick Avis in El Paso as the leadership has never been able to demonstrate the ability to handle the volume. I'm surprised any employees stay as they are over worked and have to deal with frustrated customers. Real leadership would be on the floor helping customers. When I asked where they were the response was I'm not really sure. They did offer to call them but I wasn't about to add that stress to the guy already having a bad day. read more

I got in from Berlin Germany last night, after 21 hours of traveling I reached the Avis counter where I was met with incompetence. So apparently my reservation was made with a Spanish code (Not sure what that means) but they said that they could not help me or rent to me due to it being a "European" country code. So I had asked if they could change the code or rebook me. She could not. Two ladies working around 8 PM on 2/24/2024 said there was nothing they could do for me. I tried to rent on my personal card, and she told me a number. I ensured I had the correct amount in my account and she said sorry that she couldn't run the card again because it declined. She had run it for a number larger than originally stated. So after speaking with Avis this morning on the phone, customer service said she could have and should have rebooked me at the counter and changed the country code. They also said if I had my itinerary, passport, and DL that there should have been 0 issues with rebooking me. Not only did I have all of that I showed it to the lady, who said that if I had that info she could rebook me. But when I did show it to her, she quickly changed tune and said she couldn't help me. Terrible service. My company primarily uses Avis, and after this incident we will not be using your services anymore. Currently on the phone with customer service (Again) as I write this, letting them know how poor the service was as well. 3,000 people who travel two weeks a month, will not be using your services. I know that doesn't matter to you. But let's do the quick math. 2 weeks, 14 days. 2 x 450 (Average cost of renting per week) = 900. 900 x 3,000 = 2,700,000$ you'll be losing Avis because of how incompetent your support staff is at this location. read more

This place is always a mess. Preferred customer or not be prepared for long delays, lots of mistakes, incompetentce, and not getting the car you reserved, and maybe even prepaid. In the latest Avis El Paso customer screw over they put us in a very unsafe car. The front axel was practically falling off in violent shaking above 40 mph. When I returned it to get a replacement, the staff explained that they were skipping their normal maintenance checks because they're too busy and out of cars. While waiting over an hour for a replacement car I saw four other people return cars for maintenance problems. This isn't an Avis it's a fly by night operation with an Avis logo. I travel all over the place and never have I encountered such a horrible, unsafe, inconvenient, car rental operation that puts customers last! Rent elsewhere. read more

Apparently Payless is an entity of Avis? Because I booked through Payless but ended up at the Avis desk for service. And, not at all impressed. Not only was it a pain to book- almost NO vehicles available! But, I didn't even end up with what I booked after waiting a painfully LONG time to get the PRE-RESERVED vehicle. Glad I got to the counter before the line behind me appeared. There was one person in front of me and that transaction took well over 30 minutes. I was done in less than 10, having pre-booked. But, found myself waiting nearly an hour in the garage for them to bring the car... which wasn't the vehicle type I reserved. Suddenly a full size sedan is now a full size SUV?? Asked for the equivalent of a Jetta... got a full size Ford Explorer. It wouldn't have been bad, if the vehicle didn't come with massive issues. The touch-screen is broken & haywire. Absolutely useless & beeps constantly because it isn't functioning. Don't even try to plug your phone in! That feature is also haywire. There's a lot of "clinking" & odd sounds driving. Borderline mechanical issues so you're kind of holding your breath & hoping nothing goes wrong. This may have been on the "cheaper" end, but you kind of get what you pay for here... I can't say I'm going to use them again booking the next one in the next city when I drop this off. Especially since I had to sit & wait over an hour in a dead airport for a pre-reserved vehicle that wasn't ready upon my arrival time even with my flight being delayed an hour, to boot! They wasted a lot of my time when I have a tight schedule to adhere to. And, the rental itself isn't very good or comfortable. Especially when you end up with something you didn't select. I'm not sure I'd take the chance and book with Avis OR Payless after what I experienced today. The ease of checking it out was great & timely, otherwise everything else needs some major improvement. read more

