A couple of weeks after I returned my Avis rental car, I received a "Cleaning fee" invoice of $450. I actually thought it was a scam. After a month of no response to my emails requesting photo proof, I contacted our corporate AVIs contact - they did quickly respond. Bottom Line: It is unfortunate that Avis is arbitrarily imposing a smoking fee on my car rental when that could not possibly be the case (I am a life-long non-smoker). Without further investigation or acknowledgment of the facts I have submitted, I am left with no choice but to instruct my credit card company to dispute these erroneous charges. The attached pictures are the "dirt" - a small white pebble that could have been on our foot/boots; possibly salt from Chicago snow. Looking Question to AVIS: Why was this rental not inspected until January 1, 2025, when I returned it on December 29, 2024? Worst rental car location in America. Made a reservation 3 weeks in advance. I got to pickup the van at appointed time. No van or any vehicle that can accommodate 6 passengers. Even worse I'm third in line to get a van if one eventually becomes available. Did I get a phone call in advance advising me that a vehicle was available? I'll start by saying Channel is the best and helped us out in our time of need! Our car broke down this morning on our way to Gainsberg, Fl and of course being Sunday there are no mechanics to take a look at our Jeep and no car rental places in the area open. So we had to head to the airport where most of the rental car places were completely booked out and the ones that were left were like 200$ a day. But what choice did we have but to try. We talked to all the rental places and it was the same but then we met the angel Channel that saved us and got us into a rental at a affordable price. She was beyond nice and we're back on the road while we wait for Jeep to be seen. read more

The LEAD customer service representative(Lois) at the Tallahassee Florida International Airport has a fucking nasty attitude and should not work in customer service. I understand that Memorial Day is a busy weekend and they're certain things that are out of an employee control....however, there's a proper and PROFESSIONAL way to communicate that message. She does not have any tact and obviously need additional training. Based on my experience today I WOULD NOT hire her to work for my company. Additionally, what's the point of making a reservation if the inventory doesn't support the demand. This is extremely inconvenient and caused me to miss a graduation. My 22 yo daughter rented a pickup truck on line to move her apt furniture from our home town back to Tallahassee. She checked that she was over 18, but under 25. She booked, and got a confirmation, for a pickup truck. The weekend of her trip she wasn't informed until she got to the counter that they don't rent trucks to anyone under 25. (wtf?) Had she known, she would have gotten on the road a lot earlier. They also would not let ME make the reservation and her drive the car. Now I have to drive with her from Port Charlotte to Tallahassee AND BACK by myself (they don't rent pickups one way) in a weekend. They DID allow me (in Port Charlotte) to add her on as a driver, but the reservation couldn't be in her name. I would also like to add that, not only was she sorely disappointed getting the last minute news in Tallahassee, but the agent at the Tallahassee site could not have been more rude and dismissive. read more

I needed to rent a truck for moving to a new apartment within town. I booked through Budget and the first location I went to (which was scheduled through online) did not have any trucks for me. Instantly I was upset and annoyed because I needed the truck right away. That location made a few phone calls and transferred me to this location of Avis Rent A Car. Unfortunately I had to drive across town to pickup my truck, but they waited for me and set me off. I had a coupon to use and my 12' truck rental was a base price of $15. I only used the truck for about 4 or 5 hours and went back to Avis to return it since the website said this location had overnight drop off, but hello hello the gate was locked. So I was forced to drive back across town and hold the truck overnight. I then of course had to wake up early and drive back to drop off the truck and get my own car back before heading to work. Waste of my time, but I let it slide. They charge a certain amount per mileage used and my grand total for the one day rental came to roughly $30. Honestly not a bad deal and they were my last minute help. Workers were alright and not too grumpy. It was a quick transaction and simple process. read more

They took forever to give us a car and kept adding additional charges, even though we had reserved online for a specific price. Very rude and unwilling to work with us. I am SO not happy. I rented my car for one day, a one-way rental from Daytona Beach to Tallahassee. When I picked up the car, it was dirty--had not been vacuumed, wiped down, and the inside windows had a dirty film on them. The type of dirty film that affects your ability to see when the sun hits it, yeah? I didn't say anything because I only needed to use the car to get where I was going, no big deal. Returning the car was not a fun experience... There are 2 avis locations in Tallahassee. Only ONE of the locations accept returns. Guess which location I tried to return it to? So I found out I had to take it to the airport location. I made three attempts to call Avis to let them know I might be a few minutes late because I went to the wrong location. Each time I called, I went through the automated prompts to be connected to the local Avis. Each time the automated system connected me to the local Avis, I LITERALLY heard the person when they answered the phone and then *click* when they HUNG UP ON ME! At the airport location, there is a parking lot with rental cars and the AVIS sign on it. This is not where you return vehicles to. You have to go up to the airport terminal--as if you were dropping off someone who is taking a plane--and find the correct turn off in the parking lot because the parking lot is one big parking lot that has been sectioned off via chains, yellow rope, and tire spikes... After going in and out of the airport terminal and parking lot, I FINALLY found the right one lane turn in for Avis (which is difficult to see, for real!). By the time I got out of my vehicle, the Avis employee checked out the car and sent me an email receipt. Now HERE is the part that I am LIVID about--due to all of my turn arounds in a city I don't know, I was late by 27 minutes for turning the car in. I'd picked it up at 1210pm in Daytona. Avis charged me $93 for being one hour late in returning my car. I am just shaking my head in anger and disgust. How dare you, Avis. Seriously. Enjoy that extra $93 dollars you took from me because it will definitely be the LAST money you ever get from me. And when an opportunity to share my experience comes in the future? I'm going to let people know what a dirty dealing business you are. read more

