No ridiculous charring of the exterior, either. $76. Mashed potato sides were excellent as well. We split the beet salad and liked that very much. Wine list has a nice mix of Old World and New World wines. It tilts into the low 3 figures pretty quickly but there was a Chateau Poitevin 2016 which was 2 figures and superb. Desserts are huge - chocolate cake and carrot cake are both downtown steakhouse sized. There is a nice bar in the front room with high tops, and then a large dining room in back - almost cavernous. Restrooms are not updated, a relic of its sports bar past. It would be nice if they stayed open long enough to rehab them and make them properly accessible. No steps to get in to the restaurant though. We were here on a Wednesday night, had the place to ourselves. Apparently that's because they switched from OpenTable to Yelp reservations. If you want a good steak without the hassle of travelling to River North or the Loop, give them a try. However its an open question how long they last, because while its a casual neighborhood spot, it isn't a cheap one.

We ordered the beet salad to start and I got the seafood risotto while my husband got a steak and the brussel sprout side. They were out of the beet salad, so we pivoted to Caesar. The salad was fine, but I wish they had cut up the romaine into bite size pieces, so we didn't have to. They had 3 different options during bread service. The sourdough was fantastic. The seafood on my risotto was cooked perfectly, but the seafood was over salted. It seemed a bit spendy at $58. My husband found his steak cooked to medium rare, but dry and salty. We suspect it was over salted before cooking. Overall, this fell flat with us. If you're going to charge River North prices, the food needs to be executed better.

The dish was supposed to to be accompanied by polenta with trumpet mushrooms, but two paltry slices of mushroom with a small smear of polenta completed the dish which "artfully" only occupied the left half of the plate, leaving the rest of the plate bare. Small portions aside, the dish was overly salty, to the point I had dry mouth the rest of the night, and the chicken was overcooked. The taste was fine, and the little bit of polenta added enough moisture to make the dish work. The worst thing was the incredibly dull dinner knife that couldn't cut through the mushroom, let alone the chicken, causing me to apply the stab and pull/tear method to get bite sized pieces. Everything thing else was superb. I would go back for the cocktails and appetizers, perhaps grazing the appetizers and a salad as a dinner. Regarding the food, I liked everything, especially the sandwiches. The sandwich portion was so big that I only ate half of it because they give you a lot for the money.
