It was my first time coming through here. My friend had suggested coming here and I was craving tacos. First things first, these are not your Mexican street tacos. So don't go in expecting that. However, they still hit the spot! I was a big big fan of the brisket taco. Juicy, flavorful, and filling! All the tacos come with a pretty substantial amount of protein. They have a lunch special where you buy 2 tacos and get your third one free, so my meal came out to be pretty affordable. Our server was great, I think his name was Miles? The restaurant itself was cute, with nice barstools and booths. I will say that when we went, the floor a few pools of liquid with caution signs up. Not sure if there was a leak or some spills, but nonetheless it didn't affect the ambiance too much. I heard they do an ice bar in the winter, so I'm looking forward to returning. read more

We stopped in around 7 PM and had no trouble getting a table. Tequila Butcher is a very small restaurant, definitely smaller inside than I expected, but it wasn't busy during our visit so getting seated was easy. The absolute best part of the meal was the Queso Fundido. It was delicious -- very cheesy with an almost slightly sweet flavor that I really liked. It came with both chips and tortillas, which was a nice touch. My husband ended up using the tortillas to basically make his own little cheese tacos and ate every one of them. I would absolutely order the Queso Fundido again. For my entrée, I had the Birria Tacos. They were okay, but unfortunately I'm still searching for really good Birria Tacos. The meat didn't have much flavor, there wasn't a lot of cheese, and the Consommé was pretty mild as well. Nothing was necessarily bad, but I was hoping for a lot more flavor. My husband ordered the Chimichanga. He said the flavor itself was fine, but he wasn't a fan of the texture. He also forgot to ask for it without cilantro, so that didn't help his experience with it. We finished with the Tres Leches Cake. Tres Leches is Tres Leches -- sweet, soft, and good. It was a nice way to finish the meal, even if the Queso Fundido was still easily my favorite thing we ordered. Overall, this was a mixed visit for us. The Queso Fundido was fantastic and worth coming back for, while the entrées didn't quite hit the same level. We discovered this spot on a whim for dinner, and I'm so glad we stopped in! The restaurant has a nice, spacious free parking lot, and the service was quick, friendly, and efficient from start to finish. We started with the Texas Twinkie, and it was the standout of the meal. It's basically a jalapeño popper stuffed with brisket and topped with a sweet agave chili glaze that gives it a delicious sweet and spicy kick. I personally would have preferred a little less glaze, but it was still incredibly flavorful, and I'm honestly still thinking about it. Even though they're known as a tequila bar, don't sleep on the mocktails! I ordered the Hibiscus Cooler, and it was light, refreshing, and the perfect pairing for the meal. For our entrées, I ordered the mojo pork tacos. They were good, but I ended up adding some extra habanero hot sauce to give them more of a kick. I also appreciated that they have several hot sauce options available, including Cry Baby Craig's, Cholula, and habanero sauce. We couldn't decide between the brisket mac and cheese or the elote, so we ordered both to share. The elote had a strong lime flavor that overpowered it a bit for my taste. The brisket mac and cheese, however, was delicious. It could have used just a little more seasoning in our opinion, but it was loaded with generous portions of tender brisket and had the most satisfying cheese pull. My husband also really enjoyed his birria tacos. Overall, this was a great impromptu date night. Good food, refreshing drinks, excellent service, and plenty of parking. Everything I've ordered from here has been delicious. This time I tried two new things, Quesa Birria Taco and Elote. I hadn't had Birria before and it tasted wonderful. Savory, tender shreds of beef in a taco grilled with onions and cheese was a juicy surprise. The taco was crispy and added a nice crunch along with the diced onion. I really appreciated the extra cilantro. My sides were Elote and refried beans, which came with a generous cup of queso fresco crumbles. The Elote was a tender, sweet corn cob with spices and queso fresco and it really hit the spot. The refried beans weren't the canned mush typical of restaurant beans; they had flavor and texture and the cheese made them even better. There's a reason I come back here again and again. read more

