Worst rental experience of my life, do not recommend this location and this was the first time I've rented from Avis but the first car they gave me smelled heavily of cigarettes and I ended up taking it back since the smell bothered me. The vehicle they exchanged it for was great until it wouldn't start the next morning and ended up making me late for my work conference. There was an electrical issue with the key that couldn't be resolved and instead of helping me or brining me another vehicle I had to wait hours for a tow truck to take the car and me to Ohare to exchange the vehicle. The most they would do is credit me for one day and this significantly derailed my trip overall. There are better rental companies for the price Avis charges. Their lack of customer service and failure to maintain their vehicles will make them a never again company for me. read more

We rented a van from this location. When we received the van it was absolutely filthy, there was no windshield fluid which we did not find out until we were driving, and the van is in dire need of shocks. Needless to say not only was the ride disgusting inside the van, it was also extremely uncomfortable. We highly do NOT recommend renting a car from this location. Not the best experience. When I called on the phone to make a reservation the woman explicitly stated that it would be this Golf Road Avis location. When I showed up, it turned out they had put it into the computer incorrectly somehow. There was no car waiting for me here, but instead on the other side of Chicagoland. Instead of honoring my initial reservation quote, I was charged an additional $50 (totaling $200 for less than 5 days) for a vehicle I didn't want. I frequently rent card for work and there's a big reason I rate this Avis rental location 4 stars. It's all about timing. If I'm renting a car and I can pick it up and drop it off during the day, there's a different car rent near my home. This location, however, opens earlier (7AM) and stays open later (7PM) than most locations. In addition, THEY ARE OPEN ON SUNDAYS. I find it convenient to be able to rent on a Sunday for a Monday morning trip. I am an AVIS member (as well as most other rental companies) and I get a fair price. They have plenty of cars, and they get me to my car very quickly without all the upselling of insurance and gasoline (unlike another rental car company that incentivizes their employees for the upsells). Renting cars isn't necessarily fun, but this location has made it convenient for me and it's appreciated. read more

first off, they didn't have my first 2 choices (civic or corolla)...ok, so i got stuck with a kia forte. not a huge deal but disappointing. but the exterior was filthy (inside seemed clean but i highly doubt it was sanitized, as advertised- i'll explain why soon) and i had to add windshield washer fluid because it was nearly empty in winter. the guy at the desk gives me the paperwork and says it's out in the back of the hotel, about 7 rows back or so. i go out there and check out the car and notice a long ding (about 18-24") in the passenger door- looked like maybe a shopping cart hit it. i go back and in ask why they didn't do a walk around with me and mention the damage and he said: we don't do that here. there's only one employee and the cars are parked far away. he looked it up and the damage had been reported but it would've been nice had me mentioned that to me, upfront. i wanted to make sure i didn't get blamed for it. and to top it off, when i went to drop it off at 8am a few days later, there was no one around, so i had to leave it with the front desk. the guy finally showed up 10 minutes late and i told him the front desk had the key and he said fine. i had a ride waiting for me, so i left. pretty miserable experience. EDIT: several days later, the final charge that came thru was $5.25 over the "estimated" reservation total. not sure why and wasn't able to ask since this clown was 10 minutes late opening the office and i had to leave because my ride was waiting. read more

I wish I could give this place ZERO stars but Yelp does not allow that. I had to make a 2 day trip to a town 3 hours away for work and booked a car through this Avis location as the were the only ones open at 7am. Other places opened at 7:30am. I booked through my company's Concur site and got a confirmation the previous day. When I get there, the man claims that he called me and could not get to me, and that there were no cars available. How could that be, I got a confirmation from them. He just shrugged and asked me to try again at 8am. That would be too late. He wasn't helpful to see if there were any cars in other locations so I was on my own. I had to go back home, cancel this reservation and rent a car with Enterprise. They even upgraded me and the cost was $15 cheaper. Great customer service. Lesson Learned: Avoid Avis, go with Enterprise. read more

