1. Counter was closed and had to be redirected to Avis. 2. Long wait lines. 3. Clerk was rude and unprofessional; when confronted by a customer about their reservation, she stated they could go next counter to Hertz is they wanted. 4. Vehicles do not get inspected or clean. 5. My assigned vehicle was damaged on the exterior and interior. 6. Mileage was reported wrong, alleging I drove the car around 2,521 miles in just a day and a half. 7. No assistance at the lot. 8. Avis Budget group in El Paso...even the Avis Preferred service sign is covered up..at e because they know they cannot offer the level of quality promised by the service . The line moved through the customers at a consistent rate of about 8min per customer, but when you're the fifth person that adds up to 40min wait just to pick up a car...yikes. They even had two agents here. The agents were honest enough...even after the wait in line, they stated they were understaffed and that the car would be ready in 30min. If I were in a rush, I would not like to be time compromised by a rental car company. Also, and this one is on me, I selected this company as it was connected to my Southwest Airlines ticket...but the value even with a $200 hold was outrageous for a three day stay. First when you go to the Budget counter there is a sign saying to go to the Avis counter. After waiting in line for an hour in a fairly empty airport at the Avis desk, it took 20 minutes for them to hear back from the rental lot as to what's the status of the car. They finally hear back and I'm told where to go to get the car and it should be ready in an hour or so. They don't get how this happens when you don't have a reservation. If you do not have a credit card they will not take your debit unless you are local or flying out. They do not pick up the phone at ANY location and when they do it is someone that is not at that location. They too do not give proper information. They need to put on their website WHY THE AIRPORT DO NOT TALE DEBIT CARD. Please skip this one. We were rented an unsafe and damaged SUV. We did not see the damage until we arrived at our hotel and reported it immediately. Believing it to be cosmetic, we thought it was safe to drive the car. Two days later we saw there was a piece of metal in the tire at the same place it was missing trim. Now they are trying to charge us for damage to the car and also not refunding an Uber to exchange the vehicle which they towed because it was unsafe to drive. I was assured i would get a refund with the receipt. I have used Budget before with no issues, but I will never rent from them again. Terrible and unethical customer service. read more

When we asked for reimbursement they said that no one authorized repair which was a lie. Then they never refunded our deposit and they continued to give us the run around. Rental cars are not ready for anyone and it is a 2 hour wait if you are preferred or not to get your car.

Called Costco to verify I could drive the car from El Paso to Ciudad Juarez in Mexico they directed me to Budget. Budget corporate VERIFIED that I could rent a car in El Paso and drive to Mexico so long as I purchased insurance for $48 daily. Guess what happened when I arrived at El Paso? You guessed it, a very rude lady at the counter said, "You can't drive our cars to Mexico, you got the wrong info, there's nothing I can do". Didn't offer any assistance. Landed at 1030 call from the tarmac and nobody answers. Went straight the rental counter and the lights were off and nobody was there. Went upstairs and still nobody so I had to pay 2 cab fares and a hotel room for the night for a total of 170.00. Showed the next day and they were late arriving. I booked a car several weeks in advance for a 1 PM pick-up. We had plans for that afternoon for an event that closes at 4 PM. We did the paperwork exactly at 1 PM yet we still had to stand in their garage waiting for over 30 minutes before they gave us a car. There were plenty of empty bays in the garage where they could have prepositioned the car like everywhere else. I don't understand why the car was not ready when we booked it to be/paid for! The 30 minutes delay caused us to cut our afternoon event short. I'm not happy about this! Several other folks experienced the same thing. IS ONE STAR THE LOWEST YOU CAN GIVE? I am a longstanding budget frequenter and fast-break member, but I will tell you and everyone else to avoid this particular location as much as possible. I rented a vehicle had a quote printed. When my wife arrived to get the vehicle the up-charging by the customer service person (mgr) more than doubled the cost of the vehicle from $250 - over $500 based on insurance that wasn't even on my initial invoice. When my wife tried to go back less than twenty min later the other CSR stated that she could not undue the charges and my wife would have to return in the AM, seems very sketchy especially since I've had other similar adjustments done at other locations without a blink. I have great insurance and would not need this, nor Now do I need to be treated this way. PLEASE AVOID THIS EXPERIENCE! 11/29/17 Update, so today when the car was returned to the Budget at the El Paso Int Airport, not only were they extremely rude, they turned around and are charging $8.99 for gas despite the prepaid gas option being selected on the contract. When asked about the item the manager would not even come out from behind the wall and would only bark out instructions to the front desk staff. I thought it was weird how they changed their rate to 43/day after they quoted me 39/day. I would rethink doing any kind of business with them. They are con artists. They add on all these charges out of no where and then you end up paying more than what the other company promised you. I was desperate so I had to take their scam. I was very disappointed with my service here. After I reserved my rental with my Costco membership (which I have done about every 3 months at this same location for the past few years and never had a problem) they told me they would not honor my Costco discount because I did not have my Costco card. I even showed them the email confirmation to prove my membership. No one has ever demanded my card before or I would know to travel with it. I came in to El Paso after receiving a call that my now late father was dying. In my state of shock I only booked a one way plane ticket. When I got into town and after the funeral services I tried to get a plane ticket back and the prices were more than I could afford. I made my reservation with another company came to the airport and they didn't have a vehicle for me one way. They referred me to Budget where they were able