DO NOT RENT FROM THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY!! My friend broke his foot NOT related to a car accident (surgery out of hospital trying to figure out next steps now that driving isn't an option), THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON SAID CALL 911 AND HUNG UP. He wasn't in a car accident and said it 3 times before she hung up on him. Called back, went straight to a supervisor at this point after navigating their incredibly complicated phone system. The supervisor then told him/us it would be $400+ to have the vehicle towed back and early termination fees. Again, he didn't hurt their car, he got hurt in a training accident. Received a car that the low tire pressure light came on. Checked the tires. Almost bald the driver's side rear tire had a dime size hole bearing core. Called customer service. They arranged a trade. Went to the location on Crockett. Unfortunately, Adam, very pleasant, explained he had no trades and he was frustrated with customer service repeatedly sending customers his way . The paid for , $49, garmin navigation system, couldn't find several locations we searched. It even sent us down a one way road. HORRIFYING! Fortunately we had a cell phone to help us out, but we paid for something that was expensive and disappointing. read more

Technically, we rented with Budget, but this is the same company, same counter, same cars. Same not very good cars. We had reserved a compact car, and initially we were given a relatively new Kia (maybe a K4? I had never heard of the model). We went outside to wait while an employee inspected for damages, and it was freezing cold. Eventually, we could get in the car, except it was so badly parked that I barely could get in. Once I turned the car on, I discovered there was a warning about needing an oil change AND a tire pressure light on. (Probably the tire pressure light was due to the change in temperature, but still the company should manage these things.) I asked for a new car that didn't have multiple warning safety lights on, so we were offered a Chevy Malibu. I have never had a car that needed to be pulled from the fleet the way this Malibu did! First, it had almost 60,000 miles on it. (I didn't even know they kept rental cars that long!) It was beaten up like madness -there were dents and scratches all over it. The carpet was peeling up in the corners by the doors. It was, to put it lightly, a piece of junk. We also discovered later that there was all kinds of trash under the seats and in the door jambs. They had no problem renting this car to me, though. In its defense, it ran perfectly fine, we had no warning lights, and we made it out to the Hill Country and back with no issues. It was a bit of a gas guzzler (much worse than SUVs I've driven), which made me wonder if it did have some issue, but whatever. It served its purpose and ironically, we were coded as having a "free upgrade." Ha! read more

First of all with Avis they send you email and email of free up grade, 25% off. So, i order a car online, i download the app so I can just get the car. But, the app that it heavily suggested for me to download didn't have my reservation. So when we got to San Antonio the agent tells me that he can't find my reservation that i have already paid for. Buttery credited it back and charged me an extra $100 for the same reservation and also double charged my credit card. When calling in they say there is nothing we can do. So I am doing what I can, I disputed the charge on my credit card and also took off the app because why use something that is broken. So what out everyone for Avis they will try to steal your money read more

We stayed at the Marriott across the street from Avis (mall). I called this Avis location even before we flew in. The person that answered the call was very pleasant to talk with and he did my reservation flawlessly. They very accommodating too. We rented a car twice, two different models. The cars were very clean and in the newer end. We enjoyed the cars. Highly recommend. The process to reserve and return the car was very easy. read more

Do not rent from Avis! Booked my reservation online in advance so I checked in on my phone while waiting in the long line. Get up to counter and decline all the extras and collision. Get my car and it's filthy. Passenger door doesn't close properly and the back fishtailed like it had frame damage. I check my account and I thought they had double charged me, but it turns out that the gal at the San Antonio Airport charged me for collision when I declined it. That is stealing. I have called customer service requesting to speak to a manager only to be told to wait for a call back in 24 to 48 hours. I had to take the first car back they gave me for another, because I flew in to San Antonio to help my elderly father and couldn't even close the passenger door properly. I have yet to receive a call from a supervisor and have called them five times over the course of two weeks to follow up. I was charged over $1,200 for what should been a $450 rental. I will be reporting them to the BBB and any further action needed if this is not corrected. I don't know how a business can operate by stealing from people. Shame on the owners of Avis and employees who think this behavior is acceptable. read more

Avis rental car is the worst. My daughter booked a car to pick up in San Diego and drop off in San Francisco. She had a confirmation email and confirmation number. When she arrived Avis refused to honor the price on the confirmation and told her it would be triple the price. She waited 2 hours outside the office of the manager, Viral Desai. I called and explained the situation to the secretary who put me on hold and never came back. I waited 45 minutes on hold. Viral finally come out of her office, was rude and refused to honor the price. She then left the office for lunch. read more

