I found this place by accident. I went to the avis on emerald dr. in vista and had a horrible experience. We waited for her to come into the building for several minutes and when she did, I could tell she was irritated. As a first time renter, I had a few questions and I asked one and immediately walked out. She quoted me over $500 and didnt ask how long or what car. I happened to be driving in the area by my home and saw the Avis sign. I decided to give it a second chance and I'm glad I did. The representative that helped me was Allan. He was extremely helpful and eased my anxiety of planning my cross country trip. He booked my rental and I got the same rate the same day of pick up without paying ahead. I even came back a few times before pick up to ask questions and to look inside the cars and he did not mind. I asked about discounts and he helped me get the cheapest price. on the day of pick up, the car was too small so the other representative upgraded the compact to suv for $4 more a day but then gave a helpful discount as I only had the previous rate on my card. He also helped me chose between the suvs by looking up the mpg's to help save gas. He too allowed me to look inside each car to see which was the best fit. There were two regular customers inside that even commented on how awesome they were. When I returned the car it was so easy. I did not have to do anything but fill up the gas. No washing or vaccuming and the whole process took 2 minutes. I am overly happy with their customer service and I hope they are still around for my next trip. so much easier and cheaper than flying or taking a personal car. read more

DO NOT GO TO THE VISTA LOCATION! The Vista Avis counter clerk Cynthia is rude, lazy and unprofessional. I had a reservation but this Cynthia (brace yourself very unprofessional appearance ) she decided to close 1 hour early and tell me to come early back tomorrow. I decided to take my 1 month fully insured midsize car rental to Oceanside. . and gave my business to Allen.. Allen's location was filled with 3 customers. Allen was soooo helpful. He couldn't believe the other location let a month rental with full insutance walk out. HA Ha Cynthia, we will be doing this 3-4 times a year, no wonder Vista was a ghost town with someone like Cynthia behind the counter. I watched Allen handle 3 customers at once. He knows his business and how to treat customers. .. and Allen was able to save me $100 by applying a discount through my American Express Costco card! Allen you rock! read more

i agree with all the poor reviews. it's a BAD rental agency location. i have complained to Avis Corporate twice, but they could care less, never a response. so, Corporate let's them get away with it. i only rented there because there are only 3 rental agencies available thru Costco in my area and Avis always has the best prices by far. but, no longer. will probably try another Avis location again because of low prices and see how they do. read more

I reserved a car with Avis using my debit card and got a confirmation number. When I went to pick up my car at the Oceanside Blvd office they wouldn't take my debit card. I showed them my reservation and the debit card with which it was made, but no luck. Avis straight up lied to me. I called Enterprise. They came to the Avis office, picked me up, took me to their office and got me on the road with a car in 15 minutes. I used the same debit card that Avis had lied to me about taking. The Enterprise office staff was fantastic. I got the collision protection only and wasn't pressured to buy ALL the other insurance. After a flawless 3-day rental and easy return, I signed up as an Enterprise Plus member. I'll be using them from now on. read more

Had a great experience with Avis Oceanside. Reserved a Toyota RAV4 or similar and got a Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4!! Talk about an upgrade. Very easy process with no hassles, employees were great. Will get my rental car here from now on even though I live in the La Costa area of Carlsbad. Car was a little dusty but almost not even worth mentioning. Great overall experience. read more

Rented a car last minute for Saturday/Sunday and the agent behind the counter was exceptionally nice and accommodating, listening to our wishes and even incorporating the wishes of our little daughter, who was particular about what car she'd like to have. Due to change of plans, we dropped off the car early, and he didn't even charge us for the second day that we had made the reservation for. I recently gt married- this required a move and I needed a moving truck to do so. I rented from this location and from the begging the guys here were outstanding, professional and courteous. After renting the moving truck and upon turn in I got to talking with the guys here and explained that I was looking to rent a large SUV for my wedding instead of a limousine, they explained that they could help and rented me a Ford Expedition. They were very generous with the rental and again their service did not disappoint. From time to time I have family come in from out of state and we all need vehicle rentals every now and again.... This location has become my go to place for vehicle rentals in San Diego and there are many businesses that would be wise to learn from their great customer service. read more

If you could give negative stars I would. I booked this through Costco travel and thought I was good but no, I was running late and they gave my car away, I was told they would call with in an hour with another car, they never called. The next morning when I called them the person who answered, Lugi, was rude, uncaring and still no car. Then I read the other horrible reviews. Stay away from Avis. read more

Almost didn't go here because of past Yelp reviews, but they were above and beyond helpful to us. We dealt with 3 different employees and had an overall fantastic experience. Maybe this location was having troubles previously but they have been more than resolved. read more