We ordered the Queso Fundido and it's wasn't cheese it was some sort of glue that no chip could dip into. You have to try to scoop it with your spoon to get it out and somehow get on a chip. It was gross! My brisket burger was well over cooked when I asked for pink and a Whooper has more favor. Our salad were covered in carrots and my had a bug on it. My husband, daughter and I arrived right at lunch opening. It wasn't busy by any means and our appetizer and drinks came out lightening quick! But when it came to our entrees, those took a lot longer to the point where I almost flagged our server down to ask for an update. It was a Sunday, which meant happy hour was all day. Stopped in for lunch before our tour of Paisley Park. Beautiful ambiance. Great patio area as well although to chilly for us to sit out there. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was wonder and super pleasant. She had great drink ideas for us, as non of us were experts in tequila but felt we needed to respect the name and drink tequila. I would bet that this place doesn't exist in 24 months. I wish it were still the Applebees it used to be. Went on a Friday night for dinner. Expected it to be busy and it certainly was not. We opted to sit at the bar. It took awhile to be acknowledged but eventually got the attention of the bartender. Started with a margarita. It was fine. Then ordered the chips and salsa and asked to add guac. He said they don't offer that as an add on any more and would need to get the chips that came with it. We said fine but seems like a waste if people are willing to pay just for the guac. Chips were ok. Guac was decent. Salsa was fine but tasted like something you could pick up at Target. The menu is a bit of a confusing mess. There are two sections of tacos. The response to asking the difference is one had topping and one you add you own. Wife got already topped tacos and I got the non-topped to add my own. Hers were pork and alright. I got brisket and got the bigger bunch of cilantro I've ever seen, sliced white onion, raw sliced chunks of jalapeños and pickles that you would find on a cheese burger. The toppings could have been more unique to the build your own tacos. No sides came with the tacos. I asked if I could get the rice I saw with other meals because I wasn't feeling Mac and cheese or mashed potatoes with my tacos. The bartender made it seem like a big deal but ordered it for us. We also got the refried beans. The food came out and we didn't get the rice and got some bbq green beans by mistake. They were mushy. Rice was ok. Refried beans were ok. The bar was sticky. Bartenders weren't very attentive. Food was ok. I never got my Coke I ordered. This place doesn't know what it wants to be. Mexican food? A bbq smoke house? There is a tiki bar in the back from one of their other failed restaurants. This place has identity issues. This was our second time hosting a small event at Tequila Butcher -- our first was an anniversary, and this time we came back for a birthday celebration with a group of about 25 people. Unfortunately, while the food and staff attitudes were great, the overall experience left a lot to be desired due to severe understaffing and poor organization. For both events, we made our reservations well in advance (a month ahead for the anniversary, three weeks ahead for the birthday), so there was plenty of notice for the restaurant to prepare. During our anniversary visit, the servers were friendly but struggled to keep up -- dishes piled up, food got mixed up, and it took a lot of effort to stay organized. This most recent visit was even more difficult. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant wasn't very busy, yet they were extremely short-staffed. Our server -- a redheaded woman whose name I didn't catch -- was incredible and truly did her best despite being the only server for the entire Restraunt. She was attentive, kind, and efficient, but simply didn't have enough help. To avoid confusion this time, I ordered food for the whole group in a shareable style to make things easier. Even so, I found myself clearing dishes, organizing menus, passing out plates and silverware, and making room for new dishes between two large tables. I was essentially helping to bus and manage the table just to keep things moving. The bartender also had to limit how many people from our group could order drinks because he was the only one working behind the bar -- understandable, but it really hurt the experience. Many people stopped ordering altogether because they felt bad for the staff being so overwhelmed. The food was fantastic and everyone enjoyed what we ordered, which is the only reason I didn't rate this lower. The staff truly tried their best -- the problem is not with them, but with management for not scheduling properly. When a restaurant knows in advance about a large party, there's really no excuse for being this short-staffed. With better preparation, they could have tripled their drink sales and kept customers much happier. We were charged the standard 20% gratuity for the large party, which is fair in most cases -- but it felt wrong to be paying that when I was doing a large part of the serving myself. Still, I didn't want to take it out on the hardworking staff. In the end, I wish I could have relaxed and enjoyed the evening with my friends and family for my wife's birthday, but I spent much of it trying to fill in for missing staff. Tequila Butcher has great food and some truly good people working there, but until they figure out how to properly staff large groups, I can't recommend it for events. read more

