The vibe here is super cozy. It was almost like going to eat at extended family members house. They have a menu but are pretty flexible about putting a meal together how you like. I ordered a grill cheese and got to choose the types of cheese as well as the side (I got fries). My mom & sister got chicken sandwiches and I tried a piece of the chicken, which was good and seasoned well. We also tried the fried pickles which were okay. They don't have a drink menu but will make you whatever they can as they have an open bar. I generally loved how friendly the staff were and how cozy the restaurant is overall! I can see why the community wouldn't let this place go! The owners Fran and Char are so sweet and friendly. Their staff is equally as friendly and kind - they know they're regulars and treat new comers as if they are regulars. Milton's graciously allowed me to teach a paint class there today. We had a great time, service was great and lunch was delicious. The rib nachos were DELECTABLE, the goat cheese bbq sauce is fire. I definitely need to go back and try the famous jerk Mac and cheese. read more

Unfortunately they will be closing their doors on October 31st, but this place has been my favorite place in twin cities for salmon, I am so sad to say goodbye, met girlfriends here last night for their wings and like I said my favorite Salmon, cheesy grits that are so delicious and creamy and cooked to perfection and I added an additional side of asparagus. Our waitress was amazing, never caught her name she took our orders without writing anything down, then did the same at 2 other tables before putting in the orders and not a single mistake. Talking to the people inside while waiting for a table I really got a sense that this spot means something to the community and I hope they can stay open. Making it my personal mission to make sure this place doesn't close If you're like me and have driven by often, THIS IS A MUST STOP!!! It is VERY cutesy and eclectic inside. I had some of the best tasting food I've had in awhile. The jerk Mac and cheese was other-worldly. The BBQ nachos, so well tiered and amazing overall. If you order right, it's very affordable too. Split a few things with your partner / friend; the portion sizes are very filling. Also, the friendliest staff I've had in a longggg time! Really good food. The ribs were really awesome - I love that they have the sauce on the side so you can really taste the flavors and smokiness. As a Texan, they really blew me away!! I also got the jerk chicken sandwich, which was awesome. Very well seasoned. The mac and cheese was great too! We never are in Crystal, but today we found ourselves there looking for a spot for a meal while freeway traffic cleared. We found Milton's and decided to give it a try and we were very happy with the food and the service. We each got soup - clam chowder and French onion - both were delicious! The we shared the black and blue salad with beef tenderloin. Everything was perfect - soups and salad dressings were house made and tasty. We sat outside along the sidewalk - a little noisy with Douglas Ave only a few feet away, but it was a lovely evening, so the car noise wasn't an issue. Sorry, we took no food pictures. Absolutely worth a stop. The Jerk chicken was super flavorful. Ribs were good with or without the sauce. Overall the menu has both familiar choices and more exciting ones! My apple & cheese salad was too largely chopped and with too little olive oil and chives to tie together; this was a big let down as I usually love this combo. The ambience is positive . Kind of a trendy bohoesk feel. Service was good, there was confusion between receiving the jerk chicken sandwich vs platter, it was easily fixed- though took a long time to rectify. I honestly didn't want to think too hard about choosing lunch for today, so I decided to check Yelp to see what was nearby. I stumbled across Milton's page and seeing that it was just around the block, I stopped by. After viewing their menu, the Jerk chicken Mac & Cheese caught my eye and my stomach sent stimuli to my brain which translated to me saying yes to the dish. I must say the inside is really cool and has a nice warm touch to it, which is very much appreciated when dining during the winters in MN. I was greeted very swiftly and one of the employees took my order. He gave me a very cool tip about the Mac and cheese, which was to add meat b/cuz it doesn't come with it. I chose chicken as my protein and to my dismay, the restaurant used chunks from a wholebone-in chicken instead of using just boneless chicken breast (which I very much appreciate). That small feature alone let me know that this meals was gonna be jam packed with flavor. I myself am Caribbean so my judgmental instincts were rampant and I had so many premature thoughts of what I might've been given. Safe to say it was absolutely delicious and I mean that with everything in me. I will say it doesn't give the utmost authentic Jamaican jerk flavor that I'm used to but it comes VERY VERY close and I am always open to variations in flavors and cooking styles. I assume it's homemade and for that reason I still give them a 5star. Nonetheless it blends well with the cheese, the pasta itself was cooked perfectly and portion size was phenomenal. I was so tempted to eat all of this in one sitting but I yielded to saving a bit of it for my girlfriend to have a bite as well... sharing is caring, ?right? Lol!! Overall a great experience and the food was served within a 5-10 minute timeframe after my order was taken. The parking is fair and I had no issues but please note that it's on the end of a block adjacent to a stop light so I imagine it could get busy there depending on when you decide to go. read more

