Rented a car midsize SUV for a 4 day trip. At checkout my car was ready and the agent was friendly and very helpful. Even helped me figure out the radio controls (I tried on my own for 10 minutes) and didn't make fun of me or call me a boomer. Different agent upon return but was also friendly and helpful, even though the office was a bit busy. I usually rent at the CLD airport, but on this particular rental, Oceanside was $120 cheaper than CLD. I'll be renting here again. read more

My nephew , Rick, needed to get a rental car and I had added him to my CC as an approved user so he could get a rental. The car he got had a broken right mirror and the interior was dirty. He mentioned it to the guy renting it to him, he didn't even do an inspection like most car rental places , he just said don't worry about it. Rick took pictures and left. The rental was for a week. My nephew needed it for a few more days so he called and kept getting VM. Finally got ahold of a guy and told him the car was needed for 3 more days. He said he would update it. Unfortunately , shortly after that my nephew had a stroke and was in the hospital. I forgot he still had the rental car.. no one ever called, texted or emailed him telling him it was late. I was checking his phone When I realized he still had the rental car, I immediately called and told the guy that Rick, my nephew, was in the hospital and I would get the car and bring it back. I was surprised no one had reached out. Whenever I've had a rental car and was late bringing it back I've ALWAYS gotten a text or phone call. I don't live in the area so a friend drove me down, I got the car and we got a hotel room because it was late and we were about an hour away. I had never been to Temecula, where the car was so decided to spend the day and would drive back the following day. The next morning I got up and the car was gone. I thought it had been stolen, called the police and they said the rental company had towed it I called the Oceanside Avis again, explaining again that my nephew had had a stroke and I was bringing it back for him. I told him I had already told him this. He acted like he didn't know what to do and had to talk to his "boss". I told him I wanted to know where the car was so I could get my nephews belongings out. He said he didn't know. I told him well find out...but he let it slip that it was somewhere in Ontario. I googled Avis there ,we drove up there and there is a large lot with a fence around it and a guard. I asked if the car was there and they told me no, however I had the keys and clicked on the horn and ir began to honk. So they were lying. But wouldn't let me in to get the belongings out Long story, but finally was allowed a few days later to get belongings out. Thought that was the end of it. NOOOOOOO I knew he'd be charged for the extra days which should have been approx.. an additional $300 No, I've been charged, since the card was tied to mine, over $2,000 It's impossible to be that much. If I could leave no stars I would. Yesterday morning I arrived with my visiting, elderly, family members as they had rented a car to drive to AZ. Rental was for 8:00 am and we arrived before 8:00am. Arrived to a sign on the door saying be back at 8:10. Avis guy came, family member got the car which was the worst looking rental I have ever seen. Had scrapes and dings all over it! So bad that it looked like they had used white out to mark over the spots on the black car and then put black x's over the white out on some of the scrapes. My family noted the scrapes and dings and headed back in to discuss what he had found, however the guy was already gone again. I had seen him leave and door was locked again. Instead we just took pictures of the damaged vehicle. Terrible. Will never be back again to this rental location! read more

Worst rental car experience I've ever had. Cars were FILTHY, guy at the counter said it was because "their car wash was down and he was one person with a hand vac". Then he tried to charge me for a whole extra day because I was picking it up an hour early. Javier is great and made the whole process easy. Had a free upgrade ready to go for me and there were zero issues the whole time. They made it super easy when I needed to extend the rental by a day, too. Overall, I can't recommend Javier and this location enough. Reserved and paid for a car online the night before. When we arrived, there was a sign on the door that someone will return at 9:15am which was over a 30 minute wait. Absolutely horrible service. Javier was a completely rude to my 70 year old mother to the point of yelling at her. She complained about having a smoking vehicles when she reserved a non smoking. We returned it the following day as it was a nauseating to even be in. When we returned jt a day early and stated why. Buyer beware. Rental office has no lock box. You can only drop off vehicle during the hours they are open which includes 9AM to Noon on Sunday. To avoid an additional day charge we had to return the car in the morning. RED FLAG: Avis charged an additional $18.00 for NOT driving enough miles. Insane. This Avis is a shared space with Budget Rent A Car. I continue to rent because they're open on Sundays. The only way to describe the care they show their vehicles is poor. Without fail every time I rent the vehicle interior and exterior are filthy, even when they claim to have recently washed it. The exteriors have so many scratches and dents that the staff will breeze over and decline to note in their walk through report. I had to return a car because the brakes were grinding at every stop. I was told that was just the model of the car. Got it replaced with a car so much more dirty than the first AND with a key fob that did NOT have working batteries so I needed to manually lock and unlock the car. The prices are decent but not at the expense of safe driving options. Get it together Avis and Budget. Have some integrity in your service and products. read more

