On September 28, 2024 I purchased a vehicle from Axis Chevrolet at 685 Garfield St in Jersey City, NJ. I went there to purchase a 2023 Toyota Camry after seeing an ad on both CarGurus.com and the Axis website for $23,998 After signing the paperwork of agreement to purchase the car the gentleman came back with a paper claiming about an "Axis Advantage" fees and taxes that price needs to be adjusted for the state of New Jersey because of tax purposes. I told the man, no that is not correct because the ad said $23,998. He assured that the price won't change. So I signed. After doing the paperwork was done. The price was adjusted to $28,895. I went home with a bad taste in my mouth because something wasn't right. I called the dealership on Monday September 30, 2024 and spoke with the man. I mentioned to him what was done was false advertisement. That the supposed Axis Advantage was not mentioned in either ad on CarGurus.com and their website. At the end of the conversation nothing was resolved and he asked to come in to have the adjusted paperwork. I drove two and a half hours to the business and nothing was done. He gave me the same spiel. I mentioned to him that I legally had a three day grace period to either return or readjust the contract and his response was "That only matters if the sales person goes to your home to make a sale." Knowing the response was wrong, I didn't argue and said to him, "Ok." And walked away. I never received that ONE copy of the Axis Advantage adjustment in my purchased paperwork. The reason for this complaint on the business is there was false advertisement of the vehicle listed at $23,998 and then adjusted to $28,985. I traded my Chevy Equinox for $2000 and deposited $10,000. I received a finance of $21,000 and change making the total car at $33,000 and change ($12,000 deposit) I also got charged for tires and wheels for a used car. When I first got there, I was greeted by Harout Gapikia (old dude) who signed us in. Right away I got bad vibes from the dude because he was asking some personal questions regarding my last name. Then he assigned us to a sales agent named Angel. He was very nice and respectable. However, when I asked to test drive the car I was looking at, he wanted my social security number (second red flag). I told him first I wanted to talk about the numbers and to test drive the car. He said he would be right back with that information. I thought maybe he went to print out the numbers, but then the old dude came back and it went downhill from there. He was rude and arrogant and looked like he wanted the car more than I did. The third red flag was that he didn't appear to want to negotiate on the price of the car and refused to remove a warranty that came with the car. Usually warranties are optional, never a requirement. I got up and stormed out. If you ever go to this dealership, ask for Angel and if you see grandpa coming, ask for another sales agent. Samantha lied to my face saying the tires were brand new, then went off talking about something else so I trusted her word... to find out from my Dad that the radial threads on the inside on the tires were showing so bad he was surprised they didn't blow up on the highway going home. I have a baby and she knew that. They didn't even care about my safety or my daughter's which is horrible. She also told me my car would be under my name, but it's actually under my dad's. The fact they illegally didn't inspect my car before selling it to me to make sure it was SAFE to DRIVE is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. This place needs to close down immediately. At first I was so happy getting my 1st car, and I do love it.. but the fact that I have to spend money to replace 4 tires on my "new car" because they didn't do their job inspecting it and disclosing everything wrong with it is truly disgusting. I wish I can give it no stars to be honest.I came to hell house to purchase a 2019 Kia optima FWD with my mother. The car was great I just wish it was at a different dealer, we walked inside sat down and our agent "kalhed" if that's how you say his name walked us to his desk to speak price. He shows us the paper which had extra fees... a waypoint fee which is a tracker "they " put into the car and an axis type of warranty, His first mistake was that with the car comes with a second key when the car is purchased and receive the plates, but he didn't know if there was a second key or if we will receive the key. Well that doesn't make sense why wouldn't you know if there is the second key if y'all know everything else about the car wh wouldn't you know that, he says "Oh my boss would know if the car came with an second key which I'll check with him" cool, walks away then comes back with said "boss" and he explained what kalhed just tried to explain to us which threw my mom off. We move on from that and start negotiating prices he takes off the waypoint fee which is cool but he keeps the warranty which we don't have to put on the car. We are not agreeing with the price he's giving us he says look you give us a price and we said the price, he said look let me see what my boss says, give me your credit card, which was very unprofessional, and he says let me see what he says. Now me and my mom look at each other saying what a joke. We do what he asked to see hoping that we get the deal. He comes back without my mom's card and tries to still