On Friday May 31st, I reserved a car and was charged a reservation fee of $161. Upon arriving at the rental offices, they informed me that they did not have a car reserved for me because they did not have an available rental. Five days later, while checking my banking records, I discovered that they charged my credit card for the reservation anyway, even though they never actually reserved a car for me in the first place. read more

Just Terrible. The only reason I even gave them one star is because I couldn't give zero. I'm Avis preferred. Car wasn't ready when I arrived. It turned out to have a problem and I took it back after driving around the block. The replacement car was filthy inside. Had to wait for complaining customers when I returned it. Anyone looking for a truck rental in the Tallahassee area: DO NOT use the Budget rental trucks located on s Monroe near FAMU!! They are FILLED with hidden fees, gave me the worst customer service and ended up paying $75 for a small truck to move a few items 5 miles down the road. It was advertised as $19.99. I read through the ENTIRE contract before signing and NONE of these additional fees were listed. I'm a pretty easy going person so you know it's bad that I took the time to post this. NEVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! This is THE WORST car rental company I have ever seen! Recently, my daughter had to drive to Atlanta to help her grandmother with her uncle's belongings after his recent passing. Obviously, this was not a leisure trip and she uncomfortable to begin with but after dealing with Avis for a week, it went to just about unbearable. Upon arrival at Avis on S Monroe my daughter was told that there were no cars even though she had a reservation. Then, the REALLY NICE salesman "found" one car just as she was leaving. So great of him... When trying to pay for the rental, my daughter was declined even though there was over a $1000 on her card. When we looked at her account, Avis charged her THREE damn times for almost $400 each and was trying to charge her again! They started a refund which was, of course, going to take "3 to 5 business days". It was Friday, this means the refund for $600 plus didn't show up until WEDNESDAY the next week. WHICH MEANS, my daughter and granddaughter were on the road, with no money. In the meantime, they still needed money to cover the deposit...what the HELL avis!!! She should have said just give me ALL my money back and left but no, she's responsible and needed to get to Atlanta so, against my better judgment, I put money in her account so that she could get the car. This all would have been bad enough and plenty for me to have never dealt with them again but no, THERE'S MORE...This car was very obviously not even looked at considering it had sand everywhere and smelled like somebody had transported an easy couple pounds of fresh caught fish... congrats to the lucky previous renters BTW. Because of the time constraints and her true desire to get there and help, my daughter had to leave and enjoy the aroma for 5 hours with a 3-year-old asking "ewwww mommy, what stinks?" the whole way. I truly can't believe that one of the top rental company's allows a young mother and her daughter to get in a car that hadn't even been checked, except the gas apparently. Which tells me SOMEBODY saw the state of the car and still was fine passing it off on a customer. The "check engine" (or whatever) flashed on and off the whole trip. I honestly was so pissed about the money and the state of the car, I didn't even think about the mechanical part until she was on the highway otherwise I wouldn't have given her the money. Luckily, they made it there and she was told she could exchange the car in Atlanta as she still had to help her grandmother pack the truck and drive to her home in Virginia. This next car was okay and she arrived back in Atlanta and tried to turn the car in but found out that she couldn't because she didn't have enough on her card for whatever the hell they were charging for this time...again, even though around $600 had been refunded 2 days prior. Come to find out, Avis charged her card AGAIN for $397 (I think that's the exact number)! One of the charges was a fee for turning the car into a different city...okay, I think it's petty since its a rental company with locations everywhere. but fine. HOWEVER, even though Avis, as a company, charges $25 to return to another city than originally planned (she was going to bring it home), this branch in Tallahassee charges $150! We were told this by multiple sales people during the many calls..."you have to talk to Tallahassee". Sure, they are SO damn helpful! In all, Avis took over $700 for trip that was supposed to be $263 for the car and a "refundable" $260 deposit. Where the hell is the deposit Avis? This was both mine and my daughter's first experience with this company and I can't imagine a situation where I would ever use them again. I wish I could say that it's just Tallahassee but my parents were just over charged by Avis as well so I gotta wonder if they do it to everybody and just hope more don't notice than those that do. You're a real crappy company Avis, I really wish I could speak my mind freely read more

This location is running a scam and I urge everyone not to patronize this business. Recently they have started increasing the deposits (1-3 days 150$ and 4+ days 300$). I am a Leon County employee that benefits from a discount and still was charged almost about 1000$ for a rental for 5 days (without insurance or milage). The notice was printed on printer paper and taped to the front door and counters which seemed very unprofessional. Also they could not explain why the deposits for vehicles had changed. This location is independently owned by KMMH.Inc and the Agency Owner is Chad Newcomb and I believe they need to be reported to the Better Business Bureau. In all honesty it seems to be discrimination against the African American customers that frequent there. And if they are truly worried about fraud they need to have a serious conversation to change policy not price. I will not be using this location anymore. read more

People working there can't even speak English properly, forget about picking up your reserved car. Cars are terrible too.
