I scheduled it online and it was really easy. Mask are required and everyone wore them which was great. We had 75 minutes for $35 each person. We had two lanes and after our demo, we threw axes. The demo was super helpful. I was having so much fun with my group that we tried to aim for bullseyes and try out different axes. Time flew by! I though 75 minutes would be too long but it was loads of fun! I'd go by again. P.S. The place can get pretty warm with all those bodies so keep that in mind. I was looking for something to do this weekend on a rainy day with my family. Something boys and girls and old and young alike would like. In my family we are obsessed with Zombies and end of the world scenarios. Yeah we're weird like that- Anyhoo on Yelp I see this axe throwing place and think this is a great idea and de-stressor for us older folks. So Berkeley parking is a biotch!! Super hard on a Sunday to find a spot. The business per say has no parking but the street with meters. It was a doozy to find some where to park. Be warned. Next you check in and sign a waiver. Everyone in group and minors go under the adults waiver. I had my 14 yr old son. 5 people per lane. Less than 5 you might have to share with strangers. I made a reservation through their website. $26 pp plus tax. Axe throwing is harder than it seems at first but practice make perfect: They have some sodas and snacks but thats it in regards to food. Some people have adult bdays there. After a brief introductory course to Axe throwing you are on your own. The staff is funny and chill and willing to help in any way. *Optional for $20 you can buy a zombie poster that will be mounted up on the wood that bleeds red and blue when you hit the targets. Very fun! Walked in and was greeted nicely by those sitting at the desk and they were quick to offer the next possible time, which was only a 30 min wait. Was enough time to go out and walk on the street to burn off time. It's about 58$ (with college student discount at 7$ dollars) not including tip, for a whole hour of axe throwing. Even better there's music playing and large fans for your workout. And the instructor of course comes out to demonstrate and let you know how to throw if it's your first time. The pros to this place outweighed the minor cons. So let me just get those out of the way. Parking...but duh, that was to be expected in this area. Sure, there's free parking in the residential areas as well as meter parking in the main streets. There are also a few parking garages near. But it's a matter of finding a space on a Friday night. And when you're trying to organize a group of people to arrive at the same time because it's a surprise, the parking situation stressed me out! The restroom...all I can say is, just hold it. You're only there for 1.5 hours and boy, does time fly when you're having fun! I was trying to plan a surprise birthday event and Axeventure was Part One. The guests were to arrive without knowledge of what they were doing so the rule to wear closed-toe shoes caused some grumbling. It concerned me as well, but I want to clarify the precaution does NOT mean everyone has to come in steel-toed shoes. Sneakers are fine! Cute, little ankle boots are fine! - whatever, just as long as your feet are covered. That should probably be clarified on all their marketing material and I suspect they get that question a lot. Cons be gone, now the pros: Booked AxeVentures for a birthday party. Chris was great to work with, he immediately responded to all my inquiries via email, phone calls and texts. I can be needy that way. They allowed me to put up my own decorations, they even provided me with a fold-out table to put out the snacks and non-alcoholic drinks I brought. We printed out our own targets ( like zombies, and another thin-skinned monster) and they provided the duct tape. Although like shooting ranges, having a variety of targets to purchase wouldn't be a bad thing - just saying. Just glad they allowed us to bring in our own. An hour and a half is plenty of time, even with a group as large as ours. A staffer came over to let us know we had 15 minutes left in our booking, but he also upped the ante with a small target challenge to earn some free merch. That didn't happen, but it was fun trying. It really got our group going. Three lanes, 15 participants and some friends who came just to watch. Plenty of room for all of us to sit, watch, or throw but most importantly, have a great time! read more

What an Axecellent time! We used a Groupon deal and surprised our friend for his birthday with a 90 minute axe throwing adventure. They have five to a lane and the place has 7 lanes total. After a quick demo and safety procedures we were given our axes and let to take a shot on our lanes. It took a little to get used to be we all ended up being successful and had a blast. They also have for a $20 fee different targets you can add that "bleed" paint when you hit them. We opted for the clown. I went here for a date, and it was so much fun! It doesn't take too long to get the swing of things. Orientation/demo is pretty short so you can go right into axe throwing. There's a fun basketball hoop to keep you entertained before coming in as well. I spent about an hour throwing axes, and this was a sufficient amount of time. This was such a fun experience!! The rules and safety protocols are explained thoroughly and clearly, along with demonstration, before you begin your session- our guy checked for understanding often & offered plenty of opportunity to ask questions. He also came back to check on us after we got going, to see if we needed or wanted any tips or help. There were three different sizes and styles of axes to use, and we were also given target stickers to place on the wooden boards. I bought a groupon for this place as a gift for the significant other. I didn't read the fine print and you can only use it on weekdays. We're a little far from here so during the next bank holiday, we made a reservation and made the trek up here. We arrived a few minutes early and signed a waver. Then they have these games you cn play around with while your waiting. A ring game (similar to darts), big jenga, and connect 4 among some of them. Then we got a quick tutorial from Darion (I think was his name). He was very nice and patient and checked on us regularly, at least at the beginning. He got busier as our time went on. There was another gentleman (Asian, but didn't catch his name) who gave me some pointers at the end, which helped and I think I was getting the hang out it by then. The tutorial was just a few minutes and then we had at it. The website warns that you might have to share lanes. But there were just 6 of us when we got there. So each couple got their own lane. Not sure if that's the case if it gets really busy. About 15 minutes into our throwing session, our axe actually broke in half. Haha. And we had to get a new axe. Apparently 2-3 axes break per day. I think an hour and half for two people is plenty of time. Any longer and I think our arms would've been tired a lot sooner. And they have some games you can play to make it a little more interesting. My bf started getting really good and the hang of it about halfway through and he hit the board every time. So he started playing those games, trying to hit every ring. Also they have smaller targets above the big regular target and he started aiming for those and getting them. He also said an hour and half was plenty - otherwise it would start to get boring. Fun thing to do - not sure if I could make it a regular thing. read more