This was a very challenging day considering we had made a reservation for a full size car from Avis//Budget rent a car in Oceanside The gentleman name Lucas was in the office to help us with our rental We already have been charged for our one day rental So After arriving at Avis Saturday June 17th around 8:50 in the morning Mr Lucas told us that he doesn't have a full size car and he told us about small sport car with two seats The back of the car was too small for any extra person Of course after checking the car we told him the car is to small for us and we have made a reservation for a full size car He informed us that this is the only car they have At the meantime another costumer returned his small 4 door Honda So the car needed cleaning however we agreed to rent the unclean Honda We asked for some discount due to all the hassle we have been through Mr Lucas was offering us quarter tang of free gas The car was already quarter tang empty So in reality there was no discount We decided just to cancel our order and asked for our refund He told us that we have to call the cooperate office to request a refund I don't know how to express our disappointment Not only we didn't have a car Now we could not even get our refund and we had to take other steps of calling different office for a simple refund on our credit card What a challenging day Super unhappy with the whole situation read more

Do not use Avis for your car rental needs. We used the rental option with Amazon and you're promised a 10% Amazon gift card upon return of the car, and that never happened. Every time you call they tell you a different story. The third time I was told the rental didn't qualify for the Amazon card because it was international even though it wasn't international. They offered a 50.00 dollar credit but after being told so many things I really don't want to be locked in to using their company again. The vehicle we rented had a lot of problems and reverse didn't work all the time and the car was dirty, add that to less than desirable customer service. I will try and stay clear of Avis, and I hope no body else has to go through this frustrating situation. read more

UPDATED - I am moving this review from 1 to 3 stars because Avis sent me an email apologizing and saying they'd follow up with the staff at the Oceanside location. ORIGINAL POST - I was not informed AT ALL about how to pay toll road fees and went to www.thetollroads.com and was notified by that third-party site that the rental company needed me to sign up with the car information BEFORE I rented the car to pay the fees without an admin fee. When I was at the location I told Dennis, who I think is the manager, I was driving hundreds of miles (to Compton and then Lancaster) and he never mentioned signing up on the toll site ahead of time to avoid the extra fee. He also was a jerk. The other two guys working there were super nice. I called the Avis customer service and they were no help. ALSO didn't see any security cameras? Surprising since the cars are in a shared parking lot in a high-crime area. Next time I'm using the Hertz by Frazier Farms instead. read more

We decided to rent a SUV with AWD for our trip to Flagstaff AZ instead of driving our FWD sedan. I booked with Avis because their rates were the best for a SUV. After booking the reservation I called the Oceanside location to request the AWD. I spoke to Javier and he said he would do his best to fulfill my request for the AWD. When we picked up the car in Oceanside we were fortunate that they had a Buick Enclave with AWD. It was a luxury car, loaded with a lot of horns and whistles. Nice quiet ride with no road noise. We were so thrilled that Javier had a AWD for us because we really needed it in Flagstaff and Kingman where there was a lot of snow due to the horrific snow storms that went through the area the day before we arrived. Thank you Javier for the great customer service and for fulfilling our request for the AWD vehicle. We will definitely be back for our next road trip. read more

Been renting cars here on a regular basis with no complaints until recently. First of all, the economical car rental we requested online was not honored during the day of rent. We were informed they gave it away as an upgrade to someone else because they didn't have anymore compact cars available in the lot for that person (a white teenager girl with cutoff denim shorts, whom they were continuously flirting with). Additionally we were informed that we were getting an upgrade instead because they no longer had anymore economical cars available in the lot for us to use. The two male clerks insisted we should "be happy with the upgrade." However, the car they assigned to us was not in anyway an upgrade because it didn't fit the profile we requested, which would accommodate 5 people and 3 luggages. The clerks who were present said their names were Darrel and Jose. They even gave us a key and had us sign documents before informing us the car we requested was no longer available. Thus, showing proof these two conniving thieves had no intention of honoring our online booking. Secondly, on the day we returned the rental car, the clerk Jose said he would take off $25 from the original price of about $140 if we topped off the gas tank. I topped off the rental car with a full tank and was given a statement that $25 was taken off my rental charge, bringing the total down to about $120. Well a few days after reviewing my credit card charges, it showed that Jose never brought down the rental charge, but instead ADDED additional charges bringing my total to about $164. I tried calling the Avis office today to speak to the supervisor or owner of this Avis franchise (whom we've been dealing with in the past). However, my call was placed on hold and dropped. Called again to no response. Never renting from here again. I know a lot of business suffered from the covid regulated shutdown, but to take advantage odds returning customers like ourselves to recoup losses? That's simply unacceptable. These clerks may need their jobs, but they need to learn to practice honesty and better customer service work ethics. read more