I've been hearing about Tequila Butcher for some time now and was excited to go for Sunday lunch with my family. My first impression that I am pretty sure this was the old Applebees in chanhassen, but the inside was way more aesthetically pleasing than your average Applebees. I'm not sure if we visited on an off day, but for a Sunday lunch we were one of maybe 4 tables in the entire establishment. I was surprised at how dead it was. Either way, the food was alright(everyone said I got the best thing - the French toast), service was good, and there's a loaded Bloody Mary that had all the bells and whistles. We had such a great experience at Tequila Butcher in Eden Prairie! I ordered a tequila flight and loved how the server made great substitutions when a few items were out--she really knew her stuff. Even though she seemed to be holding down the fort as bartender, waitress, and server all at once, she worked incredibly hard and never missed a beat. The food was excellent and the portions were huge--definitely above and beyond what we expected. My husband ordered the build-your-own chicken tacos, and it came with what looked like half a chicken--no way he could finish it. Great bang for your buck! The menu seems to be evolving, and it feels like they're fine-tuning their concept, but the flavors are absolutely on point. The manager even stopped by as we were leaving, took photos for us, and encouraged us to share our experience. You can tell they really care about making this place a success and are putting their hearts into it. Next time, we're checking out the speakeasy-turned-tiki bar hidden inside--such a cool concept! This has to be the best restaurant I've ever been to! I've been to Gordon Ramsay's restaurants in London and this tops that! Everything was amazing. I got three tacos, the chicken Tinga and two Baja fish tacos. My wife loves Brussels sprouts so she had those as a side. She said they were to die for. Amazing tacos! (Last visited 4/21/2022.) Hanging out in Chanhassen, MN for work and it's lunch time with some coworkers! Someone threw out "Tequila Butcher" as a potential lunch spot. It's nearby so here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is nestled right in like... not quite a plaza, but an "area" that is also next to Buffalo Wild Wings, a tire shop, Chipotle and other businesses. There's a private parking lot so there's no worries about where to put your fly ride. The exterior looks like a cantina of sorts and is well put together. Inside is very modern, laid-back, calming and gives me a tavern feel. Once inside the bar is front and center with seating surrounding it. Off to the left is a BEAUTIFUL tequila wall complete with barrels for aesthetic. The walls are white brick with an exposed high ceiling and the noise level was quite moderate. There is also a more intimate and private dining section complete with another bar through an entrance near the tequila wall. Service: Bob took care of us. He didn't show much personality, which could be HIS personality, but he was patient, took care of us and just made sure we had whatever we needed as we sat at the bar. Food: So we started off with the Texas Twinkies! It's a jalapeño wrapped with bacon then stuffed with cream cheese and smoked brisket. It was VERY good with a bit of sweetness in the sauce as well as a smokey, super rich flavor. The pepper was quite spicy and their was a great saltiness from the bacon/brisket. For my entrée I went with the 3-Taco meal-deal. You can totally get 3 different kinds if you choose, which is what I did. The ground beef taco was a lil, bland, lil' dry and genuinely unexciting. The Al Pastor was my favorite of the 3, but still could've used more of a punch. The Carne Asada was the blandest of all 3 and the tortilla was chewy... so, yeah. However, I did enjoy the thick tortilla chips and the guacamole was super creamy! Value: Not too bad. With the Texas Twinkies you can order as many as you like for $5.00 a piece, but the minimum order is 3. So I had to spend $15.00 for them. My taco deal was also $15.00 and it came with 3 tacos of your choosing as well as tortillas chips with dipping sauces. In conclusion, I still really enjoyed myself here even though I didn't rave about my food. However, my coworkers' entrees did look great so I'd love to come back here and try something else! read more

The food took forever and once it came, it was terrible. Nothing was comped. It wasn't busy and we sat at the bar, but the bartender spent more time talking to other workers at the end of the bar. By far my newfound favorite restaurant. I went on a Saturday evening around 8pm and I was surprised that I did not need a reservation. In fact, it was very quiet inside with only a handful of other people there. The service was phenomenal and unlike anything I have experienced, I am sad that I didn't get out waiters name, but he was the most fun waiter I have had the opportunity to share my experience with. He recommended the chicken and let me tell you, my life changed after taking the first bite. I kid you not, I am positive I will never have chicken as good as this anywhere else. The only thing that put me off even slightly was the price of the food. Once I saw the portion sizes of what me and my wife ordered however, we were certain we would be having leftovers for a couple days after. We arrived on a Sunday for a birthday dinner and were immediately seated (this is a FCFS restaurant). Our server was so kind and informed us that Sundays is all day happy hour (aka: Sunday Funday). The Mexican cornbread was a must try and came out with a delicious agave butter that added sweetness to the hint of spice bread. We also ordered the limited Brisket (available until gone) that takes over 12 hrs of smoking and the Paella (1/2 side) that boasted jumbo shrimp, cheeses chicken and mussels. I had a lunch meeting here and I was really excited because I am a Tequila fan. The