These guys were great. I rented a car in another state to drop off here, and they handled my return efficiently. I was supposed to bring it back at noon, however, they only had someone available for the courtesy drop-off until 11am, so I just hustled a bit and came then. The guy at the desk wasn't the friendliest person in the world (don't test your small-talk skills on him), but I'm just happy to have gotten everything taken care of quickly and painlessly. *NOTE: If returning, park your car in one of the marked spots, follow the directions on the sign, and then walk into the hotel. Overcharged 1 day. Messed up billing. Told me they registered my charges with my United mileage plus member reaward, but it didn't happen. A friend and I rented a car for two weeks for a nationwide road trip. This Avis was nearly half the price of the airport. They had precious few vehicle options when we arrived, and we chose a Chevy Malibu (nicknamed Stacy) that we grew to love over the course of our trip. The desk in the hotel is staffed only by one person at a time, and both ladies we encountered were very friendly. 2 weeks of rental for two drivers was about $600, and we had unlimited mileage and were able to take it to all states. We're very happy with our experience here. read more

We booked an suv 10 days in advance. When we got there they didn't have the type vehicle we reserved. They tried to give us lesser car with no offer of discount. The car smelled like an ashtray. When we talked to the clerk he offered no apology said we could have upgraded car but would have to pay extra. I showed my receipt that we had paid extra. We just recieved a blank stare. I rented from this location for a 12 days rental. When my husband picked up the car, the one we reserved was not available. So he was offered a similar car for the same price or a step up for $3 more a day. He didn't know which car to get, so the lady behind the counter said, "Get the upgrade, it comes with Sirius radio". Based on this information, my husband rented the upgrade, and one day into our trip the Sirius radio did not work anymore. My husband called the location and asked what had happened, they proceeded to tell him that the Sirius wasn't actually guaranteed, and that Sirius could turn it off whenever they wanted because Avis does not pay for Sirius. When my husband went to return the car, he asked if he could receive a discount for the extra $3 he had paid a day for the upgrade based on the information provided when he picked up the car. There was another person behind the counter that stated, "no, the other lady must not have known". In addition, my husband rented the car on his Amex. When he went to pay the final amount, he wanted to pay in cash. (We don't like to use credit if we don't need to.) Keep in mind, I had previously called the location to ask if cash was an acceptable form of payment, and they had said of course. They looked at him strangely and said, "I don't think so, I don't know how to take a cash payment." My husband basically lost it then, and told them, he really didn't care if they knew how to use their register/computer, he was paying in cash and that was it. The woman behind the counter finally agreed to take the cash. I have to say, the car was nice and performed well. However it was not vacuumed out before we rented and there was a ton of small garbage in it. We also found empty candy wrappers, bottles and sunglasses in the car. Honestly, with so many choices in the Schaumburg area to rent cars... this will be my last time using this location. read more

I will never use Avis for my car rentals. They charged double for an economy car when Enterprise was charging half of that. I spoke with a supervisor to extend my rental and they have an extension fee on top of it. I asked them how much it would be to return and rent out the car the price varied dramatically between different Avis branches. I asked the supervisor so I could've called another Avis and gotten a cheaper price she said yes. I do not trust a company whose prices vary from branch to branch and from their nearby competitors. They also told me that they do not match prices after the fact and couldn't do anything for me. Lesson learned never use Avis for rentals. Enterprise supplied us with a cheaper car and also same day pickup. I didn't have to schedule pickup a day before. Ill be sure to let everyone know that there are car rental companies better thank Avis. read more

I booked a car online. After showing up and handing over my card and license they informed me that they ran a credit check. I never authorized that. They wernt able to tell me how they ran it using only my name only that they used another company to process it. So they sent my info to another company without my authorization or knowledge. I called the customer service line and they wernt able to tell me how they ran it either only that they already sent my information to an unknown company they wouldn't even tell me the name to. They are very dishonest!!! They use a bait and switch technique which is immoral and illegal in Illinois. The manager is very rude. I tried to rent a car out, a specific one, I was told three times they I will get it and I was quoted a rental cost. My kids really wanted to ride in this car. I even stopped by to make sure I will get this specific vehicle. When I came-in to pick it up, I was told the specific car will cost me much more. My kids where very disappointed. Do not rent from this place!!! They do not deserve to stay in business!!! The management at Avis headquarters said they "could not" do anything about this.