Spoke to a person sitting outside and stated that the person in charge has been on breaks all day. Call the number on the sign and no answer. As a 14 year preferred member with 25-30 Avis rentals a year, all over America, I do not not typically give bad reviews of anything, THIS IS THE WORST AVIS i've ever been to. And I have to use them unfortunately quite a bit because they're the closest to my home. The cars are always dirty, they rarely have the car that you request, the customer service is terrible. Of the last 11 rentals that I've had here, I've had issues on nine of them. With either the service desk of with the car being dirty or less than full. The last time they refused to change the ticket to show (G7) which means 7/8 of a tank. Stating "it will be fine" and that bit me once before because it wasn't fine when I got to the return. I was charged a fuel charge even though he said he would change it in the computer. This time I insisted on waiting for him to change it in the computer and he made me wait till all the other customers were helped even though they came in after me. Then he "supposedly changed" it to G7 but refused to print the contract showing me the change. I despise that I have to use this company because my company insists on us using Avis. I'd rather walk. Pros: this location is open on Sundays. Cons: I reserved a compact vehicle on a Saturday. Paid $53 for one day. The car I got was pathetic. The appearance of the car was dirty, had tape residue around the doors and dents all around. The driver door looked like some one once had tried to break it. The performance of the car was dangerous. It would hesitate to accelerate making it scary when getting onto the freeway or passing on the freeway. It sounded like the engine was going to blow up. I will never use avis again. Well I haven't given anyone a 1 star rating but the AVIS Rent A Car on Oceanside Blvd. pretty much forced my hand. I had made reservations online for a weekend rental and included I would be renting the car at 8am. When I arrived Friday morning, I walked inside and there was no one there to help me. I triggered the door chime and waved at the camera hoping someone would emerge from the back but no one came. About 10 minutes later, the attendant cruises in the front door with his McDonald's breakfast and coffee. He got me my car and even though I had reserved an intermediate car, he gave me a Hyundai Santa Fe. I didn't need the bigger car and he didn't ask if it was okay but I don't like to complain so I took the car even though I knew it would cost me at the pump. There was a ton of dead bugs on the windshield as well. I still would not have written this negative review had those been the only issues. The true slap in the face was when I returned the car. Stated hours on Sunday are from 9am - 1pm. I was at the AVIS office promptly at 9am along with another rental customer. Guess what? No attendant again!! My ride showed up (and he was in a hurry) so we walked into Starbucks and grabbed a couple of coffees to kill some time while we waited. Once we had our morning caffeine, we walked to AVIS and the rental clerk (the same one from Friday) had arrived. I handed him my keys and contract and he proceeded to move my car to the lot and while we stood on the curb and watched, he moved other cars and checked mileage on other cars which I feel could have been done after he assisted me. When he finally made it back inside, he wad typing and writing and trying to fix a printer but said nothing to us. After a few more minutes passed, I asked him when I could get my receipt and why it was taking so long and he immediately got loud and defensive and said not to argue with him, I told him how poor his customer service was and how unhappy I was with the rental experience. Since my ride had to get to work and he couldn't produce my receipt, I asked him to email me the paperwork and he could not do that either. I told him I would be back before 1pm to pick up the receipt and that it should be ready the moment I walk through the door. I returned a few hours later (another inconvenience) and he did have my receipt ready but it wasn't entirely correct. I let it go though because I was through dealing with this sorry excuse of a man. So if you are in need of a local rental, do yourself a favor and avoid this Avis location at all costs. They clearly have a complete disregard for their clientele by putting this yahoo as the lone employee on the clock. There is a Hertz Local Edition that is 1000% more professional across Oceanside Blvd and down a couple blocks that I had used in July and was satisfied. The used one of my cards to make the reservation and the guy swore that I could pay using a different card (I had to use a credit card to make my reservation but I wanted to pay with debit) When I went to return our car the lady in the front desk told us that we it was been already charged into my credit card (witch I never gave permission to use) and she spoke to us in a very rude way. I had a good experience here at the Oceanside Avis. I used a coupon and got a great rate for an "Intermediate" car. I reserved the car online and prepaid, I was asked if wanted additional insurance but declined the charge. I was not charged anything additional, after reading other reviews here I was really concerned about that. Both of the employees that I had contact with were polite and friendly. They were kind enough to give me a pass to park my car in the lot right out front. The only reason I have given four stars instead of five is their rental car choice. I received a Mini cooper and the car was a bit dirty, the floor mat was stained from a previous rental and the steering wheel had some type of gunk on it. Maybe it was not cleaned from a previous reservation? I've never driven another Mini Cooper before but the employee said something to the effect of "It's made by BMW" honestly, I did not know what to expect. I drove over 140 miles and the ride was horribly bumpy. I know that all roads aren't in the best shape but It made me feel as if something was wrong with the car. I just chalked it up to the Mini Cooper's design and went on my way. The car was cute, fast, and otherwise had no other issues that I could discern. I would rent from this Avis again, though, next time, I will pay for an upgrade. ^_^ read more

