In regards to fleet, AVIS tends to have nicer, newer vehicles in their fleet although you can get better premium brands/models thru Enterprise and Sixt. Up until recently, my experience with AVIS has been mostly positive; however, their infrastructure seems to be showing its age now. In the app, I have reported multiple times that while it shows your available rewards balance the screen that would normally have a toggle for you to select how many points you'd like to redeem has not functioned properly for MONTHS. They've done multiple updates to the app and every time I leave the feedback, both in-app and on the App Store that this functionality is broken and they have yet to remedy this. Secondly, their website and app are a train wreck. There was one day when the app was showing no available vehicles at all. And eventually I decided to try it from the web browser and then it showed inventory but how many people did you walk that day because the app was showing no available vehicles so they went to a competitor? Additionally, trying to do simple tasks like using their online tool to request a receipt it loads and loads then times out. I call to get a copy of the receipt and they say it's sent and I explain I have yet to get anything and their response is their systems are slow and you should get it eventually. This is after the first agent I spoke to told me I dialed the wrong number (even though this was the number on that part of the website, 18003527900) and the number she gave me was for Budget who promptly told me I had the wrong number and call that previously mentioned AVIS number for support with this. This highlights an issue with mergers and starts to feel like your "support" system is setup to run customers around versus actually resolve issues. I recently filled out an incident report for a rental and have yet to get any documentation from AVIS - not even a receipt for the rental showing it was closed out. When you call support they tell you a third party handles these (Sedgwick) and they give you a number and when you call them you get the runaround from them as well. That would be my feedback for AVIS - evaluate all these processes and simplify them and remove friction and runaround. read more

Terrible, sadly I didn't know they are scammed who take advantage of people. Riddle me this. If my reservation says it includes insurance but you ask if we still want insurance, knowing its there. For what reason would you do that. I know, because more than 50 percent of the time you ask the significant other who doesnt know anything about the reservations, hoping they cancel it, so then you end up having to pay triple the amount later when you realize you dont have the insurance you originally paid for. I'm seeing a lawsuit brewing. Zero stars. read more

Terrible experience with this specific location this franchise. The representative that helped me at the desk was unwilling to speak with me in a helpful manner. The manager that was on duty completely ignored me and decided to just hand me a card and continue to move along his way rather than see how he can possibly fix the situation. The car was prepaid online and I was not able to pick up the vehicle due to a policy that is not openly disclosed that there is a credit check for a debit card when there is a hold on the account. Being stranded at the location they did not offer to see how they can possibly help Instead. Never had a terrible experience until this location. Had to walk for over an hour as there was no vehicle available. It has been seven days still have not received a refund for the prepaid vehicle. Called customer service and keep being told that it's 3-5 days for the refund. They can't do more. Would not rent from here again. read more

I've been waiting a week and a half for customer service to get back to me regarding a charge to "handle" a ticket I received while renting their vehicle. I have no problem paying a ticket whatsoever. My problem is that Avis NEVER contacted me and charged me their handling fee before even charging for the ticket so I'm paying extra unnecessarily 4 months after I even rented the vehicle. If they can charge a card at 6am EST they can find someone to respond to correspondence. And a long as it took me to find a place to write my review and seeing all the poor reviews already listed I'm sadly discouraged this will fall on deaf ears too.​ read more

I canceled a reservation in accordance with their policy and received a confirmation with an email stating that my prepaid fee would be refunded within 3-10 business days. it has now been 2 months and they refuse to refund my money. customer service continues to tell me 3-5 days and I'll have my refund bit nothing happens - they continue to stall. it is impossible to get a straight answer from them and they lie to you - do not do business with them. I've been renting cars extensively for over 35 years. In Avis JFK there is a manager named Baldeo, whose service is uparalelled ! He is super efficient, cheerful and friendly. Above all, he is out to help the customer in a way that I never have encountered anywhere else. Avis done the right, I needed to lease a car for an employee for about a month. Went to enterprise rent a car first they refused to release me a car, because my add own driver had an out-of-state license and a debit credit card. This is the first time I've ever heard of in an own driver meeting a credit card. I was purchasing it my license my credit card, but anyway. Avis done the right and extend the lease for an extra few weeks, they let me keep the same rate. I'm going to forget enterprise ever existed. Avis is my new title holder. This weekend, I rented a mini van from Avis and THE TIRE FALLS OFF the van at highway speed! Went sideways on route 80 in Pennsylvania, ALMOST FLIPPED OVER. Praise God I was able to get the vehicle under control. MY FAMILY WAS EXTREMELY SHAKEN, HAPPY TO BE ALIVE! Called Avis roadside assistance and waited on hold after navigating automated menus. While on hold, called 911. The police arrived and got AAA on site BEFORE Avis roadside assistance was able to help. Once my family was in safe location, the Avis solution was for me to limp the van 219 MILES home with a damaged wheel or wait 3 hours for Avis to tow a vehicle to me AND I PAY FOR TOWING BOTH VEHICLES AND THE ORIGINAL RENTAL CHARGE!!! After two hours of back and forth with Avis providing every alternative BUT PROVIDING A SWAP VEHICLE, I limped the van to an Avis location to speak face to face with someone. Reluctantly, the location swapped the vehicle, I think because they realized I was not going away. Please check out the pictures of the damaged wheel. The way the outside of the tire came apart in one whole piece, it looks like a retread to me. What kind of rental car company would put a retread on their wheels? The worst. I came in to exchange a car since mine didn't have an ez-pass. Kevin Bendzin gave me the filthiest car that was dinged up and had a huge hole on the back seat. I understand beggars cant be choosers but to get a car in such condition is completely unacceptable. When I asked if he could at least clean it, he wiped the windows but the rest of the car both inside and outside was left as it. Kevin told me that because his location is a franchise, he doesn't make a dime on me so I can essentially "take it or leave it." Wow, just wow. And Im a preferred member... You should be ashamed of yourself to represent Avis. I had to waste another two hours going to corporate location in Wayne where they took care of me and the guy there told me that the car Kevin gave me is not rentable and should be quarantined. read more