to get me a car to get back home to Dallas. The agent Elizabeth was the reason for the 5 stars. If I could give her 100 I would. DO NOT USE THIS BUDGET! I will attempt to keep it brief, I made a reservation over 1 month in advance for a 4WD, they confirmed and quoted a price $450 (Winter Holiday Season). When we arrived I was told they only had compact cars, and it is first come, first serve? After 10 minutes of them telling me they could do nothing, I said either get me a manager or a car from another location. They told me it would be 1 hour, but they would. When we returned, we got a rate of $383 for a Silver, 2wd Hyundai Santa Fe. After walking in the rain, we found our WHITE Santa Fe, that later turned out to be All Wheel Drive (?). The car was not cleaned well, and within 1 minute the tire light came on. (We had to drive 2 hrs to a remote location). The next morning we awoke to a flat. (we had limited access, so I e-mailed Budget). By that afternoon a a star in the windshield turned to a crack. I repaired the tire and tried to stop the crack from spreading. (there were no Budgets close to where we were staying). On return I told them everything and filled out a report only to get a call from the GM Neil R. who fully explained away everything on their end and promptly told me how I got a nail in the tire, and how I cracked the windshield. I attempted to reason with him, mentioned my documentation and photos I took but he would have none of it and told me I have to pay for a windshield, but the they would not charge me for the tire. I told him that the tire light came on in the Budget parking lot, while I was doing 2 miles per hour? He was rude and didn't care to reason with me. When I told him that they told me it was a 2WD but was AWD, and we didn't know driving in the snow, he said AWD is automatic (?) IT IS NOT! It is a button on the dash. Bottom line I am disputing the charge and complaining to Budget, they are absolutely this was the worst rental experience in my life. And the manager did not care at ALL to try to make it right!!! DO NOT USE BUDGET in El Paso!!!!! (don't take my word look at all the other reviews, I wish I had). I found out in order for Budget to get involved, you have to book through them NOT the franchise. BUT when I was running late due to road work on the 10 Fwy In El Paso and I didn't have time to put 6 gals of fuel back in there tank. The attendant told me it would be a small charge. Yes just a small $9.00 a gal CHARGE. (TOTAL RIP OFF) The rental charge for the car was $91 for 2 days. The outrageous GAS charge was $81. Shameful, predator, conniving and disgraceful service by one rental agent who made all attempts to rip me off. She goes by the name Anna which one other reviewer had warned about. Easy to identify by her physique built on years of consuming high carbs. When picking up my car, I was told that she was unable to locate my reservation (because it was made through COSTCO) and that she is out of vehicles at the location. Her story changed by the minute by trying to sell me on a high end model that costs 3 times what I would have paid. The worst of her lies was telling me that Costco reservations were not accepted at this location. When I showed her the reservation on the Budget app, her story changed very quickly and was able to find me a deal (despite her original story that they are out of vehicles). When she realized I was going to call Budget dedicated rep for Costco reservations, miraculously she was able to find the same exact car of my original reservation. Beware of the predatory behavior of this agent -- Anna. Be ready to call the toll free number instead of wasting time trying to convince her that you have a valid reservation. The rental car building is right next to the terminals and it makes it so easy. El Paso is right next to Mexico, so take a free map just in case you get lost. Horrible experience with this car rental location. I should have read the reviews before booking. I had reserved a car at this Budget location through Costco. I was scheduled to arrive at the El Paso Airport at 5 pm. I missed a connecting flight so I called the Budget office at El Paso Airport and told them I would be arriving at 9 pm instead of 5 pm. A guy named Leo told me he would make a note of it. When I arrived at 9 pm there were no cars available and the woman working at the counter said there were no notes about me arriving late. Fortunately, I was spending the night at a hotel relatively near the airport and the hotel was kind enough to arrange transportation for me to get to the hotel. So my plan was then to return to Budget the next morning and pick up a car. The Budget employee told me she would make a note for her manager to make sure I would get a discount for my troubles. The next morning I arrived to pick up my car. Leo was working and claimed he had made a note of my late arrival the day before (he had not) and also made a statement about his fellow employee that I considered racist. At least they had a car for me this time. When I returned the car eight days later I asked to speak to a manager. The manager had no idea of the ordeal I had gone through even through I had been promised that she would be notified so that I could get a discount for my trouble. When I explained to the manager what had happened she at first refused to give me a discount. When I persisted she finally agreed to give me a 10% discount. I assumed she meant 10% of the full price, so I agreed. When she printed out the new invoice I noticed that she only gave me a 10% discount on the cost of one extra rental day ($4). I repeat, they DO NOT CLARIFY that they do not participate in the program. I was reconciling my credit card statement and noticed two large charges from Budget. When I called to inquire, they told me that the $144 charge was for refueling fee. I explained my profile takes the fuel option. At that time is when they disclosed they do not participate in FastBreak. Why hasn't his been disclosed previously??!!!?? They charged me $8.99 per gallon. Gas is under $2 a gallon. I argued to no avail and the manager, Carla even challenged me and did not feel it was her responsibility to disclose that their location did not participate in FastBreak. I even stopped by the check-in counter on the way back to the airport terminal and asked if I needed to show anything, i.e. receipt for gas, mileage... and they said "nope you're good". Management down to counter service are very unprofessional and lack education in tourism and hospitality . The counter help has a low level of education . You can tell by their behavior and responses . These workers are the ones handling high educated travelers.
