It's been a while, but I love Axel's Wedge and this time I tried the Axel's burger and fries. Comfort food, assemble! Cook options are offered, so I ordered my big, juicy burger mid-rare but when it arrived it was medium-medium well. I was disappointed but it tasted good. We have been long time customers of the old Axels and knew it wasn't long before a change would occur. The remodel is really nice. Very clean, bright and updated. My husband had the NY Strip and I had the Lobster Roll. The service was great, quick. We felt very attended to. Our drinks were a little smaller than the old Axels, but good. The NY Strip was good but not what it used to be at Axels. The Lobster Roll was stuffed! Very filled with tender lobster, light mayo and a little celery. The Brioche roll was a little thick as the usual is more "hot dog bun" style for a Lobster Roll. All in all it was good. Will go back and try more things for sure. read more

In full honesty, the place is pretty mediocre. My father and I came here for lunch and while the ambiance is nice, the food felt subpar. Almost disappointing... It's nice to have another restaurant in Chanhassen. I have visited the restaurant three times now since Moe's Char House took over Axel's. The food has been great! Dusted Chicken wings were good and look forward to trying their other flavors. Chicken club sandwich is good size and flavorful. I like that the side options include fruit! The Beet Salad and the Cobb salad were both a hit! Our waitress was very good, when she came around. They are understaffed, but that's not her fault! My only wish is that they could dim the lights a bit. It's very bright. read more

I have been here several times in the past month for business meetings. I have ordered the almond/butter encrusted walleye each time. The horseradish potato cake and green bean sides are delicious. I am a one of habit and when I find something I like I tend to stick with it. The walleye never disappoints. The first time I ate here this year the food came out Luke warm, however because we were with a large table I assume it was because of that. The next time it was perfect temperature. The service is always good. Waitress is always friendly and accommodating. We also enjoy the wine and like that it is half price bottles on Wednesdays. I've had a mixed bag here - I've had excellent service with excellent food and I've had a kitchen mishap where one persons food was sent out 45 minutes before the rest of ours and then got an inedible comped dessert since it was frozen solid. Overall, There's a good selection of items, the booths are comfy, and when they have the fireplace going it's *chefs kiss*. We arrive and get seated on a Wednesday night at Axel's in Chanhassen. -20 minutes goes by before our waiter comes to take our drink orders. -Another 20+ minutes go by before he comes back with our drinks and takes our food orders. He got one drink order wrong; she ordered a white wine and he brought her a red. -OVER AN HOUR goes by and we have to ask where our food is. Apparently a reservation of 40 came in right before us, and overwhelmed the kitchen. We weren't made aware of this, and they obviously didn't staff accordingly knowing this huge group was coming in. -We get our food finally. It was nothing to right home about; 2 of 8 orders were incorrect but we didn't mention anything because it would just take another hour to fix. -One friend nicely asked for her bill (we'd been there for 2.5 hours at this point) and our waiter goes and I quote: "it can't be like that. I have high anxiety and if it's going to be that way it just gets worse." And walks away. -20+ minutes later he passes our checks out and 4/8 of them are wrong. We were not given any discount or free appetizer for having to wait over an hour for our food and the service provided was terrible. My boyfriend and I had a mini getaway here over the weekend and found this place online. We made reservations here ONLY because we saw they had king crab legs with a loaded baked potato. Seeing how I absolutely love crab legs we just had to go here. We got there about 10min before our reservation, but they still seated us quickly. Our table was in the middle of the floor. We would have liked a booth as it was just the 2 of us at a 4 seated table, but it wasn't that important. We ordered some drinks. I had the "purple rain" and my boyfriend had a margarita. I noticed that our waiter did not card us for the drinks. The purple rain drink was delicious and my boyfriend liked his margarita. For $11.00 the drinks could have be a little more stronger. The bread they brought out to us was huge and just ok. Even the butter was blah. Could have been salted butter and they could have kept that nasty cinnamon butter. So now we are about to order those delicious king crab legs, only for the waiter