We went to Schuller's Tavern on a Tuesday around 7:15 and it was fairly full. There is a big parking lot. There are about 5 handicap parking spots, but there is no ramp going into the restaurant, so you have to climb 2 steps to get in. It looked like there was a ramp into the off-sale shop, but I am not sure it was open. The vibe is kind of dive-bar, pull tabs, popcorn, lots of televisions playing sports, Trivia at 8:00. I thought it was very loud. Our server was very nice, but very distracted and busy. The onion rings were very good. Super hot when they come out, and they come with a sauce that was good. Not sure how to describe the sauce. I had the Steakhouse Salad, rare. It was ok, not great. The meat was rare as ordered, but it was tough and had an off flavor. Not like a rotting flavor, just like a bad cut of meat. The tomato vinaigrette that came with it was not great either, too much fake smoke flavor. My partner had the Scullers Famous Hot Angus Beef sandwich. He said it was really good. The meat was just a little chewy, but sliced nice and thin. The garlic mashed potatoes were really good and the gravy was amazing. Total was $92 with 3 drinks and a tip. read more

This is sports bar that feel very down to earth and family friendly . Everyone is nice and you go in to seat yourself. Service isn't incredible fast but people are nice and makes you smile. If you're patient and there for a fun chill time this is the place. Nice to place to go watch the game and hang out. I liked my Reuben it was flavorful. I think the bread could be a little thicker because the bottom was a bit mushy when I got it but I loved the taste. Everyone else finished their meals quickly and they were delicious ! read more

Too tired from the Lynx game the night before to cook so we headed to Schullers. No wait, and Abby our person was on point! Food came quickly, hot and yummy! I had the hot turkey sandwich. Husband had a burger, they always have good burgers. BUT the turkey sandwich actually had pulled turkey! No sliced deli meat pretending to be roasted turkey. This was the real deal, perfect comfort food for a cool Monday night. Can't say enough about Abby she was so attentive and definitely made it a feel welcome. read more

Stopped in on a very busy Friday afternoon...golf on TV, after work crowd get together and the "usual bunch" pounding beers around the bar. The place was jumping. We found an open table and were quickly and pleasantly greeted by our server (sorry...I lost his name). He provided some guidance and recommendations on the good-sized menu. My buddy went with the Fish & Chips and I had the Reuben (see photo)...both good choices. Our food arrived quickly, looking good and hot...a pleasant surprise considering the place was packed. Our server checked on us regularly in spite of the numerous, good-sized tables he had. We'll definitely visit Schuller's again and would recommend it to other Yelpers. Schuller's has been around for a long time. And it looks the same as it did then. We stopped by here for a couple of drinks and some apps. They have a decent variety of beers and a full bar. We for some drinks and some wings, sliders and a burger. The food was good and the drinks were cold. The wings were massive! but tasty. We went with the drunken wings sauce. Plus they have all the free popcorn you could want. Which my six year old went crazy for. The service was friendly and the food came out quick. Our server was really courteous and attentive. This has a very neighborhood feel and one of the better watering holes around the area. read more

I live in Golden valley and finally checked this place out! Food: We got the chicken nachos, Buffalo wings and a beef taco salad. Good nachos and salad, and we love finding places that do whole wings! The Buffalo sauce was good but nothing special. I would try a new sauce next time. Overall the menu has something for everyone, you won't be disappointed! Good happy hour deals (not great). Vibe: Perfect for me and my significant other. Cabinesk themed bar and restaurant, where the locals obviously go! The BEST EVER (no exaggerating) free popcorn haha. Looks like they host live music that I would go back for! We had heard of Schuller's for years and took a couple to lunch after reading a glowing review in the local daily paper. We were in a different Schuller's, or the reviewer was. Either way, our visit was a huge disappointment. To wit: After parking, we searched for a while before finding the door. We weren't sure if it was the front door or the employee entrance. It was a chilly day --outside and in. We asked the waitress if the heat could be turned up. She stated they had just opened, but the dining room will warm up in a few minutes. By the time we left, about an hour later, the chill was still in the air. Yes, Schuller's bills itself as a roadhouse. Lots of liquor, beer, bar food, and TVs tuned to sports channels. Some people choose not to drink or not drink alcohol in the late morning. After ordering only water to drink, the waitress's attention to our table changed. I ordered the hot turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes, touted on the menu as one of Schuller's signature dishes. Well, the turkey was dry, the bread hard, the gravy barely warm, and the mashed (with lumps) potatoes varied between cold and tepid --all indications that the kitchen took the food out of the freezer or fridge, plated it, and then stuck it in the microwave. It gives me no pleasure to pan a restaurant. But on the day of our visit, they hit the trifecta of a cold dining room, unpleasant wait staff, and poor-quality food. read more

