I came here with a big group. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. To start off, we got a sampler appetizer. My all time favorite was the pastrami flatbreads. The best I can describe it is like minced meat on pita bread drizzled with some sauce. SO GOOD. Some honorable mentions were the empanadas, grilled sweet corn ribs, and beef skewers. I wasn't a big fan of the fries or onion rings. Both were kind of soggy. My main was the boneless ribeye with a side of mash potatoes and carrots. The presentation was stunning, but this was disappointing for a few reasons. 1) my meat was room temperature at best 2) carrots were super hard like almost a raw carrot and 3) the mashed potatoes were underwhelming in flavor. They did not have most of the items on the menu. I could list them. No beef wrapped dates. No lamb. No veal. A couple of the steaks they did not have. I ordered one of their specials. I took one bite and told the server that it was not good. He said he would take it off the bill, but when the bill came, it was still on. I actually order a burger and gave it to the next table. Paid and left to another restaurant. This was one of my go to restaurants in Chicago. I am not sure what is going on. Health Department should close this place. Talk about a gross place to eat, this is one of the worst in kosher chicago. I'm used to the devon junkholes, but this takes the cake. bugs, filth, etc. No sanitation and the staff shrugged when i brought it to their attention and just said I should go eat somewhere else then. The moment we walked in we see the manager yelling at the staff. We should've known to turn around and go somewhere else. They bring out over priced meat that they probably bought at Peoria Packing. They bring out the food and it is mediocre at best. A lot of the things on the menu were not available. The meat was tough and had a sweetness that was very strange about it. But that's not even the worst part, we were charged twice for our dinner on two different credit cards. We tried disputing it and they forged my signature on the credit card receipt with a name that doesn't correspond to us at the bottom. Steer clear from this place! If I can recommend one place for the best meat in the greater Chicago area, it's definitely this one. The service is beyond anything I have experienced. The owner and his whole staff were super attentive and always checking up. Combine that with one of the best pieces of steak I've had and it was truly a great experience. This was one the the worst steak houses I have ever been to. If you want to get ripped off this is the place. You walk into Evita you immediately notice the smell. A heavy odor of musk and industrial cleaner. The menu they have on OpenTable and other public sites are years out of date. Expect to pay about 40% more than the online prices. The online menu for short rib was $41 but at the store it was over $60. We should have left when we saw the prices but we had ordered a couple of cocktails and we decided to eat there. We had fish and a sandwich and with 3 cocktails our bill was close to $150. My martini cost a $1 more because it was a dirty martini. The drinks were small and not worth the price. Upon receiving the check we find there is a mandatory 20% tip added to the bill. All that for just bland food. Nothing special. Do not eat there. This place was a total rip off. We eat out a couple of times a week and this tops our list for the worst. read more

Went to Evita Steakhouse last week and was shocked to see the exorbitant prices. On top of that, they add a non-negotiable 20% to the bill. Service was awful and management attitude was haughty, but no incentive for good customer service with mandatory tip. When they served the other four people in my party, they told me they were out of what I ordered and I had to select something else. Don't know why they could not have told me that earlier. By the time I got my food, the rest of my party was done. Two of the entrées were served with wrong sides. When the bill came, they charged me $89 (for an entrée) instead of $24 for an appetizer we ordered. They corrected it, but if I had not looked carefully, I would have way over-paid. Wonder if they do that to everyone and how many they get away with. When I asked about the 20%, they said it is for the staff. The thing is, gratuity is to show gratitude for good service, not as a penalty for poor management or to satisfy greed. read more

was here this past weekend with my family from Israel and North of Touhy. Some of the people that go here are strict observant jews and dont get out to many other restaurants. I will say that having the wing appetizers it looks like they baste the wings with a brush of some good looking and better tasting bbq sauce. As a wing afficianado I totally appreciate it. The salads are stupendous and amazing. If you have to entertain your kosher neighbors or friends this would be a good place to take them. I wanted to order the steak but I already had some lamb chops a few hours before and that felt like pushing it. So instead I had the Salmon with dijon sauce. It was delish to the core. The steaks are from $36 to $62 which vary in size. My sister in law had a steak that was good and she ordered it medium well and she felt it was not cooked enough so the chef brought for her personally a different steak like hibachi style which i thought was pretty cool of them. And then the meal did not end there. The chef and waiter let us sample the dessert menu because they were sorry that the meat did not come out well. Now the ice cream has no actual milk in it but the chocholate cake has chocolate sauce oozing out of it. I would come here again and not just when someone else pays :) read more