This Avis rental at El Paso airport was disappointing. I had no option but to book here due to limited availability with National. Upon landing I went straight to the rental desk near baggage claim to checkin, sign papers, and speed the process up a bit. The desk attendant confirmed and called for the rental to be brought to the garage with an estimate wait of 15 mins. I grabbed my luggage from baggage claim and made my way over to the rental garage. I waited over an hour for the rental car to be available. Very poor communication and mismanaged. I can understand staff shortages, but plenty of cars came and went. The business volume was low at most so there's no reason to have an hour wait after for a car that had been confirmed and documents signed for. The rental car was brought out still wet from the car wash and clean at least. Seemed mismanaged and I hope to never have to rent from Avis El Paso again. read more

Update to my last review of AVIS catastrophy. After much confusion and very bad lack of communication (AVIS employees) and my choice to halt charges by AVIS- I closed the credit card and reported discrepancy to my cc company. I will try and post the screenshot of my credit card transactions- one that you cannot see is the 1st pending charge of $206- which was the correct amount to be charged IF I rented the car for 4 days- which in fact, I did not do- and there is where the confusion comes from. I stopped payments after credit card statement showed: May 12 $206.00 May 20 $318.83, 316.17, -524.96, -524.96, 299.18. What? I cannot figure this out. The only communication I received from AVIS regarding this entire car rental and this 10 day fiasco was this morning- an ereceipt for a 1 day rental for $58. I wonder if this is where it ends? The El Paso airport is a small airport, so after they give you the keys your car will be waiting just outside the baggage claim area. LOVE that! This is a little confusing but Avis and Payless are one in the same. So we grabbed a car here and we were very happy with the whole process. Easy for the rental, no walk through with an agent to bog you down getting on your way and the car was new and clean and did not smell like smoke. And they were a fair price. To put things in context, let me preface my review by saying I'm a Preferred Avis member. After claiming our luggage, we headed to the Avis counter. There was a sign for preferred members to head straight to the garage so we did. They have an electronic board and it had my name and the location of our rental. I did chat with the associate though as I planned to return the car early morning. She assured me that it should be no problem as someone will be at the garage. The car was a bit dirty outside but clean inside. This was understandable as it was raining the previous days and that day. What matters is that it was clean inside. The car was in good shape mechanically and was trouble-free during our rental. I did notice that my Avis app was reflecting the car's vitals such as fuel level so Avis was monitoring the car. On return day, we showed up at the airport at around 4AM. The return lane was open although no Avis person. There was an airport maintenance guy and he said just lock the car and leave the key. We did and I dropped the key at the Avis drop box. We took a bunch of pictures of the car, where it as parked and of me dropping the key in the box as we saw other reviews that had problems turning in their rentals during off-hours. A very pleasant surprise was that, when we got to the departure gate, I received my Avis receipt showing when the car was returned and the fuel level (full tank) and that the rental was complete. I don't know if an Avis person actually checked the car in or if Avis had electronically detected the car and read off the mileage and fuel. This gave me peace of mind as my previous rental last year was not logged in as returned until a day later and cost me a lot of time with customer service and I didn't get a full refund on the extra day. Kudos to Avis as it has vastly improved the check in process. read more

On May 18 of this year I rented a car for 8 days from Avis at the ElPaso, TX airport. The car was very dirty on the outside and there was sand or a powdery substance on the floor of the back seat. We were running 2 hours late because of delays and had a long ride through the desert ahead of us so I decided to accept the condition and take the car. The next day, in the sunlight, I realized the inside of the windows were so fogged that when the sun hit then in a certain way visibility was compromised. Later in the week I noticed that a warning "Oil service now!" appeared on the dashboard whenever I started the car. Then, on May 25 while traveling at high speed on I-25 toward Albuquerque, the right rear tire blew. Despite fishtailing at a high speed I was somehow able to maneuver onto the left shoulder to avoid getting hit by another car where we were stranded for over an hour waiting for help to arrive. I just received my credit card statement which included a charge from Avis in the amount of $237 for repairs related to the tire. I am contractually obligated to pay this amount although I did nothing to cause the damage. I just drove the car Avis assigned me. In my opinion the condition of the car and overdue oil change indicate this was a poorly maintained vehicle and that was quite possibly the reason the tire blew. I will not be doing business with Avis again. read more