restaurant was very clean and decorated beautifully. There was a lot of natural light in there and also wood/metal details. The menus were also wood. Attention to details were here! We both ordered the fajita salad. I ordered it with shrimp and my coworker with steak. The salads were $18 each. This was a bit spendy for what you get, but it was tasty. I dunno if I would get that in the future on my dime, but it tasted fresh and had good flavor. They had a lot of smoked meats on the menu and you could smell it from outside. They also have jackfruit and an array of seafood options for anyone that doesn't eat beef or pork. This was great! I have yet to try jackfruit, but you could here! Of course, I had to try a cocktail. I wanted something light and refreshing, so I ordered the "Fruit of the Dessert". This has Blanco tequila, prickly pear, grapefruit , honey and lime. It was a stunning coral sunset color and garnished with an orchid. It was tasty and not overly sweet/ it had a good balance of flavors. Let me start by saying that our service was excellent! Ryan was kind, thoughtful and attentive while also providing great recommendations. We both started with drinks that were refreshing and great. The Brisket Mole is a MUST - it is one of the pricier options but so worth it and you get plenty of food for the next day. The meat is smoky and the mole has an incredible depth of flavor. It blew our socks off. The Carnitas tacos could have used a little more flavor, but I loved the corn and rice on the side. We also started with the crispy brussel sprouts which had a beautiful sweet and tangy sauce on top. It was loud inside when we arrived at 6:00 but quieted down by the time we left. The In Laws were in town so we took them to one of our favorite restaurants in the far West Suburbs, Tequila Butcher. They not only make some flavor bombs of smoked meat, but the Latin infused menu like paella and chorizo burger are knockout as well. Don't pass on the cocktails either, from barrel aged items to the largest tequila / mezcal list I have ever seen. We did the full gambit doing a full three courses here to get a real tasting of many dishes. Barrel aged Tequila Old Fashioned: To drink I went with a spin on a classic old fashioned. Instead of using a whiskey, they use Anejo Tequila combined with Coconut Sugar, Agave Nectar, Chai Tea, Falernum, and Jamaican #1 Bitters. The Tequila brings out a nice smokiness and earthiness to the cocktail with some fruit and black pepper flavors coming through with some of the other additions. Shrimp Ceviche: For our app, we knew we were going to have large mains so went with a lighter option. The Shrimp Ceviche is extremely fresh made with Argentine Red Shrimp, Pico, Leche De Tigre, and Avocado. Huge chunks of shrimp with pleasant acidity from the pico and leche de tigre. Smoked Chicken with a Side of Brussels Sprouts: I can't pass up crispy brussel sprouts so picked them as my side to a perfectly smoked 1/2 Chicken. The Brussel Sprouts are perfectly crisp with a sauce made of a Chipotle Agave Glaze and topped with Cotija Cheese. What can I say of the chicken? Executed to perfection being juicy, smoky, and a crisp exterior on top of a Pistachio Mole and Roasted Red Pepper Sauce that I could eat with a spoon. Tres Leches Cake: Ended the night with an extremely moist Tres Leches Cake that just melted in your mouth. The menu is mostly Latin inspired entrées and based on the group I was with; they did an excellent job on all the food. We were there for a late lunch which meant we still had access to the full menu for ordering. For an entrée, I went with the Cubano Sandwich and it lived up to its name. It came with a choice of fries or chips and I chose fries which were tasty. For a drink, I had the Tequila Old Fashioned which was perfectly mixed. Had I not been driving; I easily would have had a couple more of those. Our server was nice and was very capable of answering menu questions. knowledgeable of the menu. In addition to being fairly spacious on the inside, there is also a decent sized patio available. Great find! We had fast service with excellent food! Loved the patio area with music.

I live only a few minutes from this place and have ate inside, outside, and ordered for home. During its first few months there were a couple slip ups, but since it's been nothing but great. The service was attentive and made stellar recommendations and don't get me started on the El Diablo Margarita - SO GOOD!! The chips are homemade and come with huge portions. Was here a few days ago to use up a gift card I received. I ordered the bison burger and it was absolutely horrible!! Non edible, tastes like old TV dinner Salisbury Steak that sat out all night. Sent it back and got the Cuban torta.....still not good. The pulled pork was slightly edible but the sausage tasted like it had been soaked in liquid smoke as did the pulled pork. The ham was not edible and even looked like leather. I have had bison burgers and Cuban Tortas before and these were not even close to what they should taste like. Waste of time and money. On a good note: The brussel sprouts were really good!!! Our server ROCKED and she was not at fault for the horrible food. We ordered off the lunch menu and i also asked if they have good skinny margaritas. Our wonderful server, Mary B said she would make a great skinny margarita for me. She was spot on!