Made dinner reservations for 7pm via Opentable. Arrived at 7m only to be greeted by host that the restaurant does not open until 7:30p. Pointed out opentable accepted the reservation and suggested to make an update. Waited half hour for kitchen to open up. Loved the quaint warm ambiance. First seated followed with total of 5 tables. Awful I went in for my friends birthday, the meat is extremely salty and super greasy... We were told there was a new chef, but apparently this new chef is even worse than the last. They even have some BS thing on the menu that they want to keep their stuff happy, etc. and they automatically add add 20% which is ridiculous because that gives full freedom for the stuff to act like complete jerks and totally ignore you. First of all, they were six of us, and the server came over with one bottle of water as if that's even going to fill up half of the glasses? He also brought one bread basket and the chimichurri sauce was terrible. It used to be so much better I don't know what they did but it sucks. The server never came back to check on us or ask if we want to order anything else etc. and everybody was done eating. I had asked him to send out a surprise dessert... Instead of actually doing his job like clearing the plates out, etc. He came at a really random time when the birthday girl wasn't even paying attention she was talking to somebody else that she ran into, her baby was screaming to the guest from the bathroom... It's absolutely ridiculous like we spent $400 over six people for some appetizers, sandwiches and salads. Yes, I fully understand. The prices are high, especially kosher restaurants, but that is absolutely bizarre and the food doesn't even taste good kosher or not. I am posting this about a year later because I didn't want this to drastically affect the business too much, but it needs to be done. My first time here with a friend of mine, it was amazing. I was raving to everyone about it for those that have never really experienced kosher cuts of meat let alone an Argentinian steak house. Once Covid happen, menu items seemed to change as they had less options for empanadas and dry aged cuts. My friend was so happy with his experience on our first visit here, he wanted to have his birthday at Evita during covid (back when there were limitations on how many people could be in a restaurant or sit near each other, etc). Now, my friend is not Jewish, nor were the entire group besides myself that came for his birthday. My friend shows up 15 minutes late to the reservation and when he finally gets there, the owner mentions they can no longer seat us due to giving the table away and having to follow guidelines with Covid because people from the city are walking around and checking up on restaurants. Ok I get that, not going to argue my friend was late, if anything deserves to lose his reservation. What got to me was him mentioning about the city coming to check on occupancy and how many people can be seated, and social distancing, and yet no-one was wearing a mask inside. Everyone that entered didn't wear a mask, it was the owner at the front, he was friendly didn't make them wear a mask by any means..people who got up from their table didn't wear a mask(of course these are customers, not Evita's fault), literally no-one was wearing a mask when it was mandatory when this guy wanted to talk about the city keeping an eye on restaurants, and yet was not enforcing wearing a mask at all..After some banter the owner seated us and said next time just show up on time. Long story short, I'm not saying this happened at Evita... but the timing is strange..for members of the party first time going out since lockdown and not going anywhere else, happen to catch Covid after eating here is a bit of a coincidence. I felt my friend was a bit mistreated at first because no-one in the group was jewish..but being such a nice genuine guy we were able to be seated, but that really rubbed me the wrong way. I've grown up in a Jewish household and eaten kosher meals plenty of times, and was happy to see my non-Jewish friends venture out to try something different in their perspective, and that was an experience I hope no-one has to go through. Food wise, it was not how it was before Covid like I mentioned earlier. They only had one type of empanada, which was chicken came out cold. They used to have these really good beef empanadas. When you first walked in, I had no idea that it was even a kosher restaurant which was pretty cool. The ambience is beautiful, and the food was absolutely amazing! Went to my birthday dinner tonight with my husband and couldn't be more terrible, which sucks because I was really looking forward. -waiter confirmed steak should be medium rare, it came well done. Waiter came back with a new steak, still wasn't medium rare, $80 out the window -bread was stale -manager comped half our bill..after every staff member helping us blatantly lied that our steak was being wrapped up and "didn't want to interrupt the table because there was dessert on it", finally confessed at the end and still only comped half. -tip was included on the bill, not even suggested. -the waiter didn't have change(we paid in cash) so he decided to round down and not give us our proper change. Very impressed. It is a small, cozy place. The staff know what they are doing; it was a very enjoyable hour of dining. I had butternut squash soup, Patagonian steak, and the chilled desert. Everything was well-presented and tasty. The personable owner is on-site. He shows a sincere interest in his customers. Right now it is BYOB, but they hope to get their liquor license soon. DISAPPOINTING! We visited for dinner on a Tuesday. There were only 2 servers and most of the restaurant was sat. It took 15 minutes for us to even order wine/ drinks. It is BYOB but it has to be kosher wine, which I understood. The manager gave us a discount on a bottle of cab and that is what the star is for. Our server took our menus without even taking our order. Then it took another 10 minutes for us to even get his attention to tell him that he did not take our order at all. He definitely had time since he was standing in front of the service well waiting for food and doing other side work. After all of this frustration, I didn't even care how the food tasted. I just wanted to get the check and go. Consider additional staff. This place has close to Morton's pricing for their steaks but the service was like a diner. read more

