This is my favourite Thai restaurant anywhere -- and I eat Thai a lot. I don't live in the area, but I come here whenever I am going down 95... it's THAT good. The food is delicious -- perfect balance of flavor and restraint, consistently fresh veggies and well-cooked meat. Presentation is impeccable. Atmosphere is also impeccable: it's very peaceful and pleasant even when the restaurant is full. Service is fast, friendly, and professional. Even though I rarely get the chance to visit, the staff remember me and say hi. The prices are REALLY reasonable... especially for lunch. And they have a bar! The food is good when you try it for the first time, getting it made the same way a second or third time is impossible, the language barrier is also a problem. I ordered take out with a bill of $21, gave the driver $40 & she had to go back to the car to get my change & gave me $5 back when I asked for the rest she said "that was for tip" I eventually got $15 back and didn't give her the $10 tip I would normally give. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the food I've gotten from them lately which in turn makes me never want to get food from them again. The poor excuse for a delivery person was just the icing on the cake to seal the deal for me never giving them another dime of mine. This is my favorite spot in Guilford, I actually prefer it more than Som Siam, the chef is way better than that one. Try the fish cake for the appetizer, you won't be disappointed. Their curry dish comes with Thai salad or soup, the flavor is just right. You could also try some Thai beer or Thai ice tea, which are very good as well. The waiters are very friendly as well. Very mixed experience at this Thai restaurant. First time there, I ate in the dining room . I had the jungle curry which was excellent. I was excited at finding a place in CT that does good Thai. On my second visit I had a pad thai and tom gu kai coconut soup for takeout. Wow, what a difference! The pad thai was probably the worst that I've ever had! Oily, flavorless, no vegetables or herbs. Just noodles and meat. I would be disappointed at getting that at a lunch kart. The soup wasn't as bad but it was totally mediocre. I don't know what happened, it seems like the cook just didn't care at all. All the love that I tasted in the curry was totally absent in the pad thai. I don't think I'll ever go back. The curry was great, but the pad thai was soooo bad that I'm completely over this place. What a shame! It had such potential. Sad. read more

Great food and service. We are very very picky when it comes to Thai food and are usually let down by most Thai restaurants. Ayuthai waa fantastic. Fresh, tasty and authentic. We had an excellent dinner at Ayuthai on a Saturday night in early March! The Summer rolls were fresh and light; the sauce was just perfect. For the entree, we ordered the Duck Chu Chee...which my husband LOVED and would definitely come back for again. I ordered the Cashew Shrimp and again, no disappointment there! The food was great! The ambience was nice and our server was very friendly and helpful. We had the beef special, garlic shrimp, curry puffs, and Thai tea. My favorites were the beef special and Thai tea. It is by far among the best Thai tea that I have had in the country. The garlic shrimp was okay. It had a decent supply of shrimp and mixture of veggies but it needed more garlic sauce. The curry puffs tasted like they were fried from a frozen package. I was not impressed especially since we chose the restaurant based on the fact that they offered curry puffs. This place is OK. The food is pretty good, and the prices are fair. They lost me as a customer because they offer brown rice, and charge extra for it, but the last time I was there, they gave me white rice with some food coloring on it, to try and make it look darker. It wasn't really brown rice. I didn't argue, and I just paid my check, but I have not gone back. A shame, really. read more

I have been to Ayuthai twice now, and both times it was fantastic in every way. The staff is very friendly and attentive. To be honest I'm not sure if I can think of a place where I've had better service. Both times I got the red curry with chicken and both times it was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, savory, and with a heat that builds rather than slapping you in the face, I could just eat it by itself like a soup. The chicken, bamboo, etc that comes with it are tender and cooked nicely. I also tried the chicken satay appetizer, which was juicy and came with two very different and complimentary sauces. Everything I've had here blended flavored and textures in a subtle and satisfying way, and the prices are quite reasonable. Highly recommended, and I know I'll be back many times. read more