add on the warranty and keep going with negotiations. He was very disrespectful trying to beat around the bush...jokes, this and that. I think he really thought he had people skills and was smoove. But in reality he came off as an old man getting nowhere. We were sold a used car with a bumper defect. The bumper interior was held together by black tape and came apart as we drove home on the highway. Estimates for repair came in at approximately $1500 by two body shops. Axis didn't want to pay, so they offered to fix it, at less expense which was a band-aid like patch through their own body shop. It fell apart 8 mos later. They will not make the appropriate fix and will not acknowledge that the repair was done poorly. Changed mind B/c they raised the price dramatically when we ready to sign. They offer a low price to attract you in at the beginning. When you there, they give you an higher but reasonable price before you sign. After you agree, they ask for the down payment, and when you ready for the papers, they give you an unreasonably high price, including about $5000 in maintenance fees, document fees, etc. My experience, $27000+ online, then asked for $32000 b4 sign, but at the end the contract was $40000+. When We disagreed to continue the contract, They illegally hold our down payment, and said the manager was left and Money cannot be withdrawn from the safe. Told us go back in a few days. When we back on the day they told us to go back, they were just trying to sell us another car. We asked for the money back before to talk anything else. they excused that the accountant was not there and the money could not be withdrawn. We were told that the only additional fees were Tax, DMV, and a dealer fee of $895. A few days later, we decided to make an appointment to go see the car and explicitly asked the same question again. We again were definitively told there were no other fees. When we arrived at the dealership, the salesperson showed us the vehicle and then said we should talk numbers. Went today in search for a pre owned vehicle which I viewed online. The images online did not show the extensive damage to the interior of the car nor the damage to the rims. We thought nothing of it and went in search for another car in the lot. We found on but when we turned it in we noticed that the mileage was completely incorrect it said 20k miles but the car said 107,000k miles. I was very uneasy purchasing a vehicle with that much mileage but the sales rep Peter gave me a price of $11,500 and said he would give me a 3 year warranty for an additional $15 a month. When we finally sat inside after the test drive. All the documents to make a payment and run our credit came immediately. I asked in multiple occasions to please provide a breakdown on all the fees along with an explanation. No one likes hidden fees. They came out with a monthly payment which sounded good but didn't make sense since we were putting down half. We realized that they were giving us a price on the wrong car. They went back in monthly went down but it still didn't make sense. From 12000 we put down half and we're financing tax and 6 k. But after the monthly payments and hidden fees our overall purchase was coming out to 27, 000. Turns out the were hiding a huge fee and never took a moment to explain. They added the book value as a fee so an additional $ 3000 without even telling us that the 12k was truly 15k plus tax fees ext... they only brought it up after I requested to speak to the manager because why should my total cost be 27k after putting down 6k on a 12k dollar car. The worst part was they denied to give us our cash back because the safe was closed and we had to wait till Wednesday to get a check back. Please save yourself the time, money and aggravation. I completed an online deal with this dealership through cargurus. Spoke several times yo Bryonna who confirmed the details of the Carguru deal will be honored. We lice over 5 hours away and so we made an appointment to come see the vehicle. I also told Bryinna that we were obtaining our own financing through PSECU and to confirm the amount of the purchase. She reiterated the deal amount agreed upon woukd be honored. We applied for the loan and a check was being mailed to our home for the purchase of the car. Our credit report was already ran and we had the loan. My husband gets on the dealership website and they had raised the price by $3000! So we called Bryonna, who put us through to a very rude "manager" who stated that with inflation (Mind you it was 2 days) the price had gone up! The whole month of December it kept going down! She said they didn't have to honor the deal! I asked to speak to a manager and she said, I am the manager. So I asked to speak the HER manager. I was rudly put on hold and then told he was busy and would have to call us back. We contacted Cargurus and filed a complaint. I attempted to purchase a manual 2019 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback with roughly 18,000 miles on it from Axis Chevrolet. The price was originally listed on CarGurus as $26,900 and it had been dropped $21,995. I spoke with a gentleman over the phone stating that I was from Massachusetts, and it was almost a 200-mile drive for my fiancé and I. He informed me that they do not hold vehicles (even with a deposit) and I would need to drive down to secure the car. I asked why the price was dropped so