Front of hotel, we were on bottom floor. Just a very quiet and peaceful hotel.

Very peaceful hotel! Great location, it's next to a small shopping/restaurant center. Right off the freeway but you can't hear it. I had looked at probably 20 different hotels before deciding on Ayres Lodge. So many other hotels would've been closer to our event in Santee but had horrible ratings and way too expensive! Worth driving the few extra miles. Upon checking in the staff was nice, we asked for restaurant recommendations and they gave us some good ones! One was Grand Ole BBQ Flinn! The room we got was downstairs in front and it was great. Parking was no problem, there was plenty. Just FYI, there are no elevators, just stairs. This is not a modern building. But don't let that stop you from staying here! The room was very nice and clean. The bathroom/shower all worked fine. We had a mini fridge. We were there 2 night, everything was great and would definitely stay again. The town of Alpine was great, we went to a Wine and Cigar Bar, it was relaxing in their outdoor patio. We tried eating at Janet Montana's for breakfast but because of the Holiday it was beyond packed. Hopefully we'll try next time. :-)

Review #092 - 2019 We showed up at around 6:30 PM on April 4th and the check-in process was pretty quick & easy. When my niece heard that there was free fresh baked cookies from 7-8 PM everyday, she was super excited! We went to put our stuff away & check out our room, and everything was nice & clean. The bed was nice and comfortable, even though I had to share it with my niece & daughter--while my son had the other bed all to himself. We came back to grab a few cookies around 7:15 PM & the girls really enjoyed them. They even have free orange juice & apple juice! Unfortunately, the girls were kind of disappointed that they didn't have any milk. They have complimentary breakfast from 6-9 AM, but the kids were still sleeping so I came by to see what was offered because my niece loves pancake & my daughter loves bacon. Sadly, neither were offered so I just got a bowl of cereal, milk, a banana, an apple and two muffins for the kids to snack on during our drive back to LA. The check out process was quick and easy as well. If it weren't located out of the way to San Diego, I'd definitely consider coming back to stay here in the future.

First off, I had no idea there were 2 hotels at Viejas and honestly love the Willows Hotel & Spa, plus it's a 21+. When you walk in, it feels like a mini Vegas hotel. You go upstairs to the front desk and service was really great, from the check in process to the luggage assistance. But it's really when you get up to the room that is impressive; probably one of the nicer rooms that I've stayed in which a nice open area with a mini bar, desk and living room. The bedroom is in a separate room and much to my surprise, there was a special birthday setup on the bed for me (loved it!). And can't forget the extra large shower with rainfall faucet and all the amenities you would need. On to the spa. Amazing. While it's on the smaller side I had a great experience, from the attentive staff that made me feel welcomed to the massage and near-private hot tub/sauna/steam room and lovely pool area. It's adjacent to the regular hotel pool that you also have access to as well. If you get a service you can use the amenities all day with in and out privileges, such a nice relaxing day if you ask me. So while I'm limiting my review to the hotel and spa, the Viejas property has so much to do. The casino is a short walk from the hotel along with a variety of restaurants. The outlet mall is literally across the street and has a bingo hall and bowling and also had a seasonal skating rink. The golf course is also a drive down the road. In conclusion, I had a 5 star experience. I was sad to check out and I will be back for another stay!