Wonderful food, atmosphere and service. We ordered tom yum soup and larb salad for appetizers. The soup was AMAZING and the staff spread the apps out so that we didn't feel rushed. I had the crispy fish and my mom had soft shell crab; both were delicious. The Sunday jazz was a nice touch. the restaurant was relaxing and the staff was extremely attentive. We were shocked by the quality of the food and the price was more than reasonable. I was so impressed I went back a week later for lunch. It was even cheaper and just as delicious. Located right on Route 1 just north of downtown Guilford, Ayuthai is an authenic and delicious thai food dining destination. The owner is very friendly and the food is prepared by his family. The portions are generous and very reasonably priced. They have a lovely intimate dining room and a full bar. They also deliver!! This place is a hidden gem on Route 1 Guilford. The food is fresh and tasty. The staff is genuine and friendly. And the best surprise is that they have top quality live Jazz on Sunday Evenings. My wife and I went there for the Jazz dinner. They had a jazz quartet playing between 6-8pm. The jazz band is superb. The sax player specifically was great. The service was also good and polite. The food did come out fast for the dinner rush. However, I would only rate the food as average. The fresh roll all got stuck together and wrapped too thin that it fell apart when picked it up. The papaya salad was good but wasn't made using the traditional Thai style mortar and pestle, but we did appreciated the tune-down a notch on the heat level. The pad-see-you (noodle stir fry) was kind of watery for some reason and the veggies were way way over cooked. The flavors were all there - but for some reason the execution was less than desired... we had coconut pudding for dessert - and that did brought my memory back to Bangkok, and it was delicious. In any case - we went for the jazz first, booze second, and the food was last. The jazz was goooood, and that was all that mattered. read more

Passing through Connecticut, and the area where i stayed, searched for my fave thai food and found this semi fancy restaurant. The staff are friendly, and the place is clean. I gave it 1 star, because... a) the price is on the expensive side... b) it was too dark inside to the point that if you eat their at night, you will not be able to see if you have roaches in your food... c) when i got my order, and got to my hotel, found out that 2 out of 3 of my orders were wrong... and i paid for a more expensive food... how can a fancy resto make 2/3 mistake? Question is; is this the first time? And when i called them they even know that they made the mistake!!! d) of course the taste is not that great... if you are looking for a good Thai treat for your money... you need to go to Thai Spice in Orange, CT... that is the BEST place to be!!! So dont be fooled with the sweet talking and nice ambiance... go for the taste and satisfaction and guaranteed tou will get disappointed with IYUTHAI. read more

Very, very busy the day after Thanksgiving -- the place was packed and clearly understaffed. The waitresses were running wild working as hard as they could, but we still waited over an hour to receive our appetizers, long after many tables had cleared. Finally our food came, and at the very end of the meal, I found a hair in my food. An hour and a half of waiting, and after that, a hair at the very end?? Unbelievable. We let the manager know and his reaction wasn't, "I'll take that off at once," but rather, "oh, but you ate the whole thing?" Yes, I did, because it was on the bottom!! It sounded like he thought I was trying to get a free meal! Very poor reaction. Eventually he took it off, as well as a round of drinks, but only because we specifically asked given the outrageous wait. Any other restaurant in the area would have offered a free round without hesitation. We have visited Ayuthai in the past and were looking forward to a similar good experience, but now we won't be back! Don't visit on a busy night, the management just can't handle it. read more

The food at Ayuthai is absolutely amazing!!! Fresh ingredients and always on point; the place is spotlessly clean as well which is always a plus!! The owner Sai is so nice and accommodating. We come in at least once a week and are always welcomed by happy faces. Our meals and drinks are always brought promptly and the manager even remembers what our go to entrees our. Mine is the ginger vegetables which they use fresh ginger and delicious vegetables in a brown sauce that is to die for! My husband gets the duck chu chee and that meal is also excellent every time. We have been to many restaurants in CT and NY plus surrounding areas, and this place is at the top! The food, service and overall atmosphere is great. Also for dessert try the fried bananas with coconut ice cream! Delicious and light; perfect to finish off the meal for two!! Will continue coming back at least twice a month as long as they are opened, which hopefully will be FOREVER! read more
