June 1, I rented a car thru Expedia one way to NJ. I waited in line for 30 min and was given a car that was dirty on the inside, smelled like weed/pot and moreover only had 1/4 tank of gas but was told it would have a full tank. Rather than make my way back to the counter and wait in a long line again I chose to document the fuel gauge and just return it with a 1/4 tank of gas. Well when I dropped it off in NJ they insisted it should have a full tank of gas and charged me $10.99 a gallon plus a bunch of fees!!! I objected and thought they should work it out between the Avis sites but the owner said they couldn't do that, customer service wouldn't allow them to do that and I had to call and address it. Well, now it has taken me multiple phone calls, emails and submitting documents. Meanwhile they charged me for the rental plus gas at drop off location and the original amount in Buffalo. So what should have cost me $142.47 via Expedia has cost me over $641 ($200 is refundable deposit, so they say)!!! Still trying to resolve the matter! Be wary! read more

My go-to National was out of cars online and decided to go with Avis Preferred. Forgot to check if this station (convenient, right next to terminal and baggage claim) has a locked area so keys can be left in the cars and you just get a parking number to pick up your car. This station is not secure (no check out process/gate) so you have to check in and get the car key from someone. There is small buildings in the garage to check in for Preffered members (similar for the other competitors). But understaffed and waiting in a long line appears to be normal here. :-( read more

Avis has got to be the worst rental car company in the world. I waited for an hour for a vehicle in Baltimore. Then rented another car in Buffalo and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. I returned it to the airport and they said it would be another hour before we can get a replacement vehicle. There is zero customer service and they under staffed. This was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had. We waited in line for an hour and a half--which, while frustrating, we accepted. But once we finally reached the counter, things took a turn for the worse. We were told that the class of vehicle we reserved was no longer available. Instead of offering a solution, the staff said we could upgrade and pay more per day if we wanted something different. No apology, no empathy--just a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. When I asked to speak with a manager, "Franc" came to the counter wearing a windbreaker with no shirt underneath, half-zipped. He told me that giving us a larger vehicle at a discount would "hurt his counter financially," as if customer satisfaction was irrelevant. I was stunned. It was clear he had no training in customer service or retention. To make matters worse, during my conversation with Franc, I overheard another customer--who arrived after me--being given the exact vehicle class I had reserved. When I pointed this out, Franc casually said, "We must have got one ready for them," as if that somehow justified the inconsistency. It felt like we were being treated arbitrarily and unfairly. We ended up taking the only available car they offered us. It was filthy--dirty windows, an unclean interior, and non-functioning windshield wipers. But since it was late, we had no choice but to drive it. The next morning, I tried to call the number provided on our receipt--(716) 632-1808--but it was disconnected. I then contacted Avis customer service. They took down my information with little concern and suggested I start calling other locations myself to try and exchange the vehicle. Who runs this company? I contacted Avis two months prior to my arrival at Buffalo airport to reserve a jeep as I have a disability making it difficult to get in and out of low vehicles. Fine, they said, "no problem." I confirmed it the day prior to my arrival. Again, no problem. But, when I arrived, it was nothing but problems. First off, there was the long line and painfully slow processing of their customers. Then, when I finally made it to the counter, I was told they had no Jeeps. But then, after over half an hour of arguing over alternatives, they suddenly, miraculously came up with the Jeep. But that's not the end of it. I then had to go downstairs and wait in yet another long miserable line to pick up the keys and Jeep. Overall, it took me two and a half hours to merely pick up a rental car. And then when I did pick it up, the exterior was unwashed and embarrassingly filthy. I attempted to reserve a vehicle through the website after finding an advertised rate of $51/ day for a Toyota Corolla or similar midsize vehicle. After going through the booking process, looking at rates, selecting a vehicle, then clicking "PAY NOW" to get the best rate, the page "snapped" with a message stating, Avis cannot process your request at this time, please contact Avis. This happened 3 times. The rate then went to $56/day, then $114/day. Nearly doubled! I immediately contacted customer service to explain the situation and to request that the original, advertised rate be honored. The first agent was receptive and agreed, but said she had to put me through to a specialist to get the original, advertised rate. Instead of receiving assistance, I was transferred to a "specialist" who was rude, arrogant, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. Their tone and attitude were unacceptable, and they made no effort to address the issue or to honor the rate I had clearly seen online. He told me rates change every 20 minutes, but I had spent only a few minutes calling Avis to inform them of my experience, and it was less than 20 minutes. It was an issue with AVIS'S WEBSITE! I then spoke with a supervisor, explained the situation again in detail, and was told there was nothing that could be done. Despite the fact that the rate discrepancy resulted from their own website malfunction, no attempt was made to correct the error or to provide any form of customer accommodation. I had already rented a car at AVIS for a month and simply extended my booking for another week. They already had my driver's license on file. Unfortunately, I lost my wallet before pickup and only had a photo of my license. The person at the counter was rude, unhelpful, and completely unwilling to understand the situation. Instead of trying to find any alternative or solution, they just told me to "talk to the manager" and left me stranded at the airport with no car even though I had already paid and was a returning customer. The car rental person who checks your car in on return (a supervisor no less) was unbelievable. She yelled at us to get out of the car faster. We had three kids with us and were getting ready to leave the car (it was cold we needed to get them properly dressed, car seats out etc). When I told her I don't appreciate her attitude she got irate. She was screaming and swearing including the f bomb and the security guard came over and just stood by. My husband who's in his seventy's told her to stop speaking like this in front of the kids and she shoved him. Yes she physically assaulted him. The security guard was there because this happens all the time with this woman - he told us that. I have never ever seen anything like this in my entire life. This woman is a total liability and a disrespectful pathetic excuse of a human. I have video of some of this and I hope Avis fires this woman. Very disorganized. Horrible customer service... no employees even present to help once you go down to the garage for 10 plus minutes.... Only a security guard that was no help. Eventually I found the car listed on our paperwork with matching license plate... but the keys were given away to someone else. An employee told us they didn't know and they don't go by the license plates? 30 plus minutes now still waiting for our car along with 10 other groups. No one knows what they're doing? No one has any answers? Everyone just standing around hoping to get some help... no help to be found. Update... we were given new paperwork and keys to a new car. Luggage in and almost drove off but checked paperwork and had some other customers name on it. Still waiting now one hour later. Apparently manager is on the way... read more