One of the hockey dad's I met through coaching grew up in the area and told me I had to check out Schuller's (comparing it to the small town bar where I coach). If you like simple bar food and a no frills establishment - Schuller's Tav is for you. The pricing is pretty solid and the menu has a little bit of everything. I came during a weekend afternoon that wasn't a big sports day so it was pretty quiet. From what I was told - it can be quite the Friday/Saturday night hangout or venue to catch a game. If Golden Valley has "locals" like my hometown, I bet they are at Schuller's on the regular. I'd call it the anti-West End... So if you are trying to have a few drinks away from the newly 21 - this is your place. All said - it isn't going to be a favorite or a "go-to" of mine, but it is what it is and if you are looking for a bar that feels like a throwback to your small-town roots - this is probably your place. read more

We decided to walk over our experience was not very good this time with the food. The hostess & waitress where amazing. Things we tried: Chuck Steak:meat overly smothered in gravy potato's very dry looking me. Garlic Chicken pita: chicken rubbery/dry, pita hard not fresh feeling, lettuce brown tomatoes so cut fine smaller than salsa pieces, the only good part was the sauce even the tater tots where cold & I overcooked. Cajun pasta: very greasy very buttery tasting the bread was hard they served with it. Pork sliders: no meat you got 3 of them had to take all 3 to make 1 sandwich. Walleye fingers: had bones so my son was nervous to eat them. Kids corn dogs propositioned correctly for kids way over fried though & she did not eat 1 she did actually enjoy the dry chicken from my plate. Lemonade watered down. The place was packed maybe we ordered all the wrong items. The prices where very reasonable. read more

I am kind of surprised to see many lower ratings on Schuller's because I have never had a bad experience. I moved to the area over a year ago and have visited several times. The parking lot is large for a bar & I have yet to have an issue finding a spot. You can also do street parking if needed though. There are tons of tables, booths, bar spots, and now a decent sized patio. I saw someone write that this is a local's bar & gave it a lower review. I do not think I have ever been in a bar that does not have locals and regulars bellied up to the bar. Of course, the staff knows them and probably remembers their orders. That is awesome - and how I would love to be treated if I spent a lot of money in one place on a regular basis. They regulars get great service, but so have I as someone who visited less than 10 times in a year. I have sat at the bar, at a table, and recently visited their new patio. The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and usually pretty quick. I have had slower service a couple times, but usually when they are very busy. Drinks - tons of different options available for everyone. I have had champagne, beer, cocktails, seltzers and more. Food - I was first recommended to this place because they have the same food as Ray-Js. The wings are fresh whole wings, and the sauces/dry rubs are pretty solid. Their wings are crispy, juicy, and seasoned/sauced well. The popcorn machine intrigues me. It has a sheen over it like it has either been there forever or has never been cleaned. It tastes good...so not sure! I love playing pull tabs here as the staff is the friendliest. I will be back as it's a great spot in the area. read more

New patio is so awesome! So glad they could do that. Servers are nice and beer is cold. The menu is uninspiring and could use some love, especially the appetizers. All come served on a heavy plate, lacking any taste or presentation. Look to your friends over at New Bo and toss some fun into baskets and you'll get more customers ordering!! I have been hesitant to submit a review after a visit to this establishment some months ago until a few friends wanted to meet here for a happy hour gathering and after describing my experience to them, they convinced me I had to say something, especially considering the current climate of our society. We all work in the industry and thus not big on the Yelp App...that said, I decided to give your place a try after reading some articles about the place in the local papers and socials and it was WAY to hot to sit on your patio (what a gorgeous patio it is!) so I sat at the horse-shoe shaped bar. The bartender was great and prompt with service but after sitting a few minutes and chatting it up with the local "regulars" and having a great time, an older man (I can't say gentleman, because he was far from that!) came in and there was an obvious shift in behavior of the other patrons. I mean a literal shift, many leaving the side of the horse shoe I was sitting at. Being my first time I didn't think much of it, I know how regulars can be with their seats! But then I began to understand...the man was mumbling racial/bigoted/inappropriate slurs. Not at anyone in particular, that I could tell anyway, but my guess is that he was expressing himself regarding the shift in mood of the place. I just think the management should know. read more