to tell us they only do them on Tuesdays due to the cost. Huge disappointment because that's what we were there for. There is not alot on the menu to choose from so we had to settle for steak. I ordered my steak medium with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans with a side of sautéd shrimp. My boyfriend ordered his steak medium well (he wanted less pink) with garlic mashed potatoes and a loaded baked potato. The meal came with soup or salad and we both chose the Cajun chicken soup. The soup was delicious (we both thought so). After the soup was done we got our food. I noticed that my boyfriend steak was medium and not medium well. So I had to switch steaks with him because that was too red for his liking. The steaks were under seasoned. Like I literally tasted no seasoning. Both of our garlic mash was a little too salty and my boyfriend said his loaded potato was dry. The sauted shrimp were huge and good. I don't even eat green beans but they were good. We had the salmon and veggies, very tasty. I had the purple rain drink, it was very sweet but not much alcohol in it. We shared the Baileys. Chocolate cake, it was ok nothing great. Loved the relaxing music playing in the background. I can see why the greatest musical artist of all time loved that place. We will definitely be back when we visit Chanhassen next year. Axels is now "Moe's" but really, it's just "Dumpy Axels" pretty sad. The wait staff is very good, but the food matches the decor and ambience- bad. I hate to be harsh, I wanted this to be good. But it was disappointing. I had the walleye sandwich and honestly have had better at Culver's. It was a fake shaped triangle "walleye" with four inches of beer batter. Ok so my fiance and I had dinner here just a lil while ago. I honestly was surprised at the excellent service we received and how quickly our waitress served up over the hour of dining. 5/5 for hospitality keep up the great work. We had the Chicken cajun soup which was damn tasty. We had the fish fry which they had too much grease on them and let's just say all the food on that plate may come back later. However the quality of the seafood was beyond my expectations and actually was very presentable and didnt taste that bad. I like this restaurant and the options it has. I visited here a few times before but not since things shut down again. The grill marks on their steaks are just beautiful. But I didn't have steak this visit I had the Fish Fry. I liked it and you get a lot of food for $21 bucks. I like how crunchy the batter is. Sometimes some of them are just kinda soggy and slide off the fish like it doesn't wanna be there. I liked the sriracha aioli sauce with this. The Creamy Cajun Chicken soup is delicious and not spicy at all. About dessert My god...Holy cake slice Batman! That Bailey's cake is just the right amount of rich. It was ok. Not worth the money. We got there and got seated quickly. We ordered wine and no appetizers. We split the wedge salad which was good. My son ordered soup and it never came. We asked about popovers and were told several times that they were in the oven. When they came out they were cold. Not just out of oven. Dinner came and we both had steak. Underdone, tough and cold. Very dry. We both got bleu cheese on steak and it was barely there. Mashed potatoes were cold. My son like the salmon but potatoe cake was so so. Had not been here in years and decided to get a last minute reservation in the bar area for dinner on Saturday night - patting myself on the back for that decision! The dark wood interior paired with Christmas decorations and a roaring fire made for the coziest ambiance. I started out with a cosmopolitan while deciding on my dinner order. Ended up ordering the supper club filet, which comes with soup or salad plus two sides - I went with a house salad, horseradish potato cake & green beans. My salad came out a few minutes later, followed by complimentary popovers with both regular & cinnamon butter - YUM. The waitress stopped by a couple times to make sure we had everything we needed, so we were able to order a glass of wine which arrived just before our main course. My steak was cooked perfectly, the green beans were so flavorful, and the horseradish potato cake was tasty. I ended up taking half of my meal in a to-go container because it was so filling. It was a wonderful way to spend the evening, and I definitely won't make the mistake again of waiting years to make another visit to Axel's! read more