Got told oh well we are keeping your $150 dollars and no your reservation can't be uncanceled even though it was never cancelled to begin with . This has been the easiest way to rent a car in my entire life. I went to yelp for recommendations, choose my company, filled out an online reservation. I went the next day, went to the receptionist, gave her my reservation number, my ID and paid. I got the car and vuala!! I was driving in no time in San Antonio. Car was clean. Never buy the optional services from Avis. And if you do, read the fine print. So I was in San Antonio for a family friend's graduation from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland. I wound up needing to rent a car to get to Lackland for the graduation and got a good deal from Avis except for the "gasoline option". The manager at this franchise of Avis sold the gasoline option as a money saver by saying that the gasoline option would keep you from having to hunt for a gas station near the airport and would give you a lower gas rate at $2.50 per gallon compared to a charge of $3.50 that Avis would charge you if you returned the tank partly empty. It sounded good, but the devil is in the details, so I asked manager how exactly the gasoline option worked. He said, that you just return the car, and you get charged $2.50 per gallon up to 13 gallons max. It sounded good, so I agreed to it. After reading the fine print later, what he neglected to tell me was that you get charged for 13 gallons of gasoline no matter how much you use at the rate of $2.50 per gallon, and none of it is refundable. Even if you just use one gallon of gas, you still get charged for 13 gallons worth. In my opinion, the manager purposefully made his statements ambiguous as to how you would be charged under the gasoline service, and he definitely neglected to be forthright about the fact that the charges would be nonrefundable even if you didn't use the entire 13 gallons. As soon as I realized what I was really being charged for the gasoline option, I called the manager and told him that I felt that the gasoline option was misrepresented to me, and that I would be lucky to use 4 gallons of gasoline. I asked for a refund of this option, and the manager refused. He claimed that he didn't have the authority to refund the gasoline option. I wound up stressing about this during my trip to San Antonio which put a damper on the graduation festivities for me. Finally, I called the corporate number for Avis to file a complaint, and they pretty much said "yeah we can reverse this". They also said that I could get it reversed when I returned the car if I had a receipt to show that I paid for a full tank of gas. Luckily, I was returning the car to a different Avis location and didn't have to deal with the manager at the location that I originally rented the car from. You be the judge. Would you want to rent a car from that guy? Lessons learned: Don't take any options from rental companies and read the fine print before signing anything. Oh yeah, don't trust the counter guy (at least at this location). read more

Scheduled my reservation months in advance online. At first I was hesitant, but found this expierece very easy. Called a couple times just to verify the reservation, all good. When we arrived, got the car quickly and we were off. The Avis team at the Rivercenter Mall were friendly and professional and I would diffently use them again. Once at the airport drop off, we just pulled up the associate scanned the barcode and that was it! We were extremely satisfied with their service and treated us well. Very bad customer service. The guy working was named Vincent. He was very rude, sarcastic and condescending. He also claimed he did not know what he was billing me for "it's for whatever they are charging, if you don't pay then you don't get the car" that was his answer to a politely asked breakdown of the charges. His goal was to upsell and use intimidation to persuade you not to ask questions. I will not go back to this Avis as long as he works there. Absolutely do not use this place. Chris, the "owner" has zero customer service. We had a van with 7 people in it and a malfunctioning air conditioner in San Antonio July weather (geez) -- so we went to get another one at this location. Chris would not give us the one they had because he said they could probably rent it. He said there was no guarantee that the airport Avis would bring him another if he needed it. He would not even pick up the phone to call on our behalf to check. Chris ... this is your job, guy. We paid for a working van and have to deal with this because your "franchise" did not want to hassle with it. Thank you for nothing. Not okay. Horrible. Way to go, Chris. Came here for a 500+ family reunion. We're happy to spread the word. Beware folks ... this Avis franchise does not go the extra mile for customers. So ... we now must go the extra "miles" to make this right at another not-so-close location. Do not use this place. They don't deserve your business. This place is lacking in customer service. At the counter, we were never welcomed,, thanked for our business, nothing. The manager seemed frustrated to be there. On our trip that week, the car broke down more than 800 miles from home. It took Avis more than 5 hours to bring us another car from over 150 Miles away despite the fact there was an Avis less than 30 miles from us. No explanation was given. When we returned this new car in San Antonio, we explained to the same manager we were returning a different car because of the breakdown. He NEVER said I'm sorry to hear that, NOTHING. He promptly responded, "Did you fill it up with gas?" SERIOUSLY? That's it? I am very understanding and realize that a mechanical problem cannot be foreseen, but really? No apology? We had called Avis customer service and they did credit us for one day rental. I asked the manager if this was reflected on my final bill. He told me I had to take it up with customer service. Horrible. Despite the fact I feel totally robbed for my experience here after spending over $600, I am more embarrassed and sad for the fact this is what Avis calls service. I am telling all of my professional colleagues, family, friends, everyone, never use this Avis location. Never. read more