New patio with nice landscaping and attentive wait staff. we did suggest the waitress convey a message to the chef - two tenderloin sandwiches were fried dry and served on dry toast. they'd be much better on one of their warm buns with a pickle. I would leave zero stars if possible. What I saw last night was disgusting behavior from the customers and the staff. Sexist and racist comments pointed at me and other customers while the bartender just laughed along. Several people were uncomfortable. the worst part was when a cook walked out of the kitchen and one of the "regulars" said, "where did you hide your gun you Puerto Rican looking F@&$?" And his 3 friends laughed loudly; the cook looked upset but only said, "I'm Colombian." It was a mob mentality and the bartender allowed this group to pick on everyone else at the bar. As I walked out I tapped the cook on the shoulder and said, "I can tell your Columbia. I'm sorry." After he thanked me, one of the "regulars" yelled at me as I walked out saying, "nobody cares bitch!" But I do. read more

This local spot has been a fixture of Golden Valley for a long, long time and it has an atmosphere of neighborliness and good old midwestern tavern flare. Really nice servers, a kitchen that delivers your food in a reasonable time, and plenty of room between tables -- which is appreciated on a busy Friday evening as patrons move around to grab a basket of free popcorn or visit with friends. We were there to try their Friday fish fry special. It is advertised on the menu as cod, but I thought the taste and texture of the fish was more like pollack. And that's an ok fish (it's what McDonalds uses in their Filet-O-Fish sandwich). But, frankly, a better battered piece of cod can be had at Culver's. The batter at Schuller's, while crispy and fried to a deep golden brown, is simply overwhelming. Almost a meal in itself. On the plus side, their coleslaw is outstanding and tater tots were delicious with just the right amount of seasoning and crunch. So, five stars for service and atmosphere, but I'd recommend choosing something else on their menu -- and there are a lot of other choices, from pizza to prime rib. I'd go back to sample either one, especially the thin crust sausage pizza which was being eaten at the table next to ours. It looked amazing. read more

Ordered takeout. Call the restaurant and spoke to someone. I ordered a Reuben. It didn't come with thousand Island on it Yet I ordered an extra side of thousand Island with my order. I called back to the restaurant and asked them if they normally don't put thousand Island directly on the sandwich. The answer was no they do not but they put it on the side for the patron to decide up themselves if they would like to use it. Funny, I didn't get any at all. So he couldn't eat the sandwich because what's a Reuben without thousand Island? It's an expensive Reuben without thousand Island this time! It's unfortunate that it was my first visit. And my last. Gross. We ordered take out. The Buffalo wings were wet and had rubbery skin. They packed 3 (3") celery sticks in foil alongside the wings which made them warm and mushy. Ordered ranch and blue cheese - received nothing. We ordered the walleye fingers which were inedible and mushy. When we pressed the "fish" (mostly batter), oil oozed out. Yuck. The only thing that was fine (and that's a MN fine) was the chicken tenders - taste just like Tyson tenders from the grocery store. Just had late lunch there it was the worst I've ever had. I hand a order of chicken tenders and a order of onion rings it was over 25.00 for the appetizers got 3 tenders and about 6 onion rings and half of them were stuck together and cold. We happened to sit facing the kitchen saw cooks eating and lots cross contamination. Then food sat on a counter no lamps for 10 minutes before food was served. Never again. I'm so glad this bar is able to continue to operate during covid. However, the wait staff should be better educated on the rules pertaining to a pandemic. I was berated by one specific waitress (Angie) regarding the mask regulation, apparently covid is only an issue for females. I witnessed several men walking around the bar with no face covering with no repercussions but as a female, I was pointed out as the one not complying. My business will go elsewhere. read more

Kind of a divey neighborhood bar in Golden Valley where all the locals go. A lot of funny people and character and 3lbs of wings for about $14.00 (Good for 2 people). The tavern has a sleepy and slightly old-timey kind of vibe to it, with warm and worn furnishings, friendly servers, and a slower-paced clientele. They even have a fun popcorn machine in the corner. I can't comment on the food, since we just got drinks - which were pretty run-of-the-mill. If you're looking for a hip and happening yuppie bar, you should probably look elsewhere. But if you'd like a calm and casual place for a get-together with friends, Schuller's might be your spot. read more

You can pretty much get anything your heart desires here. For example, my dad wanted a down home meatloaf dinner complete with mashed potatoes and boiled carrots, boom, he got it, and it was good. i couldn't pass up the roast beef sandwich with horsey sauce and steak fries and my sister got a BLT. I will not go back to that place ever again. Just made my first order online and unfortunately it was a disappointment. The food was good, but the order was incorrect. Called to inform them about their mistake and the customer service was poor at best. No apology, no offer to make it right, just a thanks for letting them know. I am in the service industry and know what a pain online orders can be, but I think they could do better or at least at the places I have worked we would have done better. I also intentionally ordered after 1:00pm to avoid their lunch rush. maybe I should have checked their reviews first. It doesn't look like I am the first person to have an issue.