What a disappointment. From the moment I picked up the car which was dirty. The only cigarette lighter in the vehicle for power was not functional. Great! Only a three plus hour car ride ahead where I would need my navigational device and now no power source. The real frustrating part was upon returning they did not have a final invoice or receipt for me. I was informed it would take 24/48 hours. What? Why? When I informed them of the issue with the rental vehicle I had they responded with "thanks for the heads up". Wrong response! I responded with I don't think this is adequate. The vehicle you rent should be fully functional and clean. I asked for an adjustment or credit and the clerk said they were unable to process one and that I will have to call customer service. I called the moment I left and a customer service agent gave me a whopping 5 bucks off a 100+ rental bill. When I finally did receive my bill they charged me a late return fee. When in fact I had returned the rental an hour early. Apparently their system defaults to this if you return early. Now that's ridiculous. I called again only to have to have the second issue rectified. When I asked about the first credit they had not applied it and it was not applied. The agent had to figure out why and it actually could not be applied for some random reason. I waited patiently and they finally removed the charge and credited me. I won't be returning to AVIS. I rent quite a bit as I prefer to keep the mileage off my vehicles and love driving different makes and models. Be aware of billing issues and don't let them pawn off a dirty vehicle on you. I was pressed for time and had no time to wait for the wash and vac. Lesson learned. read more

Pretty disappointed with my experience here. The only reason I gave an extra star was for the guy working behind the counter. They do not inspect the cars at pick up or drop off therefore you are not liable for any damage to the vehicles, which is great if you're planning to beat up the car, but it also means you may end up with a beat up car... They also don't clean the cars. The one I rented was dirty on the inside and out. Stains all over the cup holders and what I think was bbq sauce on the steering wheel. Took me 1 minute to clean it up with some wipes, the fact that they don't do that on their own is beyond me. Oh and this also means you can smoke in the car without a cleaning fee! So if you're a smoker, slob, and plan to beat the crap out of your rental car then this place is for you. Spend the extra $5 and go somewhere else for a better experience. read more

He deserves a promotion! I needed two separate truck rentals on different days for moving. Both times went smoothly. Not squeeky clean, but right for the price. Note to anyone moving, the 12 foot truck does not come with a ramp. Either be able to life everything fairly high or get a bigger truck with a ramp. No fuss. No anal truck inspecting. I rent cars on a regular basis for work trips out of town. After terrible experiences at other rental car companies (not having a car even with a confirmed reservation and other such nonsense), I started using Avis. Not only do I get great pricing, but Alan is great. He takes a little time to warm up but even still, he's courteous and prompt. In all my rental car experiences - no one has gotten me in and out of the door with this type of quickness: I always decline the added coverage and there's never a hassle. Sometimes, you can tell the car hasn't been cleaned/checked since the previous driver (once I found luggage in the back that someone had left!)....but other than that - no complaints. Been using this location for more than a year, for at least 20 separate rentals, and don't se myself going anywhere else as long as Alan remains at the helm! read more

They get one star because I can't give less. I booked a car through Travelocity. When I went to pick up, they had a power outage and were doing everything hand written. The representative couldn't find the car I reserved, so they gave me a more expensive one (I had no idea). Avis charged me $667.65 and refuse to refund me. They want me to dispute the lesser charge with Travelocity. They take forever to respond and are not helpful AT ALL! It's been 24 days! I would rather walk than rent from them again. read more

Since I am relatively new to the Oceanside area, I randomly chose this Avis Rental office on Oceanside Blvd, in the center just east of I-5. I needed a car for a planned trip to Arizona. First, don't let the size of the office throw you off.....it is small and quite barren in appearance. Lots of commotion going on when I walked in because there were people being helped with the rentals and people returning their rental cars. There was only one employee working and he was hustling in and out and back and forth helping everybody. A little chaos, but the employee was right on top of it all. I observed that he was very professional and doing quite well despite the situation. His name was Dennis and I must say he was very good in getting me and the others through the process. Although it was a bit of a stressful period, he never let on that he was stressed. On returning the rental car, Dennis was once again working alone...and once again he was cool and pleasant to work with. I definitely will use that Avis office again in the future. read more