much and he said it just wasn't moving and that not as many people can drive a stick, adding that it was "pristine". I called 4 times over the course of the week for information regarding putting my paperwork in order, each time stressing that it would be my only day off. He reassured us of the availability and the legitimacy of the pricing. I made an appointment and drove down a couple days later. In the interim, they dropped the price again, down to 21,499. It was roughly a 5-hour drive, one way, with traffic, and I had been up since 2 am. They stated that the appointment was not made with anyone specific and that the agent on the phone doesn't work with customers in-person. The gentleman that ended up helping me approached me as I was inspecting the car. "She's a virgin" he said, while taking a drag on a vape in front of my fiancé. I asked why there was a hook up for a flat tow bar on the frame to which he replied that it was "one of those things that cops have on the front of their cars." As this is a Honda Civic and no one would ever fit one with a push bumper, I became aware he did not know anything about the car. The car that was described as pristine hadn't even been washed prior to our arrival and was caked in dirt and pollen. It was in decent shape but had a greater amount of wear for a car that only had 18,000 miles on it. I presume this car was used as tow-behind for an RV (given the tow bar hookup mounted to the frame), something which was never confirmed or denied at my questioning. At this point he brought us back inside saying we weren't allowed to take it for a test drive until we "talked pricing". He came from the back with $29,850 written on a piece of paper and the Carfax. I said there was no way I would pay that much more for the car and that I needed an itemized list of the fees. The taxes and registration were the expected amounts. What was unexpected was the $5k pre-delivery service fee. This is when the manager was invited over. This man did not crack a smile through the experience, during which he was poorly informed and condescending. He stated the service fee was for maintenance and that the cars don't come in in the condition we see them in as consumers. I questioned what maintenance was performed as I was told this car came in pristine. He danced around the question never providing an answer eventually offering that "brakes alone cost $700". I retorted that the car didn't have new brakes from my inspection so that information was irrelevant to me. I continued that, if this was a tow-behind, while the car may only have 18,000 miles on the odometer, it may have 40,000+ miles on the suspension, wheel assemblies and the transmission. He attempted to correct me about the transmission (which would be disengaged) to which I continued that I was referring to the bearings in the transaxle where the cv joints meet. This misplaced objection was his only offering in the matter. I said I was leaving, and they took $500 off. I then left and drove home in traffic for 7 hours through New York City and Providence. I left a negative review on CarGurus because of the experience and received multiple phone calls from them while I was at work. I answered stating I could not talk and would call them back. I called them back on my lunch. The associate on the receiving end was flustered and the conversation was disjointed, opening with "you didn't find nothing yet?" Confused I asked if this was about the car I saw the previous day. He responded by saying, "My boss say's 1300 off is the best he can do." I informed him, I was not willing to drive another 13 hours for only being up-charged a $3,700 "predelivery service fee". The call ended. The following day the original point of contact from the internet division called as a follow up, starting the conversation with "it looks like you didn't get a chance to see the car." I replied that I DID in fact see the car and I had a terrible experience in the dealership leading me to drive 13 hours for no reason. I was then placed on hold for 7 and a half minutes. Upon his return, he informed me that he would send my number to a general manager so they could help improve my experience. As of this writing, I have given them 5 days to reach out with no follow-up from the general manager. My entire experience could have been avoided if during one of my MANY precursory phone calls, they had just been honest about the final pricing. read more

I even paid over sticker for my vehicle because it was hard to find one in September. From messing up my final contract at point of sale and putting down the wrong the finance amount to giving me the wrong second key to a different vehicle to not returning phone calls, this was a very bad experience. Made an offer of $2k below asking on a $40k car. I had to chase them for days for a response. Finally got a flat no, no counteroffer. Fast forward 2 months, they still had the car and had reduced the price to my original offer price. I told them I'd pay their reduced asking price plus dealer fees and pay in cash (or finance if it made it more worth their while). Another week of chasing and false promises about them putting the offer together for me. Several calls to multiple salespeople and managers, again no response. Finally, they sell the car out from under me. Not once were any of them courteous, honest, or truthful about following up on their commitments.