Please, please, please recognize there is a world of craft beer around you! The food is always good here - mostly classic dishes you would eat with your grandparents - homey and high quality. But it would be nice to see the "grandpa" beer move into cans and bottles freeing up space for craft beer so this place can stay relevant! Hopefully they can get some help with this, it would be sad to see them fade out. Sadly, I am editing this post. The food was awful. Cold and tasteless. I asked her warm it up, hoping the temp would give it some flavor. No luck. Salt and pepper, no luck. Came here for brunch on Sunday and was nervous due to some of the low reviews. I'm so glad we decided to give it a chance. Absolutely fantastic breakfast/brunch. Was in Chanhassen killing about an hour and a half before the first day of the Paisley Park tours and needed a place for dinner. Didn't know much about the other places in the area and decided to hit up Axel's since it was a name that we knew (even though it had been years since I've been in one). The location in Chanhassen is larger than I thought it would be. There is a larger more formal, white table cloth area to the right as you enter the main doors with the bar in front of you and attached seating area with high top tables and small booths along the wall to your left. Its actually a pretty nice looking space. It was still Happy Hour when we arrived so we took advantage of that and sat in the bar area. There were drink specials on beer, wine and well drinks ($2 off cocktails, wine, and beer) and good deals on starters. Ordered the Walleye Fingers, Bull Bites, and the Bistro Burger. My favorite of the three was the walleye. Scalding hot out of the fryer and The Bull Bites were pretty decent, a little bit of gristle but tenderloin tends to be like that. The accompanying bearnaise and horseradish sauces were good. The Bistro Burger was ok. I think it would have been better if it were warmer, but there was a bit of a lag between the serving of the starters and the burger. Given that the place wasn't particularly busy at that time I'm assuming that it was just forgotten as it sat in the kitchen. What started as a leisurely mini-dinner became an exercise in time management to get out in time. After we requested that the server check on the burger it suddenly appeared. We had enough time to scarf it down and take off so we didn't miss our time for the tour. Had a really nice hoppy IPA there as well. The name of which escapes me right now. Overall, its a decent place. Not spectacular, but acceptable. Reading thru the menu its definitely a little more expensive that some places and with higher prices come greater expectations. read more

My colleagues and I were on business travel and came her via suggestion. While here we great menu options and wonderful service. We split a necessary menu item being the Coco-Bull appetizer, which anyone will love. For dinner I got the Spicy Chicken Penne and had the Cajun Chicken with it. Both these items were great. My colleagues loved the beers they drank and their Bacon-wrapped Jumbo Sea Scallops and Grilled Halibut Milanese. There are multiple Axel locations across the city. I've patronized the Eagan location the most. This was a first-time visit to the Chan location. We sat in the bar area (our choice of seating) at a high-top table. They have booths too and of course seats at the bar. Then there is always the main dining area too. We arrived with 15 minutes to spare on happy hour so we decided to order drinks, two appetizers, and a meal to share. $2 off all drinks and the appetizers were almost half the cost of normal price. We had the bistro burger for our shared meal item. The apps came out right away - bull bites and walleye fingers. The bull bites were tender, but the size of each one varied, some hardly qualified as a bite, more like a nibble. Their were two accompanying sauces that were tasty. The bites were on a bed of fried onion strings. The walleye fingers were ok. I've had better. I would say if I'd paid full price I would have felt cheated but it was a nice shareable amount for two people. Our burger seemed to take forever and I had to ask our server to check on it. Due to a time constraint we'd almost said to cancel the burger. Nevertheless, I felt like I didn't really taste it, inhaled it and couldn't enjoy it. We made reservations for a Saturday evening at 6:00 and the parking lot was packed. We found a spot and wandered in (party of 5) and were surprised to see it relatively slow. White fabric tablecloths, high prices... odd service. I ordered a glass of wine, not carded. My boyfriend ordered an old fashioned, carded. My that-day-just-turned-21 year old sister asked for a couple drink recommendations. Our server said she'd have to ask the bartender... odd. My sister specified she liked rum and tequila and prefers sweet drinks. 