Nick at this location is amazing. The sole reason for this 5 star rating is due to employee, Nick. Nick who seems to always be there at any time that I have come in and he is customer-service forwarding very honest and forthcoming. Helpful and very patient to make it a point to make sure satisfaction is a priority. I called the corporate office of Avis and I couldn't get my issue resolved in an expedient manner and Nick was more than helpful to resolve my issue with integrity even though it was not his responsibility. Go see Nick and I will be certain that he will make sure you are happy from pick up to drop off. Also I left my garage door opener in the rental and of course Nick was quick to recover on my behalf and get it to me. My husband is active duty military member and says he is not accustomed to this level of integrity and work ethic outside of the military personnel and he will send all new PCS incoming families to Avis to see Nick. I hope Avis and the respective investors understands what an asset they have in Nick. read more

The people work for them are great. However, when making reservation online, you will get a reduced price for paying in advance via internet, but if you return the car few hours early even with a full gas tank refilled, you will be penalized with a huge extra charge. Unless you detect this extra charge from your credit card and/or on the receipt, and let them know, then they will promise to refund the extra charge as a courtesy. Haven't seen yet and in dispute from the credit card. read more

This place ripped us off! The man was rude, they didn't have the car they said they would and they lied about needing their insurance. If you have full coverage you can use your insurance. When we looked at our credit card statement , they had overcharged us. They said it would be put back into our account, but it never was. Never go to this dump in Oceanside! read more

This staff is absolutely amazing here. Easiest and most pleasurable place I have ever rented a car from. Always willing to accommodate unless it means the next customer will be inconvenienced, that means if you're looking for a bigger car than you booked, they won't punish you for wanting it. So I booked a rental online threw Avis which I've done plenty of times where I live (Central California), I read the online agreement about prepaid transactions regarding the deposit. Online it stated when prepaid, the deposit is $100. So I went in and from the moment I walked in, the guy sitting at the counter just seemed iritated that someone came in (probably because the sign on the door says Will return in 15 mins). Anyway he asked if I knew the policy for the deposit and I said yes and repeated what I read online. He then stated that they would need to run a credit score to determine if I was eligible to rent a vehicle from them. WTF? Are you serious? What does my credit have to do with my driving? He stated Oceanside had a higher standard than San Diego and blah blah blah whatever BS he continued to talk. Excuse me I didn't realize there was a discrimination standard for one city to the next. I have rented from Avis in Bakersfield, Visalia, San Diego, Chula Vista and NEVER EVER HAVE I HAD A PROBLEM! NEVER HAVE I BEEN TOLD A CREDIT CHECK WAS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE IF I'M TRUSTWORTHY ENOUGH. I called the better business Bureau today and I am also looking into who I can report this to for discrimination, probably should call the local news. There is nothing in their agreement stating this ridiculous need to determine a rental based on my credit especially when you had no effin problem taking my money in the first place! That guy was rude and a plain jack a$$! Don't waste your time with this clown! Avis is not a bad company but they definitely have a bad branch representing them. Find a different Avis since this jerk doesn't even like to work or have business with his 15 minute sign. read more

Just said, "We don't have a shuttle" and walked to the back to take a personal call. I've only lived in the area a few months, so I had no clue. Only giving this place 1 star because I have to. DON'T EVER RENT A CAR FROM HERE! The guy that works here is awful! My dad and I made a reservation through Priceline. When we got to the store to pick up the car we waited 8 minutes for the computer to start working. No big deal. The guy asked if my dad wanted insurance and I told him and my dad no. Explained to my dad in front of the guy that my dads regular car insurance also covers rental cars so, there is no need for insurance. The problem started when we went to pick up the car. We pulled into the parking lot to return the car 5 minutes before we were supposed to turn in the car. Only to see the guy walk through the parking lot, hop into a black Mustang rental and drive off. We walked up to the door and found a note that said, "Be back in 15 minutes". We waited. A couple arrived and waited with us. When the man returned, he helped the couple first and then us. He handed my dad the paper and said "your total was $215, your all paid up and good to go". Long story short. I walked back into the store and waited while the guy helped 3 girls. He rudely interrupted himself talking to the girls to ask me if I had a problem. I asked him why the bill was so much, that our online reservation was $144. He got even rudder and said because my dad got insurance. I said "he didn't get insurance". The man was almost yelling and said "I am the owner of this location and I rented him the car, he got insurance". I said well "I was here when he rented the car and I'm the one that told him he didn't need insurance. Couldn't believe the way the guy was talking to me. Never ever have I had someone talk in that tone of voice to me. We walked decided it wasn't worth it since the guy is the owner and so rude. DON'T EVER RENT A CAR FROM HERE! read more

The staff at this Avis location are friendly and efficient. I rented twice recently from this location and their fleet was top notch, clean and well maintained. If you want to rent a great car at a good value, this it the best Avis in the area! Can't say enough about the awesome crew here. read more