Ok let me get you some perspective here, ill be straight forward and blunt: The restaurant has super friendly staff and owner, and that is probably the one of the two positive things about this place. The second positive thing is the delicious kosher bacon. Aside from that, it all goes downhill. The place smells like mold, the prices are crazy overrated, and the food is underwhelming. I ordered a burger, a steak, a slider, and another smaller steak. The bill came out close to 170 usd, it would be fine if the food was done in an excellent way, or if the experience was so memorable. My wife and I went here for my birthday dinner. I will say that the highs were extremely high and the lows were careless mistakes. First the highs. The food was off the charts. The steak was one of the most flavorful I have tasted. The sauce was a perfect compliment to the steak itself even though the steak would have been great without it. The steak tacos were extremely flavorful and perfectly balanced. The risotto was well cooked and was a perfect flavor combination with the asparagus and duck. As far as flavor, 6 stars. Unfortunately, I ordered the steak medium-rare and it came out inconsistently cooked with parts cooked med-rare and other parts med-well. Steak temperatures should be steakhouse 101 and always hit perfectly. The service was highly mediocre. We arrived and were seated efficiently. But then after being offered drinks we sat for 20 minutes before a waiter came to take our order. At a $100 a plate steak house, I would expect more. Similarly, we were brought a few small cubes of bread and that was it. I would expect either more bread to be brought or a little bit more brought up front. Bread is cheap but buys lots of good will. Lastly was the fact that there were items on the menu we were told not to order. We saw the watermelon gazpacho shooters and got excited. When we tried to order them, our waiter said no because it was bad. If it is that bad, get it off the menu ASAP. Lastly I did not appreciate the 20% required tip. I almost always do tip 20% and I understand that restaurants are being pinched but I don't like it being forced. Went for Mother's Day, party of 4. Ordered, appetizer and fries for person 1, two burgers and fries for two others, and the last person ordered a steak. The food is decent, but Ricardo our waiter didn't write anything down, so multiple parts of our orders were wrong. Half the time the person serving us was someone else, and here's the kicker: the receipts that they charge a 20% GRATUITY for parties of 1 OR MORE. So we paid ~$50 tip for not so great service, and didn't have any say in the matter. Food was cool, I enjoyed my burger, the ambience is nice, menu has some nice options. But there's no shortage of good restaurants in Chicago, and being forced to tip that much (we tip well on our own) for bad service made the experience unpleasant. Would not dine again. read more

This is one of the best steak houses around, open til 12 midnight! Good tasting steaks. Ribeyes that 'melt in your mouth' said and old waiter there, and he was right. Along with the service, which was delightful to the ear, as the staff chatter in a Spanish, unusual for me in Chicago, the Argentinian dialect. The staff was knowledgeable about the food and very interested in my experience and taste in food. I recommend this joint, with it's musky dark room, a feeling that you are at the front house of a stable from an Argentinian meat processing plant of the type of the old estancias de los old dictadores. I was impressed by the place and the mood of loud talking and laughing as the staff works hard to deliver the best service possible. After having an enjoyable meal here, we've returned and the food has been consistently excellent. Last night we decided Evita would be a perfect location to celebrate my birthday. Upon entry, we were seated immediately, and the waiter brought us warm bread, with a nice crust, olive oil and chimichurri. My companion had the sinfully delectable Empanadas Salteñas, which also pair nicely with the house-made chimichurri. I enjoyed the Bife Bordelaise, which was cooked perfectly [medium] and had a subtle hint of herbs in a rich wine sauce. It was paired with grilled peppers and mashed potatoes. I hate wilted vegetables, and the grilled peppers had a perfect al dente texture. We also enjoyed participating in one of the Evita & Kol Tuv wine pairings, sampling 10 delicious wines from The River Wine. I particularly enjoyed the Twin Sons Chardonnay and the 2014 Majestique Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a nice bonus to have the wine producer present and to hear more about the people who produce the wines and their roots! Went to Evita with my girlfriend. It was not a busy night in the restaurant. That may be the problem. About the atmosphere, we couldn't spend more than 5 minutes talking without being asked if everything was okay by 3 different servers. For starter, we ordered the steak taco. Came cold. I thought it was on purpose. We finished it. Wasn't incredible, was good. Nothing memorable but not bad either. Then, the server brought the same dish to us. We told him that we had it already. Then, the guy told us in spanish that it was supposed to be for us. Actually, another table ordered it but they sent it back because it was cold, so they brought it to our table.... I felt really stupid when the waiter told us that... Then, had the burger and my girlfriend had a steak. Next time, I'll go to Romanian, buy a steak and make it myself.... there was nothing special. Just nothing. I was creeping that place on social medias for weeks before going. I was so excited to find a kosher Argentinian Steakhouse here! In Skokie! I was just incredibly disappointed. What a shame. The meat looks so much better on Instagram! The waiter, Camilo, was really condescending and not helping. Evita's food is creative, abundant and delicious. The decor is hip and comfortable, and the service is almost always superb. Wait staff are well-informed and generally very happy to accommodate even the most finicky of customers (that would be me). The owner often is present and will bend over backward to ensure that your experience is perfect. I've seen him being astonishingly patient with the most unreasonable of customers. He also gets to know his clientele and is always happy to help you figure out whether or not a given menu item or special is likely to please your palate. In addition to the restaurant service, I've been to three private functions there. Never have I had steak at an event that was sooo good. Some of the few complaining reviewers describe visits so outside my experience at Evita's that I genuinely wondered if they were describing another restaurant. Because Evita is a kosher restaurant, it's true that their prices are higher than non-kosher steakhouses. Unfortunately, that's inevitable given the much higher costs of doing business. What's ironic is that Evita actually is significantly less expensive than comparable kosher restaurants. read more