The owners did an incredible job honoring the desert beauty by restoring this gorgeous Moroccan inspired hotel that seems to nestle perfectly in the heart of town. You truly enter a little vortex, where everything you could need is on-site and within walking distance. The outside world seems to fade as you walk through the entrance doors. We celebrated a birthday as a couple where we indulged in a one night stay, in the King suite, enjoying the amenities exclusive to hotel guests. We dined at the restaurant, ordered poolside foods & drinks, sat by the bar, soaked in all the bathing areas, and enjoyed the little nooks to lounge. We stayed on a Sunday night and felt we had spaciousness from other guests and privacy to fully relax. Absolutely recommend visiting for an overnight stay as the exclusivity of hotel specific areas is a must to experience. The rooms are also gorgeous and minimalist by nature. The comfort of the bed and clean linens after a day of soaking topped it all! Truly had one of the best nights of sleep and wanted to do it all over again when we rose. As mineral spring connoisseurs, we were impressed by the cleanliness and purity of the waters. Truly healing on every level!! Maintenance staff actively were testing temperature, ensuring the waters remained comfortable and well-kept. Staff overall were helpful and kind. The restaurant menu was diverse and fitting for the setting--hitting the spot with flares of Mexican cuisine. The touches of healthfulness on the menu were appreciated. The pozole soup was warming and a highlight for visiting during the Winer season. Lastly, I can't forget to nod the eclectic and cozy bar, where we enjoyed live music and appetizers before our main sitting. The decor, bites and hospitality took us to another time and place. We intend to visit this hidden gem seasonally as it absolutely nourished and transformed our spirit! & Shoutout to Julie who made our stay unforgettable.

Doors did not lock and not all furniture was unpacked so we had to put it together ourselves. While the view and the birds were spectacular, our hosts were not. We would leave work and things would be moved around when we came back, which was invasive and perplexing since there was no maid service in the four weeks we stayed. On several occasions after working the grave shift in the early morning there would be knocks on our doors and occasionally fire alarms would be set off. One day after days of our doors never locking (both the hallway and sliding glass doors) they decided to do maintenance to finally have the doors properly lock, and lock them when they were done. Well because none of the doors to our rooms locked many of us stopped carrying the keys, and upon arriving to locked doors it was hard to get in contact to be let into our rooms. As much as we appreciated being lodged in this clean facility, we could have done away with the hostility and confiscation of personal property from our rooms.

That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.

It's against the ADA requirements- Q. Can hotels assign designated rooms for guests with service animals? A. No. A guest with a disability who uses a service animal must be provided the same opportunity to reserve any available room as other guests without disabilities. They may not be restricted to "pet-friendly" rooms. As for her flimsy excuse about the wildlife even though I assured her we follow the service dog rules of bathing her before trips and keeping her on a close leash. She never has barked EVER. We have never heard her voice! She was trained to not chase or even look at other animals she turns away. She is a well trained service dog from two well know legitimate organizations and is licensed. Even though by law we don't have to show her I offered to show Nan the CA service dog license and her training paperwork and card my husband carries showing who trained her and that she is allowed in ambulances and hospitals too. I explained all the tasks that she does to help my husband with his hearing loss and explained why we wouldn't allow her to ever be close to wildlife for her safety too. All in all Nan went on and on about how she had to close off the cabins before and after the dates because of covid and aerosols and the cost of insurance, the cost of doing business so it appears as if she used the excuse of wildlife and bad past experiences with people lying about pets being service animals to make us pay more by booking the larger pet friendly cabin. I kept saying my husband's service dog is not a pet and she wouldn't listen. 27 minutes on the phone I listened to her discriminate against my husband before asking one more time if since she was insisting we stay in the large pet cabin with the 3 beds we don't need could she at least just charge us the cost of the strawberry cabin since we aren't supposed to be penalized with increased charges because of my husband's disability and she said No. So I finally said well I'm going to report you and hung up. I did double check just in case there was a change in the last few weeks but there wasn't. I called the CA state park in Julian and spoke with the ranger which is the same wildlife, same forest as Nans property and they assured me that service dogs are still allowed in cabins there AND even on trails. He assured me that my husband's service dog would not interfere with the deer under her cabin at all!!! That the people staying in the cabins and even her 6 cats roaming the property could interfere more. Her excuse was a flimsy way to try to extort more money out of us. Maybe someone who was trying to pass a pet off as a service dog would have been fine with this since she does have no pets on her listings BUT a legitimate well trained service dog is NOT a pet and we know the law and we are proud of the amazing job the dog does that is potentially life saving. It's sad we are missing out what appears to be a cute cabin but I'm glad we aren't monetarily supporting disabled discrimination.