Service was so slow. We ordered three minutes after being seated. The food came out about half an hour later. We saw three of our orders sit on the counter for at least six minutes. The fries were ice cold, and the sandwiches were barley warm. When the food finally arrived, I didn't have silverware or a napkin. I asked the server for silverware and napkin and she nodded. Then she took payment from the table to my right, and then payment from the table to my left. Char not only welcomed and seated us (no reservation on Valentine's Day ) but chatted with us at the bar while we enjoyed 2 perfectly cooked, generously proportioned hamburgers. The last time we tried eating at Milton's we were ignored in the entryway for over 10 minutes. That was years ago so we decided to try again. Service has not improved and they have a few signs posted to proactively excuse themselves. The kitchen isn't the problem. Once our order was finally taken the food was delicious. Final straw for me was having to ask for silverware and being brought a broken plastic fork because they were out of clean utensils on a Saturday afternoon. Hire more staff guys. Figure it out. The food and vibe is excellent. We love supporting local businesses. But dang, service is inexcusable. read more

Our son suggested that we stop here for dinner and we really enjoyed the stop. We arrived just before closing time, so were warned that they would be starting to clean up but it wasn't an issue at all. The decor was a little tongue in cheek and self-depricating - and the service was great. We ordered the Jerk Mac & Cheese with chicken (see picture) and it was delicious. A son ordered the Russian Rye (see picture) and another ordered the cheese burger - both really like the sandwiches and the fries were tasty and crispy. The place was packed with several large groups celebrating birthdays and an anniversary so it took quite some time for our server to come. I really like Milton's! I used to go quite often for Happy Hour in before times. I went back for outdoor seating this fall and loved the jerk chicken and mac-n-cheese. The shrimp and grits were okay, but I would definitely go back for more jerk chicken and french fries!! Their outdoor seating consisted of four top tables with plastic partitions between them! Extra safety precautions and privacy. I could barely hear our neighbors but it could also be the traffic from the sort of busy street. Either way it was a gorgeous day to eat outdoors. I really dislike leaving a review like this for a place I once loved.Let me start by saying the waiter was very nice and hospitable, a gem. Now the food was absolutely horrendous! The rice and peas was mushy with no flavor and for some reason the rice had chives in it, as someone who eats coconut rice and peas at home, I was confused by the look, texture and lack of taste. The jerk sauce was salty, overall the jerk was missing some key ingredients! The chicken itself self tastes oven baked, not grilled like in the past! Again the taste was confusing, this was a terrible attempt at jerk. I ordered more stuff, but I'll stop here era use everything was bad! The restaurant is not what it use to be. The flavor has changed. I was so disappointed and embarrassed because I had bragged about this place, now I'm not sure anyone will take my food recommendations again. read more

We picked up Milton's takeout for our anniversary dinner. We ordered online and within minutes of hanging up they called to apologize that they were out of the Mac and cheese we ordered. They offered and alternative of pulled chicken Mac and cheese which we accepted. You could tell they were on top of their customer service. When we arrived to pick up, there was a few minute wait so they gave us cookies!! So delicious! I'm for sure ordering those cookies next time. My favorites were the ribs, kale, and the Mac and cheese. We wanted the jerk chicken Mac but the pulled chicken was really good. We will have to try the jerk chicken version next time. My boyfriend gave me a hard time for ordering kale but he loved it too. The kale was cooked in a delicious savory sauce. I had the leftover kale cold the next day and it was just as delicious cold. I am not a mac and cheese person, so when I like mac and cheese it means it was on point. Awesome comfort food for any occasion. They were starting to open up for patio dining. My 2nd review of the year is dedicated to this awesome restaurant. Oh yea! So happy that my friend told me about this place. Delicious food, good service when I was there and great cocktails. I do however have to bring up two incidents during my visit, which was just for information and nothing to get all upset about. On your bill, there will be a nominal Wellness charge, which I understood was for maintenance of the restaurant, their parking lot etc. That charge does not go to servers/bartenders. It is for the owner because she has not increased her menu price for 7 years. Would you prefer she increased her pricing instead of calling this charge out separately? I think so because it may impact the tips that the servers get, just my opinion not factual. They also charged me $2 for Tito's vodka on top of my $7.50 martini, which I am not upset about but would have been nice to be asked before being charged. I do agree with the bartender that a higher quality vodka taste better especially if I am only having one drink and the base price of $7.50 was cheap. I would have liked to have made the decision to upgrade regardless, so I hope the owner or manager could take note of this comment! With that said, my lemon martini was strong and delicious and I love that the glass was chilled. The food was delicious! Both the shrimp and grits and their jerk chicken entrees were to die for! I ate everything and forgot to take photos. I didn't have any leftover food either, which was unusual because those who ate with me know I usually eat like a bird.