Never seen a more poorly run rental experience in my life. The line to rent cars is easily over 50 people long. Some have been in the line for over 90 minutes. No Preferred Member quick pick up (so had to go to the desk), unenthusiastic member, slow service and dirty car (either wax or road salt). either way it was 11:30 at night and i didn't want to spend the time to clean it myself. Slow check in, reserved class of vehicle not available, promised an upgrade but it wasn't an upgrade and it was dirty, couldnt see out of the side view mirrors for dirt and water spots, trash and food inside the vehicle. The gas tank was less than 3/4ths full, but after waiting so long and having the vehicle pointed out to us 100 yards away with zero attendants near it, we drove off and were charged for gas when returning even though we filled it up and the guage was less than 1/16th off of full when returned. I'm an Avis President's Club and Preferred Member and have been for many years. Avis has gone downhill system-wide, but this is the worst location. You can count on a wait that exceeds 45 minutes and interactions with employees that hate their job, hate you, and hate life. Ultimately you'll end up with a lesser car than you've reserved (or a minivan) that hasn't been cleaned very well. On 8/25/2024 I had a car reserved at this location (against my better judgment) and I stood in a line that didn't move. I finally decided to use a competitor's app and rent a car on the spot. I rented the car from a competitor, got the keys and picked up the car then came back up to the Avis line to meet a colleague and Avis had only served 3 people. Pictures posted are from before and after I reserved and picked up my car from a competitor. This Avis location consistently delivers a service experience that is so abhorrent, you'll leave convinced bad service is their objective. I've tried to reach the corporate leadership team but they don't acknowledge customers. Their arrogance and incompetence is a mirror image of their customer facing staff. If you rent from here allow for AT LEAST an extra 45 minute to an hour. More if you want a car similar to the one you reserved. It doesn't matter if you are Preferred or President's Club - You'll wait in the full line and you'll discover they actually hate Preferred customers even more than walk-ups. read more