5 minutes later she came back with a drink - Lisa didn't get any say in it, just was delivered one. Luckily she liked it. We asked her what drink he'd made and she said "dunno" - just not white tablecloth service so far. We weren't alerted that it was happy hour until she came over and said we have 1 minute left to order a HH priced app - well that would have been a nice place to START. We ordered the crab cakes. We were surprised when a tiny plate with TWO crab cakes came out. They seemed to have just been warmed up as they fell apart just by looking at them. Between 5 of us we each got one bite - she really should have alerted us to the portion size. Entrees ordered were the coconut shrimp, bleu cheese steak medallions, halibut, chicken marsala and the spicy penne pasta. I wasn't eating meat and noted that there was not a single vegetarian dinner option, not even pasta - only salad. I ordered the blackened chicken pasta sans meat and it really was just a cream sauce at that point... not their fault on that particular dish, but more options would have been nice. Oh well, I knew where I was. Mom really enjoyed her halibut, but I thought that the sauce was overwhelmingly sweet. Joe noted that his marsala was drowning in sauce as well. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the coconut shrimp were huge. For such a fancy establishment, I also thought that the plating could use a lot of help. Sauce overload, half of it splashed on the sides of the plate. Portions were all off between seafood and meat. Our service picked up a notch as the meal went on, but she was quite obviously sick as she sniffled and hacked between sentences - ew, take the night off. Absolutely Unprofessional! Gross unprepared and over cooked, bland food. Restrooms are Horrid!!! We had to wait over 90 Minutes for our orders. When they came we were pushed out by the manager as we weren't served our food til 8:48pm and they close at 9pm! My Philly was soggy and falling apart on the bottom, overly toasted on top and the meat was burnt. The asparagus was Burnt and dried out. Fish was under cooked and soggy. Garlic mashed potatoes were bland and Zero garlic added. The Mussels were open and tasted sour. The Chicken Sandwich was so burnt I could not even peel the burnt off to eat what was inside. The potatoes were off the bottom of the pan as they were hard, flat and clumpy and so very dry. This was a birthday party for my son. What a waste of a night and a Lot of money! Over $400 in food and we are the Salads. So disgusted!!!! And no comps for the nasty, unprofessional experience. I almost didn't even tip the waitress but I Knew it was not her fault. My husband and I went to Axel's last night for our Valentine's Day dinner. The atmosphere is classy/up-scale meets rustic/woodsy. I loved the decore, antler chandeliers, nice table settings, and "Valentine's Day ice sculpture". It was fun being able to dress up and not feel like we "over did it". Our server was friendly and attentive, considering it was an abnormally busy evening. The menu is excellent. Most entrees are at least $19 and up, which for people who don't do fine dining very often is a splurge for us. But the quality of the food didn't disappoint. The entrees come with bread, soup or salad, and a side of your choir of potato (loaded, fries, etc). So you definitely get your fill with plenty to take home for later. :) Overall, great dining experience. Will be back. read more

Very hunting lodge-esque with the antler chandeliers and dark walls and curtains. The kind of place where the big boys have their fancy business lunches while they drink scotch and discuss politics. Also, where my husband and I went for lunch when we needed a mid-day break. Yeah, we average folks are welcome here too. Don't let the decor fool you, because the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food. Softball sized popovers start your meal and be sure to try the maple butter - yum yum! I had the lunch special of half a BLT with avocado and a cup of soup - French onion with melty cheese oozing over the top. Our visit was on one of the first snowy days this winter and this meal was just what I needed to warm me up and get me through the rest of the day. So what if I'm not a fancy business lady? If you find yourself in the scary land of leased BMW's, nouveau riche and townhomes that is Southwest Suburbia and your looking for a nice meal, look no further than Axels. Located in Chanhassen across from the dinner theatre, axels provides a classy somewhat upscale environment and great food. Don't worry its not as meat markety as the spin off bonfire grilles. But do beware that they allow smoking in Carver County so don't wear anything that you plan to wear more than once. The prime rib is delicious, get the loaded baked potato and the ceasar it even comes with Anchovies...who knew...in Chanhassen! They have decent beer on tap and their Long Islands go nicely with the beef. lol. $$$ look to spend between 50-60 bucks for two. In the summer their patio area make a nice landing spot for a couple couples and a bottle of chilled chardonnay. read more