NEVER!!!!! Go through AVIS car rentals. They are a completely unacceptable company period. Their customer service team could care less about you or your situation. You talk to one representative who makes you go to another representative, and another, and so on. I was stranded in the middle of the desert in a no cell service zone due to their faulty vehicle. Finally get to a call box to set up emergency roadside service. I was told the tow truck would be able to take me and my friend in the truck by Candi. When the tow truck driver showed up he was not notified at all that her was taking passengers. Thank goodness this gentleman was a third party tow service. He was kind enough to let us ride all the way back to the original rental place. From there I had already prepaid for the rental car, but AVIS hit me with a whole new charge. Then I get a letter in the mail with this extremely large bill for car damage, roadside service, and administrative costs. So I called AVIS, spoke with Laura Noris, she directed me to a supervisor Charllet Lee (first name may be misspelled) who went over the rental agreement that I signed and the charges were valid. They did issue a refund to my account for the original prepaid amount. I was very specific about not being able to pay the fee within the one week time frame; stated in the letter. She told me that it would try to charge regardless but if declined I would just receive a letter to pay the full amount. Low and behold they charge my card and exceeds my credit card limit. I call my credit card company to see what was going on. Since it's Saturday and this situation is unique. I have to wait to speak with a specialist on Monday. After that I call AVIS to see what they were going to do about the penalty fees. They told me there is nothing at all they would do to credit me. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST service company I've EVER gone through. So PLEASE heed my warning to not rent or use AVIS. You may have to pay a little more for a different company but, It's WORTH it!!! read more

After two similar experiences here within a 5 week period, I feel compelled to comment on the unbelievably rude employees that work here. Given that there are both Hertz and Enterprise rental locations within a 5 mile radius of this location, why would you endure nastiness and not fully clean cars and comments like 'I'm busy you'll have to wait til I finish this' before they'll even look up to help you (on the first occasion) or 'I'm looking at this car here, you can drive around the back' when asked to unblock the driveway so my boss could leave after dropping me off to pick up a reserved rental car (on the second occasion). Cars are clean & nicer models & cheaper at Hertz and better online deals at both Parsippany Enterprise & Hertz locations. read more

I was sure to be armed with a discount code from a website that I had searched for before I went to rent from avis. They do not tell you (because they want to make as much $$ as possible off of you) that if you are insured on your own vehicle that you can drive their rental under your car insurance. When I stated that I had my own insurance the rep at the desk had this weird look on their face & said that I would have to make a claim under my insurance had I gotten into an accident with their rental. The website had a number of different discount codes (none of them were expired) & when I read them off to the rep they said the codes were accepted at their location. Are you kidding me? Then the rep tried to give me about a 3% discount when I read off a 25% off coupon code to him. They should be grateful that I am giving them business. I can easily go to Enterprise, Hertz, Sears etc. I'm driven to find a discount code that they accept or else I will take my money elsewhere. read more

This is not directed at this location specifically however being that the president of Avis Budget Group in charge of North and South America according to their Website is based out of this location I am using it with the idea that perhaps someone can explain to me the ridiculous nature of the letter I received in todays mail? Let me clarify - I have spent well over 20k dollars with this company in the last 24 months and like I stated in my last review the locations and the people that work there I have never had issue with. They have always been helpful, speedy and respectful. Especially the Danbury, CT and Poughkeepsie, NY locations. Back to my reason for visiting today ...... after many months of paying for a service!!! I received a DNR letter today with no explanation, no number to contact the company with and no means of clarifying this other then an email... The email being donotrent@ - first of all I think that the email address is disrespectful and unprofessional at the very least. Secondly this is a business account and I cannot imagine treating a loyal customer with such disregard. Especially because you have competition you are not the only game in town. Why would you intentionally turn away good steady and profitable business. Even if there is a "reason" it most certainly is a misunderstanding and could be cleared up with a simple phone call. You have all my contact information and have never before hesitated to contact me if there was a question. I find this means of informing a client you no longer wish to do business with them inexcusable and severely unprofessional. My company has always paid on time and very rarely do I find myself not in agreement with your charges this however will lead to me informing everyone of my friends, family, colleagues and clients not to use your service. I am in the process of termination my business account with you and will be taking my business else where as you so eagerly suggest. I would however as a business person that takes the art of customer service very important suggest you reconsider this method of no longer renting to customers. Should you wish to discuss this further I would be more then happy to provide you with detailed records, receipts and total payments made to your organization. With this in mind its sad but I would suggest you stay clear of AVIS/BUDGET especially on a business agreement. read more