We waited 1hr 40 min in line at the airport kiosk to be helped. Then we were given a pick up truck when we reserved an SUV. So we had to wait another 20 minutes for the SUV, which had very dirty windows and had brake issues and over 63k miles. Upon return there's an employee that screams a lot, and he thinks it's funny. They are very unorganized at this location. There is always a line at the "Preferred" area to pick up the keys. There is usually one agent in the booth to work the Avis and Budget rentals. The keys are never readily available. They have to find you in their system to determine if they have car that you reserved, available and, it's a hit or miss if the car is cleaned when you pick it up. The keys and car need to be ready for pick-up if you are a "Preferred" member. I travel a lot and this location is the worst I've come across when renting from Avis. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I've used National/Enterprise for over 20 years and have had 0 problems. This is my first experience with Avis and it has been hell. They gave me a bad car which broke down during my trip. I have NEVER had a rental car break down from the car companies I used over the last two decades. Secondly, if that wasn't enough, they claimed I returned my car 11 days after I actually did (overcharging me by $1,200). All went well until the return. I handed the key to an employee who said I would receive an email receipt. 6 hours later, no receipt. I have no proof it was returned, let alone undamaged and refueled. Wasted a lot of time trying to confirm with no help. I was told to wait 48 hours to see if I get an email. Avis doesn't seem to be aware that Sedgwick is negligent in resolving property damage to my car from hit/run accident on 6/20/20 involving Avis rental car. Sedgwick representative (April/Mike) are withholding repairs to my car until medical claim is completed. I therefore ask all military, veterans, first responders, clergy, churches, mosques, and all respective families stop using avis and budget car rentals. I'm a retired disabled veteran being bullied by these corporations. The worst rental experience I have ever had in my life. It took an hour and a half to get the car, the check engine light was on. I didn't leave the parking spot and to get another car that works , they had to cancel this reservation and open another. They charged me another 100 for the second reservation because they gave me a car that didn't work. An employee yelled at me when I returned the car because I took too long to get out of the car due to cancer treatment. They told me they aren't required to give their names so I don't have anyone to even refer back to about the car price difference. The customer service team told me they were crediting the rental and then didn't. I followed up and they said they didn't mean they were crediting it. I've never experienced a rental situation or customer service like this location and social media customer service for Avis: I don't even understand their responses. If you read the reviews for the location, it's common that it's the worse experience anyone has had with renting a car. I went out of my way to be patient and even tipped the person working 40 when I picked up the car after the 1.5 hour wait- simply because I thought they were having a rough day. read more

Just had an interaction with the heavy set fella working the counter at 1130pm on Sunday the 26th. We booked online to make his life easier since he already seemed extremely annoyed and we selected pay at pickup so that we can ask about our military discount since we were not able to do it online. Well we get up to the counter and he got annoyed at us that we asked him if he could help us with the military discount. His response "Well I don't know why you didn't do it online." And then proceeds to say "Idk why you try to book this online when I could have given you a way cheaper price here if ONLY YOU WOULD HAVE TALKED ME" EXCUSE ME!???? We literally are talking to you. I said it to him and my husband that we can cancel the booking and he can help us get the discount and he ignored me twice and proceeds to charging my husbands card saying it's like a $200 hold on his card and that its our fault for not speaking to him first. We literally were trying to make HIS LIFE EASIER! Listen were a miltary family and just took 5 flights to fly back home after being stationed overseas for 3 years. we've been in the air for over 36 hours.We have 5 Large Suitcases and each one of us has carry ons. Its almost midnight, were exhausted....sorry for trying to help move his long line a little faster by online booking. Avis rent a car WAS NOT Military friendly and this was a huge disrespect to veterans and their familes and on MEMORIAL WEEKEND.Not only did he refuse to give us a military discount he slammed the keys on the counter and then proceeded to yell at an asian girl who was behind us when the poor woman didn't understand English very well. It has been more than one year since this experience and I still could not forget and forgive. We flew in to Buffalo and the flight was delayed. Just in case, I called them to make sure they'll have the car ready and wait for us. They said yes. Came to pick up the car and not a soul to be seen. Slept in front of the pick up place because we had nowhere to go. When the ladies came in, refused to see us because "they're 20 min away from open time." The guy downstairs with the cars literally had to come up and tell them that these people have been waiting for more than 10 hours for their cars. I could go on and on about their shitty customer service, lack of support, and humanity. They were two old ladies, blond and brunette. Car was also in bad shape for the price that we paid. They also have a terribly policy regarding credit card and it has to be the same credit card that was used to reserve to pay for the car, which i believe is the stupidest thing ever. They would not give us the car unless we use that same card. Why?? My card fortunately worked again, but imagine if I have left my wallet at home. Do we fly back to Houston?? We rented a car to have a family vacation driving through New England, starting in Buffalo. Had to cancel our entire vacation on the fly, costing us an extra $1000, simply because they could not honor a reservation.
